Just had afternoon tea here with my friend and I’m shocked at the price you pay for its £40 for just a pot of tea, 2 scones a little pot of jam and cream, sandwiches and a little cake selection which was not very tasty at all, I would of been nice for them to have asked what we would prefer in our sandwiches first, very disappointed and will not be returning.

The luncheon I attended was possibly one of the worst I have experienced. The food was of a very poor standard and the overall customer care was appalling!! The total lack of supervision and direction from the General Manager was noted. The follow up of a complaint was not dealt with on the day and has still not been resolved by either the General Manager or the owner.

We have eaten here many times and always been very satisfied. We were treated to afternoon tea by a friend and were really disappointed. It was very over priced. The scones were very dry, cold and only one choice, plain. There was no butter and the cream was runny, not clotted, very poor choice of cake. We have many afternoon teas on the island and this was by far the poorest.

We went here for a family meal, we decided to use a voucher to try out this place for the first time. Everything was good and the original waitress was lovely! The kitchen even made a different order for my niece, very accomodating. But by the end of the meal we had another waiter and he was so incredibly condescending. A error was made on our bill and an extra course added- he was so rude and arrogant presumably because he was being judgemental about our voucher. He shook his head at us and even went to the kitchen to check if we were lying about having this extra course. He just about apologised when corrected but still shook his head at us. The meal cost £110 with the voucher so hardly a huge deal! I have no issue paying full price but have never eaten here before so figured a voucher would be a good way to try it. He independently ensured we will never eat there again. Aside from our table the restaurant was completely empty, following our own experience I'm not surprised.

On the 18th December 2022 we attended a Festive Xmas dinner. Due the General Managers wedding the day before and proceedings running over, a wedding brunch the next morning and a lack of staff on the 18th the festive dinner was held in a gazebo with no heating and no festive dressings. The food was nice and the service from the young staff was good, however it should of been cancelled due to the freezing conditions. Guests were sat in coats, hats and gloves. The staff were very apologetic and one stated "Its disgusting how we have treated our guests today" They were right. We have sent so far 5 emails of complaint, 2 to the owner and 3 to general enquiries. We have received one reply to say the the first email to GE was forwarded to the owner. It is now 5 weeks, no replies, no apologies, nothing. I accept things can go wrong but when they do you put your hands up and say sorry, not ignore customers. So I'm very sorry I will never return.

Booked for Sunday Lunch unfortunately the function room was not available and the event was set!up in the marquee, It was freezing cold (blankets were provided)! We were told that the Manager had got married and that the function went on until 3h30 in the morning and that the cleaning staff had not turned up to cleanup the dining room. We asked if our table could be moved into the Bar area. Apparently not as then everyone else would want to move. However we could have our lunch on the coffee table in the bar! Have you ever tried eating a Sunday Roast from a coffee table? We were offered a complementry drink - hardly satisfactory compensation! We were very embarrassed as we were entertaining overseas visitors hardly an impression we wished for them to go home with.

We visited as part of a group of 25. There was a total of 93 in the room according to the staff. Our table would comfortably seat 16 to 18. We all moaned about it. We literally took turns to lean forward to cut the food. Some resorted to just using a fork. The food was OK, Sprouts and new potatoes rock hard unfortunately. The music was OK until it went to club sounds and at that point a lot left. One old school coat stand we were directed to. At about 40 pounds a head you would expect more comfort.

Five years living on the Island, I'm ashamed to say this is the first visit to this restaurant but it most definitely won't be the last. Absolutely delightful setting on a cold winter's day. We had requested an 'out-of-the-way' table and were delighted where we were sat - a huge table all to ourselves. The staff were perfect - friendly, knowledgeable and just the right amount of attention. The food was very well cooked, well presented and tasted delicious and also extremely reasonably priced although we did take advantage of TPIW vouchers. We lunch out quite frequently and this restaurant will now be on our list of 'return' visits.

We have lived near by for many years, and decided to try the restaurant. There was a choice of 2 options in either fish, meat, or vegetarian. We chose the fish cakes, these were 90% mash potato with salad. So the starter was disappointing. I had the Fish and triple cook chips which was nice but not exceptional. My wife had the fillet of Sea bass with the crab risotto which also came with a salad. In the words of Master chef they did not belong on the same plate. The Sea Bass was with the skin on which should have been crisp, but was soggy and the risotto was heavy and had no taste of crab. The cheese board was very good and the chocolate pud was nice. However the staff were very nice and there was a pleasant atmosphere.

Valentines meal. Have visited before for another occasion some years ago and a very similar experience. Food is excellent however service is an interesting one, I believe the staff are mainly training personnel from IW college. Although very pleasant there was much missing, the basics like briefing of staff prior to service clearly didn’t happen as staff unclear on menu basics. No knowledge of courses or accompanying wine. No clear responsibility on who does what. A valentines meal and much money being spent and the rose on the table not a gift, it’s a bit cheapscate on behalf of the restaurant and everyone knows it’s a norm for valentines! Signals like wine bottle removed from bucket as it was empty were missed and had get attention to get another. If the service staff are training I dread to think who is teaching as my thoughts are they have no idea of what a decent dining experience consists of. Come on Consort you are better than this with a little more attention to the detail.

Attended with a group for our celebration Christmas Lunch. Process went wrong when they sent wrong menu. Having all selected choices we had to repeat with very much second best options - some dropped out.The restaurant had indications of Christmas but the atmosphere was cold with zero enthusiasm from the staff. The main course many of us selected was the roast beef. I doubt if the total beef per serving was more than a couple of ounces with just two thin slices on some mash potato with a slither of kale between. Requests for more meat were answered from those brave enough to ask but the initial presentation was laughable. The plates were barely warm. We waited patiently for the veg and after 10 minutes questioned how long it would be as the food was already quite cold. Staff seemed surprised and stated veg was an extra! Another 10-15 minutes went by while they rustled up a few roast potatoes, carrots and Brussels sprouts which were as hard as bullets! All the food brought 1/2 an hour previous was in any way then cold.We had sent in a few notifications of allergies and reminded them on arrival. To our dismay they had taken no account of them and had we not questioned again a life threatening emergency could have resulted!!!Needless to say those with allergies took no desert.Poor service, small portions, no veg, no account for allergies, and a high price - absolute rubbish.

The mystery, was how on earth could the kitchen staff get it so wrong, that they managed to serve 84 people, the same meal, three pieces of well cooked tender beef, with a small cabbage stuffed spoonful of mash, totally stone cold??? There was nearly wholesale murder, when the patient guests, having paid £30 a head had been waiting over an hour and a half to be fed, and then received, what can only be described as cold cuts. The pudding wasn’t much better. The only crime committed here, was day light robbery. To be fair to the Manager, she did authorise a refund for our party, and provided free wine. I worry for anybody booking this venue, for their wedding reception.

There are two parts to this review as we stayed in the Albert Cottage hotel, home to the resturant so eat here for evening meal, and then breakfast. 1) dinner, the choice was limited but the mains were warm and tasty. I also had the sponge pudding and my husband the cheeseboard and we were really pleased. Local cheeses were on offer and the sponge was light, tasty and custard hot. Yum. However what is not mentioned is that the resturant is used to train catering staff therefore the service is friendly but basic. With limited supervision. 2) breakfast, hot and pleasantly presented. Local sausage, large mushroom pieces, tomatoes on the vine, grilled and a poached egg. We had to continually ask for coffee and our dirty plates were not cleared between cereal and hot breakfast.

We have just returned from our first visit to Albert Cottage. We booked in for the Valentine's Lunch menu. We were a little apprehensive and hoped that it wouldn't be stuffed full of Valentine paraphernalia and doe eyed couples staring into one another's eyes (I know, it's the cynic in me, forgive me.) We were relieved to find that decor was muted to two red roses in a vase on the table and the restaurant was fairly quiet. The menu was three courses for £21.00. Varied choices which included Sunday lunch favourites roast beef, pork with a fish option and a veggie option. I had scallops to start, followed by roast beef and pineapple and coconut roulade. My husband ordered scotch eggs followed by pork then Isle of Wight cheese board. The food was very nicely presented, perfect portion sizes and was very very good. The scallops were generous in size and the roulade beautifully light and very tasty. The cheese board also was very good, with the usual Isle of Wight favourites and some nice accompaniments, and finally somewhere who provides you with enough biscuits! Biscuit to cheese ratio excellent. Pinot noir also very good.Staff were friendly and attentive and we would be happy to return with friends and family in the future.

Works Christmas do held in a function room. Drinks in the bar to start off with - barman tried to short change me. I had to ASK for my change and I wasn't the only one. Function room itself looked lovely however our table was sat right in front of the DJ's speaker so it was very loud. Main course and potatoes brought out already on the plate. Had to wait a good 10 minutes before they brought out the veg. Only two types of veg - sprouts and carrots - both rock hard. I've heard of al dente but these were raw. Very poor. Tables of 10 people and only 2 bowls of vegetables (bowls were no more than 4" in diameter. We had to ask for more veg as there was not enough to go round ( at this point we didn't know the veg was inedible)The menu included tea/coffee and mince pies at the end of the meal. We had to ASK for tea/coffee and they were very surprised we asked for it but we did not receive a mince pie. No body did. A very poor show for a supposed exclusive venue.

I visited the Consort Restaurant at the Albert Cottage Hotel with my family for Sunday lunch and was pleasantly surprised at the quality and taste of the food. Everything was cooked to perfection. My nut roast was served with crunchy roast potatoes, vegetables and thyme gravy. Every mouthful was delicious! We all really nenjoyed our food. The staff were very friendly and attentive. I'll definitely be returning!

My wife enjoyed afternoon tea here a few weeks ago so she thought it would be a good idea to try Sunday lunch. On arrival we settled into the bar/lounge and were impressed with the view of the lovely grounds. We were offered menus promptly and our order was taken equally promptly, however, we were not offered aperitifs.I managed to attract the attention of the restaurant manager and asked if they had dry sherry for my wife. She looked puzzled and replied I will check. I ordered a lager for myself. After some considerable time we asked where our drinks were. We were informed they were at our table in the dining room but no one had told us or let us know our table was ready. The restaurant was abuzz with an army of keen, young waiting staff but sadly lacking experienced staff to guide them. Our drinks were on the table but the sherry was amontillado and my lager was a pint ?? In fairness the food was well presented and had it been freshly produced could have been a nice meal. Unfortunately it looked very tired as if it had been sitting around for some time and was not very hot. We requested horse radish for the beef and received mustard. We were not offered a wine list so asked for one but did not receive it until we had nearly finished the main course. Throughout the meal the waiting staff periodically bumped into the back of my wife's chair. All in all a great deal of room for improvement!

My Wife and I ate there last night and it was appalling. Firstly like many places the staff play music for themselves and not the customers, why management allows this is beyond me so we are bombarded by rap music, we were literally the only two people there at 7.30pm, the place is totally devoid of any atmosphere, it really is awful. We both had Duck starters which consisted of four small shaving of fatty duck with a dollop of coleslaw on the side, that's it.For main I had Cod in batter but they may as well have advertised it as batter only, the chips were exactly the same as McDonalds chips all complimented by overcooked peas that I am not sure were fresh or mushy. It really is that bad and you will have wished you had listened to my review should you ever have the misfortune to go there.

We had a lovely High Tea at Albert Cottage through 'The Price is Wight' and decided to try their sunday lunch offer. When we arrived we were greated with a young lady who took our order. My husband and I both ordered the roast beef. When the roast arrived it was well presented the vegetables and roast potatoes were delicious BUT the beef was so tough it was inedible I told the waitress that our beef was very tough and I could not eat it her reply was "oh sorry about that" she went into the kitchen where I thought she was talking to the chef but she came out a few minutes later and just walked off. Another waiter came to the table and asked if everythung was alright, I again said no but again he just said "sorry about that" and walked off, I was so shocked that a hotel charging £12.95 just for main on a Sunday did not at least offer if there was something they could do for us for example offer an alternative but nothing. I was so angry and disappointed I emailed the hotel twice but they to date have not replied. The Isle of Wight is such a small place that if things are not good word soon gets around and I certainly will not recommend to my friends simply by the lack of their customer care.

We visited the Albert Cottage Hotel's Consort restaurant largely because I had bought a voucher from a discount site, in order to see what it was like. The restaurant was very nicely appointed and had a calm feeling. There were many young staff who were very attentive. The food was very good with us trying between us the the roast pork, roast beef and chicken. My roast beef was tender and tasty and was locally sourced, which I always like to see. It could have possibly had a few more vegetables, as they were served on the plate although the pototoes came in a separate bowl. We also had the desserts which were very nice, a sticky toffee pudding and a strawberry roulade. Overall it was a very nice meal, although a little more pricey than others on the island. Because of its very attractive setting and lovely gardens would be an ideal place for a special celebration, but perhaps not so much a casual Sunday lunch or dinner. We will undoubtedly return at some point in the future.

Have had quite a few meals at the Consort, we always try and make a visit when we are on the island and have never been disappointed with either the food or service. This visit we decided to take some friends and it was on a voucher day so very busy. Restaurant full on arrival but drinks served at the bar and seated within 10 minutes. Considering how busy it was we waited only 15 minutes for our starter with the remaining courses following promptly. The food was well presented and taste did not disappoint! The staff were clearly very busy but still friendly and prompt with table service and the head chef even came out and spoke to diners at the end of their meal. Prices were reasonable considering the location and the venue itself beautifully decorated. We will definitely continue to visit here and keep it on our top 5 list of restaurants!

Visted this place with high hopes of a delicious meal.Service was friendly but slow.Meal was delivered without potatoes about 15 minutes after the first part had been delivered they appeared. This hadn't been explained so wasn't expecting any potatoes and had eaten most of the dinner by then. The food was nothing special and rather over cooked. The place was clean but not comfortable as it felt stuffy and unwelcoming.Staff seemed to stand about with little to do and many looked like they needed to pin their hair up and iron there uniform.I would not return here again, although I must add the setting of the restaraunt was beautiful.

We had Sunday lunch here today using a deal with TPIW. We'd always fancied going here but actually thought they weren't open for non residents and that it was mainly used for weddings, so was pleased to see that it is open to all.The service we received was excellent & attentive but without being intrusive. The food was outstanding, bread was freshly baked so was nice & warm and the main course of Slow Roasted Brisket of Beef was yummy - roast potatoes were beautifully crisp on the outside and fluffy on the inside, just as they should be and with the meat lovely & tender. Pud was also very enjoyable. The only small thing I would say is that when we arrived, it was tricky to know exactly where to go as there weren't any signs (that we could see) pointing you to the restaurant or reception (once inside). Maybe some better signage would be useful. But it hasn't stopped us from wanting to go back and we will definitely be making a return sometime.

We went for a meal here with a friend who was staying over, the meal was excellent. The starters were lovely and the main courses excellent, we also had a couple of bottles of house red wine, reasonable but not spectacular but reasonably priced for eating out in a quality restaurant. One observation this is more for couples than families great for a wedding anniversary valentines etc, this is our second visit this year and we will be back again.

We have been a neighbours of Albert Cottage for many years and have never been through the front door until April 19th.The welcome as you enter is very friendly and the staff thereafter very polite and attentive. We were shown through to the bar, offered a drink and given the menu to peruse. Your order is taken in the bar at your leisure. Three courses with a fair choice for each at £20 per head. Bottle of house wine £18. The bar is comfortable but it all seems new and lacks the character you expect from Prince Alberts country cottage. The restaurant is very nice, neat, clean and tidy but again lacks the certain something, that wow factor, in short it's boring. The food though is real value for money, very tasty and plenty of it. We thought the coffee should have been included. The table service is as good as you would get at any top class establishment. In summary, great service, food and value. Little atmosphere. Would we go again, yes, for the good service that makes you feel that little bit special.Thank you Albert Cottage, Consort Restaurant for a pleasant evening.
