This is another example of a business that it does exactly what it says on the packet coupled with a friendly, efficient team and an amazing kitchen. It is predominately a coaching hotel and a very successful one too. Our last night at the Shanklin Beach Hotel it was full with 3 coach loads and several independent couples (including us). The hotel offered dinner, bed & breakfast. The dinner menu offered 3 courses with 3 choices per course. The same applied for breakfast, including a Full English, plus self service cereals, fruit juices, tea & coffee. They must have invested in some impressive equipment in the kitchen as, within 5 minutes of ordering breakfast or dinner, is was delivered to the table tasting freshly cooked. The room was a good size with an on-suit with shower, TV, wardrobe. tea & coffee making set. Not luxurious but clean, with comfortable beds. It has a well stocked bar and it's own car park behind the hotel but you do need to register your registration number with reception. Whether coaching or independently exploring this interesting little island, if it includes the Shanklin Beach Hotel you will enjoy your stay.

Stayed at this hotel for 4 day's with caledonian travel, hotel itself is average, rooms could do with a spruce up quite run down but a very comfy bed. Food was nice with 3 choices of each 3 course meal & all food was very nice & tasty think the gammon I had one night was the best I'd ever had & all flavours of soup a 👍staff alway's so pleasant & eager to please, nothing was any trouble for them they definitely deserve 5 stars!!! Thankyou! Good location as lift on the front takes you into town centre with only a small walk to bus station etc! Would I stay in this hotel again, I'm afraid not! But move all the staff to better facilities or spend some money for their sakes on doing up what could be a spectacular hotel, they alone deserve that. I know the price we pay on a coach trip is a bargain with all extras included but please give this hotel the love it needs to be great once again.

Very poor hotel for disabled guests. On a fire alarm, which went off very early Thursday morning the fire evacuation procedures are inadequate and need updating as left my disabled friend in room on first floor. Reported to reception who said "not their problem as didn't do the room allocations". An accessible room was booked but not allocated. Hotel was fully booked on arrival so couldn't change room. There is no evacuation slide to carry disabled guests downstairs and if not present when name called st the assembly point you are left as considered out of the hotel. The staircase had a dirty duster left on it. Everywhere in need of decorating. Some furniture worn and torn. Food choice on menu very limited. They said "they're on a budget". One vegetable with dinner. No fruits or yoghurt at breakfast it's very portion controlled.

Stayed here for three nights as part of a coach group. Room upgraded to sea view for minimal extra cost. Room comfortable, clean and warm. Maid service of a high standard daily. Shower very good. No complaints with room. Breakfast and dinner waiter service. Breakfast very good. Three course dinners varied, but three choices for all courses. No real complaints with food. Dining room could do with a little upgrade though. Four drinks each day, included. Branded spirits and cider. Upgrades to drinks available at extra cost. No complaints with drinks. Staff all very good, particularly Ray in the dining room. So quick, polite and efficient. For what we paid for the trip, excellent value.

We booked it last minute on a booking site so it only cost £78, it had free parking which was a bonus, the halls and rooms are dated, but they were clean nice clean bedding and towels shower was hot, teacups and kettle clean, we slept lovely, fan in room but with window open could here the sea splashing against the shore, was lovely. Location right on seafront but very peaceful at night. There was a coach party of people staying in hotel so we played bingo and then there was a singer on for rest of night, not sure if this was normal or just because of the large coach party, but we enjoyed that and drinks reasonable, if you want breakfast you need to let them know by 9pm night before it was either £8 or £9 can't remember, we did not take it up as we had to vacate rooms at 10am, so we had breakfast a bit later in a cafe next door very nice. But all in all a good stay, great location and views nice staff, reasonable prices and clean rooms.

Stayed at this hotel for 6 nights whilst on a coach trip. Read the reviews prior to booking so no huge surprises other than the fact that the hotel needs an overhaul are severely underplayed. The paint is peeling off the walls which are painted in an array of colours (?what was available) . The layout is outdated and like a rabbit warren with various stair ways. We made the mistake of paying extra for a sea view room with balcony. As we were expected to et breakfast between 8-9 and be on coach for 9.30 there was limited time to sit out for a cuppa. The smell of folks ciggies wafting across was enough to deter us from even doing this. Up to you if you want to spend £100pp more. Only one bedside table, no usb ports anywhere, TV cable through window , tiniest bathroom considering overall size of room. We asked for a double room but got a triple. Others were commenting that their party had been split as no triples available...The place was surface clean but not sure last time skirting was dusted/washed etc. The meals were edible but bland and menu dated. We chose to eat out at pub along the way a couple of nights as struggled to select from choices available. The bacon/sausage baps on leaving day were grand and maybe should have been offered everyday. All staff we came into contact with were polite, friendly and accommodating. Lots of youngsters learning the ropes. We didn't use the concert room but could hear the acts from the bar. All sounded ok. I guess we may be spoilt as we have a wonderful coast minutes away and therefore we were not blown away with Shanklin prom. Its tired/dated, infact, most of the Isle of Wight is dated and we were, in the main, underwhelmed. We are keen travellers and love both domestic and world wide stays. For the money we paid for this coach trip, stay and trips out (minus the upgrade) It was VFM but I was horrified at the prices on a very popular hotel booking site!! Eye watering!! Make sure you can manage your expectations before you book.

The Hotel rooms are very dated, the bathroom tiny, shower next to no power and would not turn of even when tightend right up in the end laid in shower , toilet not flushing everything out of toilet pot even after maintainance was supposed to fix, but on the good side room kept very clean, all the staff where exceptional so helpful espescially young Eddy and Raymond in restaraunt, the food was great and very tasty and all homemade. The entertainment was very good each night, the bar was well stocked and well priced. If you can put up with room it's well worth a visit.

We found the Shanklin Beach Hotel a very good place for a five-day holiday with National Holidays. The hotel is right on the seafront and has great views from the dining room, where we found most of the food to be plentiful and tasty. The waiters were exceptionally friendly and helpful. I'm sorry that I can't remember any names but I would like to thank the young lady who brought most of our meals and also the young man who was serving adjacent tables but also took time to talk to us. Our room was on the ground floor, which was helpful. It was not very large and had only one chair, which was a bit inconvenient. Also the shower, though it was a walk-in as we had requested, only produced tepid water. You weren't tempted to linger! The hotel is a good base for walking and for the organised excursions to Alum Bay and Osborne House.

Just returned from Caledonian coach trip and won’t be back to this hotel It is dated, food choice was not great, some staff were really helpful others downright rude. Worst thing was the room 115 which overlooked the back area with old sinks and loos it’s right next to extractor/air con unit which only went off at 3am and was very noisy and the rain last night poured down from choked gutters like a waterfall Single bed’s uncomfortable so not much sleep had this week! Good position for beach bit of a hike to town

Was here on a recent coach trip. The hotel itself is in desperate need of a renovation. The location of the hotel is brilliant, right at the beach. I did have a room at the back of the hotel, so had a view of the car park. But can imagine the view will be beautiful on the other side. The room was relatively clean, it is just old,so some things can't be helped and are not a cleanliness issue. The layout was strange, as the bathroom had a shower and toilet, but the sink was outside the bathroom, behind the door. There was no hot water at the sink, but it didn't really cause an issue. The shower took a long time to warm up and after thinking there was no hot water, it turns out, you had to turn it to the cold setting, for the hot to come out. Once I had played around with the settings and realised that, it was fine. The water was nice and hot and the water pressure was fine also. I liked that it was a handheld shower head and not fixed to the wall. The bed was quite uncomfortable and the mattress really needs changing. I think with the location where it is, it has the potential to be such a great hotel, it is just really in need of an update. The meals at the hotel were hit and miss. Some of the dishes were really nice, such as the gammon with peppercorn sauce one night, the fish pie on another night and the lemon tart was one of my favourites. Then some other dishes were a bit strange like the egg mayonnaise with chorizo that kind of came deconstructed and was an egg cut in half with Mayo on top, separate from the bread. To be fair, none of the dishes were completely inedible, some were just not as good or a bit strange. The breakfast was basic but sufficient. What really saves the hotel experience was the staff. All of the staff I interacted with be it at meal times, reception, or the bar were really friendly and helpful and they did make up for a lot of the hotel's shortcomings.

Hotel is based sea front which is lovely and on the flat for those with mobility issues. For those who do have mobility issues, contact hotel. Not ideal with stairs & lift out of service. Hotel itself is 2* however staff make it 4*! On arrival Lucy made us feel welcome from the get go! Thank u Lucy!! U can tell the whole team all work together & give 100% customer service! The staff truly make this hotel! Mattresses are a let down! Management requires to upgrade. Double was so soft (like a pancake) and could feel the springs! Chief tried to produced homely hearty meals although appreciate he/she can only work with the budget they have from management. Our meals were 2* but last evening meal was -1! Fatty lamb and feta & olive salad….joke! 🙈 Hotel needs an upgrade. On arrival, we were charged £40 for a “requested” sea view room however management reimbursed this due to not having a balcony room. Overall, would I come back, yes because of the staff! They really do make this hotel!! They are very helpful, attentive & go above & beyond but mattress’ & pillows require to be addressed to hotel quality.

What a lovely hotel! We have just returned from a 5 day Caledonian coach trip and enjoyed the whole experience. We were allocated a twin room on the first floor with a view over the beach and English Channel from our large balcony. Room was spacious, spotlessly clean with very comfortable beds. The room was serviced every day by a 4 strong team of chambermaids -excellent. Breakfast & evening meals were waiter service and Marc, Philip & Raymond looked after us very well. Our trip included a drinks package of 4 free drinks per person per day and was a great saving. Sy behind the bar was very friendly & helpful. Nightly entertainment was very good also. A very enjoyable stay. I would recommend this hotel to anyone.

Writing this review on behalf of my in-laws. What an awful experience. We went on a coach trip with Caledonian travel. The travel staff were great but the hotel was terrible. We were in Room 125 - very poor condition, dirty bathroom (mould in shower), thermostat was broken on radiator and room was red hot. The food was disgusting, verging on inedible. Extremely poor quality, always cold, bad cooking. Every meal was terrible. Even the toast for breakfast was burnt. Caledonian are really letting their customers down putting them in this hotel. We wouldn’t come back here if we were paid. I’d recommend avoiding!

Went for Christmas as part of a super deal with Caledonian Travel. Good parts. Staff excellent. Couldn’t do enough for you. Room was clean. No mould in The bathroom though the shower head was hanging by a thread. Bad parts. Check in was a shambles, though close to 90 people turned up at the same time and there was only ONE member of staff to check us all in. The food….the least said the better. It was under or over cooked. The Christmas dinner was half cooked and far too much of it. It seemed penny pinching on food the rest of the week and they threw the food at you on Christmas Day. There was a huge amount that was sent back. There was however mulled wine and ONE mince pie to compensate you. It all seemed such a stingy set up. If I had paid full price for this holiday I would have furious at the level of catering. As it is I won’t be visiting the Shanklin Beach hotel again.

From making the booking via one of the duty managers (Alex) to the day, the staff where helpful and attentive, nothing was too much trouble. The bar was open for the parents to ease the pain of having many loud children enjoying their party. We booked an entertainer AJ Isle of Wight Entertainer who commented that the venue was perfect for one of his UV Discos. We stayed at this hotel with friends for 6 nights as part of our coach trip. We had a very pleasant holiday. The hotel has a fantastic view over the bay, the staff are friendly, our rooms were clean and serviced daily , bar prices were good. The food was ok and entertainment generally ok. As a group we could not find any particularly bad points worthy of criticism, nor could we say that it has any really good points. I.e it is overall "OK" hence my average scoring. However if you consider its star rating it is very good value, and we all would definitely use it again.

Terrible hotel, do not visit this place! Dirty, single rooms are like prison cells, we brought my elderly mum who had a single room and who paid a supplement. Very shabby furniture, curtains hanging down, size of a shoebox, bathroom so small could not sit on toilet and shut the door, not drawer space, very shabby indeed. Asked to move rooms, told no more room and manager said he was paid peanuts! Whole hotel very shabby, dirty and old fashioned. Husband had to stand on a chair to put curtains up for my mum! Not his job. This was a holiday not a prison sentence. As worked in prison I can guarantee prisoners get better accommodation and food!! Do not waste your money. Wallpaper hanging off, exposed gripper on carpet..ouch! Filthy doors.

Stayed as part of a coach trip. First the bad points. Rooms are very dated. Our room was fairly clean however others in the party reported theirs were not. The shower head didn't point into the bath so had to take it off to clean myself. The bathroom window was against the shower and only had half frosted glass, giving people in the hotel next door a full view! Food was OK, not great but not bad either. Now the good points. Restaurant team need better training on food safety standards. Staff were brilliant, so friendly and welcoming, they must know the product they're working with is isn't great but make up for it with friendly smiles and pleasant chat. Happy hour is from 6-8pm in the bar which is well stocked and a great view of the sea. Fantastic location, could be so much more than what it is.

We visited this hotel during a coach holiday with Caladonian travel , on arrival reception was nice and quick, rooms are a little difficult to find. Good location right on the sea front but, a little difficult to get to Sandown or further on a bus if you have problems with walking. The rooms are basic , with a strange thing, your washing sink is outside your bathroom? And in your bedroom? Never seen this before. Food is not very good, breakfast as all meals are waiter’s service, sometimes very slow because they tend to serve the guests who have time to sit and chat to them! Not good. other guests have to wait. So breakfast was ok, full English or what you want or don’t want on your plate. Main meal which you have to pre order at breakfast is terrible, not much of a choice, and when we complained about our meal, stew and dumplings which was so salty that we could not eat it, we where told, sorry but we have new supplies! What ! And that was the end of it, no alternative. Beds i and other guests complained about the mattress being so uncomfortable, like laying on a bed full of springs with a hard board underneath. After saying that unless I got a better mattress, I would sleep on a very comfortable couch in the bar, I finally got it changed, another guest took two days to get hers changed. Would I go back, Never unless they get rid of the homeless guests who totally destroys a room during the night and cause panic to the guests and cause £3 to 4 thousands of ponds damage! Give it a miss

Stopped by for afternoon drinks and it was fairly quiet in the Bar, so much so that one has to wonder why there was Pop Music blaring out ?, presumably to just please the Barmaids. It was okay for a pint or two as it’s that large you can find a quieter corner, and I image in the height of summer that in the evenings the place would be really heaving.Unfortunately for an old fella like myself, it was eventually too loud and I left to find a quieter venue.

We had a snack here one evening from a very limited menu. However the food itself was tasty and the service reasonable. However we did call in to see the entertainment which was very average. I am sure Shanklin could do better.

Hotel was very dated and could definitely do with new mattresses !! It was the most uncomfortable bed ever ! But the staff were lovely, especially the cleaners. Tea coffee in rooms which was always topped up. Bathroom clean. Car park around the back. Never had food in the hotel so cannot comment.

We enjoyed our two night stay here in Mid - November. We had a large balcony room with en - suite (tight toilet space for bigger person) and it was Fab! Even though it was a bit chilly, morning coffee on the sunny balcony was a delight, as was going to sleep to the sound of the waves....

Just got back from a two night stay at this hotel. Firstly, this hotel is easy to find, the car park however wasn't so easy as it wasn't sign posted so we were going back and fourth trying to find it but eventually we did! When we booked the hotel the website said no need to pre book parking spaces so we thought great it must have a big car park then but no it really doesn't it was a squeeze to find a space and when we did we noticed that everywhere was sign posted saying do not park so we were very confused by this decided to park and go in and ask reception got to reception and there was a couple in front of us complaining about something - not a good start! Got to the guy on reception and he didn't ask us anything just a hello and sorry it's been a long busy weekend... So I said we have parked around the back is this okay as we saw the signs and he said yes park there it's fine we were a bit wary of this. We then continued to say that we have booked a room here and he didn't ask for any reference number just a last name but the thing is there were invoices and room keys left on the hotel desk so we could of literally just walked in off the street had a little look at the desk when he wasn't there (the desk was unmanned a lot) got a name and there you go free room! But anyway he gave us our key and quickly gave us directions to our room we just heard a lot of right and lefts and just decided we would find it by ourselves little did we know we would have to go through the bar area to get to our room it's a very strange set up we eventually found our room and the first thing I noticed was how hot the room was the windows were open but as we had a side view of another building out the window no air was coming in! The room itself was pretty clean no complaints there, the bed was made nicely and was clean no hairs or dust anywhere which is a big thing for me! We had tea and coffee making facilities but I will just mention they only provide white sugar so if you like brown or sweeteners I would bring your own to save time going to find someone! Room is very basic no phone, pen & paper or tissue boxes little touches like that but that was fine. The bathroom was very very tiny I can't call it a bathroom it was a small ensuite with a cubicle shower. This was all clean but the light above the mirror didn't turn on and the shower made an awful noise when on but we didn't complain because we just couldn't be bothered with the hassle.

No volvería.

We spent the Bank Holiday Weekend at the Shanklin Beach Hotel and was surprised to find that it was a 2 Star and not 3+Star as advertised with UK Breakaways.Having said that despite having a room facing the car park at the rear, which was free and useful, the room was clean and tidy and adequate although not very sound resistant. Tea and coffee was provided in the room although hairdryers were available if asked for at reception. The meals were o/k particularly the breakfast with cereal and full English provided, if required. No fruit provided with the breakfast and one had to get your own coffee/tea which really was no problem.Evening meals were provided all on one plate which meant you had to have whatever vegetables they wish to provide. This clearly must be changed as I particularly hate brussel sprouts and cauliflower which were provided each day on my plate. An entertainer was singing each evening which was pleasant and there was a well provided bar lounge with a pool table if required. The hotel is situated facing the beach with a nice promenade to stroll along after the evening meal but to get to the town there is a very steep hill where elderly people would struggle to climb. All in all we had a pleasant weekend in what is no more than a 2Star hotel

Hotel not very clean downstairs but although small bedroom fairly clean. Staff need more training on customer service and customer care. No concideration for the elderly. I asked for a ground floor room and got 2nd floor and they refused to move me. I took my own teapot which was removed from my room and put in the kitchen no apology given when I got it back this was most unacceptable. Worst hotel I've ever stayed in as felt very unwelcome.

I was served by a lovely lady saturday evening, soooo helpful, i wanted chips and a veggie burger, and she was honest and told me the chips are cooked in beef fat, i wouldnt have been impressed if i had eaten any after being a vegetarian for 42 years! Soooo much appreciated, i love honesty too, a big believer in it, also they did me some fries cooked using something else. Thankyou all again. Top notch service, after driving around what seemed like forever to try and park near, so all your kindness was very welcome. 😁

My wife and I were staying at Whitecliff bay holiday park and fancied fish and chips, we chose this chippy as it was the nearest to us, what a mistake that was. We got refried chips that were inedible, they went in the bin. The fish was ok, not much taste though, at £15 for 2 small portions of just about edible fish we fllelt well and truly ripped off.
