So fortunate to have such a good Fish & Chip shop in Alresford. Real chips made on the premises. Well cooked fish.

Fish and chips were good but the steak and kidney pie was dried up and burnt inside and extremely soggy pastry. Also contained a huge bit of grizzle. The curry sauce was basically mildly flavoured water. Very disappointed

Absolutely revolting. The chips were like soggy cardboard and the sausage in batter was solid. It all went in the bin. Shall not ever recommend this place and won’t be going back

Great fish and chips and reasonably priced for being in such a tourist town. Particularly like that they include “pensioner” portions for those of us who don’t have huge appetites, and that they indicate how many people their portions of chips might feed. Child/Pensioner cod & chips was £6.90 and more than enough (cod a good hand-size for tallish female). Also all wrapped in paper - not poly/plasticky trays

Unusually tough dry cod. Not sure what went wrong but really didn't enjoy it. I may have been unlucky,but don't think I can take another chance for the money.

Good quality Fish and Chips. Portions are very good as well. Small chips will do a family of 3 and a small cod will feed 2 if any comparison.

Food mostly nice. Depends on when friers were last cleaned out. Couple of the girls really nice but rest don't seem to care wither they are there or not. One of the girls always smiles and greats you.

Ordered fish and chips. Very disappointed as cooked to order. The fish was in soggy limp batter rather than crispy. The chips were also limp. Ivery rarely buy fish and chips and won't repeat the exercise!

Friendly service, good size portions , reasonable price , but batter on fish bit soggy

Brilliant staff who are quick to make, pack and serve the food. The ability to order online and then collect in store has made it feel that as customers we don't have to feel bad about see what we want to order knowing others are waiting to be served. The only area that needs improvement is catering for allergens and intolerances such as wheat and gluten to provide options for those people.

We have ordered fish and chips for dinner. All was solk in oil, also packing paper was sticked on our meal. Certainly I will not order from them next time! They don't make you feel welcome!

Avoid at all costs. Shop smelled like very old burn oil and misery. The staff were so miserable and rude and the smell put me off so badly I didn’t even take my food with me. I paid but if the smell of the shop made me feel sick I wasn’t prepared to risk eating there. Such a shame. I worked there when it first opened many years ago and now it’s awful. I won’t be going back.

We had a lovely fish and chip supper from here. Had to wait a while as it was a busy Friday evening, but well worth the wait. Generous portions and lovely crispy batter.

Unfriendly and zombie like staff are very slow and can't cope when it's busy. You don't feel welcome in any way! Oh, and dare not ask how long for your order, when you've ordered online for a certain time, and you're told a few minutes, which turns into 20 extra wait having your food slammed in front of you and blanked when you say thank you. Oh, when the unwrapping of the portion of chips, there must have been 20 pieces of wrapping paper that most of the chips were stuck to! Unbelievable The lack of competition and take away choices in Arlesford let's the 'don't give a toss attitude' of the owner and the inadequate and clearly unhappy staff to make you feel like not spending your money there, and going the extra few miles out of town, to get polite, efficient, social human beings to serve you with some passion of cooking, sounds much more promising and buying fish and chips that you actually enjoy from the traditional fish and chips take away. I had a bad experience a few years ago as well with very badly cooked and oily food, but obviously, no ones feedback or complaints do any good, or help the establishment to improve, they simply don't care, which is a shame! Maybe selling it to someone who would run it properly would be a better option. I can't see it getting any better or them taking the advice of many unhappy customers. I'm done with supporting this local business, unfortunately.

Great chips and lovely chicken strips highly recommend

Called in for a portion of take away chips on 8/8/23 lunchtime and paid £2-85,to a young lady. Looked a nice size portion,until we opened it.We had six layers of white paper,and less than 20 chips.A complete rip off,we went back to complain,and the place has closed. Will never use them again,and will continue to use Shoal in Winchester,decent size portions,and much better chips. Open the chips before you leave,to avoid being scammed and ripped off

My unfortunate duty is to report a rather disconcerting culinary experience encountered at a local establishment, ostensibly renowned for its rendering of the British classic, fish and chips. This particular Hampshire-based outlet: “Daves fish and chips”, it saddens me to say, represents what could only be deemed the nadir of culinary execution within the genre. In an endeavor to accurately depict the rather dispiriting gustatory tableau, allow me to commence with the elemental critique. The cooking oil, an indispensable factor in the preparation of this traditional fare, appears to have been granted a lifespan well beyond its natural expiry. The lingering patina of obsolescence thus imbued every morsel with a less than appetising oleaginous sheen. The chips, intended to be the hearty companion to the marine main, instead presented themselves in a state of perpetual sogginess. These saturated, limp simulacra of what should have been crispy delights led to an unvarying narrative of dyspeptic experiences following each venture to partake of their offerings. Our persistent returns to the establishment were born not out of masochistic tendencies, but rather an earnest attempt to extend the benefit of doubt, in hope that past experiences were but unfortunate anomalies. Regrettably, such leniency has been consistently met with disappointment. Turning to the matter of service, the dispassion and apathy exuded by the staff has often strayed into the realms of the comedic. On my most recent venture, I was greeted with the astonishing revelation that the establishment had run out of chips—an implausible state of affairs for a 'fish and chip' shop, one would agree. Upon closer inquiry, it was revealed that the absence of the chips was not due to a supply issue, but rather a seemingly prevalent lack of inclination to engage in the cooking process. The surly demeanour of the fry cook, casting disparaging glances from behind his work station, only served to amplify the overall air of displeasure that pervaded the premises. In conclusion, this establishment, which one might have hoped would be a reliable purveyor of such a venerable British dish, unfortunately presents a distinctly disheartening gastronomical panorama, both in terms of the quality of the fare and the distinct lack of service-oriented ethos. One advises to avoid at all costs.

A bit disappointed... Huge portion of chips, which were very tasty, if a little soggy. Sadly the fish was very overcooked and the batter rock hard....

Lovely food, unfortunately the girls serving couldn't work out how much change to give for paper money.

Food isn’t great at all anymore! Use to enjoy but this time and the last haven’t been good, thought would give another go but was even worse then the last time, won’t be returning. Staff are very unenthusiastic as well not great when dealing with members of the public, a smile doesn’t hurt!

Fantastic Fish and Chips . Some of the best chips I have had anywhere. The fish is always superb as well with an impressive menue of alternative items. So something for everyone plus friendly staff!

3.50 for 3 cod "chunks" and chips? More like fish nuggets to me! Trade description! Pathetic! In the photo is the largest of the "chunks"! Dave should be ashamed!

Has improved only issue was when I got home I lost half the child's they were stuck to the paper and was peeling paper of the rest Only wanted a portion of chips but tills down then card machine not working despite signs saying only card payments accepted

Gave all of my friends including myself bad tummies! It’s not the first time it’s left more than one of us feeling horrendous. I suspect the oil isn’t changed regularly. The food is also overly saturated in the stuff! I’d heard rumours about the hygiene but now experienced first hand.

The best. 5 star hygiene. Fair prices, good portions, consistent quality. Just like a proper chippy should be.

You never feel like you are welcome. Your encouraged to order and pay online and having done so then find out this evening you have to pay for a carrier bag. Fair enough but not having any cash on me then I have to carry my order for two back to the car without a carrier bag. Thank goodness it wasn’t an order for ten. I do feel that they should all realise who has supported them during lockdown and now should to be far more customer friendly. I am very reluctant to give them my custom.

Good food and great price, always a huge portion of chips even if you go for small it's enough for 2, the chicken nuggets are 10 times crisper and better than mcdonalds, and still cheaper. Staff are friendly. There is sometimes a wait for orders but worth it for the food.

Decided to have some fish and Chips after packing up the house all day. The fish was white, flaky and delicious, along with the humongous portion of tasty chips. Definitely recommend to everyone.

Really poor service, didn’t have half the menu charged me over £4 for a sausage and cone of chips then rudely demanded I stand outside in the pouring rain while I wait for them to cook. Didn’t bother waiting as I felt the way I was spoken to was unacceptable and made me feel unappreciated as a customer. Tried to call for refund no answer!

Absolutely not acceptable serving food like this absolutely swimming in oil. Tastless and under cooked batter. Overcooked cod roe and lettuce that is clearly off! This is the 3rd time it's been bad and now it's the last! If you as an owner think this is acceptable to sell to people then you need to re-think your business career. Luckily I have chickens that are far less concerned about what they eat, so they got a good meal tonight. The only thing I can say as a positive is your chips are 'ok', when there not stuck to paper with grease as well. I don't know when you opened your chippy and I hope it hasn't always been as bad as this, but something or someone really doesn't care about quality control or have a passion for cooking or makes a conscious effort to sell quality fish and chips rather than food that is only edible for chickens. Shame as your in a great location, but I wouldn't recommend you to anyone with food like this being served.

Ok so this is the 5th time we've bought fish and chips from here and this is the worst it's been. Not that it's been great previously, however this time I need to give the feedback to you as its absolutely disgusting to open a piece of cod and haddock totally swimming in oil. The batter itself was like squeezing a sponge full of more oil. The fish was tasteless and inside of the batter was undercooked. The cod roe was over cooked and dry. My sons chicken burger with lettuce cheese and bacon had off lettuce!

Fantasic system during Lockdown. Order and pay on- line, then collect at time chosen by you!!! Cant be simpler. Fantastic chips and fish and superb mushy peas. Great selection to choose from. Will be ordering next weekend too. 10/10

Absolute waste of money went straight in the bin I've worked all over England and this is possibly the worst chip shop on the earth very disappointed staff don't have a clue what's even happening and certainly don't care about the mess they're serving up will definitely not return would of give less stars if could have even other customers laughed about the state of meal being served

Really tasty chip shop with a great variety of food to choose from. I've been many times and only had 1 or 2 meals not as good normal. It's by far my favourite chip shop in the area.

Lovely local fish and chip shop. Be warned. The chip portions are huge! If like me you aren’t a fan of fish then there’s loads to pick from including platters, salads, pies etc.

Okay if you get in early before the rush

Food was nice enough but a bad experience with the owner left a bad taste in my mouth. If you are scottish or Irish be aware that Dave's fish and chip shop will not accept your sterling currency. Embaress you and insinuate you are using fake currency.. He will blame the bank. Then he blamed fake scottish and Irish notes, (despite the fact there are far more fake english 20s in circulation) strangest part is when he followed me back to the motorhome I had rented and made me feel really uncomfortable. Stopped after he realised I was filming him. Creepy guy.

Lovely friendly staff very nice chippy

I've been going to this chippy on and off for 20 years now. Started going when I was growing up in Alresford and I go back there from time to time when I'm visiting. Cant imagine many people can tell you a place has been consistently good over that long a timespan but it has been. However on the note of consistency I have noticed recently that the portion sizes and the fish quality seem to vary wildly depending on whose working. I do want to note that I have never been disappointed but sometimes I go and remember why I keep coming back year after year and yet at other times I just think of them as a good fish and chip shop. Regardless this is an easy 5/5. My small criticisms a side this is still head and shoulders above the competition.

On Saturday 23/02/19 my family bought lunch here. The portion of the chips was ridiculously large and they tasted nasty and earthy and left a peculiar taste in your mouth! The batter on the fish was soggy as was the battered sausage..Yuk, I would not recommend this place

Arrived just before 9pm on the off chance - even though they were clearing away Dave said he would cook us 2 pieces of fish. The fish was very big and delicious, along with the humongous portion of chips. Fab service and chat. Definitely recommend to everyone.

They have a best variety of food and its also the yummiest. I have never been to a better chip shop, I crave their veggie burgers every day and I'm not even vegetarian! Their partition sizes are amazing value for money! 10/10 recommend!

I was a bit apprehensive about going to Dave's because of the bad reviews but as it turned out, all went well. I was part of a group of around 20 people who suddenly descended on the Chip shop on what for them was probably a quiet Saturday night. One minute there were 2 or 3 people in the sop the next 20. Nothing was ready and we all had different orders. The girls behind the counter swung in to action very professionally. One taking the orders and the other passing them back to Dave. Obviously there was a slight wait but not a long one, everyone had been served within 10 minutes. I had Steak & Kidney pie with my chips, the pie was a standard Pucka so not much to go wrong with that but the chips were perfect and plenty of them as well. I would not hesitate in going back to Dave's next time I am in Alresford.

Nur Take away, keine Tische vorhanden.Sauber und freundliche Bedienung.Große Auswahl verschiedener Gerichte, die frisch und heiß zubereitet werden.Riesige Portionen Fish und Chips, klassisch mit Essig und Salz oder modern mit sehr guter Knoblauchmayonaise. Der Coleslaw ist etwas zu grob geschnitten und etwas zu fett (weniger Mayo bitte), ansonsten aber ok.Auf jeden Fall sehr zu empfehlen, für alle Fish und Chips Liebhaber.Die Preise sind günstig, der Fisch ist knusprig und lecker.
