Staff were hostile and rude which immediately left a bad taste in my mouth. However, when we did sit down the decor and atmosphere was perfect for a rainy day. I didn't have any food as you are not able to have the toast by itself - a disappointment and missed oppurtunity! It seemed very overpriced though from looking at the menu and our fellow guests' food. Would go back begrudgingly for the nice ambience!

This place is very overrated and pretentious. I had some mushrooms on toast with mackerel pate, which was actually just a lump of mackerel. My friend had what he described as the worst veggie burger ever. There is a bread station where you can top your meal. I asked one of the staff what the different breads were and she looked at me like a stroppy teenager being asked to clean their room. She was not helpful to say the least. It was overpriced and I left feeling a little nauseous. But if bad food and attitude are your idea of a lovely Sunday afternoon, then this is the place for you.

We have often gone here for brekkie and love it. Not the cheapest but the food's good and nice to have the toasters on the table to do your own. Lots of bread to have with spreads and all quite retro - fresh baked bread on site etc. However, today's visit was dampened slightly with the staff.... I have no problem with foreign waiters but ideally they should understand what you're asking for or explain that they don't.....so felt a little uneasy when a lot of whispering and pointing went on. When we'd paid our bill we were asked to leave the table due to the queue, but could have been done in a nicer way...especially when you've just spent nearly £70 for breakfast!!!! But no doubt will still visit again...

Smallish restaurant specializing in breakfast/brunch at higher than average prices. Pleasant interior with wooden tables and some quirks such as toasters on the table and "help yourself to some speciality breads" which was a novel idea. I opted for the cowboys breakfast which was a huge portion of homemade baked beans with an egg on sourdough bread plus some bacon - looked a bit of a mess but tasted quite good. What I didn't like about this place was sharing the table with strangers but if you are hungry and don't mind sharing then this might be the place for you. Service was ok but not particularly friendly. It's obviously very popular because there was a queue outside by the time we left so suggest you get there early or be prepared to wait. Personally I would walk on by if there was a queue.

Average food that is cheap. That's the only positive of this eatery that has poor hygiene standards, rude staff and unprofessional service. The restaurant breaches health and safety standards by not cleaning their utensils, having poorly wired toasters that spark and generally hippie unpleasant staff that think regular food safety standards don't apply to them. Unimpressed sadly as we had high hopes.

Wow I'm not sure where to start! Two of us popped in not long after opening to be greeted by what can only be described as a hug of a decor. Various shades and textures of brown drain away the London stresses long before you reach your table, complimented by a retro soundtrack at a sensible level. Our waitress was lovely and having worked in the Artisan coffee industry myself I was genuinely excited by the quality of my espresso while I explored the delights on the menu. I struggle to understand the complaints about price here. The most expensive item on the menu was the Aussie Breakie at £13.95 which was a generous full English with the addition of a minute steak. This seems reasonable already then you realise +DIY on the menu allows you to help yourself to as much Artisan bread and homemade preserves as you like and a personal toaster (shared with the adjoining table) adding a lovely interactive element to the proceedings. The two of us sat there soaking it all in, both in a state you could only describe as two pigs in muck. Following our breakfasts up with some beautiful Walnut bread and some homemade Amaretto marmalade was wonderful and if we had the capacity we'd surely have stayed for more. On leaving the world seemed a little bit harsher and more angry thus was the comforting and enveloping loveliness we had just departed. Only hours later we decided we had to return in the evening to try their homemade sourdough pizza later in the evening... Oh the pizza... where else can you get 4 fantastic pizzas and 2 bottles of red for £60???Will definitely be back to try more of the menu on many more occasions to come. Thank you for starting and ending my day in a fantastic way!

To be honest I'm still a bit unsure about this place...It is either great, or rubbish depending, not on what you order, but what you're after in a breakfast place.Pros*Nice friendly atmosphere*Friendly staff*Fantastic artisan breads*Unique 'concept'Cons*Cash only on weekends*You have to cook your own toast...*You're sitting next to strangers...*Unique 'concept'...I've been here a few times, and I gave up ordering from the menu and just get the DIY breakfast, which is, you cut your own slice of breads, pick up your choice of spreads yourself, go back to your table sitting next to a stranger, put the bread in the toaster on your table (provided the stranger hasn't got their toast in first) then take the toast out of the toaster and spread your choice of condiment over said toast...Such a nice concept! Isn't it... Isn't it...? I'm still not sure. You can have the DIY as well as choosing from the menu, but it seems like an expensive choice and a waste to not just be eating the bread which is amazing.Off the menu is ok, decent, but nothing special. The cash only is a pain in the proverbial, the fact you're sharing a table with a strange couple is unnerving if they're not talking (are they listening in to what I'm saying...?) or awkward if you're not talking and they are (because -I'm- listening to what they're saying!)The idea is strange one, I'm paying for the bread and having to do all the leg work myself, but if you have friends over from elsewhere in the UK/Europe/the world it's certainly "fun". I'm just not sure if it's my kind of fun...Oh, but I will be going back... The next time I find someone who hasn't been here yet, just to show them what a unique, fun, sharing, frustrating concept this is

Atmosphere- cosy and nice if you're seated next to nice people. Be careful not to trip on the toaster wire depending where you're sat. Service- the staff were nice, however the person in charge seemed a bit stressed. We'd realised you had to ask if scrambled egg is wanted extra done just after ordering-this seemed to be a big ask. It also seems to be a big issue that its cash only at a weekend- for the person in charge- perhaps it would be easier to sort this out? (We had cash having read about this on reviews)My breakfast- I had the full English which (apart from the watery tomato juice baked beans) was amazing! My dear other halves breakfast- a Cowboy Breakfast was a sad sloppy disappointment. The watery tomato baked bean juice had taken over the plate whilst the fried egg 'in' a slice of bread created an image of a chunky slice of bread, not a very thinly sliced slice of bread! It's for a cowboy?!?! The DIY Bread- was amazing. The soda bread was delicious and more was cooked fresh on site. It's nice to select preserves and bread (I can't stand cold toast!). Therefore mixed feelings. We agree with previous reviews- get there early.

Unlimited DIY toast is such a fun idea, and brunch was very enjoyable, with a variety of breads and spreads to choose from. We also enjoyed our bacon and eggs, which were nicely done. The only negative would be the service. Staff were a little brusque at times, which isn't that nice. Also, part way through our meal the staff wanted to add two more people to the end of our table (we had some spare chairs), which we were fine about, but they were a bit rude in how they went about it. They just said 'I need this table', rather than asking us politely to make more space (which we would have been totally fine about, it was just the manner in which it all happened). That aside, it was a quirky and fun experience, and I would return and give the service another shot. The only reason it isn't 5 stars.

Was very excited about going here as having a personal toaster on the table and unlimited toast seemed like a great idea! What we didn't realise was that you can't actually just have toast. You have to purchase some sort of breakfast as well whether it be eggs, salmon and toast or a full English... What we really wanted was just to gorge ourselves on toast so we're a bit disappointed that we had to fork out over £15 plus drinks just for the privilege of having toast. There really should be an option of just paying something like £10 for just the toast option which is what we wanted, not the full breakfast that comes with it. That being said the toast was fantastic. Loads of varieties to choose from as well as loads of choices of preserves as well. A friend suggested we have brunch here, and after having a gander online and reading that you can TOAST YOUR OWN BREAD AT THE TABLE(!!!!) I happily obliged. The concept of doing something as mundane and unremarkable of putting a piece of bread in somewhere other than your home shouldn’t be so exciting. But it really was.Upon arrival on a Saturday mid-morning, I was greeted with a line of people queuing out of the door – always a good sign that the food’s good. 10 minutes later, we were shown to our table. The place was pretty much rammed with as many tables and chairs as possible, meaning that we were on a 4 person table with another couple, and a toaster in between us to share. This kind of thing doesn’t bother me too much, but I know some people (namely my sister) hate close-together seating. The brunch menu was pretty huge with an extensive choice of breakfast fare, all with unlimited bread to toast. I saw they had Full Aussie Breakfast (Full English plus a steak) on the menu, and just couldn't resist! The Full English part was fairly average, but it was the steak that took it to another level – thin, tender, juicy and cooked rare like I asked for it. After finishing my plate I was pretty stuffed, but the whole point of this eatery is the unlimited fresh bread on offer that you an toast at the table. How it works is there’s a side with loads of different types of freshly baked bread (normal white, brown, soda, sourdough, walnut, etc.) which you can slice as thick as you like, and underneath are shelves filled with tons of Bonne Maman jams, Nutella, Marmite, Peanut Butter, honey…you get the picture. You then bring your slices to the table and put it in the huge posh lever toaster. Cost-wise it’s not that cheap for breakfast. I paid about £20 for my Full Aussie and green tea which isn’t ridiculous considering it came with a steak, but you can certainly find cheaper breakfasts further into Central. So all in all, Breads Etcetera is a simple yet really effective idea. The food was very tasty although nothing particularly special, but it’s the overall experience of choosing the bread, topping, and toasting it at your leisure which makes the place somewhere I will make sure I go back to in the future.

Breads etc. is an amazing cafe and won't let you down for brunch. You can opt for unlimited DIY bread to toast at the table with unlimited spreads alone or with another brunch option e.g. soft eggs, full english etc. The soft option or baked eggs are my favourites along with multiple slices of bread from the home made selection (rye, sour dough, olive bread, walnut bread). It does get a little pricey for brunch when you add drinks but it is definitely worthwhile. No reservations are taken so expect to queue for about 15 mins depending on how busy it is.

To start with you cannot book a table at Breads Etcetera so we tried our luck to get a table, however they were full. The waitress took our mobile number and we sat in another pub until she rang us letting us know a table was free, which was great. The only downside really was next...we had a waitress see to us that could speak about as much English as a dog. Taking our order was an ordeal and she got it wrong. However (presumably the head waitress) sorted out all the problems, was very apologetic and gave us some free drinks, of which the home made lemonade they do is very tasty! When the pizza's arrived they were excellent! They didn't take long to arrive either which was great. For £5 I would highly recommend getting one of the sourdough pizzas! The group consisted of 6 of us, we shared a starter, we all had a drink and a pizza each and the bill was £51! Cannot complain! I will definitely be going back next time I'm in London!

Went for breakfast on a Sunday morning and almost immediately regretted it and wished we had gone next door to the meze place.Firstly we had to knock on the door to see if they were open. The scruffy waitress eventually deigned to check and see ifnthey could squeeze us in. On this day she was being merciful and quite literally squeezed us in, at the end of the row of tiny tables where my chair was cunningly placed to obstruct the path from the kitchen. Oh the fun we had with that. The 'highlights' of the experience were:- Be seated family style on a table big enough for two but which magically seats four- Order an onscenely overpriced breakfast from a trendy, scruffy and disinterested student. Nothing less than £11. Clearly they have not seen the Wetherspoons menu.- Drink lukewarm, bitter coffee.- Manouveur through the cramped and dark environs to access the bread area where you get to slice your own for toasting at your table in the oversized retro toaster. Yes, the same table that has four people squeezed on it already. Im sure this is a novelty that people "just adore" but in reality, its a pain in the behind.- Choose from a selection of shop bought jams, peanut butter, etc and take a dollop of the cheapest Tesco Value butter.-Take delivery of your breakfast. No room on the table of course. To be fair, the food was ok but not even close to being worth the price.-Peer towards the kitchen area to see a filthy and decrepit area, remembering that you never noticed a food hygiene rating sticker in the window. Panic about gastroenteritis.- Pour water from a chipped enamel jug into your glass,by which I mean an empty jam jar. Yes, this place is sooooo alternative, you drink from jam jars, how quaint!!!- Puzzle at why the bill is brought to you in an empty drinking glass. Yep, drink from a jar, pay in a real glass. Its so whacky and delightful!!!!- Further puzzle at the 12.5% service charge. I cut my own bread, and toasted it, drank from recycling and paid triple the fair value of the meal which was served by surly and scruffy staff, so what 'Service' was this? All in all, this place is the living embodiment of the word pretentious. Avoid at all costs, especially with a much nicer place next door.

The cappuccino was quite bad and it should have been called a latte. The food was ok. Nothing to be enthusiastic about, nice salmon but nothing special. The nicest thing is the selection of bread that you can choose by yourself, toast and use the big variety of jams that they provide. Formula already seen but always working. Nice atmosphere and nice staff. Don't think it deserve mention as one of best places in Clapham and worth waiting a queue to have that food and coffee.

Went in on a Sunday morning as I noticed there was no queue when the place is usually very busy. At first asked for a table of 3 with a friend on their way to join me. For a moment I thought I had mistakenly offended the staff member's mother as he looked at me with a mixture of shock and disgust however I later realised this was just the general attitude of most of the staff. Sat down and wasn't explained the setup of the restaurant (help yourself to toast once you have ordered a breakfast) perhaps it was expected that their reputation should have preceded them. Ordered a latte which was spilled over my mug and was colder than the frozen aisle in Asda. After 5 minutes the second half of my table was given away as my 3rd friend had not joined us in time. No apologies given from them which was nice as it made it easier for me to show my disdain at their attitude. After my 3rd friend arrived and was ushered into a small wedge at our table they attempted to order 'bread etc'. Apparently this is not a valid option, you have to order a breakfast before being allowed access to the haloed bread and shop bought spreads (am I the only one that thinks toast is the worst part of a breakfast meal?). To not allow someone to order just toast and spread at an establishment which has toasters on the table (a massive inconvenience at the best of times but made far worse when sharing a table for 2 between 3 people) seems ridiculous to me. In the end my 3rd friend left and had a lovely sandwich from brickwood for a fraction of the price. I left unhappy and with a severely diminished passion for toast...

No poached eggs, dry "healthy" food, arrogant twatish staff, pact seating arrangements and ridiculously overpriced (£35 for two breakfasts +drink). Why bother? There are plenty of nicer breakfast places on Clapham High Street that will help you start your day better.

Highly recommend the unique, modern British urban bakery and cafe, specialising in Sourdough Breads. The pizzas are £5 in the evening, meaning dinner out on a Friday in Clapham came to an amazing value of £10. Very rare! The venue is lit and decorated to make you feel like you are eating somewhere much more cosy and comfortable than a restaurant.

This place is better known for its breakfasts, but we also enjoy the pizzas that they do for an exceptionally reasonable £5 Tuesdays to Saturdays in the evening. There are several pizzas from which to choose and when we ate here last, we had the ham and mozzarella and the prosciutto. You can add extra toppings for a small extra sum. You also get a lovely coleslaw on the side included in the price. The pizzas are made in front of you, so you know that what you're getting is fresh. They take hardly any time to cook in the oven so unless it's very busy, you don't have to wait that long. The desserts are also excellent. We shared a sticky date cake, with custard and it was absolutely divine. Not sure we could have eaten one each (well, maybe I could), but certainly worth sharing. The drinks menu is reasonable, with a good choice of wine and beer. If you ask for water, you get a jug and some jam jars - quirky and fun. The atmosphere is really comfortable and it's a great night out for an exceptionally reasonable price. Since I pass it every night, it's a constant temptation not to order a takeaway pizza all the time.

My wife and I visited on Saturday lunchtime 6th September 2014, and as warned on the review we had read, had a wait of 20 minutes to get in, but anything this good is well worth waiting for. Friendly, polite staff who couldn't do enough for you, and unlimited supplies of all types of bread for you to toast at your table, and top with any kind of jam, preserve or even peanut butter while you wait for your selection from the menu to arrive. And what portions! We had the vegetarian super-size omelette, filled with whatever we wanted and topped with cheese which was delicious. People next to us had a full English breakfast and a magnificent platter it looked as well. So big I think even Red Rum himself would have had to think twice before trying to jump over it! The whole experience was so different, the atmosphere lovely and laid-back and the staff so pleasant. You could stay as long as you liked and we were really glad we tracked this place down. It is quite simply a must-visit establishment, and we will certainly be back whenever we are in London. Go there very soon!

Quirky and unique. This unassuming cafe/bakery is a delightful retreat from the busy Clapham high street. At first glance the menu seems expensive, this is until you realise that it includes a Unlimited self serve of the freshly baked bread (many types) and freshly churned butter. I had the Scandinavian platter which was huge! So big that I couldn't finish it (I'm a big guy, that alone takes some doing). After reading other reviews, I concede that the service was a little slow but they were always friendly and helpful if you had any questions. The coffee was pretty decent too. I have just moved to the area and am definitely considering becoming a regular. Highly recommended.

It's unlimited homemade breads, with homemade butter and a vast range of jams/nutella/peanut butter etc etc... what's not to love? It's just the Sunday queue that makes me sad. If you're after a table for just 2, the queue is a lot quicker! The service is generally ok- I recommend the soft option but recently got the fruit salad with unlimited breads-ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS. I love this place :) Just not the queue...(Also the £5 are extremely delicious! But the olives are crap.)

We dropped into Breadcetera on Sunday 10 Aug approaching 5pm, because my girlfriend had heard it sold excellent breads. The cafe itself looked nice, but we only wanted to buy a loaf to take away. Our first interaction was with a harrassed looking waitress walking towards us, without any greeting, saying only: "cafe is closed, cafe is closed". But the main door was open, there was no sign saying 'Closed' and there were 4-5 guests still eating in there. We explained that we wanted to buy a loaf of sourdough bread, and the waitress seemed pretty grudging as she served us, no pleasantries, no smiles.Having arrived home, we opened the bread to serve some guests that evening, but found that it was pretty stale and dry. It wasn't cheap; £2.40 I think. And they claim to bake them all each day.Overall it was a disappointing experience, and I guess we'll continue to buy bread from Tesco!

I've tried, I swear I've tried and after four visits I still can't understand why this place gets so much attention. The concept of DIY toast bread is fun, but there is no much science to toasts, butter and store-bought spreads. Other options from the breakfast/brunch menu such as omelettes, fruit and nut french toast, and the soft option breakfast (boiled eggs, toasted sourdough, bacon) are absolutely average. In all of my visits the staff has been slow and rather unhelpful. Perhaps they're too full of themselves, perhaps they're having a bad day, the thing is that they seldom pay any attention to customers. I even had the chance to witness them being extremely rude to a customer that dared to ask why he was being charged what he was being charged.Maybe the real treasure here are the evening pizzas, but unfortunately I've only visited this place during mornings. Or perhaps it's one of those places where people likes to see and be seen. In any case, food and service are definitely not the reason of this place's success.

Continuing my voyage of discovery of brunches round London and living not far from the Common I had to check this place out to see if it lived up to the hype. I managed to catch a Sun lunchtime without a queue and settled down at a small table with some of the fab bread whilst waiting for my eggs and bacon. The range of bread is good as is the range of jams, marmalades etc and the at table toaster a quirky touch - although somewhat annoying when the couple sharing the toaster on the next table were unable, to master the art of supervising toast and I had to keep reminding them it was burning! The eggs and bacon on sourdough were well executed and the coffee ok and the staff were efficient, however the tables are small and the place felt a little cramped for my liking. However definitely one to take visitors to for the novelty - will it be a regular haunt for me? The jury's out

The staff are friendly and the service was efficient. The £5 pizza was extremely good value - tasty and enough toppings on that you didn't feel hard done by. Although the beer selection is a little bit wanting, there are plenty of wines to choose from. One downside - the olives, which come in a nutella jar, were very overpriced for what you got and were poor quality - sort that out and this place would be excellent in my book. All in all, I would heartily recommend this place and it got a thumbs up from my half Italian friend - now that is a compliment!

After reading great reviews about this place my boyfriend and I went to try out the breakfast this morning. We were there by 10.30 and it was already heaving while other breakfast places along the road had lots of space. Promising! We doubled up on a table with another couple and got stuck into the homemade bread selection (wholemeal, white, olive etc,), the butter churned on site and lots of spreads (jam, marmalade, Nutella, peanut butter, honey). The toasters on the table were sweet and the way the place was set up created a community atmosphere and we ended up exchanging comments with both tables to either side. The service was brilliant and friendly despite a queue forming outside the door. I had the pancakes with maple syrup and cream, they were delicious but I only managed one (don't stuff yourself with toast beforehand like us, the portions are huge!). My boyfriend had the 'super duper huge omelette' with FIVE things in (pick what you want) which he was determined to finish. Lovely juice and fresh water served in jam jars. My boyfriend (the biggest coffee snob ever!) even complimented the coffee! The only reason I haven't given this place a five is because it was sweltering. There is no air con or even fans and with a toaster working hard on every table we were uncomfortably hot. One of toes places I'll be telling everyone about.

Breads Etcetera is a place I have visited previously. I always prefer to review somewhere on a second or third visit (unless the place is awful - lol). When I first visited here 2 to 3 years ago I had read about it in a London Guide. I came, I immersed myself in the DIY concept and found it to be fundamentally a quirky little place with a friendly buzz and eclectic atmosphere. Plus they offered great food with a twist of non pretentious but retro sophistication. On returning more recently, I am pleased to state that it hasn't lost its charm and still offers great food to tuck into. Its a simple concept that works. Highly recommended if you stumble into Clapham and need a bite to eat for Sunday Brunch.

Visited last month with OH due to review on Time Out best breakfasts south of the river. Found the place easily and looked nice and cosy. As this was our first visit the concept was explained to us, unlimited toast, which you can cut yourself from a selection of around 4 breads, with any breakfast purchased. Each table has a toaster on so you can toast the breads if you like. Selection was decent, could have been improved by a tastier white option, sourdough rather than bloomer perhaps. The home churned butter however was very tasty, and there was a good selection of jams etc. I ordered a cowboy breakfast, mainly for the novelty of the egg cooked in bread. The food was ok, bacon quite tasty, but overall nothing to write home about. Portions however were huge, if that's the thing that would sway you. OH had full english, only standout item was the sausage, rest fairly mediocre. Drinks are very overpriced, which is odd considering food prices reasonable. Service ok, it gets busy very quickly, and tables are shared, which given how small they are, is uncomfortable on all levels. Toilets were truly awful, outside and verging on dirty. Overall I would not return, which is a shame as I think the concept is a good one.

This restaurant is a little different with breakfast or brunch being the meals served. Every table has an electric toaster on it and the idea is that everyone helps themselves to freshly made artisan breads (walnut, wholemeal, olive .....) toasting the slices at their individual table. The restaurant itself is quite small and cramped, therefore sharing tables is commonplace. Water glasses are recycled jam jars - a little strange, but there is a cozy buzz to the premises. Menu food was very good - smoked salmon, lightly boiled eggs, bacon, sausage - all served on toast of your choice. Staff were brisk and efficient.

The breakfast menu is full of great choices ranging from giant omelettes, to french toast and pancakes, and with unlimited help yourself toast who can complain! We weren't allowed to take a seat until our entire party arrived and were asked to wait outside as it's only small, which I can understand and the waiter was very attentive in checking on us. However the popularity of this place meant that during our breakfast a large queue was forming outside the door so we felt very rushed to leave immediately after we'd finished which wasn't the best. The food was delicious, good value and the toaster on the table idea is genius, but not a place to visit if you want to stay and chat afterwards.

This is an amazing place I come to as often as I can, with friends, family, and even with little children (no high chair but can get in with a small buggy). Their bread is excellent. The main dishes can satisfy anyone (large and ecclectic choice). As the place is not too roomy, you will have to queue if you want to have a large table at critical hour (week ends, around midday), but it's the price to pay and it's worth it, cause after you sit down, you can stay 2 hours in this cosy place. I recommend.

The portions were large, staff were friendly and we had a good time. We did go at 10:15 am which is probably before it gets really packed though which may have helped. Went in for late lunch on rainy Thursday afternoon.Started off ok although on sitting down we waited for 5 minutes for a menu to be given to us then on deciding had to prompt the waitress to order. Despite this we carried on with toast, drinks and then food arrived which we all enjoyed. On asking for our bill we saw that had been charged with an extortionate charge for our daughters food - £14 for scrambled egg and one sausage! And she is only 3 years! This proceeded with a ridiculous discussion with our waitress that this was normal and we should have ordered different if did not want to be charged so much! She then went on to say it was not her business and she did not care! After explaining to her that charging £14 for eggs and one sausage was more than their full English she said she would change the bill. The new bill was presented to us in an off hand way. We paid and left. This whole experience, and in agreement with other comments about the disgusting toilets means that we will not be back. Think this cafe is resting too much on its weekend hangover trade, re train their staff on the till and have a good clean of the whole restaurant. Overall experience less than average.

This little café is well worth the (apparently inevitable) queue on a Sunday morning - or any morning, come to this of it. This Sunday it was pouring it down, and being welcomed into the warmth of this convivial little place was a huge relief! It was warm, cosy, and the waitresses were all very friendly. The sourdough bread is freshly baked, and truly delicious - and the novelty of toasting it and then buttering it / spreading it / covering it in Nutella yourself is a lot of fun! My three friends all chose the French toast - with bacon AND fruit! - and seemed very happy with the large portion indeed. I had a delicious bowl of porridge with some fresh fruit and yoghurt. The bill wasn't at all expensive anyway, and to shelter from the rain and stuff ourselves with tasty breakfast food, it was definitely worth it! (My only criticism was that our jug of water initially arrived full of toast!)

Consigliatissimo!

A really quirky place, great atmosphere, loved the idea of having the toasters on the table and the bread buffet. As a non wheat eater I didn't actually choose to come to a place that had "bread" in its name! But my friends chose it and I assumed there would be some gluten free options on the menu. However there were none, although bread is their speciality there are no wheat alternatives, rye/spelt etc which I found surprising. My only option was porridge which was actually gorgeous, perfectly cooked and accompanied by a huge array of fruit. It's very unusual to go anywhere these days in London that doesn't cater to food intolerances so I was quite disappointed that this restaurant has not caught up with the rest.

We all had something different -full English (no black pudding though unfortunately), Cowboy breakfast etc. and it was all really tasty. My only suggestion to make it better (and hygienic) would be to ensure that plenty of clean knives and spoons are made available to serve the communal spreads - no one wants to eat something that someone else has dipped their used cutlery into!

Although there is a novelty in all the spreads and condiments for your bread, plus cutting and toasting the bread yourself, £8.95 for a very average and not especially generous english breakfast (£9.95 for full english) is not great value. After parking at Sainsbury's, it’s just a couple of doors down to the Ferm (Breads Etcetra) where it's a kind of 'Do It Yourself' style Lunch. The food revolves around fresh Sour Dough loaves that you help yourself to and eat as it is or Toast at your table before spreading as much or little Butter as you like. The bread is supplemented by a good choice of food ranging from Salads to Full English Breakfast.Certainly, you will not go hungry after eating here and the price is quite reasonable (it cost us £10 per person for breakfast brunch and Coffee). What stopped it getting the additional star was the state of the Loo's (tiles falling off, bins were full and the whole room slightly dirty) and if only they would supply tea towels for handling the Bread while you cut it, instead of everyone holding each Loaf with possibly grubby hands!Apart from that small criticism we would love to come back one evening and try the Sour Dough Pizza.
