The plates were very hot but Strangely food luke warm. Had Sunday roast. Chicken was stuffed with sausage meat . Disappointing ratio was more stuffing than Chicken . Was tasty. Dessert was Scillian Lemon Cheesecake, was more like a sponge cake. Service was provided by lovely young ladies who were attentive but unobtrusive.

Had a lovely meal, service was fantastic, and went the extra mile for off menu meals. Really enjoyed our meals and our Son was very happy 😊

I got asked for ID for been 33 year old my birthday on this Sunday be 34 year old food was disgusting get a new chef, when went to order the food at the bar staff said what table number are you on I said no table number on the table, bar staff have attitude problem not good customer service, the nachos no cheese hardly wasn’t great chocolate brownie was dry and horrible would I come back again NO! I emailed the owner he emailed me back saying to ring him to discuss the issue's, I posted on highlands Facebook page and on Instagram deleted my comments under nachos picture he deleted the comment and blocked me, clearly customer isn’t always right anymore and they need to learn some manners and learn Customer service the owner is disgusting

Friendly as usual. Very busy due to the great weather. Bouncy castle for my granddaughter.

Good that there's a decent outdoor seating area. Good there's plenty of parking. Bad that they play music all the time. We sat outside so we could talk, but there were speakers out there too unfortunately. Nice food but far too small a meal for £18.50, another couple of sautéed potatoes would have cost them very little extra.

Awful visited on Wednesday 17th July worst experience ever would never come back again, I ordered a drink got ID I said it’s fine I have ID and bar staff was rude and aggressive and horrible, I ordered Gallic bread, nachos, chocolate cake, Nachos was awful no cheese when went to order bar staff said what table number you on I explained no tables number on garden tables they all had bad rude attitudeI asked for pain they was so rubbish, I emailed the pub owner replied and said ring me to discuss the issue, I rang him today he was rude and abusive I asked or refund for rubbish food and poor service he said no way, he wouldn’t listen to point kept saying it’s about ID no it is not it’s about poor food and awful customer service, avoid this place rubbish owner and was so rude to me, this was awful experience and it’s expensive and for rubbish food

Amazing time at the highlands, we were made very welcome. It's a no nonsense kind of place but really friendly. The charm of the people there in the three weeks of work we spent there was hilarious. Top top top

Lovely place if you want to sit and wait an hour, have to then ask someone to actually come and take our order. Then for an hour wait for starters then when the mains come to watch them take two of the plates from a different table and try to give them to us after watching them physically touch the food and them saying sorry we got the tables mixed up!! When I said but they touched the food the waitress then said it’s ok they didn’t eat anything so here you are and tried passing me the plate!! I explained that’s unacceptable and wanted a fresh dinner for her to walk away and a minute later come back with it. I left the meal and was still expected to pay full price for not even eating it !! Definitely not returning and a waste of £190 for a family meal when only 4 people actually ate

Simply a lovely place to eat or drink plus being dog friendly is a bonus

We've been here many times in the past and always rated it highly. This was the first time for a few years and sadly it was nowhere near what it used to be. The food was bland, cajun chicken for example with no discernable flavouring or steak that was tough and extremely chewy, and the service was slow and poor with young, inexperienced staff who seemed to lack direction.

It's extremely rare for me to give 5 stars to a pub so I can assure you this place is worth a visit! I've got a rapeseed allergy and most pubs will swerve me when they hear that but the staff here couldn't do enough for me! The food was amazing and the staff couldn't be more friendly. Even recommending places to go after we ate. Special thanks go to Ruby and chef Gayton and Nat for being amazing! Thank you we will definitely be back!

We booked here for a Sunday roast a couple of weeks ago with our son,daughter in law and Grandaughter. Not having been for quite a while , we didn't know what to expect. It was very pleasant. Two of us had the beef , which was beautiful, and one had the pork. He would have liked it slightly less cooked, but as I told him, you can't really do that with pork. Another had the trio of meat and our Grandaughter had a burger. She started with garlic bread, scoffed that . Then she polished off her burger, chips and beans. She then asked for the waffle and whatever it came with. Compliments to you. She ate the lot. Good going for a 10 year old. We all thoroughly enjoyed our roasts. Service was good. Very friendly staff. We will come back. Thsnkyou

Co op is a lovely store and is better than tesco. Ridgewood has waited 10 years to have their own store in the community with the pub on site as well . Well done, co op 👏 👍 👌 😀 🙌

Food was great, pub is nice, lively. Service was rubbish, all young waiters and no organisation. Waited an hour for our meal. Then didnt get offered desert, just given the bill. Not good enough!!

Visited for lunch on the way to Battle. The service was excellent, the waiting staff couldn’t do enough for you. I had the steak pie which was homemade and gorgeous. One of the best pies I’ve eaten. My husband had the steak burger and he was equally pleased. To top it off we shared a sticky toffee pudding just because the main course was so good and we were not disappointed. It was scrumptious. Highly recommend this pub and will be back if in the area.

5 of us arrived for Sunday lunch. The staff were very welcoming and friendly, we were severed by numerous members of staff and everyone one of them had a smile on their face. The service was excellent and the food was delicious and the price was very reasonable. Would definitely recommend.

We went for an Easter lunch with my husband, toddler and in laws. The restaurant has a lovely, welcoming atmosphere, the staff are very friendly and helpful. Service was a little slow, considering the place wasn't that busy, but we didn't mind it much. Our son loved the pictures of the terriers and especially the Highland cow, so we had lots to look at while we waited. The food was delicious and plenty on the plate for the price. There is a very good, simple selection for children, which is great for our picky toddler. It was the first time we went, but definitely not the last. I'm glad we discovered this place.

Inattentive staff..our food order was not written down and we were asked twice if we had ordered the sea bass or salmon...I hugely regret not speaking to the manager at the time, but my food was awful. Overcooked ,tiny salmon portion served with a barely visible drizzle of hollondaise sauce and a couple of soggy sliced potatoes was further ruined by triple lumps of broccoli not the promised tenderstem broccoli....and priced at £18.95 was the final insult...a rip off..The only saving grace was the excellent Harveys bitter. No plans to eat at the Highlands in the near future....

London prices! F&C needs big improvement (tasteless). Waitresses probably on basic pay (no experience). This place can improve big time and earn double $$$$ easy.. I know what im saying (6 years mng London Central)

I haven't eaten here for a while and it was absolutely lovely as usual. The food is divine and the waitresses are all friendly which makes it so enjoyable. If I had to moan, a couple came in with 2 dogs and the dog sat on the sofa where a couple had been sitting previously. I feel dogs are best placed on the floor as I don't want to sit on a dog hairy seat.

I’ve driven past this pub / restaurant a few times over the last couple of months and it looked nice from the outside. decided to bite the bullet and come in here one evening with my mrs. Booked a table via the website and then drove here - it has an ample size car park for anyone driving here. We turned up and shown directly to our table (next to a bunch of loud rowdy men). As the pub was quite busy we decided against asking to move tables. Our waitress took our drink and main orders but when our food came (after what felt like an eternity) from a different waitress - our original waitress forgot to put through a side order! Although it didn’t take long for it to arrive - but would have been nicer for it to have come out altogether. The food was lovely and looked delicious. I had the bacon and cheeseburger and my mrs had steak - to which I was gutted I didn’t order the same as that looked unreal! Pudding and I was spoilt for choice! Two of my favourites were on the menu - sticky toffee and waffle & ice cream. I went for the waffle and my mrs went for the crumble of the day. Prices were reasonable considering how lovely the food was. I picked 3/5 because although the food was delicious the pub itself was quite noisy and the fact that my side dish didn’t come out with my main - that was the only downsides. I would perhaps come back here again - maybe mid or early in the week next time when I’d hope it’s not so noisy!

Had a brilliant evening here they managed to fit us in at late notice and nothing was to much trouble. The service was quick and efficient we were a party of 11 and all of us enjoyed it.

Lovely family meal for 10 people including 4 young children to celebrate my birthday. Lovely food great selection and really friendly attentive service. I love the atmosphere here and the fact you are not all crammed together.

Would certainly go again. Menu is quite varied and prices are generally on a par with what to expect in the locality. The restaurant is spacious and light with a high ceiling so doesn't feel too busy. Decent sized portions, we had turkey and leek pie with mash, cabbage, carrot and broccoli. Only niggle is that the carrot and broccoli were a little under done. Otherwise, we were served by a pleasant young man.

Went there for a Christmas Dinner with the company, and the food was plentiful and very good.

Matt was a great host for the cheese and wine tasting on 13 December. An excellent selection of local cheeses paired with a wide selection of wines. Really enjoyed the cranberry Aperol cocktail. Would definitely recommend attending the next event if you get the chance. Thanks Matt for a wonderful evening.

The Highlands is one of our favourite places to eat. The prices are reasonable and the food is good. It always feels welcoming.

Great place for a Sunday roast, particularly the nut roast for vegans and vegetarians! Even a vegan Yorkshire pudding! The roast veggies are perfectly cooked and seasoned and the meat eaters weren't disappointed either. Mum's fish and chips were great too, couldn't recommend it highly enough.

We showed up without reservations and got a table for an hour and a half (it was reserved for 2pm)which was fine. Staff were nice. Roast was alright, potatoes weren’t the best. They were very good at accommodating dairy free and also did chicken when it wasn’t on the menu. I don’t agree with £6.50 for two little slices of pizza and some chips for a kids meal, could do better with a little side salad (no offence but most places do kids 3 course for like £8, I know places are different, just feel you should look at this again) but over all it was alright. Would still go back id just choose differently.

Had an absolutely delicious Sunday roast here today, we went for the full monty and all the meats were perfectly cooked and tender, with fresh Yorkshire's and delicious veggies and sides. The starters were amazing too, we were both stuffed! Would highly recommend.

Cracking flat white with oat milk served by smiling staff certainly brightens your day. Especially a nice break from “working” from home.

Always a safe bet in Uckfield. The bar area is massive, as is the restaurant. There's a huge garden area as well, and they renovated the car park recently, which was badly needed! Really good food and drinks selection, great service and a top atmosphere!

Always a warm welcome from Chloe and her team. Our go to pub / restaurant. Good home cooked food, nothing comes with the ping if a microwave! Food cooked to order and how you want it, sometimes iff menu if they can. A few seats in the pub area, or the sports bar for a more authentic pub experience.

Excellent food, had the grilled salmon and a fantastic banana sponge with vanilla ice cream, accompanied by a lovely pint of Harvey’s bitter. Quick and friendly service as always.

We had roast beef meals. It was absolutely delicious. The beef was pink and vegetables done just right. Perfect "compliments to the chef". I would most definitely visit again

Great prompt service from Tess; really well presented and prepared food and a welcoming approach to non-alcoholic cocktails. Highly recommended. Very clean and tidy, with atmospheric lighting. Slightly spartan feel, not helped by the low customer numbers at 12:45 on a Thursday - maybe a little colour or table furniture would raise the warmth.

We dropped into the pub tonight for a quick drink, the sever, who saw me from the restaurant side, did not come to service my drink requirement until I beckoned her, at which point she was not respectful, or helpful. Last time you will see me, such a shame, as you are local to me, so now I will use the Railway, a receptive pub.

What a fantastic meal and great service! I ate here with a group of friends on 24th April. We each chose something different from the menu and all of us commented on how tasty our meals were and that we hadn't expected it to be so good. We ordered 10 minutes before the kitchen closed and despite this the chef delivered 10/10 meals. I am about to book again for this weekend for a family lunch.

1and a half hour wait for a bit of salmon.!!!!!!!! I went to the Highlands Monday 17th April 2023. There was 3 of us . We treated our dear friend for her birthday to a meal here ,before going on to a evening out to carry on celebrating her birthday . This was my first visit, I was very impressed with the decor. We where seated quickly . There was only one other table taken at the time we arrived . A sweet young girl came to take our order. We all ordered the same . The pan fried salmon. We arrived at 5.30pm ,our order was taken around 5.40pm. We chatted as ladies do, our friend opened her gifts etc . Time went by then we realised a lot of time had gone by . Then noticed the man that came in after us had finished his meal and onto his pudding . Ours still has not arrived. A very apologetic guy came to out table and said sorry the ticket machine wasn't working !!! The old man had got his food so that was a lame excuse. He promised our food was on its way 7 minutes max . We agreed to wait ,but explained we had to be somewhere . Over 15 minutes later still no food . We had no choice but to go . We where starving !!! Had to watch people that arrived an hour after us get and eat their food . We didn't realise they went and fished in Scotland for the salmon . Our evening was ruined and we where very upset as we ended up with a bag of chips at the local chippy . We waited over 1and a half hours for our food . Will not go again . Shame as first impression was wow . Was going to book my family in for my birthday on the 28th . Sadly not now . Disgraceful service. I'm no cook but even I know it doesn't take 1.5 hours to cook a bit of salmon . We left starving at 7.10 pm . Never again .

Went for a busy mother's day dinner. Pretty much fully booked, but still produced great food that was enjoyed by everyone. Drinks service a little slow and dessert a little pricey for what it was, but still, a lovely place to eat.

Came here for a meal with family, lovely service. You could tell it’s fresh food and tasted really good!
