Effra Social in Lambeth

This former conserva-spit club has lost a little of its retro charm since changing owners but has gained a lovely heated outdoor space. The food is good and there are DJs every weekend with sold out comedy shows in the week. Had my birthday here the other day, great room great service great food, courtesy of Remy and Remy (sic). Would recommend and would definitely come again!

I had an absolutely amazing buttermilk chicken burger with 50% off on Mondays! Also had a cheap £4.50 pint for their happy hour and enjoyed my drink and meal in their beer garden. Definitely coming back again.

This place is busy for a reason! Went for early dinner last night with friends, it's the perfect spot to soak up the evening sun in the buzzy beer garden. Excellent service, and our lovely waitress was efficient and attentive. The food was great, we shared a couple of starters/small plates. It's an old conservative club and has so much character with walls lined with interesting memorabilia and a great retro vibe. Really recommend it as all the staff seem so lovely and the atmosphere is fun and vibey, will definitely be back!

My favourite pub! Staff are incredible and food is always great. Would recommend getting the Korean chicken bites or veggie burger if you’re eating. Also rented the studio room for our staff party which was incredible and very reasonably priced. Bonus is that all the staff are hotties!

Good place for drinks and nibbles in the area. They have got a really nice deck to enjoy drinks on a sunny day. The service was really friendly and the starters were good too.

What happened to Effra Social? A couple of years ago it was always buzzing and the atmosphere was really cool. It’s lost all sense of its identity and seems to have turned really mainstream. I thought I’d give it another chance for New Year’s Eve but that was a serious mistake. I paid for an 80’s night but instead it was a bunch of wrongens (all on gear) side stepping to repetitive house. No more chances now.

Came here for a private birthday dinner with family. It's on the main road, nearest tube Brixton. 10 minute walk or 2 minute bus ride. Nice drinking area out the front but to get a drink you have to go upstairs though and down stairs. A bit awkward if ordering for multiple people. A private room is ok for a sit down dinner but that's all no space for anything else. Drinks like everywhere are overpriced! Service was good and friendly staff.

Just had to share. Witnessed an employee called Nick give some of the best customer service. He was personable and kind and then,apologitic for a simple mistake which he rectified with a round on the house. Perfect example of a great server and good food and drink to go with it!

Arrived for a booked table to eat. We were told they weren't taking orders for food on account of a very large party that had just ordered. That's fair enough and we were told they would be taking orders again in 20 minutes, so we ordered drinks and waited 20 minutes only to be told they still weren't taking orders for food but they would be in 15 more minutes. Again we waited 15 minutes and surprise surprise were told to wait another 15 minutes. At this point we left. Being unable to provide a service to booked guests is bad enough but then stringing them along for an hour is unacceptable. If they'd have just been honest about the situation in the kitchen from the start and apologised for the inconvenience it would have been a lot quicker and easier for us to have simply made an informed decision as to whether to stay and wait or eat somewhere else.

We had a table booking for this afternoon, hoping for a Sunday roast. We were told food orders weren’t being taken for 20 minutes, which is fine. But then it turned into around an hour of waiting to be allowed to order food. We ended up leaving which was devastating as we had heard very nice things after moving nearby!

They got 100% good customer service and good security protection

It makes me feel uncomfortable to type reviews that aren't glowing but I do also believe that reviews should be honest. I'm a big fan of The Effra, the staff are absolutely lovely, drinks are always good and a reasonable price but it's the food service that's letting it down. For the second time running my friend and I headed to The Effra for a Sunday roast. After 40 minutes I chased it up only to be told the chef had forgotten and now there wasn't anything left. So we left; we had a refund for the food not the wine and departed hungry, annoyed and a bit tipsy. We waited almost an hour last time before chasing it, being told it was on the way but we cancelled as it had taken too long. I'll still go to The Effra but for drinks only.

Great Sunday roast experience, very tasty and the staff were super accommodating when I asked for my beef to be cooked pink, and even got me a fresh plate when the first one came out well done. The last roast booking is 6 pm, so it's a nice option if you want something a bit later than the mid-afternoon cutoff I usually see in this area.

Fried egg burnt to a crisp. Chips undercooked. Had to get our own cutlery. No salt vinegar or sauce. Vegan burger

Popped in for a drink and my contactless wasn't working right and my payment was denied and I had no idea why... The barman was great 👍 I felt like an idiot 😂 nice place and very much like the TARDIS when you go in 🔵 There's seating outside and you can smoke. My friend and I came here for some post-work drinks. The atmosphere is welcoming and vibrant, in fact, I would possibly refer to it as an unofficial queer/gay bar in Brixton. With a Pride flag flying high and a Pint that donates to queer charities it certainly screams welcome at all angles. I helped myself to their margaritas, both normal and strawberry which were on point. I did not try the food but my eyes wandered when plates went past me and it certainly looked delicious. There is both an indoor and outdoor space which offers ample choice of ambience. I cannot give a strong opinion on the inside but my visits to the bar were greeted with lovely staff and a live band so I can't complain. An overall wonderful experience and would recommend a visit if you're in the area.

Even having booked the Churchill Room for us to get together, there was no food available. Although food did appear and disappear through side doors (to the dungeons? to delivery people?? who knows). Service at the bar is very willing, but also really slow. It's a lovely building with a great outdoor frontage but it's really chaotic otherwise. Tolerant, but chaotic

Average escape room contained within

Went to the attached escape room, had a great time there. Afterwards wanted to have a quick drink afterwards before heading out. Order a few drinks but mainly stayed in order to have, I think, a couple of sundaes. Waited 20 minutes before going to ask how long it’ll be. Stood at the bar being ignored for 10 minutes before asking. Waited another 20 minutes before going to ask, at which point I was told they had “lost” the ticket and it was on its way. Asked to have a refund, which I believe I was short changed for. Spent almost as long waiting for some ice creams we never had, as we did in the actual escape room.

Effra social is a great place to get afew drinks or food i visit this pub alot the staff is amazing they are all great and welcoming and fun to talk too the food is always well presented and great specialy the sunday roasts even now and then so i do recomend people to come check this place out since every week they have diferent events from dj/ stand up comedy/ jazz/ and quizz night so the place always has something for everyone love the place and the staff since they are what make effra social a great place to be

Good for drinks and a great outdoor bit. Indoor side room has Winston Churchill features which are a bit rogue. Great quiz, but the indoor room is like a dead school dance hall when it’s not on.

From the moment I contacted the Effra Social Club events team to enquire about hosting a 40th birthday they have been nothing short of amazing. Jess and her team helped me throw a birthday party that my guests and I will remember forever. Ben the barman was so lovely and Jess took real care making sure we were looked after. The venue is full of charm, the food is delicious and the staff are incredible. I couldn’t recommended this beautiful place more highly. I want to have all my birthday parties here.

Great atmosphere, we went to the Tuesday quizz night, it gets very busy so best to book online beforehand if you plan to go. Great night out!

I hired the Churchill Room last Friday for my birthday and had a fantastic night. The staff were attentive and relaxed and made us feel so welcome. Really good comms in the lead up. Petra looked after us so well on the night. We brought our own DJ and the space really came to life later in the evening too. Thanks guys, it was a brilliant night. xx

Came the other week on very busy Friday night and had a great time! The staff and management did such a good job getting everyone in our group sorted even though there was more of us than we had booked. DJ was great too - will defo be back

I booked a table for 12 for my 30th birthday, 8 weeks prior. I specifically asked for a table when I made the booking and I phoned on the morning of our visit to confirm the table. When we arrived, we were given a table for 4 right beside the bar. When we questioned this, staff told us that the rest of the party could stand, which was completely unacceptable. We were then told to wait and that they would try to find more chairs. Nothing happened for an hour. We were then moved to table for 6, still with half the party having to stand. We were given some free prosecco but the staff were incredibly rude and the evening was definitely not what I had in mind for my birthday!

Last night I order 2 pints of beers, and got charged for £23.10 it wasn't very nice that we got overcharged, please contact me for refund

Big place. plenty of initiatives

FOOD: We had roast beef and cheesecake. The roast beef was very fatty, and where there was meat it was gelatinous, chewy, and difficult to cut (particularly with the poor quality knives supplied), so that we left more than we ate despite being hungry. I now remember it was like this over a year ago, so that's not likely to change. The 'cheesecake' served in little enamel dishes, was in fact some diminutive cheap-tasting biscuit-like substance with a cheesecake-like-substance piped on top in rosettes. SERVICE: Our aperitifs arrived minutes before our mains; our mains were served without a wine order being taken; our mains plates were left on the table for more than 30 minutes, obliging us to remove them ourselves; and our wine arrived with our puddings an hour after our mains. The staff were pleasant enough, just too inexperienced and stretched.

Didn't realise it had turned back into the Brixton Conservative Members Club after all these years. Glad they have a safe space but not for me.

Decent Brixton pub in a former Conservative Club. One cask beer and one cider on handpump when I last visited. Lots of outdoor seating most of it covered.

I love it here but the two barmen with the ginger beards are incredibly rude - especially to other staff. Swearing at them, in front of customers, is not on. Their aggression is uncalled for especially given the bar is largely over staffed…

Had to approach the serving staff members to order food and drinks. They seemed reluctant to meet my gaze as if I they might turn into stone. Food was reasonable but drinks menu limited for my liking, my colleagues choose this place for after works drinks and would resist this option again.

The chef has no idea how to do a roast dinner..and its Brixton. The chicken was white and the Yorkshire pudding was burnt to charcoal. The veg was tired. Decent venue just do not bother waste your time buying food
