I was served by a lovely lady saturday evening, soooo helpful, i wanted chips and a veggie burger, and she was honest and told me the chips are cooked in beef fat, i wouldnt have been impressed if i had eaten any after being a vegetarian for 42 years! Soooo much appreciated, i love honesty too, a big believer in it, also they did me some fries cooked using something else. Thankyou all again. Top notch service, after driving around what seemed like forever to try and park near, so all your kindness was very welcome. 😁

DONT GO TO THIS PLACE DIRTY OIL.NEEDS CHANGING PAID £35 FOR 3 BURGERS AND CHIPS AND 2 POTATO SCALLOPS.CHIPS WERE VERY GREASY AND TASTELESS BURGERS AND POT SCALLOPS TASTED LIKE DIRTY FAT. THROUGH IT ALL IN BIN WASTE OF MONEY

Went in to treat myself after a tough day of work. Spent over £12 just in food for myself so it’s not exactly cheap and it’s definitely not worth the money. They forgot to put half my order in the bag, they put vinegar on the chips when I specified not to (which isn’t a huge deal to me, I just find vinegar quite repulsive so it ruined the chips for me but would’ve been a different story if somebody had an allergy) and not only that but the food was disgusting. How somewhere can mess up chicken nuggets and chips I do not know.

Had to repeat my telephone order 3 times to two different people and then when I went to collect, the order was all wrong! It seems nobody knows what they are doing, I am wondering if it is under new ownership! Food was rubbish to!

Excellent food & moderately priced.Fish freshly cooked to order.Very moist and tasty not dry like some other establishments.It's not always the quantity that counts-it's the quality and that's seems to mean a lot to the onwers of this take away-even though you still recieve ample portions.It was very worth the wait (just over 5mins.) for my food but you can also order in advance if you prefer.Excellent service from the staff too.Will definitely be back here when I'm next in the area.

Friendly, fast and helpful service enabled us to catch our ferry on time. The food was hot, tasty and big portions - good value for money. I had a Vege burger with salad and chips, whilst my husband chose Cod and chips.

Love this chippy and recommend it to everyone. I've visited it for four years now, ever since I discovered their amazing Yorkshire fish cakes. This year, they may have some staffing problems as I had to wait 15 minutes despite not that many people being ahead of me; however, the wait was well worthwhile, and I'll be going back this week (probably more than once) before I leave. I just wish they were open more days, then I wouldn't have to wait until Thursday!

Da viele Locals hier eingekauft haben, musste ich ihn auch ausprobieren Pro: - Extrem nettes Personal - Sehr leckere Fish & Chips - Fish wird ganz frisch frittiert - Portionsgröße angemessen und nicht übergroß Con: - Ambiente schlecht und nicht einladend - Leider kein Platz um dort zu Essen - Verpackung ist eher für zu Hause essen gedacht, eher schlecht am Strand zu verzehren (nur in Papier eingewickelt)

Waited for chips was there 10 mins before closing to be told no chips they couldn't be bothered to cook more chips with an attitude like that get better staff so dissapointed last day of our holiday 👎🏻

We both had nice pie and chips. Jane had the steak pie and I had the more traditional steak and kidney. The portion size of the chips was plentiful.

Asked for a large fish to say it was tiny is an understatement the batter was soggy with dripping and disgusting. Chips were ok all though rather hard. Nice mushy peas on the up side. Won't be going back anytime soon or ever. Extremely over priced!

Ordered basically 2 portions of Fish & Chips. Paid my money, then proceeded to wait for over 40 minutes. Asked twice & informed it was ready to bag up any second, then presented with excuses about the person before me ordering various other items. After finally receiving the food it was nothing to write home about, Fish & Chips where I live in the Midlands is a lot better. Would recommend this place is avoided.

Ordered fish and chips here Saturday 31st Oct 20, the fish was fresh , cooked to perfection, chips also. We really enjoyed our meal a nice experience and we hope the business can press on through lockdown . A good local chippy is a joy. Thank you.

We have used this chippy many times over the years and I can honestly say they are the best chips we have found. Portions are huge and the chips are done to perfection. Usually I suffer from heartburn after a few chips but these did not affect me at all. Everyone in our family had something different to go with their chips and there wasnt one thing that wasnt cooked perfectly. We dont holiday on the Island as often as we would like but when we do, there is no other chip shop we will go to in future.

The best fish and chips I've had for such a long time. We went about 30 minutes before closing and it was all so fresh, piping hot and the fish was huge. Was eat out only when we were there due to C-16. Definitely recommend, you will not be disappointed. Friendly staff too. 😁

Old Skool chippy. Clean inside and staff were pleasant, had to wait a little while for my food but not too long. Food was all cooked just fine

As a visitor to the island we were recommended this chip shop, we read the reviews and decided to go and was going to eat in. The menu is not valid as the prices were wrong and the cod meal wasnt an option, the can drink prices were a rip off. The place to eat in was shabby, dark and not very inviting. The girl serving had no customer service skills, looks miserable and didnt say anything when she bought food to us and not even a thank you when we left

Only been here a couple of times but both have been good eating. Lovely fresh cod, lots of fluffy chips. The restaurant looked clean and airy, no overcrowding I never used the restaurant so cannot comment on the service but the Staff were pleasant and efficient in the take away side so I wouldn't think they were worse in the restaurant. All in a 5* experience.

Tonight we went to sandown for our tea the fish was cooked perfect the batter scrummy chips were nice. It was really big portions, it was well worth the wait. Will defo recommend also bring the family when they come to visit.

I was looking forward to trying my local chippy, following a recommendation from my partner, who enjoyed his first haddock and chips there last week. We normally go to the CodFather in Ryde always yummy and fresh. Ordered a Large Cod, Haddock and a Large Chips to share. Freshly cooked so a short wait, then off to the seafront to enjoy them. Well I am sorry to say I was disappointed. My cod and chips were oily and had a strange taste. Not good at all. Maybe it’s the cooking fat they use? My partner didn’t think they were as good as last week either, so maybe an off day? Has put me off though, we will be returning to Ryde for our weekly treat in future, where they are consistent in quality and taste. Shame I am yet to find a decent fish n chip shop in Sandown, that I would recommend.

After another chippy on the island made me feel ill I was determined to find a new one. Discovered Avenue Road on my way into Sandown. It literally is just in a row of houses. Was really busy so I took it as a sign the food would be good. Waited about ten minutes for my cod and chips which I took to the seafront to eat. Honestly it didn’t look a huge portion but it defeated me! The chips were lovely. The cod was okay but the batter wasn’t great. I will definitely make this my go to chippy when in the area again.

One of the better chippy's around (not too greasy)and decent cod but very popular meaning slightly slow service although not a serious issue. However they do not take card payments which in 2018 is astounding and means having to wander off to find a cash machine.

I was happy to wait the c.15mins for my freshly cooked order, it was delicious. Huge portions, a large chips fed 3 and the spam fritters, wow!!

This chippy was just down the road from our holiday let. We thought we would give it a try after coming back from the town. They take your order and money, then you can wait more than 30 mins to get it. It was not the best fish and chips i have had. A bit disapointing actually

called in one tea time to grab some chips to eat by the sea lol.considering they had been open half an hour according to their opening times, they didn't have any pies, and generally there was a lack of choice. we ended up having sausage and chips. they were a bit on the greasy side, and nothing to shout home about.

Best fish and chips I've had on the Isle of Wight! Crispy chips, good portion sizes and fish (cod) was high quality and cooked to perfection. It's worth coming off the seafront to buy fish and chips here, it's only a few minutes walk, plus, you can sit in and eat in their restaurant.

We used Avenue Road chippy again today for the second time tosay. Big portions, friendly service and delicious food! Nice fresh salad is placed in the burgers and the pricing is about average.

I am not a fussy eater and I genuinely can't remember the last time I threw food away. But the fat they cook stuff in here is what you could politely describe as 'an acquired taste'. By that I mean that if you enjoy the taste of dirty socks, this is the place for you. The food tasted like the fat hadn't been changed since 1974. It was truly inedible and I'm afraid to say I had to bin it because it was so foul. Such a shame! But if you like your food to be golden brown and crisp this is not the place for you.

Decided to get some chips after arriving at the Garlic farm cottage .. What a great idea too .Chips , poached Fish, pea fritter, hot dog , and of course curry sauce .. all amazing just what Chippy chips should taste like..And to top it of in my book the service was outstanding and friendly ..Highly recommend this place .

Tried The Avenue Chippy for the first time tonight and can happily say it is the best chippy I have tasted on the Isle Of Wight. Good friendly service! The cheese burger was beautiful, the chicken burger also really tasty and the chips cooked to perfection! Cannot fault them!

Always love a place that caters well for the vegetarian. They had a good selection but the battered vegetarian sausage was a defo highlight. Chips were tasty and quite plenty full. We didnt eat in but went and sat by nice to have that option.

WOW - amazing food at extremely great prices. I had a reg fish and chips (£6.20) which is a good price however the regular chip portion is more than enough for two people. The fish a nice size and skinless, I prefer it on mine but that’s a personal preference, but was cooked perfectly. I live in a couple of towns over from Sandown and takes me 10 mins to get home. The batter was still slightly crispy and chips hot! Amazing value for money and will deffo be back. Arguably the BEST fish and chips on the island and not to be passed over.

I was staying nearby and visited this chippy on two or three occasions. Eat-in is available, but I elected for take-away. The main problem here is deciding what to have from the extensive menu! I decided to be boring and have cod and chips each time with the odd sausage thrown in, and have no complaints at all. Cooked to order means a wait of a few minutes, and the result is a smile on your face.Service is efficient and friendly, and the only negative I could come up with is that their trading hours are rather limited.
