The fishers pond is now my favorite pub, the view of the pond. Nick our waiter made the experience at the fishers pond a fine dining experience. A true gentleman. You could taste the love in the food knowing it’s not thrown in a microwave. The pork belly was to die for. I asked who cooked our meal and it was Harry John. He deserves head chef as I could not fault a single thing! I’ll definitely be returning for my Sunday roast weekly! Thankyou very much nick and Harry!

Had a lovely brunch today, called in around 1100, it was very quiet and food arrived quickly. Very tasty and good sized portion. Full English priced £11.95 which was a little pricey, drinks were a separate cost. Nice little treat. Lost a star based on cost. Many thanks

Amazing food, amazing staff and amazing atmosphere! The beef bourguignon and tiramisu were to die for. The burger and the latte were also enjoyed. My 4 year old near enough cleared his plate. We didn't catch the lady's name, who served us, but she was lovely and made an effort to talk to my son, which I thought was above and beyond. The views are incredible, just the perfect place to eat really. Highly recommended and will definitely visit again!

"A Culinary Gem at the Pub – Chef Harry Delivers Excellence!" I recently had the pleasure of dining at the fishers pond, and Chef Harry's culinary creations completely blew me away! From the moment I walked in, the warm atmosphere of the pub set the tone for an unforgettable dining experience. But it was Chef Harry's incredible menu that truly made the night. Each dish was crafted with precision and a creative flair that highlighted fresh, local ingredients. The flavors were bold and well-balanced, showcasing Chef Harry's impressive skill and passion for food. Whether it was the perfectly seared steak or the deliciously smoky fish, every bite was a testament to his dedication to excellence. Not only does Chef Harry excel at the technical side of cooking, but his ability to make every meal feel personal and special is truly what sets him apart. You can taste the love and care in each dish. If you're ever at The Fishers Pond, you absolutely have to try Chef Harry's creations. A true talent in the kitchen, he's raised the bar for pub dining, and I can't wait to come back for another round of his culinary masterpieces

Went for Xmas dinner today with my son paid £150 both us for dinner the starter was not that great main meal ok did even say around for the dessert as the Service was shocking we walk out left are drinks and said them keep the desserts definitely not worth the money and will going there again for Xmas Went back there a year later sat 29 March and the food cold paid £80 and taken hour come out this two been here I said to the waitress that the food is cold and she didn’t even apologise and got really sarcastic. When I said the food was cold. I highly recommend not going to this place. I’ve been here twice now and been ripped off. The managers are stuck up their own arses and everyone fix their better than the customers but at the end of the day if you’re paying an £80 or £150 a mill you expect to have good quality good service And I’ve been here twice now I thought I’d give it a go a year later and I am still very disappointed I was just stayed at home and had baked beans on toast. It would’ve been warmer and it would’ve been more satisfying.

We live up the road from the Fishers pond and visited today with our baby and asked for a table, the host then went to the near half empty restaurant space and then came back and said he has lots of bookings coming in(half empty restaurant nearly 2pm…) so he can only put us in the bar area. We sat in the bar corridor, enjoyed the food and a really good glass of Albariño but during our visit one table of 2 arrived and nobody else… we left feeling as though we were put there because we had A BABY. I recommend putting a sign on the front door saying No babies as it’s clear why were we sat in the bar area with a half empty restaurant… Also once the food did arrive there was no check back so we kind of did feel like an inconvenience to them in the end

I don't recall ever having a less-than-good experience of The Fisher's Pond (which in recent years became my local, though I've been coming year on and off for decades). I've probably written a review for it here or elsewhere before, but I feel compelled to write another. The food was nice and reasonable value, and these on their own would warrant a top-marks review, but what marked out our latest visit was the service. The service at the Fisher's Pond is always very good, but on this occasion it was exceptional. The booking experience and arrival/reception experience were excellent, but the in-meal experience was second-to-none. It was better than what you'd get at a restaurant costing more than 10x the price. The food arrived at a reasonable time (not slow but not too quick to be suspicious), and we were attended to throughout the meal by all the staff at just the right frequency. The main staff member dedicated to us was a gentleman called Nick, who was eloquent, thorough, professional, attentive and thoroughly entertaining. What a star. It's people like Nick to make an experience or even a whole day, and the World needs more of them. Thank you.

My friend and I came here today, we walked in and got a table straight away without booking. We ordered from the valentines menu. We ordered our meals at the same time (table service) and my friends meal turned up but not mine. So we left it for a while, then about 5 minutes later mine still wasn’t out so my friend started to eat as she didn’t want hers to go cold. I got the attention of a staff member and she had said she noticed it looked strange so checked and my starter had gone on the mains side. So it would be 1 minute and they are sorting it… unfortunately it was 12 minutes later my food had come out, so nearly 20 minutes after my friend had hers, and had finished. The staff was apologetic about it. For mains I had risotto, and my friend had the Sea bass. My risotto was okay, could have done with a bit of cheese and I think the mushrooms cut instead of whole mushrooms?? They were only buttons but think they would be better in slices or different. The food wasn’t hot, it was just warm but after the whole starters, we just wanted out. For desert, we went for the cheesecake as the lemon tart was out, but we took it home as we had had enough at that point. Drinks were okay, quickly done. The staff were all very polite and kind, just a shame a few bits let them down. I enjoy the menu at the Vintage Inn group so I would return, the setting is lovely, but I’m not sure if I would eat here again or not. Everything tasted great, just a shame about the timings!

Service was slow decided to go elsewhere for dessert.

I visited here last month and was pleased with the meal so came again. We were very disappointed. We were ushered to a nice looking table but several people went out for a smoke leaving the door wide open several times. We moved! My main complaint was my meal, skewered pawns and a side of chips were barely warm, they were "heated up a bit more" The dessert menu, a grubby sheet with an asterisk without any matching explanation and allergies said to be on the reverse, were non existent. The staff were friendly and courteous but scruffy and inefficient.

Service was good. Surroundings lovely. Food was incredibly disappointing. The vegetables that accompanied my fish pie were extremely over cooked. These were replaced halfway through my meal. The fish pie contained very little fish and was over cooked. Edible though. Just. I had a coffee and mini pud to follow. The coffee was lovely. The brownie was poorly made and was presented as if it had been warmed in the microwave for 10 minutes. Rendering it inedible. My son’s meal was ok. Surf and turf. His dessert, chocolate orange bombe, was lacklustre. It said it contained a chocolate orange mousse. The mousse element was literally less than half a teaspoon. This is the third time I’ve eaten at Fishers Pond. The first two times the food was really good. Based on last nights experience we won’t be returning.

I had really high hopes for a nice time and meal yesterday (21STDecember), but was very disappointed. Our group had our drinks order taken promptly which we thought that we would have a good experience but it went downhill rapidly from then. We had to wait for 15 minutes to have our food order taken. When our food arrived it wasn't good, my partners dinner looked burnt, my pie had hardly any meat in it and I would of needed a hammer and chisel to break the lid of my pie and my friends festive slaw looked like vomit on a plate. Once we had finished our food we had to wait nearly 40 minutes to get our plates cleared. The waiter asked if we wanted dessert to which we replied yes, so we got our dessert menus and had to wait for another 20 minutes to have our order taken. When the desserts arrived they were the best part of the meal. Overall we were in the pub for over 3 hours for a 2 course meal!! So won't be coming back again as the mains were poor and the whole menu is very overpriced for what we received.

Went last night , have to say really poor… Doom Bar beer was off. They had run out of scallops. They had run out of sea bass. They had run out of garlic prawn skewers. It was 7pm in the evening, pity anyone coming later. The salt and pepper calamari was a (large portion) of battered rubbery crustacea, the sort I’d get from my own cooking of an oven ready packet from a local supermarket. No garnish or other attempt at presentation. The aubergine veggie stuff was tasteless and I suspect had been microwave reheated. The chicken skewers were again quite big, but tough as in overcooked. The raw(?) sprouts in the accompanying salad were strange & chewy. The first course plates were swished away, new cutlery put down, the main course followed instantly. And all this was expensive. Nice waiting staff. We have had some nice Sunday roasts here, making this all the more disappointing.

Unfortunately, the condescending waiter completely ruined this experience for us a couple of weeks ago. We stopped for a quick lunch and looking at the menu there were starters on one side, and sharing dishes on the other. We weren't clear if one was a sharing starter or a main course, so asked the waiter when he came to take our order. He looked at me like I was an idiot, then said "it's a starter, look" whilst pointing to the heading that said starter on the other side of the page. I'm sorry, neither of us were sure, and if we're asking it's obviously not clear is it, don't be a dick just answer. Or even say, it is a starter but I can ask if it can be done as a main? It completely ruined the mood and made me so angry, and it was so unnecessary. This guy does not know how to talk to customers. We ate and left as soon as possible, rather than having a drink and taking our time. We had been thinking of having a Christmas meal here but this has taken this place out of consideration altogether. Shame, as it had been nice on previous visits.

Excellent food! I had beef rib Bourgogne which was so tasty and fell off the bone, my partner had the fish cakes and thought they were equally as good! Our server Nick was brilliant, very attentive and had good timing when checking in on us. We were told there is a new chef and new management and it shows. We’ve been twice before and this was by far the best experience and is up there as one of the best meals I’ve ever had. We’re looking forward to our next visit

The food was amazing, loved the turkey breast and the portion sizes are generous. It was let down for us on this visit as we were ignored by the waiting staff, I wanted to order a dessert but our plates never got cleared away and no one came to check to take an order. Everyone else appeared to be served without an issue. Unfortunately we won’t be chancing it again as it really did lower the enjoyment of our visit.

It was perfect, table over looking the river, service was superb, the waiter was attentive, funny and informative. The menu was varied and we both loved the food, we had skewers with slaw. Desserts were also lovely. Thank you

Unbelievable experience from the minute we entered Fishers Pond! Firstly, the food! Out of this world! Steak cooked to perfection! Lamb skewers beautiful and tender! Signature burger amazing! Secondly, the service! We were served by Neil and what an absolute gentleman he was! Very knowledgable on the history of the pub and area and took time out of his busy workload to talk to us about the origins of the pub and he was very funny too! An absolute credit to Fishers Pond as were all the staff we encountered! Lastly, overall! You will not be disappointed to if you visit this place! I work up and down the country in my role at work staying in a wide variety of places and eating in a number of establishments and this is up there with anything I have experienced. Well done all, keep up the great work, my friends and I will be back!

Called in on the off chance for an early dinner on our way home after spending the day at Marwell Zoo. Very pleasantly surprised by a lovely view of the lake, friendly service and delicious food. Good choice!

Service was very good. Waitress was friendly, knowledgeable and very efficient. Starters were 9/10 but 2 of the 3 mains were 'meh' steak overcooked asked for MR & received WD (although waitress DID offer to replace it, i declined as we were 1/2 way through our meal). The Fish & chips were described as delicious, except the peas. atmosphere was very good. and views were great, must be beautiful in summer. What a shame the mains looked better than they tasted. Gave a 3* for food as starters were superb.

Probably one of the worst eating experiences I’ve ever had. The cutlery on the table when we arrived was covered in caked on food. The servers apologized and changed it out. The knife in the second set had visible brown chunks of meat stuck between the serrated edges. My wine glass on the table was absolutely filthy and couldn’t be used. I requested some bread from the ‘while you decide’ section, to be told “oh that’s just going to come out with your starters”. I pointed out what it said on the menu and we went ahead and ordered it. The bread and hummus never arrived but appeared on our bill. They removed it when we spotted it. I had a lime and soda in a large glass, the glass was so disgustingly filthy, I understand that a glass washer is used and can tarnish glasses, leaving them still clean but looking ‘dirty’. This was very different and was so dirty. I used my napkin to wipe around the rim of the glass there was brown and green sludge that was on the napkin. Revolting. The second glass was no better (I made the bar staff aware and they happily changed my drink out). My starter was crispy seafood platter from the specials. This consisted of deep fried fish and seafood on a plate with a small ramekin of mayo. The most beige and boring dish ever. I ate half of it as the fish didn’t taste right. My main arrived which was King Prawn Skewers. They were stone cold, as well as the ‘sizzling plate’ which had zero sizzle and also stone cold. The small prawns were clearly frozen and cooked directly from the freezer, which left burn marks on them in their shells, and 2 large prawns with heads and tails. All of the prawns had their veins still in them. And were completely inedible. Really dangerous for people to eat, and something that any chef would be completely aware of. Raised this to the server and said I couldn’t eat it. It was taken away and the meal comped, I was told “this is how it’s meant to be served”. My fellow diner had a butternut squash burger that was literally burned to black. Another had a roast dinner that had one slice of white meat, and for over £20 was disgusting for the cost. The fishers pond is a beautiful, stylish venue, the setting is gorgeous, and the staff were clearly over worked and not enough to cope with the influx of customers. We were there for 2.5 hours in total, waited 40 minutes for drinks, had to ask to order, and the whole experience was abysmal. Really disappointed as this was to celebrate my sisters birthday, and once we were there we were not able to leave and find somewhere else because of the time given it was Sunday. I only ate the 1/2 starter and some salad that was the accompaniment for the failed prawn skewers, and I feel physically sick. My husband has also come home and instantly had an upset stomach and felt nauseated from the food. Any bar manager knows that glasses need to be hand washed and properly cleaned infrequently to remove the gross sludge that is caused by the glass washer. And any good chef would know the risks of serving prawns not deveined. Even when leaving them whole for aesthetic purposes you slice down the back and remove the waste. They were FULL of it and completely ruined my meal. What a shame, such a beautiful venue but terrible food.

Second visit last night to celebrate my birthday with my family. Excellent food which we all enjoyed, including very clear gluten free options that really helps. A special mention to Nick the waiter. His charm and sense of humour really brightened our day and helped make the occasion more special. Thank you very much.

I don’t like to leave bad reviews but unfortunately in this case I need to as I hope the owner can see this and react upon accordingly. We were on our way home around 8:30pm and thought we’d have a nice sausage and chips for our dinner. How disappointed were we? From the outside the shop looks ok but once you get in the place is filled with smoke ( it was like the extraction wasn’t on?) so instead of waiting for our order inside we went out and came back in 5 mins later. The young lady that served us was pleasant but the other staff just looked as they were in a youth club and messing about. So we get home 10 mins later and eagerly want to tuck in and after the 8/9 layers of paper that wrapped them we had what we thought were generous portions of chips with our battered sausage. Well we were glad they were generous as the majority of them were stuck to the paper as they swimming in oil. Instantly from the first chip I thought that they had a peculiar taste and after a two more chips I had to put them in the bin! They had definitely been cooked in very old cooking oil as they had that bitterness to them. The battered sausage was like any other battered sausage so no complaints there.
