Chip Ahoy in Isle of Wight

After reopening again in 2023 after its closure in 2022 everything seemed to be going well until late in 2023 when despite not having any information that it had closed, it shut one night never to reopen. No notices in the windows. No announcement like last time to tell their loyal customers that they'd decided to close down. And now it seems it HAS closed down & is being turned into flats! Well, there's a lot of unhappy people from over the last 30 years who would have liked to have been told 😔 Bad form Chip Ahoy....

Used to be our regular stop in Cowes for chips. £15.00 for 2 battered sausages and 3 chips (portions have definitely got smaller). Had a few uncooked chips but worse thing was the uncooked battered sausage the batter was very dry and the inside pink. Returned and was informed that they probed them so should be cooked. only got the sausages refunded.

Lovely fish tank and chips can't beat it I would recommend anybody to go back there as they're under new management

Weekly treat! Deep fried chicken leg and chips! A dish that is very hard to find and should never be confused with a well known international chain

Chips undercooked and soggy needed at least another 5 minutes. Curry sauce inedible - watery and flavourless. Bap was hard with no butter. Very disappointing.

If you like cold fish and chips prepared by fresh-faced teenagers, this is the place for you. If not, best take your custom elsewhere.

Visited at opening time The staff wouldn’t let me in until dead on half 4 dispite it raining Once the teenage staff begrudgingly opened up I was served fish and chips fish was nice but The chips were inedible and tasted like they were reheated leftovers certainly not freshly cooked like I would expect at opening time I messaged via Facebook to complain They said they were sorry and that the chips were not reheated and that the would refund the chips Went back and was begrudgingly handed a refund For just the chips - no offer if replacement food Not impressed with service or food so won’t be back I’m afraid

Great value, their prices are almost half the price at Corries chip shop in the town centre. Never been disappointed with the food or service.

I was in Cowes with my friends last week staying not far from this Fish & Chips place. One night, we decided to get a take away so we got there at 8.22 pm only to get told that there was nothing left even though the place was supposed to be open until 9 pm!!! Surely if the place is open, then they should serve the customers. I am sure the staff could not be bothered to cook anything fresh just wanted to get rid of what they had prepared earlier. I suggest for customer's benefit, they should advertise what time the last order is!!!

We had driven past this takeaway and seen the queues outside so thought we should give it a try. Popped in just after 7pm and only two other customers in front which was a surprise. Ordered sausage and chips to take away as it was a lovely evening in Cowes. The food was piping hot which was encouraging. Drove a couple of minutes to the seafront to enjoy our food. Oh dear. Very undercooked chips that were very soggy (couldn’t pick them up with a chip fork) and not very nice at all! Looks like a few extra minutes cooking was needed. Sausage was ok but again, very soggy and no snap to the casing. Overall this was very disappointing and sadly we won’t be trying Chips Ahoy again anytime soon. Come on Chips Ahoy - this is pretty simple stuff! Surely you can chips properly? 🤷‍♂️

Great to be back in Cowes and wonderful to find Chip Ahoy has reopened. We just had fabulous fish&chips and fishcakes&chips. We had the small portions but any bigger and we’d need larger plates! Lovely food and you certainly get your money’s worth!

We always used this chip shop until it closed a few months ago, recently it re-opened and we couldn't wait to get our fish and chips. The fist meal we had was not brilliant but tonight we thought we'd give then the benefit of the doubt and tried again. The food was cold and inedible with half cooked chips. Very disappointed

This shop had a selection of fish to choose from. I had the haddock and it was excellent. Good mushy peas, fresh cooked chips.

These people can't cook chips to save their life. I have given this place quite a few chances now and every time I have been disappointed with their chips. They were hard and undercooked, not soft like chips should be. Fish was satisfactory even if it was quite greasy.

We were looking for fish and chips to take away and we just happen to find this little delight . The fish was cooked to order we had four cooked ( three haddock and one cod ) and all were absolutely lovely as were the chips. Large portion was enough for four adults.

Having bought 2 small packs of chips. I watched the man serving make up the two packets of chips. Thinking they were for a previous customer. I had no issues, until I realised they were mine! They sat there for over 5 minutes. Of course when I question him as to why they were not given to me, it was because they would be too hot! I was told to put them in a microwave! Really!!! Not the reason why I went there! I therefore highly recommend Corries Cabin. The last time I had Corries chips they were hot and firm as opposed to cold and soggy!

We are staying on the Isle of Wight and wanted to have some takeaway fish and chips. I searched for the best Fish and Chip shops in Cowes and Chip Ahoy was recommended. Believe me when I say we were not disappointed. The batter on the fish was really light and crispy and the chips were cooked to perfection. I would thoroughly recommend this shop to anyone looking for decent fish and chips

Chips cooked to perfection. Veggie burger full of flavour, salad and nice buns used. Always busy but never a long wait to be served. Good value and very pleasant happy staff.

We had really lovely fish and chips from here, had to wait as it was really busy but well worth the wait!!

Whilst on holiday just down the road, the entire family decided on a whim that we wanted a fish-and-chip supper. This place did an amazingly good job of not only coping with a thirty-portion mixed order with no advance notice at all, but they did it with a smile, provided very sensible packaging for free, and chucked in some free condiments. And perhaps most importantly it was all – everything – piping hot, and absolutely top quality; and great value. Well done, Chip Ahoy!

All the fish was freshly prepared and cooked to order. Batter crispy and light. Chips big portions not greasy and tasty.

Estabamos alquilando en Marinus y en realidad todo el camino a esta tienda cuando había otros más, sobre la base de los comentarios! No nos decepcionó. . .Excelente pescado fresco, patatas fritas bien, sabrosas salchichas.Había que esperar un poco para el pescado, que era una buena señal, ya que obviamente era recién cocinado. El servicio era alegre y amable y muy eficiente. Sin duda, uno al que volver. . .

Alojarse en camping cerca y habiendo encontrado más cercana en navegador chippy conseguir fichas fuimos a acompañar la comida prepara en caravana.Pedir 2 porciones grandes de patatas fritas, la persona que sirve cuestionó si realmente necesitaba 2 grandes porciones eran suficientes para 4 raciones.Así que regresé con sólo una gran porción de patatas fritas muy bien cocinado. El único problema fue que había demasiados para nosotros tres.Pequeño y encantador, lástima que de "fish and chips" de la forma de lograr más pasando el comercio.

Llamé en un busto de Sábado para alimentar a los niños. El personal era muy amable y acogedor, interactuando con los niños.

I have tried all the other fish and chip shops in Cowes and this is the best. Staff are welcoming and friendly and service is good.

Compramos comida para mí y para los niños y al comer en casa encontré 2 pelos en mi salchicha maltratada y mi hijo encontré uno en su maltratada cod. Propietario negó que compré, desde allí cuando llamé para quejarme. Vamos a la cabaña corries en la High Street en el futuro!

I feel incredibly lucky to have this place literally over the road from my home. Chips are generously portioned and always cooked to perfection. Fish melts in the mouth and the batter never tastes greasy. There is a wide choice of fish, pies, vegetarian and...

Fantástico pequeño chips a 5 minutos a pie de la calle alta. La pecials' son perfectos si quieres una pequeña, una buena comida de precio. Muy recomendado.

We stayed at Cowes in September and we decided to have Fish & Chips from a chippy. We had tried other chip shops in Cowes in the past but found they were not very good value for the money. So this time we decided to try Chip Ahoy we were not disappointed. They were very tasty, good portions and tremendous value for money. Would highly recommend and will definitely use again on our next holiday in Cowes

Brilliant fish and chips best I've ever Hadith a shame that there is no seating as I think it would be very successful can not say how great their fish is please try you won't be disappointed.

This is our local fish and chip shop. Great tasting fish, kids love the burgers and the chips are really good!! Staff are friendly and the service is quick .... what more could you ask for!

We bought a variety of food there today. All I can say was the chips were horrible, soggy and bruised, probably the worst chip shop chips I've eaten. I found a hair in amidst my chips, which put me right off and threw the rest in the bin.

This is a fab little fish and chip takeaway, by far the best on the island. Not only is their fish fresh and chips always cooked perfectly, but the portions are generous and there is no competition in price anywhere else. I travel from Ventnor and it's still cheaper than my terribly greasy local!

Fresh fish and chips. All tastes nice and its outside of the main high street so it's a lot cheaper price than the chip shops in the town. The staff are friendly and be warned a large chips is enough for at least three people.

one of my two favourite fish & chips on the island. never had a bad experience here and would highly recommend.

Always enjoy our chips from here . One very happy chap serving Sunday evenings always asks about our day. Just wish chips was same price as mainland

We had fish and chips from here on the last night of our holiday and found it to be good. We had a small cod and chips and an extra piece of fish - this was very good value, as there were plenty of chips for two. The fish was moist and flakey, in a nice crisp batter and the chips couldn't be faulted.

If you're looking for quality and good old fashioned value for money, then go no further. The only fish and chip shop in Cowes I would recommend.

This is the only chip shop on the island that can make perfect potato scollops. True you have to call ahead to order them but they are out of this world.
