Chilli Bar & Kitchen in St Albans

Was very disappointed eating here on December 21st 2023, ordered a Ceylon curry, but it had no taste of coconut at all, as Ceylons should do? made waiter aware of this and we accepted his answer. Though curry sauce was very nice, it’s not what was ordered? Will eat here again though, the Same issue again! on 19th march 2024 ordered Ceylon curry that didn’t taste of coconut, WHY!

Food OK, but if I could give a -10 for service and atmosphere, I would! We went on a quite Tuesday night in February and from the get go, the waiters had a serious attitude and were so rude, it was almost laughable! When they bought the wrong bread, they accused me of ordering the wrong one!!! Unbelievable! I've never had service like it, they were arrogant, rude and had NO manners. Food was passable but would NEVER go again due to appalling service and zero atmosphere!

Lovely and tasty meal with friends. This place is just a short stroll for us so a perfect place to go for a saturday (or any night) meal with friends.

Lovely food, nice atmosphere and excellent service. What more could you ask for? Definitely the best Indian restaurant locally to spend the evening.

The Chilli Bar & Kitchen is a very smart place and spotlessly clean. I liked the beautifully starched white linen tablecloths and napkins. The service is faultless; there is always someone hovering to help, including careful advice over dietary needs. The food is outstanding and portion sizes are generous. Only the menu card concerned me: it is just too big and comprehensive, difficult to get one's mind around.

Arrived for dinner on a Monday evening, the welcome was followed throughout the rest of the evening with very friendly and helpful staff. We chose the Monday evening fixed meal offering which was good value and gave you a good saving across having a starter, main and coffee. The meals were very well presented and they tasted as good as they looked, the quality of the food and tastes were excellent and I'd strongly recommend eating at this restaurant.

Food was okay, not really much to write home about but filled a hole. Took over an hour to get our starters and then another hour to get our mains. Normally I struggle to finish an Indian but I actually left hungry. It was very busy so atmosphere was okay but the whole place was freezing! I sat eating wearing a coat the whole time, 3/4 of our party were really cold and the amount you pay you’d hope they could pop on some heating

Wouldn’t normally complain but the food I have just received was vile. Chicken tikka masala tasted as though some one had sprayed perfume in it. Rice and potatoes were stale. £30 I’ll be spending else where.

The curries were quite bland. The naans were a hit but everything else wasnt . .

We went here on the 21st Dec and must say the food was absolutely amazing and the staff were very friendly. The restaurant is very spacious too!

When we arrived the restaurant was empty, but the staff wanted to seat up in a remote table hidden away that no one would want. In the end the staff saw sense and sat us at a much better table. Food is excellent and tasty, portions are generous. This is the second time here and it is rapidly becoming our favourite Indian restaurant in St Albans....we will be back

Empty restaurant, yet they tried to seat us at the worst table in the building, almost as if they wanted us to hide away...nevermind in the end they saw sense and gave us a nice table. The food was without fail delicious we could not fault the cooking at at, and portions are generous. Only niggle was it was a shame the Okra was cut into such small pieces. Service was attentive with a smile. This is rapidly becoming our favourite South Asian restaurant in St Albans We will be returning

Absolutely disgusting toilets, You can blame the customers but you also should consider very big restaurant very busy and only one toilet only somebody with a brain would understand that you should have somebody attending to that toilet on the weekend to keep it clean make sure it's not blocked it was disgusting and it put me off the whole restaurant to be honest

I had the king prawn dansaak. My absolute favourite and have had several restaurants version over the years. The lentil sauce was delicious but was let down by the stars themselves… the king prawns! Badly overcooked, dry, not the texture of a cooked king prawn that I’ve ever eaten?! Im sorry to say that I shall not be eating that dish again!

Sensational food and an unbelievable delivery turn around. Amazing.

The food at this restaurant is simply amazing the best in the City. Had the sizzler and it was so tasty and filled the whole plate- all the food was great and made for an excellent evening out. For St Albans the prices were very reasonable for the best quality food. The staff were friendly and I will definitely be back soon

Nice restaurant, good food. But I really don't like a service charge being added to the bill. A tip should be left to the customers descretion, and given directly to the person that served you.

Portions were small. Onion bhaaji small dry and cold. £7.45 for 5 tiny pieces of meat for a mixed starter! Main courses were very oily. Not the usual standard. Ordered to share with friends from up North so were extremely disappointed

The food was very good and always has been. However, I had to call the restaurant as our order hadn’t arrived after an hour and a half. They said that the order hadn’t printed out This is the second time this happened within a couple of months. I gave them the benefit of the doubt the first time (mistakes happen), but I’d be hesitant to order again as we did have to wait 2 hours.

The food was extremely tasty. The staff were fast and friendly and the restaurant facilities were exceptional. This is a great restaurant for all occasions, friends family etc. Overall a 10/10 experience.

I visited chilli bar and kitchen on the 9th of march for the first time and had a lovely meal with my family. The food was great and service was excellent and will definitely be returning again.

Really poor customer service and attitude after I slipped on a washed floor with no sign to say so. Terrible attitude from the manager who pushed my friend. Later one of their staff threw a punch after we started to call the police. I shall never return and I'd suggest you think twice about visiting.

If it wasn't for the takeaway part it would be a 5 star review as the food and service were spot on. However, having heard how nice it was we ordered a lot more than we could eat so we could sample more dishes. The remainders we asked to be boxed up to take away - Including one full untouched main lamb dish. Having paid £240 for 4 adults the bag of takeaway arrived. Either the staff were hungry or half the food was binned, but we got 3 (very) partially filled boxes. The lamb main was half a box - Where had the rest gone? When queried the waiter said he'd check and let me know. He came back and said "The chef removed the cauliflower and that's why it's smaller". Sounds reasonable until you consider the expensive lamb main had NO cauliflower in it. I didn't even bother asking about the rest, and just paid and left. I don't know who, how or why all the food was missing, but it was paid for and should have been there to take away after this request was specifically made before the table was cleared. Maybe the chef was hungry? Either way, it spoiled the otherwise lovely experience.

Staff struggled to cope with the number of Diners, but staff are expensive and very hard to find good ones.

Where to begin! Service, ambiance and food! Everything was so perfect. Just came for the first time and I’m annoyed we haven’t been sooner. Definitely recommend it. The vindaloo was the perfect amount of spicy that built over time. Can’t wait to go back and try other things!!

Fantastic atmosphere, fantastic staff and finally fantastic food. Nothing is too much trouble for the friendly helpful staff. Food is delicious and the surroundings are first class. Very varied and authentic menu to suit everyone.

Not impressed. Ordered Chicken Tikka Shaslik. It didn’t come with a sauce which it should. When I asked for sauce I got some terrible red ketchupy sauce. The raita was not on the menu, but what I got was not a good raita. The pilau rice wasn’t yellow. It usually is. I’m not sure if it was pilau.

One of the best restaurants around the Heartfordshire, our clubs members had a meeting , all are happy about their services and warm food.

Food was good and quick. Staff seem to run off when I tried to ask a question. Air con was a little chilly.

The mangollorean koreigassi chicken is the quite possibly the best curry I ever had.

Very good food and really friendly staff. Visited again recently. Still great food. It's a bit more pricey than a regular Indian place, but then it's a more upmarket setting and the food is worth it.

Excellent place. Good menu and everything we tried was very good. It was a busy Saturday evening and even though we hadn't booked we were able to get a table without a long wait (a few minutes but totally fine). Service was excellent. Food was excellent. Everything was reasonably priced. Would recommend to anyone who likes traditional curry.

Staff were excellent and friendly. Decour good. Food good, but loses a star as ordered a spicy dish, but got a dish on which was as spicy as a korma. Tasted OK though and my wife's food was excellent.

Food lacks true Indian flavours and spices. Very very bland.. I am not so picky with food but I had a hard time liking any of the things i ordered.

I honestly can't praise this restaurant enough. We discovered it by accident - we live in Cardiff, my daughter is at university in nearby Hatfield, we were visiting, we were hungry. Into St Albans we went and found the Chilli Bar. Every time we go back to the area, we make a point of heading here. True, their prices do seem to have gone up recently, but that's the case everywhere at the moment. Here's to the next time!

Had a couple of take-aways from here and look forward to dining in soon as the restaurant has a good atmosphere when I pick-up. Ordered off the specials each time and not been disappointed. Tasty, spicy with good quality ingredients.

A very excellent curry and friendly helpful staff. All food kept warm on the table with candle pot warmers. Large selection of curries. Clean. Pricing is average, not overly expensive but not cheap. Would go many times more!

Absolutely class dinner Knew it was going to be good when the sauces arrived with the popadoms & the tamarind sauce had a taste of ginger to it. Onion bhajis cooked to perfection. My chicken Madras flavoured beautifully with bay leaves & the sauce rich & flavoursome giving the impression the sauce had been cooked down for a while. Nan bread warm, soft & slight crunch on the outside perfect! I’m from Leeds & Mcr so know my curries this was up there with the best

Probably the best Indian restaurant in St Albans. Food is really tasty and fresh, and the service is very friendly although perhaps a little too casual. Recommend if you want a nice curry in a good atmosphere.
