We have been visiting Puckpool Tea Gardens also known as The Old Barracks for many years. The current owners have put a lot of effort into appealing to the locals as well as tourists and they allow well behaved dogs into the café which for dog owners is a massive plus. We have never had a bad experience in all the years we have been customers and it is the owners and staff that make a real difference. They remember their regulars and make time to catch up if they are not busy. My mum used to like going in with my dad for a cuppa but sadly passed away recently. The lady owner asked after my mum as she hadn't seen her on our last few visits and was sad to hear our news. She asked if it was ok to speak to my dad and give our condolences which she did. On our walk back to the car my dad remarked how nice it was for her to notice and take the time to talk to him. It only took a few minutes out of her time but it made a huge difference to my dad.

We were peckish and originally planned to eat a burger. We changed our minds and opted for baps as they were less expensive for a snack. We weren't expecting much for £4 but OMG!!! The quality was astounding! The best sausage and bacon baps we've ever had out. Hands down. We had to tell the proprietors who were passionate about their goid which was wonderful to hear especially in our current financial climate in general. Keep up the good work and thank you 😊

Stopped whilst out for a walk. It was reallyhot out so sat inside. Bad idea as it was hotter inside than out. To add to that, it needs a really good clean. Cobwebs, spiders, grease and goodness knows what else. Staff not overly friendly, but not rude. We had breakfast pizzas. They took ages to be made, which is understandable when made from fresh, but they came out burnt ... very burnt! They were tasteless and too hard to eat in places. Won't bother again.

Called in here for pizza tea on a sunny day. Feel for this business having to deal with over zealous and deranged covid inspectors on the island who say you can get Covid by drinking alcohol on the front garden so our family had to walk through the indoor bit to get to the back. The pizza was fine though never relaxing when you have the kids in tow!

Best advice I can give is to stop selling coffee. What we had today today was very thin, a bit like filtered coffee although I know it wasn’t. Now served in paper cups . This cafe has really gone down the pan. We have been here on numerous occasions over the years but never again. We threw our coffee in the bin and walked up the road to the Shack where we had a proper coffee.

I’ve visited here a lot In the past and I am flabbergasted of how down hill this cafe has gone. It is I n a great location but it is just ruined by the lack of cooperation from the “children” running this. The first thing that was out of order was the 2 hour wait. Their was hardly anyone there. It’s a joke !! I was in the queue waiting and 2 lads came to bring their food back one was raw and one was cremated. I just don’t understand how that’s possible. Furthermore if I wanted stellas with the fellows I had to go in THEIR back garden just to have a pint. Just can’t a bloke just enjoy the sun. And if you think I’m going to contribute to their monthly salaries by buying one of their mint choc chip cornettos you must be having a laugh. In conclusion I would definitely not recommend this monstrosity of a cafe their is much better cafes near by. Don’t come here! ABSOLUTELY APPLAULING

Nice spot off the beach with nice garden. There was quite a queue but fair enough sunny bank holiday. After queueing for 15 mins I made it inside. Another 10 mins and I move on. Then I see the sign - no pizzas. Ok so I call the family sat outside and burgers all round agreed. So after another 10 mins I reach the counter and upon ordering am told “sorry no burgers” this was at 1 pmYes of course things can run out but myself and several other potential customers were very disappointed to have queued for neary 30 mins only to find there was little to order,.IF YOU RUN OUT OS SOMETHING PLEASE FIND THE TIME TO PUT A NOTE ON THE MENU BOARD OUTSIDE - QUEUEING FOR AGES ONLY TO FIND MOST THINGS ARE UNAVAILABLE IS NOT THE BEST RECIPE WHEN YOU HAVE HUNGRY KIDSMOST UNPROFFESSIONAL AND AS A NEW IOW RESIDENT VERY DISSAPOINTING

This is an unpretentious family friendly place with plenty of outdoor seating on the attractive lawn opposite in a sheltered and sunny spot.We ordered two small stone-baked pizzas - crab and tarragon and the other topped with Isle of Wight blue chees, walnut and honey which was a truly inspired topping. Both were really delicious. The bill for the pizzas, 3 cappuccinos, and a sparkling water came to £24, which I thought was very reasonable for good quality food.

My husband and I live in Ryde. My husband has been enjoying a weeks holiday from work. Today being his last day of his holiday we wanted to enjoy lunch together as we dont know when we will get a chance again for a while. We both said it would be nice to come to puck pool and sit in the garden with a sandwich/baguette and a cup if coffee. Something we have always enjoyed here. We got in side and had a look at the menu. There was no sign of sandwiches but I thought perhaps they had another menu for these so I asked them if they did sandwiches. I was bluntly told no. At this point we had lost interest. As we were leaving a girl quickly said that they could make a sandwich but there was only three choices of filling. My husband didnt want to stay because as he said you cannot say no one minute and then say oh we can make a sandwich. How hard is it to make a sandwich and yet they made such a big deal out of it. Looking at their menu there was nothing on it for just a small lunch. Mucked about food nothing straight forward.

There’s not much good to say about this place... it is a building steeped in history, once being an army barracks before becoming a tea rooms in the 1920s and then back to an army building to protect the country during world war 2. The building has really been let go! I’m sure it looked better whilst there were soldiers living there!! The building deserves so much better. The staff are very slap dash, they don’t have a clue what they are doing and they get so much wrong. The hygiene isn’t very good, there’s flies everywhere and the staff have long hair which goes everywhere. We had a bacon bap and tea which was okay but nothing to write home about (link to the war there) personally I don’t think I will be back again unfortunately as it has a lovely setting and could be amazing! I wish I had the money to take it on and restore it to its former glory! I dread to think what those 1920’s families would think if they walked in today.

Ate at the Old Barracks cafe in Puckpool park yesterday. The choice of pizzas was very large and there was several burgers on the menu, there is also a children's menu and lots of extras, such as chips, onion rings and home made coleslaw. My young son wanted a Hawaian pizza, which wasn't on the menu but the waiter checked with the chef and they made one. I had a IOW blue cheese, honey and walnut pizza, which was delicious. My husband had a bacon beef burger and Cajun fries and said how delicious it was. We ate inside but there are 2 gardens with plenty of outside seating. There is a good playpark , which my kids loved with play equipment from toddlers upto tweenies, a tennis court and a mini golf, all next to the Barracks cafe. No allergy guide, and very poor hygiene and service, avoid! As a family with children; 2 have severe allergies we were upset to not be able to buy ice creams due to lazy and backwards approach to allergies, having then noticed the hygiene approaches (or lack of) we were glad we didn’t!We found the lady ‘Marlene’ (well that’s what the receipt said you name was) who served us rude and offensive. She made my children cry, how crap to be told you can’t have an ice cream because...... ‘we’ve just had a delivery of candy floss and haven’t updated it’ we weren’t even asking about the candy floss, so no idea what that had to do with it. Insensitive and inconsiderate, you could have at least apologised and been helpful, instead you discriminated against my children and made them feel like freaks.Seeing as 10% of the U.K. population have allergies you’d of thought that it would make commercial sense to ensure you have an up-to date and readily accessible allergy guide - after all the food standards agency make it a legal obligation and have free easy to download and use resources on their websites.

We stumbled upon the tea gardens on our first day on the island. "Tea garden" suggests homemade cakes and loose leaf tea to me, but this was not the case. We were hungry and didn't have time to look for another place to eat so decided to get some food to take away. We had 2 adult sausage and chips and one child portion, 2 drinks and this came to just over £20! We sat to eat in the park but it was so bad we didn't finish it, chips tasted like old oil and the sausage was the cheapest you could buy. On the plus side the service was quick and the lady who served us was lovely. Maybe the other food on offer is better judging by the reviews but our meal was the worst we have had in years and the price extortionate.

Strangely though even though we have visited IOW a few times and Puckpool Park loads of times we had never eaten in the tea rooms. Well what a mistake! We went twice during our holiday as it was so nice the first time. I had a stone baked pizza with goats cheese and pesto which was just amazing, hot fresh and home made. My oldest daughter also had a pizza and she really enjoyed it. The others had jam sandwiches. You never see that on a cafe menu and it was a very cheap welcomed choice for us as we usually fork out £50-£70 on a meal out for six of us. Hubby had a steak and chips which was very tasty. The puddings were the best bit! They have an ice cream counter so most of the kids filled their boots with that! They have homemade cakes in their display chiller, different things the two times we went. I had a scone with jam and cream, hubby had a millionaires shortbread and my oldest lad (8) had a slice of iced Victoria sponge and he practically licked the plate! Very friendly, helpful waitresses, quick service, highly recommended.

Various chairs & settees scattered around the café that truly looked life they had been salvaged from the local tip.The food, well best not dwell on that, suffice to say what appeared was sent back & a fresh alternative offered, no thank you for fear of our wellbeing.Best avoided at all costs.

The children in our family really loved this park and we cycled from Seaview to get there. The café/restaurant had scaffolding around the building, which was unfortunate, however the takeaway pizza was really good.

Went with my family and a friend to The Fawlty Towers Dining Experience here and what a hoot! Well donefor taking the trouble to organise a fun and unique evening in Winter to cheer us all up. We had a great time over a wide range age group. The 3 course meal under such chaotic conditions around the actors was really very good and plentiful...don't know how you managed it, WELL DONE!I wish other food establishments would go that extra mile to entertain us especially in these dreary dark, wet Winter nights. You truely deserve 5**** :-)

We pulled in to take a look at Puckpool Park and found the great tea rooms just by the entrance. Good selection of tea, drinkable coffee and cakes with options for light lunch, snacks and endless flavours of ice cream. Nice seating area to the back or in the extensive seating opposite. And a fun park to enjoy as well.

I popped in to Puckpool Tea Gardens to by some drinks and snacks with my children. Sadly the children wouldn't come in. The Park of the Dead photos around the cafe scared them too much. The staff were friendly and the snacks were well priced, but I won't be going back with my children.

Visited whilst on a recent holiday after reading the reviews on here. Nice location but I personally dont get the rave reviews?.Went at lunchtime on a saturday and admittidly it was fairly busy.Lenghty queue inside and no menu to look at which meant you had to queue and look at the only spare menu at the till meaning you couldnt really make a decent informed choice as you felt rushed. My daughter wanted a kids meal so i opted for a cheese sandwich for her. £2.50 for cheese and bread. No drink and no crisps or fruit included so by the time you added these on it came to a fairly pricey kids option.I ordered a hot dog and chips and my wife had a 'posh' fish finger sandwich. Some 40 minutes later my hot dog arrived minus the chips served lukewarm in a bowl a further 15 minutes later. My wifes fish finger sarnie took about an hour so she sat and ate on her own as we had finished our meals way before. The bill was around £20 by the time you added coffees and in my opinion was not great value for money.Nice outside area and park nearby so i have given an average rating based on its location. Perhaps i just made bad food choices due to being rushed at the till area so would perhaps give it another go.Get some more menus printed!!!!!!

These tea rooms were within walking distance of our holiday cottage and we ended up visiting three times. There was plenty of indoor seating but also plenty of tables outside for when the sun came out. The menu was very good, ranging from sandwiches to pies to burgers to pizzas and even a range of cakes for afters. The staff on all occasions were friendly and the food was always served quickly and never disappointed.

We had lunch here, when the weather was good, which enabled us to sit outside in the pleasant gardens. It is set in a historic building and there are many photos inside of the location in days gone by. There is a good choice on the menu, prices are very reasonable and the food we had was very nice. There is disabled parking close by and easy access to the cafe and outside seating area.

Chose this venue for a surprise Diamond Wedding Anniversary, The staff we so very helpful, nothing too much trouble and excellent value for money. The cafe was warm and comfortable, plenty of parking and easy access. We had a buffet, all the food was freshing made and topped up as we ate. The owner went out of his way to make the occasion very special. Whatever we suggested the response was " we can do that". Well done and thank you Puckpool Tea Gardens.

I always enjoy a latte and scone here and although I am not a dog owner, I do not mind that many owners have their dogs with them. The furniture is a strange eclectic mix, but there are very interesting historical photos of Puckpool Park around the walls. Whilst many Island cafes close for the winter, this one braves it out well beyond the summer season. In fact, later in the year, the cafe hosts its own "Park of the Dead" zombie-fest.

This is the place to go for the kids to let off some steam while you watch them with a cuppa and chat to a friend. Obviously if they're tots you'll need to accompany them as the play area is outside and not an indoor floor cushioned one. The cafes food has improved over the last year or so and it caters well for all age groups. It has plenty of tables inside and you can sit outside by the play area. There are toilets right next to the play area and lots of grassy banks and spaces to run around with the kids or walk through to the seaside a few minutes through the park. A great family place to go and good as a mums and children meet up point.

Ended up here by accident. Had planned to eat a 'Big Kahuna Burger', but as usual, they seemed to have shut early.Walked down to the Dell cafe, and that was doing ONLY Tapas in the evening. Poor. So, ended up at the Puckpool cafe. Wow.The kids had kids meals, with chips (£3 for chicken strips, sausage, fish finger etc). The wife and I shared a small cheese burger/chips and a medium pizza. The burger was served in one of the best rolls we've ever had. The meat was tasty, and obviously of very high quality. The pizza was amazing. Simply great. Lovely thin, homemade pizza. we opted for the BBQ chicken. Loads of chicken, and nicely seasoned with herbs. Will be going again before the end of our holiday! As someone else wrote, a hidden gem!

We enjoyed a visit to the botanical gardens & decided to stop in to their cafe /restaurant for a bite to eat I must say that the views were stunning looking out onto the gardens , we were lucky enough to get a table on the veranda where a local choir were singing & it made our day The food menu is quite limited but there were a nice selection of cakes available & lots of unusual teas too The food we did order was delicious .. but they were small portions for the price ( I must admit it was one our most expensive eats while on the isle of wight!) All in all a great setting to enjoy a cup of tea & drink but maybe wouldn’t go back for food

Fantastic! Welcomed in with a friendly smile, the ladies were lovely at all times. Hot drinks all tasty, served with a cute little biscuit on the side. I had the steak burger, which came in a toasty hot bun, with proper grated cheese on top & between the two burgers that melted beautifully. This was served with chips & salad. It all tasted so good. Highly recommend, we'll be back soon :-)
