The best restaurants in Winchester South East

Our large family of 18 had a lovely Sunday lunch at the Hunter’s Inn today. We preordered via email and the correct food was all brought out promptly and hot. The portions were generous. Staff were extremely attentive and friendly. The menu is varied (even on a Sunday) and very good value and we will definitely be returning. Handy to have the large garden and play areas to keep the kids entertained too.

Please rethink. We are here during half term. Busy? No. One other table only yet service took too long. The higher prices don’t match the quality of the bland food. Everything we had was dry and chewy.. we did complain and got one meal refunded as it was pork belly with no pork! The kids meals were ok to be fair but the main menu was awful, pizza was bought in and dry, ham crumbled upon touch. The greens with the mains were undercooked and spikey. The menus were laminated plastic like a cafe which doesn’t match the £29 price tag for some meals. No music, weird atmosphere. Breakfast was ok, basic and warm but left a lot to be desired sadly

Bit boring. Ok burger, nothing special, It feels like a helium balloon with half the air missing. You think it must have been quite impressive at some point, but not when I was there.... Also when the restaurant has the word friendly and Phil in the title, I dont expect to meet a guy called Phil but anticipate the staff would be a bit more lively.... They were not..... On a scale of dead to TGI Fridays they were a 3......

I went to Costa on Sunday 2nd February. I was served by middle aged lady. I did not feel welcome there. I went there with my family and dogs, and I think she was not very happy about that even though this place is “dog friendly” . She would not bring me drinks because she said she is on her own but there were other staff there. When I apologised and explained I am deaf she would not make an effort to face me, I received a cold shoulder. Also, my husband's hot chocolate was half full. One of my dog barked and we were asked to leave. The other one is my hearing dog. On top of that I paid for staying in and she made drinks in plastic cups, so she knew before serving us that she will ask us to leave. Very unfriendly atmosphere. I normally go to Starbucks as stuff is lovely there but they were closed due to renovation. I will never visit this place again. What a big disappointment.

Nice venue, very friendly staff, great coffee and smoothies and lush food. My girlfriend and I were very happy customers. Highly recommended! We're definitely going back. Only note is that it gets very busy and you cannot book a table. They do however, offer a text back if you join a virtual queue. This works perfectly and gives you time for a wonder around BW.

Popped in with family for a quick pit stop whilst shopping. Staff gossiping behind the counter with zero attention paid towards customers. Almost appeared to be an inconvenience to their regular catch up. When served, the coffee was cold. A clean table was non existent with the gossiping staff oblivious to the fact that every table was piled high with cups, saucers and other debris. With plenty of choices in the area, go anywhere but here…

Lovely fish and chips, phoned ahead and asked for skinless and it was no trouble. Nice light batter and fresh fish. Chips were great too. Lovely.

This was a favourite spot for us for breakfast but we arrived today to find it has been refurbished. It is now half the size, the children’s play area has gone and worst of all the menu has been reduced so there were no cooked breakfasts! We ended up going to Garsons across the road. Such a shame as it used to be lovely!

Most delicious chips, fish cake and mushy peas I’ve had for some time. Piping hot, crispy, freshly cooked. Simple, basic premises but friendly service and most importantly top class chips and food.

I love this place. Nice people, great range of produce. Dry goods, and fresh produce, an excellent deli. Good atmosphere and charming. Polite too.

The staff are amazingly genuine and show care for their customers and the food is always served incredibly quickly. I went here last night and after giving a small tip, they responded by offering me a free drink and made sure to stuff more chips and cheese into my order. Will always come back

Until lockdown we'd enjoy a lovely coffee 'n cake whilst meeting for our lovely knitting group Staff there are so helpful & their cakes are scrumptious ! Look forward to getting together again !

Excellent haddock and chips perfectly cooked. Fresh and great batter with lovely fish. As end of day given pro bono peas and curry sauce all also good

I was a bit concerned when reading reviews but was unexpectedly surprised with the great service and good food. I ordered a starter and a mixed grill and everything was cooked perfectly. Would recommend this if staying in the premier inn hotel (location of restaurant)
