Chez Mumtaj

St Peters, St Albans
25/04/2020: Have been visiting Chez Mumtaj for many years now , the best restaurant in St Albans in my opinion but tonight due to Covid 19 had a takeaway which of course is a different menu . It was excellent and certainly maintained the CM standard . Well done Mr Rahman and Team ! We will be having again but can’t wait to come back to your great restaurant , hopefully not too long !
21/03/2020: Thank you Chad, Arzoo and everyone at Chez Mumtaj for braving the adversity and coming up with an incredible take away menu. We loved our take away food did not compromise on the taste at all. Best Indian take away ever! Not to mention the joy and keeping our morale up! Thank you so much and keep it up for all of us❤️❤️❤️

Chilli Bar & Kitchen

St Peters, St Albans, >100£

The Golden Elephant

Wheathampstead, St Albans
01/03/2020: order was taken, had to wait a while as they seem to be more interested in getting takeawys out and deliveries.we ordered a platter for 4 adults and a few extras for 2children.all we got was i spare rib each 1 chicken on a stick and a prawn pancake.nothing for kids.after about a 45 minute wait part of our order didn,t turn up and there was extra rice which we didn,t main was sweet and sour chicken which i didn,t order, but had it anyway.portions are now tiny.have been here several times since opening and it was really good, even recommended to friends and family.not anymore.we could have ordered from a different chinese and probably only have to pay about £35 as a takeaway and got a decent meal, instead of paying £144. should have gone to more recomendations from me.and wont be going there again.
15/02/2020: Visited last May for our anniversary so thought another visit was in order. Ordered the set menu for 2 people @ 17.50 each and then a Thai green curry as as extra. The sweet and sour pork was cold and also the crispy beef. The rice was also hard. When it came to paying the food came to £49! £14 for a Thai curry? Sure we was overcharged. Also they charged us a 10% service charge even though there was only 2 of us. So with drinks ended up paying £7 service charge. Felt like a wasted £77. Wont be going back anytime soon

The Viceroy

St Stephen, St Albans
04/02/2020: First time here but not the last. Friendly service, chef had been cooking here for 35 years and seems to have got the hang of it
06/11/2019: Visited this place tonight for the first time in years as I’m not usually in this area Fantastic food and very friendly staff Lamb madras and paneer tikka chilli side both exceptional I shall be sure to return very soon

Kimaya Noodle & Sushi Bar

St Peters, St Albans
13/02/2020: I had a really lovely service here recently. I’ve been going for years and the food is really good. On Monday got 50% off my bill which was pretty nice too but I would reccomend you book gets busy. Would really reccomend the spicy Singapore noodles are probably their best dish.
29/10/2019: What a fantastic place. I went with my son and his friend for a bite to eat. I couldn’t have been a better place. My son had the noodles. His friend has the Katsu curry. He said it was the best he’s ever had (and apparently he has it every time he goes out)! My gyoza and sushi were delicious. Great service and good value for money with large portions. Would totally recommend.

Jamie's Italian

St Peters, St Albans
04/06/2019: Remember from last year it was a wow visit and the chef made special Red chillie Paste for Us went on New Year’s Eve with family .
28/12/2018: Food was very overpriced for what it was and putting a ridiculously hot spice on the children’s chips was not appropriate.

Bengal Spice

Sandridge, St Albans
10/11/2019: Tonight we placed a takeaway order through the Bengal Spice's own website. We received a confirmation email to say our order would be with us at 7:06pm this evening. At 7:30 I rang Bengal Spice only to find out they had lost our order. Moreover, they could only offer us a 10% discount and a 45 (yes, 45!!) minute wait to replace it. I hope they feel this is acceptable and hope they resolve the issue before they leave another family disappointed and with no food on their mother's birthday! Do not order from here to avoid disappointment!
16/06/2019: Four of us were here on 15/6/19 & had a great evening. Wonderful food (best Indian meal in a long time), friendly staff & good atmosphere. The fact we can walk here is great. No need for a taxi! If you live in the Marshalswick/Jersey Farm area & not tried it yet then do! I’m sure you won’t be disappointed. Thank you Bengal Spice for a lovely evening & great food! We will be back soon

Balti Village

Harpenden East, St Albans
11/04/2020: When our kids were tiny, used to get take away from Balti Village all the time...then they got old enough to eat out, moved on to the New Taj, which is our spiritual home. But they are closed during lockdown, so back to Balti Village it is. Wow. Great on line ordering portal, timely delivery, good value and really nice food. Thanks so much guys.
06/05/2019: Worst veg curry I have ever seen... It was 60% water I double checked to see if I had ordered soup. No flavour either looked and tasted like dish water. I can honestly say you get a better curry out of a Jar from tesco. kimpton spice from now on, it's a shame Balti Village used to be so good if you recently changed chef then change again because serving food like this you will be out of business by Christmas ...

The Jade Garden

St Peters, St Albans
09/06/2017: I have know Kim since I was born 51 years ago (he worked with my father at BRE). When he first opened the restaurant we visited many time, but being a small girl I said that I did not like Chinese and always had the 'Chinese' fish n chips that he did with soy sauce. I did change my mind and have had many happy memories at the Jade, my 18th, my 21st (Kim catered for it as a special treat and delivered it to our home). Their family attended my wedding and since my daughter was born and still in her pram we still visited the Jade and took her with us. She is now 20. My parent still visited the restaurant all the was from Somerset (where they retired to) and my brother & his family from Kent so we could still have family celebrations there. I know that everyone in my family will miss this place and I will look at my Jade Garden chop sticks that still has the writing on them as a very happy memory. We all wish Kim and Lauretta a fab retirement. They both deserve it after working here (and at Yummy's in Watford) so hard for so many years. Love to you both.
