I stopped at Warwick Services (Southbound) on my way down to London. The first port of call for anyone stopping at a Motorway services must be the toilet, and I was glad to find these airy, spacious, light and clean. I was disappointed however to see one of those stupid, misguided "inclusive" signs on the disabled toilet door. This seems to be a 'Welcome Break' back-patting measure, as I seem to remember their services at South Mimms had an equally misguided sign. How inclusive can one be being, when you designate an entire space for people whose idea of inclusivity may well be using the facilities of their preferred gender? I understand toilets designated for the disabled, as this incorporates accessibility issues, but someone's idea of gender should not render them consigned to a specific area, surely? Still, Welcome Break have put up a sign, and so they will be patting themselves on the back in their Diversity and Equality department, whilst someone claims a £50k+ salary for this ludicrous idea. Anyway, away from toilets (in most senses) and the next thing I saw was a KFC. Standard services issue there - nothing out the ordinary. Next up was the pretentiously named 'Pret a Manger', along with a place that abandoned any sense of pretention years ago - Burger King. There was a Subway, which is where I decided to get something to eat, and I was impressed with the staff. They were lovely. The food was your standard Subway fare - no complaints from me. There was a massive Starbucks, as well as a surely superfluous Subway drive-thru outside. I'll never understand that. There was a Krispy Kreme, for people who like sickly doughnuts, and there was your smattering of shops, including WH Smith and a Waitrose, though the latter is, at time of writing, currently undergoing renovation and closed. There is also one of those weird arcade Game Zone places for people with severe gambling addictions. These places surely can't be long for this world. Im delighted to say that there is a Postbox on site. Just inside the main doors. One of the newer, large plastic ones. I was very pleased to see this. The car park is ample, though the spaces are tight if you drive a large car. All in all, and self-congratulatory toilets aside, this is a good service station.

Visited James Martin Grill for a family birthday meal. Visited here a few years ago and it was awful so vowed never to return, but came back to give it another go since it has James Martin's name attached and he is our favourite TV chef. The evening started off terribly, with a miserable dark haird waitress who "greeted" us telling us abruptly to move outside because we were "in the way". However, there was no one in the entrance to greet us, and no sign to say "please wait here", so naturally you would enter the restaurant you have booked and expect a warm welcome. This isn't what we got and it set a very bad tone for the rest of the evening. Throughout the remainder of the night we had multiple waiters serving us, and no one looking after our table. They knew we were celebrating a birthday, but this was not acknowledged until right at the end after we had ordered desserts, when an additional dessert (so I now had 2 desserts) came out saying 'happy birthday'. This was very tokensitic, given we had already ordered our desserts and did not need an additional, and no effort had been made prior to this. There was no ambience, with no background music and the place felt rather echoey. None of the other customers appeared to be smiling, and none of the staff were smiling or making any effort with any of the tables. They all seemed to be stressed and rushing round, with food being dropped on the floor at one point. The food on the other hand was lovely, and we have no complaints of the food. We described it afterwards as "nice pub food". Definitely not worth the inflated prices you would expect in a luxury restaurant, especially with the awful service to go with it. Given this is marketed and priced as a luxury restaurant by a celebrity chef, this is not the service or experience one should be receiving. The bill came to around £500 for 4 people. We should have known better, as we know several others who visited and had a negative experience and did not recommend. I think they must rely on tourists who don't read reviews or come back - but it's a shame because locals will not be returning.

The restaurant has no refinement, plain tables and the napkins are actually cocktail serviettes so too small. Staff are young and inexperienced. More of a cafe than a restaurant. First course was Thai Fishcakes that had been fried from frozen, not great but edible. They seem to be more worried about presentation by placing food on bits of wood than actually the quality. The menu was basic and many things were off. My steak choice was not available and I was told there was one sirloin left. I then heard a server tell my server they had run out. The steak did turn up however but it was definitely not 8 oz more like 6 oz and probably what they serve with a mixed grill. To be totally honest the food was cooked to perfection but the steak was totally tasteless and arrived on a cold plate. I doubt if I have ever had a better Medium Rare cooked steak anywhere but if the person cooking it has poor quality to start with, you can't make a silk purse out of a Sows ear. I don't think £16.50 for a 6 ounce tasteless piece of protein is good value. I am sure this place has potential but it needs some more experience with more focus on choice and quality and less on serving things in wire baskets and on bits of wood. I would have to read an awful lot of good reviews to ever return.

We were a bit concerned about some of the reviews of this bar but we need not have worried. We visited early in the evening for a drink before dinner. We had two small bottles of prosecco which cost £15.60 and we were pleased that the staff were so meticulous about cleaning the glasses.

Whilst queuing to place my order I was watching a female member of staff re stocking the cakes. She had gloves on and picked up maple and pecan swirls to put in the display, then without changing gloves picked up cinnamon swirls and put them in the display. I myself have a nut allergy and the cross contamination that may have happened from this worker not changing gloves between handling an item with nuts and ons without has ensured I will not be ordering any sweet treats from Starbucks in the future.

Chole who served us was very rude and unprofessional made coffee when told it was cold took it off us remade but was still not as hot as usual. Once we moved she started talking to others behind counter about us. Also not always able to get seat as far to many in there on lap tops taking up tables and when there is a free table it full of used cups. Whilst staff stand around doing nothing waiting for others to be disapointed
