Kimaya Noodle & Sushi Bar in St Albans

This is a really underrated place to eat at. I always go for lunch (never do takeaway) every once in a while. I can vouch for the freshness, quality and portions. I really enjoy trying different meals and I always end up very impressed. Staff is nice and food is prepared on spot so waiting time is reasonable and worth the wait. I recommend this place for lunch. The lunch special deal is affordable and tasty.

Ordered delivery via deliveroo. Soba noodle and Pad Thai too too too salty. Sushi doesn't taste fresh. Soy source awful. If you have to eat their sushi, use your own soy source.

Squid had a burnt old oil taste. Tempura batter was not tempura. More like a standard fish and chips batter and not served with tempura sauce but standard soy sauce. Salmon sashimi was still frozen and other fish sashimi was not nice or fresh tasting. The katsu curry tasted more like gravy. Will not be ordering again.

I done the order take way food Sushi Plates it was disaster 😩. It didn't feel like and tasty like a nice and fresh food and it was from the supermarket package. The fish and salmon smell very bad.The rice was very bad tasty I throw straight away in the bin

Not enough green veggies in the Thai Red curry. Not enough veggies and chicken in the Thai green curry. Otherwise lovely.

Yesterday I ordered lunch via Deliveroo which arrived hot and in the time frame however thats all the was good, the freshness and quality of food was terrible. Ive never experienced hard chewy rice on sushi rolls before, was like chewing gum texture. The Yakitori chicken was also hard and stringy texture which I can confidently can say from eating alot of Japanese food this food has been sitting around for a while. I called the restuarant and owner didnt accept my concerns about the food and said it was freshly made (clearly not!) and said to raise with Deliveroo however Deliveroo dont look after customer disputes for this restuarant. I would not recommend this restuarant!

Ok waited an hour for tiny, expensive sushi. One small prawn temaki roll and tuna sashimi that I can't eat - it doesn't taste right. Disappointed and wouldn't return based on this experience, expensive and now I'm hungry!

A great place to stop for fried noodle dishes before going to the cinema. Definitely on my list to return to.

Prawn toast was only 3 small pieces. Salt and Pepper Squid starter was 4 very small thumb size pieces. Mains were Ok. I won’t be ordering again.

I love this place so much. I needed gluten free so went pad thai & it was so so good. Probably best pad thai I have had ever. The sushi was fairly adventurous - Was fresh and yum

Used to be my favourite St Albans restaurant but went back recently and was just dreadful. Sushi hand roll was dry and the seaweed weirdly chewy. Small portions. Felt rubbish value even with 30% off on a Monday. The place was completely empty which should have been a clue. Absolutely gutted.

Sushi was great. The vegetable pad Thai was stodgy, bland and inedible. I'm a regular customer and, on my recommendation suggested Kimaya. The other person had the Pad Thai and it was very disappointing

THE WORST FOOD IVE EVER HAD IN MY LIFE.

Really poor taste - ordered crispy chicken pad Thai- no greens or nuts as advertised- it was just sweet. Took a few bites and binned the rest. Will not return.

Ordered spicy Singapore noodles, but there were no spices what so ever, just a few red chillies maybe it’s their style I was disappointed but it was edible, however the prawn toast was a joke 3 tiny pieces of toast for £5.99. Nope won’t be back.

The sushi wasn’t great to be honest. It was mostly just ok. The tempura prawns were a bit chewy. One piece was not ok at all - the sea bass sashimi - it stank very fishy…

We have ordered from Kimaya several times, always excellent food, piping hot and carefully packaged. Another great meal!

Rice undercooked. Sushi had slid to one side of the container and looked awful. Hand rolls with virtually no rice, made poorly with the filling just left on top and a sagging empty folded sheet of seaweed. Would not use this business again. Truly awful quality and presentation.

As always really nice food but the last two deliveries have taken two hours which is at best an hour too long to wait. I won’t be ordering with delivery when I’m hungry again!

Really surprised by some reviews. I love this place (especially stheir sushi and curries) and can't wait for it to reopen.

Very good food but not much of it. We had a prawn temaki which was 2 tempura prawns a slither of cucumber, Tea spoon of rice and some sauce which was £8.95… it tasted great though!

It was late but to be fair only a few min and the weather is awful! The duck noodles are so totally amazing. The prawn crackers the best. The chilli beef was very very hot!!

Good sushi and the sashimi was very tasty. Well packaged and came with chopsticks, wasabi, ginger and soy sauce.

My favourite place to get food in St.Albans. The masamun curry is delish and the starters are all super yummy.

Sushi was small and poor quality. The egg fried rice was greasy and quite obviously warmed up in the microwave from a previously cooked batch. It is the first and last time we will be ordering from here.

The food was very fresh, hot and delivered early. Unusually, the Yaki Udon was a tiny bit on the greasy side. In any case, it was still just as tasty. We will certainly order again.

Food arrived late. Received update via Just Eat at original delivery time to say there was an unexpected delay and a new eta was given. Ordered at 7.30pm and food delivered after 9pm. Driver called when close by to let us know but unfortunately food delivered too late to enjoy eating.

Our seafood and chicken ramen were very tasty and clearly used very fresh, quality ingredients - portions were big too, could have fed another 2 people!

In a conscious effort to support local independent businesses, I have tried takeaway from Kimaya 3 times. Each time has been a different dish and each time has been progressively worse. Any restaurant that has this many dishes of varying cuisines on their menu simply cannot make anything well. I should have expected this to be honest. My last dish (and last attempt to order from Kimaya) was so bad that it sadly went straight into the bin. The dish lacked any of the vegetables listed in the description on the menu and tasted worse than a jar of ready made sauce you can pick up from the supermarket, which is very disappointing.

Awesome food in best kept secret restaurant in St Albans. Highly recommend this place, excellent sushi at great price!

Arrived on time. However the overall quality of the food was low, especially for the price. Can find better quality and value elsewhere locally.

I ordered while I was super hungry as everything else was pretty much close around my town. On the good side - you're hungry, you get sorted. On the bad side - if you are respecting your taste buds, stomach and so on...i wouldn't recommend it. By the way, I did not order just one dish - I had 4 stuff ordered so in case something went bad, I could have an alternative. But all failed. At least I am not hungry anymore. Will see tomorrow how I ll feel. :-P

The cost of the food does not reflect the quality. They used to be really good however have recently started to slip. Their food quality is inconsistent. They have flavoursome food however don't know how to cook meat properly. They ask a lot of money for the food they serve.

The food didnt taste like japanese food at all. More like a generic chinese approxiamation of japanese food. Youre probably better going to asian chains. The price was premium but the food was low quality.

Very disappointed tonight, the roll was incredibly bland. No flavour at all. Hopefully next time the food is better.

Sadly I wouldn’t order again their signature noodles were clumped together and unappealing with large chunks of meat that had not been well cut which really put me off. Disappointed as I really wanted to enjoy this. Gyoza were fine, squid probably didn’t travel well but wasn’t at all crispy.

Poor poor chef answers the phone doesn’t understand English takes my card details wrong then someone called Ronnie calls back saying card machine gone wrong etc etc not your card just seemed all a little dogey to me. Avoid.

Came by today at 1pm, you were closed, my daughter wasn't happy.

So, I use to go to this restaurant since it opened, but since Covid came and it was closed I decided I will go the second it opens. I went in and they said it is only take away, considering that the restrictions are not anymore in place any all the other restaurants are open. Anyway. I order 2 seafoods ramen and when I got home it looked completely different from what it used to look like. It had sour cream in and made it disgusting. I tried it anyway, but it was awful and decided to trow it away. I spend 30£ on nothing. It was horrible and both me and my partner had to went to the doctor the following day as we experienced high stomach pain. I won’t go there anymore and I do recommend you not to go there. Horrible experience.

So expensive for what it is, really need to reduce their prices as you're paying restaurant prices for takeaway quality food. Won't order again because of this. Lots of cheaper competition.
