My daughter and son-in-law took me to the Golden Elephant as a Mother's day treat. They know it is my favourite restaurant in the area. I was not disappointed. Joe (the owner) was very welcoming and the staff were very friendly and helpful. The food and atmosphere were excellent. I can thoroughly recommend it.

This is the second time we ordered from Ruby's as a takeaway, first time I asked for a medium spice dish in a nice thick sauce NOT tomatoey. It arrived as a really hot spicy dish in a tomato sauce with tomatoes In it, the complete opposite to what we asked for. I called them to express our disappointment and they offered a free main course next time. So we tried again. Last night we asked for saffron chicken which description says a creamy sauce, he said it was mild so I asked if it could be made medium , it arrived and tasted disgusting, like a perfume taste! If I had of paid for it I would have called them . I will not be ordering from them again..would definitely not recommend!

So disappointed. The place was very busy noisy but not with a good atmosphere. No organisation even though we booked a table. The staff apart from a young lad who was friendly, I think we would have got up and left. Orders taken and starters arrived looking very bland and without any salad or dressings. If you asked for anything, they either didn’t hear what you said or it was a big deal. Even before we had finished our starters actually eating them, a waiter walked up and said Main’s?? When I asked for 5 mins he gave me a stare!. The food was ok nothing special, we had gone for the Indian option which was hot but that’s it have eaten much better in a smaller basic restaurant. I couldn’t finish or wanted to get out so asked to take some food home, was given take away containers at the table and had to scrape my own food into them? Not done that before!😂 Safe to say we won’t be going back anytime soon, very disappointed. If you want a pub that’s loud and has sports on but happy to be seated in cramped area with no thrills it’s your place.

After looking at the reviews, we head out to the restaurant and unfortunately it was a bad experience & a costly one. We were given a table ( 5 of us ) , the initial impression of the interior looked lovely, the auto rickshaw parked inside was a good photo opportunity. Looking at the menu card like very high premium prices, but thinking they supposed to be tasty food, enough for all, we ordered about 10 starters, all came late and not hot, a portion of rolls (2) costs an eye watering £7 ( it's 75p each usually) £7 is way exaggerated price that wasn't proper ceylon rolls either.. the pork dish also didn't taste any good and very small ( yet highly priced ) alongside the spicy fried squid, that was bland with peppers on top. Moving on to drinks, the glasses were full of ice and 330ml can soft drink that costing over £5, the ordered wine glases were OK, standard. Main menu, we were told there are no mutton dishes served, eventhough menu card said & moreover there was no biriyani dishes was on the menu, there should be no srilankan restaurants without biriyani, to our surprise options were limited, so we ordered chicken kothu, again it tool nearly an hour to serve ( the restaurant was about 20%full) and local parking had 2 hour limit we expected the lunch would not take 2 hours but there was lot of waiting, eventually the kothu main was served , surprise again, far small potion of it,it's enough for a child but not adults,we had to hurriedly eat and leave without feeling full or content, the kothu was spicy but lacked ingredients. The bill was in our view, based on places we have eaten srilankan food was double & it was a bad choice going to this place. We don't think the food & drink served both in quality and quantity justified of the price was charged and the unacceptable delays in serving food. Sorry I would give no stars for ruining affer family get together Sunday lunch. But the 2 stars for the friendly waitress.

Absolutely appalled by the experience we had on Sat night. Booked a table for 11 people (family came down from Ipswich, a yearly catch up). It was booked a couple of months ago and confirmed on the day. Was never told there were a few sittings. Our meal came fairly quickly and all was good up to that point. As soon as our meal was finished so our bill came which we never asked for as we were still drinking. They never even asked if we wanted a dessert or further drinks. We sat for a short while but was asked to leave as they needed the table. We were fuming as it had only been just over an hour since we got there. A long way to come for an hour. Needless to say we will not be going there again. So please when booking there make sure they tell how long you have.
