Toss up between chicken or aubergine burger. I chose an aubergine burger for a healthy change. No patty...ONE slice of aubergine in a bun with salad. Cost £13 wish I'd spent £1 and had something worth eating! Overpriced rubbish

Tony has been absolutely amazing this evening . Anything we have asked for he has literally been our beck and call! The reason we come here every time is because of his service - we wouldn’t come anywhere else to watch the euros ! Friendly , attentive and just amazing ! Thank you x

Slightly bias as work for company, but just had the best roast. Potatoes were great and large portion. My son said ‘mum, the wings have chicken on them!’ . Sadly quiet as Lambeth Country show on down the road so atmosphere just picking up . Very happy and full . Thanks guys

Food was delicious - burgers are small portions for the price compared to the focaccia which was huge. Nice food and pub, train times on a electronic machine behind the bar a nice touch as well

The Great North Wood is a marvellous pub with a good range of beers, spirits and wines. It also serves great food. I was with friends who had a very top burger of meat and I had a vegan salad, no I'm not vegan, but as I am 65 I have my modelling career to consider of course. Food great, booze great, atmosphere great, and the staff were excellent and joined in with banter animal fcd humour. All round smashing!! Get there. You'll not be disappointed. I give this a TD rating. TOP DRAWER.And up to scratch still.

My dish was overcook but management did not charge me. My friend had a delicious haddock goujon sandwich which was thoroughly enjoyed.

This is our local but we ate for the first time last week. Had a great Sunday roast (including the veggie options!) and the staff are always so helpful and friendly.

Staff was amazing and helpful, I'm wheat & gluten intolerant, which is always an issue at pubs, but the manager was great about discussing all the options. (Fingers x'd about some GF onion rings in the future!) Doggo's get special treats and loads of clean water bowls available for fresh water. No mucky slobber bowls here. Food was freshly prepared and actually get to the table piping hot still, which is great. The fries are to die for.. no seriously.. some of the best I've had in a very long time & the BBQ chicken wings were crisped to perfection, while succulent inside, with just the right amount of sauce. The pub has an amazing vibe and caters for all. I seemed to arrive in the lull (thank goodness) as the place was in full swing by the time I left and was simply packed. Obviously a fan favourite and I can see why. Keep an eye out for diffirent events during the week as they seem to have a full calendar of entertainment. I'm definitely going to try a Thursday Jazz night next time I'm in the vicinity.

This pub is my local and me and my girlfriend LOVE it. However, during our last 4/5 visits our time has been ruined by someone who regularly brings their dog along which continuously barks throughout the evening. I am talking about a loud high-pitched bark that makes you feel completely unrelaxed and happens every 2/3 minutes. It’s a huge shame as it just means the pub isn’t a place you can come to relax or chat. We’ve both grown up with dogs and absolutely love them but when your dogs barking non-stop and people are leaving because of it - it’s time to take it home!

I love this pub. I lived in West Norwood for twenty seven years and was lucky to experience this place opening a couple of years before I left. A clear case of ‘if you build it, they will come’. The previous pub was an absolute disaster. In a desert of decent pubs, let alone places to eat, this pub is now an oasis in South London. I was killing time in south London in Jan 2024 and needed a place to eat. I remembered the GNW. It was odd to come back but I’m so glad I did. The steak I ordered was perfectly cooked. The chips were crisp and lovely and the onion rings were the same. I’m so glad the GNW has kept up its standards on all fronts. I will be back again. Thanks to the great staff as well. Keep up the good work.

The staff were friendly and helpful and the drinks selection pretty good but the food was terrible unfortunately and the lack of soft furnishings make it really loud when it's busy. I had a few of the small plates for dinner and the squid was so tough it was hard to chew. The prawn arancini smelled so fishy (and probably old) it was off-putting. The padron peppers weren't bad and my wine was delicious but I didn't feel the cooking met the expectations that the menu had set.

Best pub in the area. Good range of beers and ciders on tap.

Nice and Relaxed South London Pub, I went for the 80's night "Rebel Rebel" that is upstairs, but escaped downstairs for a better choice at the bar, fairly priced drinks, nice staff, lovely crowd. Me like!!!!

Some of our large party were disappointed there were no steak pies on the day we went. This information was a bit late in arriving. My fish and chips was wonderful. The chips were especially good. The person who served us was very obliging. A definite recommend.

Fantastic place to meet friends for drinks or take the family out for some food.

This is a pleasant pub. The train times show are helpful and it’s a reasonable atmosphere. Probably the best pub in the area. But staff are - whilst well meaning - slow and more interested in talking to one another. Worst, when presenting the card reader (note: cashless, card payments only) they will automatically add a service charge. So you won’t be presented with the option to tip or choose the amount - they do it automatically (when they can bring themselves to serve you!). Some people don’t mind this I know. But I do.

Always enjoy a visit to the great North Wood. Popped in yesterday afternoon with a few friends and children for a drink to celebrate the end of term, and the staff could not have been nicer. Friendly and accommodating, chatty and had a laugh with both adults and kids. Pub was lovely and cosy, lively but not chaotic. Enjoyed my chicken burger and fries, would order again. Thanks for having us.

Good local beers - inc By The Horns, and a great upstairs event space. Also nice to see an electronic train departures board behind the bar, so that you can see when your train is expected.

Great pub with friendly staff and food is always tasty! Beer selection is varied and always have craft beers available. The jazz night and cocktail specials are always a winner. Bonus points for live train times behind the bar!

Am a West Norwood local and have been coming for a while. Finally got around to reviewing the place! Great food and service, all staff are helpful and proactive, especially the Welsh manager who’s always in good spirits and cracking jokes. They ran out of Guinness once which upset me but I couldn’t ask for a better local and family pub!

Best pub in West Norwood. Decent burgers, food generally consists of reliable classics, friendly staff, 1-3 well kept real ales - the landlord strives for interesting/local beer (tied pub) - recently they've had Otter, Thornbridge, By the Horns, Bexley etc. Jazz upstairs on Thursdays is great. This place has really found its feet and seems to be thriving.

Rude, unpleasant, arrogant, and unprofessional manager. I won't be returning to this pub. A formal, detailed complaint has been submitted to CG Pubs Head Office via email. I await a response. Update: In response to my complaint to Head Office following disturbing and threatening behaviour from the manager towards my 2-year-old, a written apology was received. Nevertheless, given the nature of the incident, I won't be returning to this pub.

Bar staff were incredible with drinks, but we booked a table for dinner at 7 and by the time we ordered at 7:50 were told the kitchen had closed despite it saying online it closed at 10 and no-one telling us on arrival or drinks orders that was different

Nice pub right next to West Norwood station. Looks somewhat dark from the windows outside but is in fact light and pleasant inside. Staff has always been helpful to me. The pub is great to watch sports while still keeping a light atmosphere. You can meet all types of people there, which is great and somewhat rare for a sports-focused pub.

Great staff, lots of entertainment from live sports to music and quizzes. A decent selection of beers/Ales and the food is of a good standard but could do with a refresh occasionally.

The food is very tasty, the beer garden is secluded and lovely. Can even check the train times while sitting in the bar.

It's my local so I am going to happily declare my biased view, but it is genuinely a great pub considering its location limitations. A far cry from the old days as the Norwood Hotel, the beer selection is great, friendly service and lovely, easy-going atmosphere to catch up with friends. They even managed to fashion a half decent beer garden. It's one of the best places to get a Guinness too, clearly a well looked after keg cellar!

Food could have been better but was alright for a gastropub. Staff were all super friendly and greeter and served us really quickly! Found the idea of a live departure board above the bar very fun, also the playlist is excellent

The steak sandwich used to be served (May 2023) in good quality home-style bread with ample filling. On this occasion (August 2023) however, the bread was the cheapest packet bread, one slice burnt, the other hardly toasted and the filling much less than before. Definitely won't be repeating lunch here. Sad as it's our 'local'.

I ordered the steak sandwich, there was hardly any steak inside of it, the bit of steak that was there was chewy, the salad on the side was turning brown and had no dressing on it, the table had hair on it. The arancini was dry and the rice inside was quite dense. My friend ordered the fish finger sandwich and found a huge pea inside of it. The drinks recommended by the bar man was lovely and made us welcome. But the food isn't that great I'm afraid.

Outstanding. Food was full of flavour and cooked to perfection. Huge portions and great variety of dishes. Staff are good fun and worked so hard - we came on a Sunday and it was v busy but they were efficient and really helpful.

Went to the great North Wood to have something to eat. The food was great and got served by Shannon, who was nice. Danny came over and asked if we were doing ok. The staff are very friendly and helpful.

This is such a lovely pub, great selection of beers and ales, staff are friendly and attentive and the place is clean and welcoming. However, this the 3rd time in 6 weeks that I've come in and your lovely beer garden has been shut due to being "short staffed". I understand that things can be hard to monitor if you don't have the right amount of staff, but when you are locking a door which is clearly a fire exit is extremely dangerous, as well as being illegal! I sincerely hope you guys sort this issue out as as much as you probably think this is a minor issue it really isn't...I sincerely hope I don't have to experience this total negligence again.

We used the rooms upstairs for our party. Absolutely fantastic experience: very helpful, friendly staff; great space with dancing and sitting options, food was delicious. Minimum spend on the bar (easily achieved) but otherwise no charge - can’t get better value than that!

Our group of 14 had an excellent experience while visiting The Great North Wood. The food was delicious. We had roast pork belly, beef, chicken,fish and chips burgers and a few hot snacks. Everything was just delicious. And the Conrad, who attended us, have done excellent job throughout various hours we've been there. I highly recommend the place.
