This little cafe sits right by the sea. The staff are really lovely and welcoming, despite finishing food for the day they still agreed to cook for us. Ham, egg and chips was amazing and our little one was very happy with his sausage, chips and beans. The menu is pretty extensive and there was some lovely cakes on offer too. Reasonably priced with proper mugs of tea. Toilets were also spotless which is also imperative!
Food was tasty and plentiful - enough for another day.
I had sweet & sour chicken Hong Kong style - lovely crisp batter and sauce was perfect.
My partner had Special chow mein, lots of crunchy vegetables and a very tasty sauce.
Have used other chineses in Ryde and this beats them all.
Excellent quality bread. Highly recommend focaccia and baguettes. Also basic pastries range pain au chocolat, croissant and palmier every day plus one suprise bake. Later there are often tarts which looks amazing. One tiny niggle the drinks are a little expensive especially a pot of tea at £4.20.
We visited for lunch and decided to order on the app, but it was at odds with what was on the physical menu and no pasta dishes showing, which is what we specifically came for, so we ended up ordering at the till instead. Unfortunately, there was only ravioli available from the pasta section so I had that which was delicious. We didn’t try any cakes as there were so many peanut ones which was disappointing as I’m severely allergic. I wasn’t a huge fan of the strawberry milkshake I had but the service was quicker than when we came last time and I do like the setting of the café.
This cafe used to be known as ‘The Tollgate Cafe’, however, after the previous owners retired, it was bought out by the people who own & run ‘The Best Dressed Crab, a few hundred yards further down the beach, it is now known as ‘The Harbour View’.
Sadly, what was once a cute, well managed & friendly café with very reasonable food, has now become a place with sometimes rude staff & extortionate prices.
It’s still a lovely place to sit & watch the harbour from, but £2.00 for a can of Coke, no thank you, go elsewhere, I do now.
Actually one of the best Sunday lunches I have ever had, fresh food cooked to perfection with roast beef that melted in your mouth, very accomodating friendly hosts serving a group of 12 friends all at once, thoroughly recommended, beautiful..
Bland, flavourless dishes, 1 king prawn in my special mixed meal.... Well below average.
No flavour in the bean sprouts, no flavour in anything. Expensive.
This hotel was the accommodation for a Caledonian Travel trip. Avoid this hotel at all costs.
Budget hotel with dirty dated rooms and meals that you would nt serve to your worst enemy. Staff not helpful or apologetic of any of other residents issues- basicallly it’s a budget hotel so shut up and put up!
Five star food and great service. We ate in the bar because we had our dog with us. Nice surroundings in a historic building, the restaurant looked good too. Decent menu and wine list. I had soft shell crab followed by pork belly, both were outstanding. Reasonable prices too. There isn’t anywhere else like this in East Cowes.
Reasonable prices and a lovely choice of snacks and drinks but better in the fine weather as the majority of seating is outside. The shortbread is to die for!
Visited today for a cream tea. Drinks served in dirty mugs, scones on polystyrene plates with one pot of jam and cream to share. Scone was like rubber. We only had one mouth and left. Disgraceful!!
