Friendly Phil's in Winchester

Bit boring. Ok burger, nothing special, It feels like a helium balloon with half the air missing. You think it must have been quite impressive at some point, but not when I was there.... Also when the restaurant has the word friendly and Phil in the title, I dont expect to meet a guy called Phil but anticipate the staff would be a bit more lively.... They were not..... On a scale of dead to TGI Fridays they were a 3......

I found friendly Phil's clean bright and welcoming The staff were friendly they offered my grandson a colouring sheet And took our order the food arrived promptly and tasted delicious We especially enjoyed the dessert of churros n icecream I would recommend this restaurant to friends and family Its children friendly n welcoming

Visited for a birthday dinner for 10. Service was friendly. 3 waitresses kept checking on us to make sure we are ok. Bottomless drinks were refilled quickly. Food was nice. £14 for a burger is fairly top end but it did taste nice so that is ok. The ribs were also nice. I since found out that you can get substantial discounts from groupon. That would make a difference and much better value for money. Saying that, it will deter clients paying full price. Even without promotion, it was ok and I will return. There is a big car park right in front of the restaurant. The atmosphere was good as is the decor. Pleasant meal.

Recently visited for my daughters 8th birthday. A really friendly and welcoming team who made it special for her. Good prompt service and everyone enjoyed their food. Thank you

Stopped in Friendly Phil’s for a late breakfast before Christmas shopping at Whiteley. It wasn’t very busy and we were shown by a friendly waitress to a booth by the window. The service seemed to be pretty efficient however the problems started when my bacon and scrambled eggs with a muffin arrived. I had specifically asked for the bacon to be well done but what turned up had hardly been shown the frying pan and was decidedly “rare”. I pointed this out to the waiter who promptly took the plate away returning 5 minutes later with now rather better cooked bacon but the plate swimming in liquid to the extent that the muffin was soggy. I pointed this out too and again the plate was taken away. After a rather longer wait of maybe 10 minutes (by which time my co-diners had finished their food) a new plate of food arrived everything this time cooked and presented the way it should have been the first time. So eventually they got it right but it was a bit of a mission. I won’t be hurrying back.

Went I'm off the cuff after shopping at Whitely. Glad we did friendly staff, lovely setting. Comfy and clean. Great value for money. Very tasty. Decent prices.

Just had cheese burger and sweet potato fries. Both the burger and fries were piping hot and very tasty. I expected a small portion but the chips were plentiful and the burger was huge. Would definitely recommend and would 100% return. Also had churros and a brownie for dessert which were perfect. The sauce that came with the churros was so delicious. We were served by a wonderful lady called Renata who was very polite and attentive to us.

I have visted Friendly Phills on many occasions the staff are very friendly and helpful which makes me fill very welcome, the service briilant, the food is excellant and great value for money, lovely clean and tidy restaurant its a pleasure to eat there.

The food at the Whiteley branch of Friendly Phils was distinctly underwhelming. The burger patty was black and crunchy in places where it was so overcooked, and the burger bun had blackened edges from being burnt. Salad garnishes on the plate and in the burgers contained brown edged wilted lettuce. They got the orders wrong for one person on our table. We then had to experience a female member of staff and a male chef uttering expletives and discriminatory terminology when loudly discussing a customer who was at the next table to us - because that customer had asked about allergies. We felt very uncomfortable listening to that. I think the woman doing this was the manageress because she was the only one not wearing an apron and appeared to be telling others what to do. The staff didn't give time to read the menu before 3 of them came to the table within about 10 seconds of each other - their impatience was quite palpable. the woman who I think is the manageress actually huffed at us when we asked for more time before ordering. There was a query at one of the tables near us - the woman who I think is the manageress started yelling at those people from about 5 feet away. Then she went to their table again and started bellowing at them. We also found that behaviour very uncomfortable to witness. One of the waitresses continually fiddled with the pony tail in her hair, then did not wash her hands before handling plates of food. Another waitress used a cloth to wipe down a table, then went straight to the chef station and picked up two plates of food to carry to customers, also without washing her hands first. I also saw a waitress 'huff' onto a glass and buff it with her apron before filling it on the drinks machine and carrying it to another table. The tables were quite dirty and we had to wipe food off the seats before we could sit. The cutlery was filthy with lumps of dried food on. A lamp next to our table had a thick layer of dust on it. The toilets were also dirty. In the ladies toilets there was an industrial sized toilet roll placed on the edge of the sink - which had what looked like dried faeces on ! The sink itself was filthy with lots of soggy tissue in it, and the floor was wet. The toilets smelled like there was a drain problem. The whole experience was quite unpleasant - needless to say we left much quicker than we had anticipated - and will not be returning. This is probably the worst restaurant I have been to in this decade. They certainly donlt live up to their name of "friendly".

Took my daughter and grandson for lunch. Ordered two salads and waited 25 minutes. Took one look and saw that the salad was old. brown spots and mushy underneath. Eventually flagged down the waitress and told her to take it away as eating stagnated salad leaves wasn't healthy. No time for anything else so just asked for the bill for our drinks. She only removed one salad from the bill as apparently salad is meant to be brown! I refused to pay and left. Staff never apologised and were rude. Avoid !!

Went for lunch today with some friends and our children. The service was very slow and certainly wasn't friendly, our waitress didn't crack a smile the entire time we were there. The food was mediocre. My daughter had garlic bread to start with looked dry and I saw no evidence of garlic butter. I had the halloumi wrap for a main course and I struggled to find any halloumi amongst the masses of lettuce. We had to ask for dessert menus but gave up waiting to order a dessert so just asked for the bill when we eventually managed to get someone's attention.

service friendly but food slow to come out when restaurant was nearly empty. Varied menu but burgers looked/tasted like a Mcdonalds, says it all......

Visited here with my girlfriend and friends on the 14th September and the whole experience was outstanding. The place was beautifuly decorated and very clean, the staff were friendly, funny, professional. The food was delicious and looked good, I had the natchos and the burger and both portions were huge. Overall this has had to have been one of my best experiences in a restaurant and will definitely be back!

Burger was unseasoned, over cooked and just tasted of dead meat. Chips were nice tho. Expensive for mediocre food, better off going to Mac Donald’s.

After spending a day with our 2 grandchildren at Longleat we took them to friendly Phil's for evening dinner. Both the atmosphere and food was brilliant and I strongly recommend the Philly cheese steak sandwich which was the best we have had outside the USA. Follow this down with a John Adam's beer for an authentic taste of America. The deserts are worth trying as well. We all had a great time and it made a fantastic end to a fantastic day.

My daughter & I were the second group of the day, arriving 5 minutes after opening. Our order was taken within 10 minutes and the lovely waitress pointed out a meal deal we had missed! Breakfast took quite a while to arrive considering only 4 tables were in use, but we weren’t in a rush so enjoyed our drinks. The cookies & cream shake was delicious!

We booked for a family meal, the staff were really good and arranged the tables so we could all be on one , the food was hot , tasty and plentiful, the whole experience was really good, we'll be going again. The staff were amazing, all very helpful and polite, they played and danced with the children and babies which made a nice time for all three generations.

When sat we were told 20-30 mins wait, over an hour later we eventually got our food, which was cold! And as for friendly Phils, well the staff never smiled once!

The waitress who was working in the flowery dress was amazing with the children within the restaurant, She said she used to work with children, and was amazing. Even got my son to sit and eat most of his food though the cheese on the macaroni was very strong so not liked by him so he could not finish this.

Over priced and small portions.

Popped in her before going to the cinema. Our waitress Dominika was friendly and efficient. I chose the lunchtime special which is excellent value and my daughter chose the Buffalo Chicken Burger which she said was delicious. And the Churros are really yummy. Will definitely be going back.

We were sat finally after waiting at the door for 10 minutes (the restaurant was not busy at all) and the waitress took 20 minutes to even ask for our drinks order let alone food. Then all we ordered was a milkshake each and that took a further 20 minutes to arrive. The bill took forever to come. Will not be returning.

although the food was nice the service was AWFUL

We had our son’s birthday dinner here today. The food for the children was awful - small portions and quality not great. The service was terrible - so much so that I ended up taking our orders myself and giving them to the waitress. We then got asked to be a little quieter - hard when you have twelve 5- 7 year olds and they’re hungry! At no point were we ever approached by a waitress for them to take our order and I had to do this for dessert too.

Went in there for lunch today - took over 45 minutes to be served ‘fast food’. The service could not have been much worse. Food was average at best which considering a burger and chips was £11 is not what you would expect.

We went here for a family lunchtime. The food was average at best, nothing spectacular but the service was absolutely appalling. The restaurant was busy as you would expect during school holidays but the service was not up to par, and we felt ruined our visit. We had to get up to get the waitresses attention at every point during the meal, to take our drinks order, to put our food order in, to get desert menus, to get the bill etc. What is entirely laughable is the 10% service charge they added to our bill because there was 6 of us, the 6th person in our group was a 2 year old! We won't be coming back or recommending.

Food was quite good - although coffee was luke warm. Portions not great. Waitress was polite. Probably wouldn't return as nothing special and not cheap.

To be honest heard negative things about the restaurant so decided to try the Groupon offer they were running. Friendly staff, good food and would definitely go back. There is a good choice but really only burgers and hot dogs, but if that is what you are wanting, give it a go, we enjoyed it.

So decided to go here for a treat for mother's day ordered at 12.05 lunch didn't arrive until 13.00 had to ask if it was coming out as I realized that the other tables that order well after us were already served and actual finished! The staff members were nice but not sure they told us the truth saying ours was actually next? The food itself was nice except one of the burgers see picture was lacking in sauce!The time it took has made me score this visit poorly. I was expecting a great service but was dissatisfied wth the wait time! But on a positive which has made the score raise a little they gave us 20% off!

We love coming here when we come to the cinema. The peanut butter shake is really good. Plus I always have the loaded nachos which are so tasty. My husband loves the burgers. Plus they quite often do 20% discount if you have a valid cinema ticket for the day you visit.

Went here for breakfast earlier today, very average. The bacon was clearly cooked on the surface of the sun, crispy would be an understatement. The mushrooms resembled something you'd be annoyed at stepping in. Eggs were good, pity about the cold toast, really cold. The staff were nice enough, service was slow! All in all a very average if somewhat overpriced breakfast.

Lovely thick shakes, loads of different flavours to choose from. Good service and great burgers. We went here to use a Groupon voucher but were surprised at how good the choices were that were available to us. Fun, American style diner theme, easy parking.

Burger is ok but not up to the standard of other trendy burger places. I did have a good time here and it was nice to spend time with my 3 yr old daughter - I treated her to banana and nutella pancakes! The staff were freindly and good with her. My one wish would be free refills on coffee. I'd finished my coffee before my food came but really didn't want to spend on another 1/2 drinks during my visit. Would also add to the American diner feel.

Found this restaurant today, an was gladly surprised.

Great American diner, very friendly young Romanian waitresses, and super service, The burgers were great, very tasty indeed and the buns were properly toasted, not the flabby things you get in other places, The churros for dessert were lovely too, everything was freshly cooked, we will definitely be back!

Came here for lunch today and had a lovely meal. Service and waiters were quick, prompt and very helpful. Waitress assured me that all gluten free foods are cooked separately to foods containing gluten. (Although they cant promise anything). I had a gluten free chicken burger and sweet potato fries, chicken was slightly dry but nothing a bit of mayo can’t sort out. My partner had the all day breakfast which was presented amazingly, and he really enjoyed it! slightly over priced but for a nice lunch out as a treat wasn’t too bad. Not a lot of gluten free options but there are a few, vegetarian options also available.

This is the second time we’ve been to Friendly Phil’s and both times the food and service have been excellent! This time we had the Deep South burger. Perfectly cooked with tasty cheese and bacon. Milkshakes are thick and creamy. I recommend the Nutella one.

The food was great and the service was super fast. I went with my 10-year-old brother and my 8-year-old sister and they weren’t complaining that the food was too slow or that they were hungry which was brilliant. Will definitely return!!!! 😀😀🌭🍔🍟

We visited on yesterday afternoon on a average Saturday lunchtime. It wasn’t even that busy.

18th birthday party for 7 family members, two had 2-for-1 Tastecard and two had Groupon vouchers which dramatically reduced and improved the cost for average burgers & chips.

American diner themed restaurant. We visited at a quiet lunchtime when it was pretty much empty, still took a while for food to arrive which raises hopes it is cooked to order.We had a Groupon deal which reduced the cost quite nicely. Wait staff were friendly and efficient, burger was decent if not great, with generous portions of our side orders. We chose chips and onion rings and shared them between us. Milkshakes looked good but mine had only a hint of banana, the supposed flavour. All very clean but a little underwhelming.

Friendly phil’s diner in whitely is a very nice restaurant with very good staff but the amount of time you have to wait for your meal is disastrous! Me and my friend had to wait an hour just for our starter to come and about another hour for food and we did not have any time left so if you’re not patient don’t come here !

We stopped here on our way to devon after a search on trip advisor, not dissapointed as food was good with friendly staff,the children loved the mikkshakes for breakfast! My only niggle i could of done with a larger coffee cup or a pot / free refill.

We just popped in for some lunch after a successful shopping trip. It was quiet as to be expected on a Wednesday early afternoon but it had a lovely atmosphere. The food was really tasty as well as quick. The staff were happy to help, especially David who was especially friendly. We definitely want to go back and try the rest of the menu! Fries and onion rings are exceptional, churros and pancakes are also sooo good!

Bought a Groupon voucher for 4 for £37. Milkshakes, burgers and fries. Milkshakes were definitely above average. Burgers and fries average. Reasonable price with voucher and we all enjoyed it but not exceptional. What did make the visit was the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff. They were great.

We went here this morning. There were four of us... two adults and two children. I was amazed at the value of the menu for the kids. £5 and that included a starter, main, dessert and drink. My husband and I had burgers and we weren't disappointed... amazing taste and quality. Overall, great value for what you get. The side orders were generous! The thing that will make us come back, a part from the excellent food, was the attitude of the staff. All staff from start to finish were incredibly polite and went the extra mile, coming outside (where we were sitting) and chatting to my children. Going out with young kids can be expensive and stressful... this place made it easy. Thank you for an amazing lunch and genuine service with a smile. Oh and the toilets were great too! We will definitely be back :)

We visited on a Monday evening on a Groupon deal.

We went with a Groupon and arrived around noon to a near empty place. Having lived in the USA for 20 years I found it lacking in real "diner atmosphere", a touch sterile for me. We were seated and the service was good but found the cheeseburger itself tasty but smaller than I was expecting, however the "sides" were done well.

This is the second time I have been for breakfast and I’m annoyed I went back after the first visit (I thought I’d give it another go!). The service is slow despite the restaurant being empty (tell-tale sign!) and some of my breakfast was cold, while other elements were piping hot.

This review is going to be unusually short for me as we sampled only a limited section of the menu for a quick lunch. To be honest, the Friendly Phil's branding is a bit of commercial acrobatics as the Whiteley outlet replaced a Dean's Diner owned by the Richoux Group when they reorganised in 2017. Friendly Phil's is part of the same group.

My wife was insistent on trying Friendly Phil's for dinner today though I was initially skeptical. It turns out I was wrong. I had a Deep South burger with fries, she had the Pulled Pork burger with onion rings. Both were large and tasted great. We had our two kids with us and the kids menu is actually very good value for money. They get a starter, main, dessert and drink all for a fiver each, and they're decent sized portions.

Came here at lunch time as it used to be Deans Diner and wanted to see if it was the same. Very friendly staff. Good selection of food with some good offers. Prices very reasonable for that type of food. Will return.

Went to friendly phils as they had a nice sunny table at the front of the restaurant and with two young children a diner is an easy choice. Unfortunately the burgers were horrible, no flavour, very dry and so solid they were difficult to bite and chew. I expected more from a Diner themed restaurant especially as the pricing I thought was quite high. Definitely won’t visit again. I’m giving 2 stars rather than 1 as the staff member was very friendly and I thought the children’s menu was a good price though a little more choice would be good.

Visited during the recent snow storm looking for comfort food; somewhat satisfied; friendly staff, efficient service, nothing to write home about. Standard fayre menu with all the usuals; OK inside with booths. Nothing to either write home about or travel far for.

3 of us had the all day breakfast and all were well pleased. The crispy bacon is not to everyone's taste but it was OK for us. The sausage had a really nice taste. Service was good and the staff friendly. Will eat here again without doubt.

Visited here recently with friends and had a nice time. The atmosphere is nice abd the staff are friendly. The menu is varied and more reasonable than some of the other restaurants in the area. The food was nice and the cold drinks were unlimited which was really good value for money. You can also get 20% off your bill with an NUS card. I would definitely visit again in the future.

We were looking for somewhere to have a light lunch a cam across this American style diner as we were fairly early in the day around 12:30 we had no problem getting a table,i opted for the all day breakfast and my wife had eggs ,bacon and pancakes with maple syrup service was good and the food was well worth the money all in all a good experience

Visited with my wife one evening at the weekend. Was quick to be seated and quite quick service.

This place looks the part but did not deliver with a decent meal.

We turned up during a busy lunch hour in the summer holidays and asked for seating for 12. They accommodated us, as requested, split over three tables - 4 adults in one booth, 6 children in the next booth, and two older children on a separate table. Every request was listened to, they made time to make sure everyone was sorted and happy - and thrilled the older two children by serving them separately, making them feel happily grown up, while discretely checking the adults gave permission for everything ordered. According to the receipt we were served by David - thank you for taking out all the stress of feeding 8 kids in the summer holidays! £100 for the 12 of us - bargain!

Took the kids here for a treat , what a mistake ! Waiting staff never smiled , they kept disappearing, ordered chips with meals and all 4 portions were different sizes ! Had to get up from the table to find the staff if we required anything

Just had lunch here , good food and good service, burgers are proper meaty type, like home made, good team working together at a very busy time.

In a word " Awesome ". At last I have found a real American diner , the food was excellent and unlike the last 20+ restaurants I have been to in the last 2 years the food was piping hot!!!!. Fantastic service from the female waitress who went through the menu and explained the best deals. First class and ohh you must try the peanut butter milkshake it's shockingly awesome!!!

Burgers were tasty and quite large. It was good to see chicken breast fillet burgers offering a slightly healthier option. Thought the side dishes were quite tasty expensive (£2.95 for 5 onion rings; £2.95 for tablespoon of coleslaw ) Good service and clean restaurant

My son chose here out of the wide choice if restaurants. I have a burger which was great and my son had the cheese toastie from the children's menu. The peanut butter milkshake is amazing!

This looked a good place for a meal with friends sadly was disapointed the girst table offered so cramp i asked to move we were also disappointed with the service our waitress spent more time checking her phone and touching up her make than actually paying attention to her customers we waited half an hour for drinks after they were ordered ,food was ok but have had a better burger from five guys to be honest and only part of our order came we had to get the attention of our pre-occupied waitress to get the rest of our order Took us three attempts to get our bill hence left not having a desert will not be using here again .

Over priced for the food on offer service good although was a quiet night staff were friendly and helpful

We visited this place for the first time on a weekday and I have admit I was very impressed with both the food and the service! We booked our table online and on arrival the waitress had already laid our table, complete with candle and wine glasses. It was almost like she was expecting us. An odd thing to say I know given the fact we booked beforehand, but it was quite refreshing to feel so welcome. As opposed to other establishments where you're greeted by a grunt.

Very friendly make served us, made time for us, showed us the special offers by downloading a voucher on internet. Good well presented and tasty meal, very clean establishment. One to return too

Impromptu stop on Saturday night for a family meal. Whiteley Village has a few restaurants but they are the usual chains so we decided to try this place instead. Greeted by friendly staff and quickly seated in a good sized booth. Drinks order was quickly served, a good choice of soft drinks, shakes and alcohol- soft drinks are bottomless which was ideal for the kids. My wife and I ordered the chicken combo to share - a whole roast chicken served with 4 sides. The chicken was well cooked, lightly spiced and very succulent. Sides were good sized portions and also well cooked. Both kids had chicken burgers with a variety of toppings and 2 sides each. All the food was very well cooked and served promptly by friendly waiters. So much food that we couldn't fit in a dessert!

I received a voucher for this place so thought we would try it out for lunch on bank holiday Monday. The place wasn't exactly heaving so I was expecting the worst but it was actually really good. The staff were great, food was lovely, great beef and chicken burgers and crispy fries and onion rings. Would definitely return, was expecting it to be more run of the mill but food presentation and atmosphere along with staff and quality of food was really very good.

So this morning I am returning for the third time this holiday with my family to have the American pancake breakfast.

Today six of ate here... 5 meals arrived the 6th had been forgotton so that arrived when the rest had finished eating... I ordered half a chicken presumed it was as stated just half a chicken, however when it arrived it was covered in BBQ sauce, which I would never have chosen, apparently I did have a choice something the waitress omitted to tell me and chose for me... Every complaint was met with shrugged shoulders... Every restaurant I have eaten in comes as a meal but not here, everything has to be ordered separately... In comparison to the other fantastic restaurants in Whiteley this was well over priced even with good service... The restaurant only had about 5 tables in so it wasn't even busy.... In my opinion there are many great restaurants in Whiteley, but this is definitely one to avoid....

Visited Saturday late morning for Brunch - first impression from outside was good, and inside was much approved on previous restaurant. Warmer feel to the restaurant. However service was slow, and when coffee arrived the latte had to be returned as it wasn't hot, which resulted in another wait. When the breakfasts arrived both tasted and looked good, but toast had to be returned as bread was not toasted, and poached eggs were luke warm. Overall it was OK, pricey compared to other outlets when you also consider they offer unlimited refills on coffee too which Phil's don't. Finally, service with a smile would be good. Would give it another try though.

I took my 3 daughters here for lunch after visiting the cinema & shopping. Practically empty so seated straight away and orders taken soon after. Staff looked bored and were not particularly welcoming!

We popped in on a Sunday lunch time and were so impressed with the menu and the service! The free refill son soft drinks make a difference too! Food was scummy and we'll definitely be back!

A group of 9 of us attended earlier today, the loss of 1 star was due to how long it took the food to come, despite us sending our order through before we attended and called them to clarify.

We went here midweek at lunchtime with our baby and took advantage of the deal, and we were very glad we did. Good honest food, the veggie (falafel) burger was lovely and the staff (Romana ? And Audrey) were very friendly. Unlimited soft drinks too. High chairs for babies. Great value for money

Visited for a quick lunch after shopping and have to say that we wasn't disappointed. Greeted on door by smiley female manager,tasty food arrived quickly and our waitress Adrienn was really friendly towards our baby girl. Well done guys !

Visited here for the first time on Friday evening. The food was quite good but the place didn't have the best atmosphere. The staff were not very friendly and nobody came to check out food was ok. I wouldn't rush back in a hurry but the food was OK just nothing special.

Me and my wife visited phils 27th june 2017. The staff were so friendly . The soft drinks were unlimited and one would appear as soon as you finished one . The chicken fillet burger with blue cheese and bacon was tastiest burger i have had for a while. The sides chips with bacon and cheese yum yum and corn on cob ( fresh corn a real rare thing usually frozen ) delicious . I ended things with a stack of pancakes fresh and amazing . All in all we will be back .
