My husband is coeliac so availability of gluten free food is important to us. They have a dedicated gluten free frier so they do ask that you phone ahead and place your order so they can turn it on and cook it for you. If you just want chips they all the chips are gluten free and you can just turn up. We have had some delicious take aways from here and most importantly they have never made my husband ill so I would trust them to be doing gluten free safely. Definitely recommend, especially if you need gluten free fish and chips

We love this, our local chippy. We’re so lucky to have them on our doorstep and the staff are absolutely amazing. They work so hard and are the friendliest you could find. A busy night tonight, so clearly others are cottoning on too! The food’s lovely, great veggie or gluten free options and it’s always fresh. We tend to order for collection and always recognise us, by name, which makes us smile. Honestly, we love treating ourselves to a chippy tea now. Thank you team for always making it a pleasure, even when you must be roasting!

This is the closest fish and chip shop to our house that does gluten free fish and chips that are safe for coeliacs, using separate fryers. We have been here before and it's been ok but we found the portion a little small but on our last visit the portion sizes were so much better, lovely big fish and also lots of extras that can be made gluten free such as pineapple fritters that you don't often get. I would really recommend it. Gluten free chips are available all the time but if you want anything else gluten free they recommend phoning ahead so they can turn on the gluten free fryer and have it ready for when you get there.

Even though i was first in the shop at opening i was completely ignored in favour of an obvious local who came in after me who had pre ordered. Nearly 6 minutes later i was served only to be told i would have to wait another 6 minutes to cook the fish even though there were 3 portions already done. They too were for pre orders. i didnt have time to wait any longer and said so only to be told "well next time pre order". Thats great, but i was a visitor and obviously not important as a passing customer. I understand locals are regular business but if my order had been taken when i got to the counter before the local came in it would have been cooking while the pre order was dealt with. I felt invisible, awkward and ignored stood there while they chatted. However i am glad for the owner that the business is obviously doing so well they have no need to cater for people like me who try to support small businesses. Next time i wont bother.

The best fish chips I have had in a while batter was lovely and crispy on the fish and the chips friedly staff was nice good portion to for the price will definitely be coming here again

Popped in here for a quick dinner, stayed down the road at CAMC Rookesbury park, two lovely ladies cooking and serving, very friendly and efficient, lots of locals purchasing fish n chips, yes we would come back very happy 😀 - not an oil tanker in sight ! 😂 ( not greasy at all) just lovely fish n chips

I just Can’t understand why so many COMPLAIN about this place on here when every time I go here the food is pretty decent as on this visit.. I tell you that there is worst places to eat & I always order a Jumbo Sausage/Chips & Curry Sauce.. The lady is always polite & pretty decent prices what else could you ask for it’s a Fish & Chip Shop not a 5 Star Restaurant..

Had chips from here a few times over the lockdown and tier system. Not bad chips, had a lot worse and at least this place is open and providing a service. Phoned through and always ready on time. Good social distancing arrangements.

The worst fish and chips ever had I've seen less oil in a oil tanker.could not separate the fish from the paper completely stuck to the chips which were smothered in cooking oil.not recommended. Go hungry instead.

We were passing through Wickham on the way home from walking the dog and thought we would try this chip shop, I am very glad we did! The staff were very friendly and helpful and the food was really fresh and tasty. I had the mini fish and chips and it was just enough for me. The chips were even wrapped in newspaper like the old days! We will be back for sure.

I phoned this chippy to find out when it closed and was told 8.30pm which was fine. To avoid being served chips which had been hanging around being kept warm I got there at 8 and ordered two portions of chips. They were truly dreadful - small, flaccid, greasy, tasted awful and at £2.40 a portion way overpriced. Stone me, if a chippy is incapable of cooking decent chips it has no right to be in business.

I visited Wickham Fisheries on Thursday 1 August 2019 at 8.20pm, a weekday during the school holidays. I was with a large group; 27 children and 7 adults. This was my first visit. I used Google Maps to find the chip shop, which was easy and led me straight to the right place. I parked in the car park right outside, which had plenty of spaces available. As we were a large group we phoned the order ahead and arrived to pick up 20 minutes later. The ladies were incredibly friendly and helpful, everything was freshly cooked and the order absolutely spot on, which is challenging with 34 meals!

Today we thought we would have a medium fish and chips, though it was cooked well, it certainly was not a medium portion, we found when we got home. The fish was so small that it was gone in 3 bites and although it said on their board enough for 1/2 people it was hardly enough for one person. Unless of course that person was elderly or a kid and not have much of an appetite. The chips which were suppose to be medium, they were not medium more a case of a small portion, there was at most about 2 handfuls worth of chips, certainly not worth the money that was paid for it. Won't be buying fish and chips there again!

Great food. Fresh fish. Chips superb. Most of all, staff were fantastic - hayley and iona are true professionals. We will be back......!

The food has much improved by the cooking of the fish to order which does mean there is 5-10min wait. But unfortunately the use of plastic to place the food on can make the fish lose its chrisp and the newspaper became damp causing the fish to stick to it. I will return as it is close to home but just one or two slight changes could improve the quality of the food.

Purchased a family sized portion of chips which can only be described as medium at best for £4.60. Poorly wrapped and when asked for a carrier bag the staff informed me that it was now the law to charge for this. After checking this seems factually incorrect unless they have another 245 staff hidden away somewhere. Chips were okay but a large amount of very dark chips scattered in with the better ones.

I have passed this shop for years and it always looked like a jumble sale and Passing was the best thing to do. However I heard that it had changed hands and decided to giv it a try. I must say that the new owners have cleaned and tidied up the shop and are trying very hard. The fish and chips are NOW very good and it saves me driving to Purbrook just for fish and chips.. Only comment is my wife and i thought that the chips could be cooked a little longer, they looked pale and not just browned. But will definitley return

We are so disappointed that our local fish and chip shop is so awful. Rude lady at the desk who doesn't listen to your full order. Food sloppy, greasy and VERY small portions. They don't take card at all. We have to drive to Pauls Plaice in Bishops Waltham whenever we fancy fish and chips! Much better.

I had lunch, and while the portions are smaller than at some fish and chip shops, that suited me. The serving lady is typically Wickham unfriendly (but courteous) towards strangers, the food was freshly cooked and very good.

Only ordered sausages. Taste ok but not as good as had at the weekend at another local place. But they were some of the best ever had

2 cod and 1 chips, perfect sized portion for us. No complaints at all and served by very friendly staff. Thank you.

In dire need of food and in Wickham, so decided to go to the chippy after seeing how good the fish and chips looked that the in laws had had a week or so before from this establishment. After a mix up with the order and them running out of pea fritters, we took delivery of our food and sped off home to devour our meal. Chips were poor, battered sausage was ok and the Yorkshire fish cake (a first for me) was ok but really quite greasy. Overall, not a great experience.

We’ve only been once and won’t be going back. As a group we had haddock and chips, cod and chips, and battered sausage and chips. We all commented that the chips tasted old, like they’d been hanging around along time - this was 8.00 on a Friday. Everything was much greasier than other chip shops we’ve been to. Such a shame.

I had fish chips kids had sausage and chips and was nicest I have had for a while staff are really friendly looks like it's had a new makeover all food was freshly cooked

This Fish and Chip shop looks more like a second hand book shop. The food was not great also they did not put any salt and vinegar on my food (after I asked for plenty) Needs a refit

A tatty looking place. The entrance area is full of old books sold for charity I believe. It looks unkempt and needs a good scrub. The food is not inspiring and not very good quality. I do not intend visiting there again.

I visit the chip shop regularly and have always been pleased with the excellent service given. Service with a smile is always guaranteed and I have always been pleased with the product. I would definitely recommended to a friend.

We have been coming to this fish and chip shop for years now and they do lovely fish and chips. Portions are good sizes to as we are a family of 4 and we can buy one large and one small and there is still some left over my kids love going there as my kids l9ve going in and having a chat with the owner very friendly and cheap for fish and chip shop would recommend

My family have been coming to this chippy for years, we always get great service and great food. The fish and chips are fabulous and everything else is just as good. We return here time and time again and we've yet to find anywhere better. Highly recommend Wickham Fisheries, try them, you won't be disappointed.

Several times I've tried here for a quick fix and every time it is not good . Large chips at £3.00 not the greatest portion and half of them are flat and end up in the bin. It's not rocket science. I wish someone would open up a new chip shop would do well.

Relatively quick service, tasty food but put on your own salt and vinegar as they tend to over do it! Otherwise, great place!

Absolutely disgusting ....threw straight in the bin ...fish was mashed muck nothing resembling fish what so ever, chips left overs from lunch . Appalled!

I wish we had looked at the trip advisor reviews before giving this one a try.Everything was dripping with grease and all sloppy. At least a third of the chips on my plate were green/black and the fish was full of bones. I threw mine in the bin and had a bowl of cereal instead. My children ate their chips, ketchup covers up the taste of anything!Nothing would tempt me to go here again.

I am sad to say that our experience of this chippy was not good. The place looks dirty. The woman serving looked grubby and was less than friendly. The chips when they were scooped out of the warmer looked grey, like they had been there for a while. We ended up cancelling our order. It was all very off putting sadly

It's really hard to believe that anyone can get fish and chips so terribly wrong. The fish is just wrong and the chips generally chewy. We have given them a couple of chances while we have lived in Wickham and they have been equally bad both times. Far better to visit Bishops Waltham or Fareham for edible food.

As a local I'd love this place to be good or at least average but in over 30 years it's never changed. Sporadic visits over the years with a hope of improvement has sadly never materialised so a trip to either Bishops Waltham or Fareham is necessary to have a decent meal. The chips are just about bearable but there's no consistency and the fish has always been bad, my partner braved it recently & the fish was dripping in fat to the point he couldn't stomach it. I think this place has survived purely on a captive audience and nothing more but that's no excuse for such poor quality food.

The food was nice and hot freshly cooked and very tasty. The batter was just the right thickness and the fish was a good size.

I bought my family here for a little treat had asked around and heard many comments that this is one of the best chip shops around. I thought we would try it out and compare. They were not wrong the food smells lovely, tastes nice and the staff are friendly and courteous ... I would definitely visit again if I am In the areaThank you so much for lovely food and a good friendly chat

Amazing food amazing service and I can't wait to visit again soon... We ordered 2 small battered sausage and chips, large cod and chips, 4 fish cakes, family chips and 2 portions of onion rings ... Excellent value for money

Me and my family were passing through the area on vacation and thoroughly enjoyed our food, so much choice and nothing is too much trouble. The staff are brilliant an friendly and would reccomend this restaurant to anyone

I was extremely satisfied when visiting this small traditional chip shop which is ideally situated in lovely village atmosphere, i felt the staff were amazing and chatty. The food was a good standard as well, overall a great experience and would highly recommend!

We visit this place infrequently and always hope to see some improvement. Sadly, it seems like all stock is cooked well in advance and then simply kept warm for the rest of the day in the glass cabinet above the fryer (which is always piled high). As a result, the batter is usually dark and pretty hard, and the fish is best avoided. Usually by early evening it's overcooked and bone dry, and tonight I had to pull it apart and remove around a dozen large bones out of it before I could eat it. Chips are reasonable but not the best. Sausages are OK. We haven't dared try anything else.It's a real shame because we've used places in the past which cooked to order. Yes you had to wait an additional 5 minutes, but the food was always piping hot and cooked to perfection, the fish moist and flaky and the batter golden, light and crispy. This place could make a killing if it was overhauled and the quality improved, but until this happens I think we'll be giving it a miss.

Fish - old.Batter - old.Chips - guess what?The staff didn't seem to want to be there. The place seems grubby and its reputation locally is deservedly poor.
