Paul's Plaice in Winchester

Just paid this well lit, clean looking atmosphere of a chip shop only to feel disappointed by the amount of chips for the price of £3.95.!!! However,almost redeemed by the chips themselves as they are very well cooked.

Very disappointed. Your curry sauce! The size of the tube. Paid £1.55 didn't even cover my chips.

Lovely food, but I'm unsure of the pre ordering aspect. It's all very random, you pick a time, but absolutely no guarantee food will be ready anywhere near this time. I waited 15 minutes after my order was supposed to be ready last night. Good solid fish and chips, service needs sharpening up

Once or twice a month I order to collect from Paul’s Plaice and it’s always superb. Just had haddock and chips today and it was the best fish and chips I’ve ever had. Crispy fluffy chips, light crispy batter on perfectly cooked fish. Highly recommend

A brilliant fish and chip shop. It's good, and people know it, so there is high demand. Expect a short queue on Fridays and Saturdays, but they have a slick and fast production line, fish are cooked to order and the constant chip cooking means you will always leave with hot freshly cooked food. Even when there is a queue there is fast turn around.

Always polite and friendly. Food is good to perfection. Plenty of chips. Excellent service. Don’t understand negative reviews - I’ve been using this shop for 13 years and not once have I had an issue. Perfect food, always hot and freshly done. I’ve nothing negative to say at all. The queues speak for themselves - a quiet fish and chip shop is quiet for a reason. 100% recommend

No better chippy! When we moved into the area 12 years ago there were plenty of reasons why. Village life, great schools, farms and livestock, beauitful walks....making it feel like a wee Oasis. Then, just to top it off we quickly found Pauls Plaice - the best chippy this side of the black stump. As a fish and chip lover this place is awesome. Great food, and really lovely staff - we are lucky to have them on our doorstep! Keep it up folks 👏

Great fish and chips, easy online ordering service for collection. Covid safe. Hard working, friendly team. Updated to add....still our favourite chippy for a delicious, quick and easy meal. Lunch or dinner, being able to pre order, means less of a queue on arrival for collection. With easy parking right behind the shop, it's a no brainer for my busy family when we want to grab a chippy tea. 😊💜

The whole team here are so friendly and helpful it’s always great to see them. Not only that but the food is so brilliant and freshly cooked. No wonder they have recently won best fish and chip shop in Hampshire. Unbelievable ability to serve so many people so efficiently. Brilliant job guys.

Reading a recent review giving Paul’s Plaice a one star rating, I wanted to say we have been going here for 9 years and in that time the food and the service have been excellent. Problems with a fryer going down cannot be helped. We place our order online and pay for it before collecting it which is why when there is such a problem the customer takes priority I presume. People are so quick to complain these days and don’t look at the full picture. Anyone reading this review before visiting this chip shop, then trust me you will not be disappointed. We would drive along way to buy fish and chips from Paul’s Plaice, and if there was a problem we certainly would not judge and rush to give them a one star rating. I would give a 10 star ⭐️ if I could !!

Me and my husband have just moved to the area and are very pleased this is our local chippy! We had fish, battered burger, chips, pea fritter, pickled egg and curry sauce. All very tasty and hot, good speedy service and reasonably priced. Thanks!

Used to love this place but having stood in a queue outside for 15 minutes with people that have been waiting even longer to be told that a large online order has come in and that they won't be serving anyone else. Very disappointed

Haddock and chips, very tasty, but only large fish available which at £8.50 seemed a bit pricey.

Decent quality and good value . Lunchtime specials for £6. Good chips . Excellent curry sauce . Battered sausage is per.

Quality fish and chips, first time visit here as we live 20mins away, worthwhile trip and much better than the fish and chips where we live.

This place used to be absolutely wonderful and we have been regular customers for the last 10 years. Unfortunately the last two times we have visited the fish and chips have been extraordinarily greasy to the point we have not been able to eat them. It is so disappointing as the fish is beautiful but even the paper it was wrapped in left a thick white layer of fat on my worktop. What has happened?????

Great food and friendly fast service. Even when it was packed with customers, but be warned, the portions are huge and you end up with a few kilos of left over chips! Not that we were Complaining.

Was recommended a king Rib and that's what we had with chips. The king rib was absolutely amazing. Staff are amazing too, always so friendly.

Great chips but was disappointed to find a lump of battered fish in the packet - when I've been vegetarian for over 30 years it was not a nice surprise. The fish we'd ordered was wrapped separately so I'm not sure where it came from!

A great Fish & Chip shop with friendly staff I ordered Fish & Chips for 16 and it was ready on time to the minute and nicely packed in boxes! They even helped me carry it out to the car! Everyone one was well impressed and all said they would go back there again individually A top drawer Chippy 10/10…….many thanks KP

Best fish and chip for miles around

Went in on my lunchbreak for lunch. The girl behind tge counter gave me dirty looks the moment we made eye contact, she said nothing even though I was waiting to be served. An older gentleman was about to be served before me at which point I left. Ive only ever visited 3 times and each time the staff were rude to me. Facial piercings really shouldnt be worn when working in food anyway. Arent there laws against this? The food might be ok here but I wont visit again due to the rudeness of the staff. The correct way to greet me would've beeb like this "Hello, I'll be with you in just a moment" instead the death stare and complete ignorance!

11/10 Amazing food, generous portions, reasonably priced and the staff were outstanding. Popped in for lunch as I was in the area, I got the Chicken Strips, a cone of chips with salt and vinegar plus a pot of gravy. There were a few customers in but no one had to wait at all really. The food was still hot by the time I got to Otterbourne to eat it! Highly recommended!!

Popped in about 8.45 on Thursday 26th Jan. Absolutely spot on fish and chips, batter was really crispy and thin, fish very flaky and white. Chips were very tasty too. Had a good chat with the fryer, who really knew his stuff. Very clean shop. Would highly recommend to anyone in the area. Well done guys.

Really good chips - not too greasy, but not too dry. Good sized portions. Their lunchtime set meals are good value for money.

We ordered 4 portions of fish and chips and it literally took less than 5 minutes to be ready. That means no unnecessary wait time. The fish and chips is heavenly. Well made. I had salt and vinegar sprinkled on mine. Pleasant staff.

I think this is consistently the best fish and chips ever. The fish is always sweet and juicy and the chips are crisp and never greasy. Great value for money also. Cannot fault plus really easy to pre order online.

Very good. Is it the best fish and chips I have ever had? Maybe. I would have to do a blind taste test with L'Alba D'Oro of Edinburgh to see whether this is the best fish and chips I have ever had. Although considering that they're 440 miles apart I'll probably just call it a draw.

Glad to say the standard is back to excellent. Great to have such good fish and chips just a few miles away. Now they use paper bags the batter and chips stay crisp for a short journey.

I frequent this establishment most Friday evenings of late, and have used Paul's since it opened. Huge portions with excellent chips. The click and collect app is simply brilliant and is easy to use, with only a short wait to wrap your order when you arrive. Its always busy which is testament to its popularity and quality, the staff are efficient and friendly,which must be hard when you are that busy all the time.well done, keep it up.👍

Just had sausage and chips. Lovely chips. The sausage was a little bland in flavour but that's sort of par for the course with chip shop sausage. Friendly staff, clean looking chip shop.

Love the chips from here. But we usually choose the scampi to go with them because the fish is always disappointing...soft and overbatterred. I love cod roe but it is actually unpleasant from here, somehow wet and sloppy. Grandson loves a savaloy and says these have improved lately. Service is very good.
