Caledonian coach trip mid December 2024 with my sisters. We had a fabulous time! Food was more than acceptable and plentiful, staff excellent and yes the hotel is in need of refurbishment but seriously what do people expect for the price they pay on these breaks? Housekeeping good as rooms were clean as were the beds, bedding and towels. The entertainment was also good and we enjoyed enthusiastic artists who gave us their all. Possibly we were fortunate in that we were the only group ( 30 or so people) using the hotel that week but we had a great time and will be back at some point to this hotel in the Isle of Wight courtesy of Caledonian Travel!
Awful customer service. For such a small business, that I’ve heard good things about, their customer service is really bad. Not sure if he’s the owner, but he was rude. A smile would go far it’s not hard :) x
Absolutely shocking (pardon the pun). Went in here with my partner after a party and ordered a drink each before heading to a wall opposite the bar to drink and chat (you can see the wall in question in the attached photo). As we were chatting we went to lean against the wall and were hit with an electric shock. Accidentally I then touched the wall again and was promptly hit with another pretty painful electric shock. I looked at the wall in question and it was clearly damp and appeared that touching any part of the wall around the light switch would electrocute you. Obviously not wanting anyone else to experience this I informed a member of the bar staff and we were told that they were aware of the issue and that was it. If you’re aware of the issue why are not blocking off that wall immediately and making sure no one goes near it?! Irritated by his lack of response we then informed a bouncer who gave another nonchalant response and said they were also aware of it but nothing they could do currently. Absolute rubbish. Block the wall of so no one gets zapped!!! Disgusting attitude by the staff who clearly don’t care about the clientele. I wonder how long this wall has been in this state and I fear for the next person who brushes against it.
While a Historic venue, very picturesque, with helpful and attentive staff for the most part, for the price, the lunch was a bit of a let down.
I get that its December, and that gives places carte blanche to fire out mediocre meals on the excuse that its Christmas, and we're busy, and its a set menu... but the decision to use a set menu should enable quality to be maintained.
The food was bland, not hot and to be honest a real disappointment. The only reason for not raising a complaint at the time was that we didnt want to upset the guest of honour at the family gathering.
Sadly, I had a better meal the following day at a Hungry Horse with a glass of wine all in for a tenner... so I know where I will be going next time.
Went in for lunch after a vito Osbourne House, delicious homemade pie made on the premises highly recommend, everything was hot and generous portions.
Friendly staff, will be going back.
Reasonable prices and a lovely choice of snacks and drinks but better in the fine weather as the majority of seating is outside. The shortbread is to die for!
Fantastic food and staff. The chefs are brilliant as are the waiting staff. Brilliant thanks so much. Will recommend and bring family and friends back for more lovely delicious food and the shop is gorgeous. The staff in shop are great too and very helpful.
We had read previous reviews about service so we’re prepared.. we were sat straight down and given menus, quite a few bookings came at the same time. Food order was taken quickly and drinks brought. The waitress was very busy but dealt with it well although there was a young waiter passing the floor but no interaction with the customers not actually sure what he was doing. We didn’t get offered the dessert menu but had enjoyed our meal so didn’t need one. Excellent food and good portion size.
Visited today for a cream tea. Drinks served in dirty mugs, scones on polystyrene plates with one pot of jam and cream to share. Scone was like rubber. We only had one mouth and left. Disgraceful!!

The best Chinese takeaway in Newport, always fresh tasting ingredients and no MSG, always my first choice tastes authentic not like some others and a calendar as well !
