Sunbo in Isle of Wight

Called just after opening and quoted 2 hours for delivery but arrived earlier than that which was great. Food tasty and not as greasy as some other Chinese takeaways. Read some horror stories in other reviews about missing deliveries but our experience couldn’t have been better. Restaurant called just before leaving to check our address and driver also called just before arrival to confirm. Definitely recommend and would order again.

Great takaway. Probably the best chinese takeaway on the Isle of Wight. Not a bad dish on the menu and please do try the pancake rolls.

Didnt have to wait too long. Food was acceptable and reasonably priced. Seemed busy. Always hesitant about eating at Chinese take aways that i dont know but this was good!

Best Chinese on the Island ! Pancake rolls are lovely and almost a meal in themselves ! Easy parking, friendly staff !! Recommended !

Ordered at 18:10. 2 x special rice and 1 roast duck. Told it would be ready at 19:05.. go back at 19:00. 19:15 asked what order am I waiting for. Gives me a funny look … 19:25 I ask how long. He says half way through….. 19:45 get it. Joke. Caused problems at home timings etc. too busy doing orders for deliveroo etc when the customer in front of you doesn’t exist

Great Chinese restaurant with great customer service. Very tasty food and excellent portions. What more can I say except if you are nearby give it a go.

Very disappointing. Ordered the meal at 17.45 and was advised it “should be delivered by 8”, it arrived at nearly half past! No sweet and sour sauce, pancake rolls were stodgy and tasted undercooked, chicken balls similar with shreds of chicken lost in doughy batter. The only really nice part of the meal was the prawn crackers which were delicious. Otherwise we ended up throwing half of it away. Shan’t bother again.

We’d only intended to check the menu but just couldn’t resist placing a takeaway order. The chicken foo yung was excellent and the portion of chips generous and perfectly cooked. We also ordered a lemon chicken, crispy shredded beef and an egg fried rice. All were delicious and we made a second visit, and a third, again all the dishes were excellent. If we lived here, this would be a regular haunt. Highly Recommended

This is not only the best Chinese in the west wight but in my opinion the best on the Island. Have been there many times including my 60th birthday and never been disappointed. Because it is good it is very popular so allow a bit of time u wont be disappointed. (Tip phone order though a few hours earlier before u need it!) Will miss it alot when it closes for xmas break Tim

My last review was good, unfortunately this one is not. Has there been a chef change? Our food was pretty bad. Tough beef, wrong flavours, bland and unappetising. Our veg dish was sloppy and the rest went in the bin. Tummy ache followed. Not good, that was our last visit.

On holiday having a meal with family. Ordered collection ready in 15mins. Food piping hot excellent quality. Highly recommended

This used to be a great place,friendly and looked after there customers. Shame its not like that anymore 😕 the food was always good but the place prioritises orders in size and sometimes refuses to deliver. Its pot luck what the chef says I'd recommend

A fantastic, friendly and consistently good Chinese takeaway(and always very busy!) - I travel a lot and honestly haven’t found a better one anywhere in the south of England

In my previous post about Sunbow I said that it was constantly good. Last night changed all that. Over 40 minutes late, and it had been kept warm all that time, as the delivery driver had been delayed The squid was so tough and the batter so soggy it was un eatable. The beef in oyster sauce was like shoe leather, the curry was awful. The bamboo and water chestnuts were uncooked I rang and complained and told them that we could not eat it. They refunded our money. Half an hour later we got a knock at the door and a chap told me that he had been sent to collect the food that we had complained about. I assume they thought we had complained to get a free meal, I pointed to a dish in the garden where I had put everything for the Badger to eat, and told him he could take it with him , as long as he brought the dish back. He declined my offer. I noticed that this morning neither the Badger or the fox had eaten it! Says it all really. I will never use them again

The chicken satay was very saucy, it was lovely! Also, the egg fried rice and seafood curry was brilliant. Could recommend if you’re in the area (much better than the other Chinese takeaway nearby).

We haven't had a take away from Sunbo for quite a long time. We had an excellent meal last week that was very enjoyable. We collected the meal and the wait was minimal. First Class!

First negative review I’ve ever left but won’t ever be ordering again from here… second time delivery has took too long (over 2 hours) beans on toast would have been a better option… tonight the curry sauce has been squashed all over everything in the bag

On holiday in the area and fancied a Chinese takeaway, so chose this restaurant purely by chance. It was better than our local Chinese takeaway in Brighton! Highly recommend any of their dishes with prawns which were big and plentiful. Chinese curry actually had some spice and plenty of fried rice for the money. Will definitely order from here again. Lucky locals!

Terrible. Our last night on holiday and decided to order a takeaway. Ordered at 18:40 and was told 19:20 - 40 minutes but not a problem as only staying down the road. Went to collect, paid but told it wasnt ready and had to wait outside. 10/15 mins went by, was told another 10/15 mins again and again. Finally got our food and got back to eat approx 20:15. We had ordered chicken fried rice, beef fried rice, mushroom fried rice, spare ribs and some chips. Ribs were pure grisle and the rest was just acceptable (okay to eat but nothing actually that enjoyable). Completely ruined our last evening away and definitely will not return and i wouldnt recommend giving it a try. Not worth the time, effort or money.

Staying at Totland Bay. Had a delivery. Easy to order over the phone. Arrived on time. Food was delicious.

After struggling to get any kind of takeaway whilst on our hols on IOW, this place came through! We phone ordered and were told it would be ready in an hour, it was! Lovely food, great customer service and good sized portions, would recommend!

After a horrible journey to the island we decided to order a takeaway and this place was local to where we are staying the food was excellent and delivery was on time and quick we would use again

We decided to treat ourselves to a takeaway on a Saturday night so decided to try Sunbo. My husband drove down to order as we couldn't get through on the phone. We were told it would be delivered in 45 mins to an hour. Despite numerous chases, it took TWO HOURS TO ARRIVE. By that point we were past hungry. It was a nice Chinese with good sized portions, but with such ridiculously long wait times I cant recommend ordering from here

We'd had a long day on the IOW so didn't fancy the walk to Yarmouth so decided on a takeaway. We'd been recommended this place and it didn't disappoint. Nice to have it delivered and the were pretty much on time. Good sized portions. The chicken satay was very good as was most of the rest. Would recommend.

This is more of a ‘homemade’ takeaway so a lot of dishes are authentic. Portions are good,flavour is great in the more spicy dishes. Some are a bit bland but if your ordering a fried rice they’re going to be. It’s a great addition to Totland.

The food was really great, and delivered in the time scale. The portions are really big and the food was very tasty. Highly suggest the Sweet Chilli King Prawns!

Beautiful, fresh cooked food. Take away only, highly recommend. The special fried rice is like a meal in itself with slices of beef, large prawns and vegetables. Not chopped, big slices.

This evening we treated ourselves to a takeaway from Sunbo. The staff were really friendly and helpful and gave me advice about dishes the children would like. It was quick and easy to order over the phone and our food was delivered to our door in the time we were given. The portions were very generous and the meal was really tasty. We all loved the free prawn crackers too! Thank you very much Sunbo.

Sunbo chinese takeaway-Having just telephoned to place an order how sorry I was to hear the recorded message that they are closed until further notice due to the Coronavirus. This is the best place for a chinese takeaway with my favorite being the ribs, they are fantastic. We always have such a great friendly service from the very hard working team and we can only wish them well and hope that their service will resume as normal very soon, please keep safe and we will hopefully see you again soon.

We have ordered food from Sunbo every week for many years for a family of 5. Sunbo consistently delivers the most delicious highest quality amazing fresh delicious food. Way better than most of the Restaurants in Chinatown London (we lived there for many years)! Thank you-please keep delivering during the coming corona crisis. We will support you! And I advise everyone to do so too. It is so delicious and gets the family round the table with big smiles-always order tonnes! Thank you Sunbo.

We always have Ribs they are great ! Chow Mein not so popular , a bit salty . Friendly staff and quick service

Failing Totties Fish and Chips being open, we travelled up the road to stumble upon Sunbo! It turned out to be a good option for our din dins. Very friendly lady on the till who gave us extra forks so we had extra in case of breakages. She dealt with my friends lack of Chinese cuisine knowledge very politely and patiently and guided us through the extensive menu. Good prices.

Walked in with the order prepared so ordering was quite quick. Food was ready in the normal 20 minutes (all over the world it takes 20 minutes for chinese takeaway!). We had quite a variety of food and the whole family enjoyed their dinner.

Chinese takeaway for 6. Mixed reviews. Chow mien very salty. Chilli beef wasn’t enjoyable as too chewy. Salt & pepper prawns very nice. Chilli shredded chicken average.

We had a takeaway for 6, which when we opened it up at home found that 2 of the dishes were completely wrong. What was correct was fine but have definitely had better so wouldn’t go back again

We didn't have a very good takeaway from there, it was tasteless , most of it went in the bin , we should have taken it back.

We ordered a takeaway for five and it was delivered in 20 minutes.The food was excellent, I only know of one Chinese takeaway that beats this and lucky for me it’s in my home city.If you like Chinese and are on holiday in the area plump for Sunbo.

Good portions. Good value. Recommend you try it! Good ribs. Lemon chicken had pineapple, as well as Lemon(it's ok , I like pineapple!). We over ordered on rice as quite large portions.

We use the Sunbow home delivery regularly , which says it all really.

We have been coming to the Isle of Wight for a number of years and always make time for a Sunbo’s, it never fails to impress. The service is always pleasant and the food is first rate. Our family really enjoy the menu and we hope to continue coming and enjoying a ‘Sunbo’s’ for many more years to come.

Very disappointed! Ordered a curry which I thought would be nice and spicey. How wrong I was, it was so sweet (as if someone had poured a bottle of syrup in it) it was inedible and so went straight in the bin!

Loved this little takeaway. And they delivered to our cottage where we were staying at Colwell Bay.

Food was nice, portions were decent altho we had delivery and they forgot some of our order so had to wait another 20 minutes after our first lot arrived to receive the rest which wasn’t good but overall good!

Staying locally in the area we decided to try this take-away because of the great reviews and we were not disappointed.

Very busy and so a little wait but food was tasty. Both meat and veg tried. Only criticism is giving dips for starters. Decent portions... We couldn't finish them! Would go again if visiting the Isle.

We love using this take away. The food is great and the service is second to none. They do offer delivery service but this can be an hours wait. Don't let this turn you off as it is the best Chinese in the West Wight.

This is a quick and clean takeaway with all the usual choices on a typical Chinese menu. Bonus is free parking outside. Food was nothing amazing, just a good takeaway, reasonably priced

Popped in for a Chinese and average price Good food tho.although did have to wait a while for it to arrive seems to get very busy in there always a good sign I suppose.

Freshly cooked with a nice range of flavours and spices than a lot of the other Chinese takeaways on the island. Took a while to get it after ordering (30 minutes) because it was actually cooked fresh! Would definitely order again.

Ok.. Chinese food is usually pretty similar.. mainly down to the use of ready made ingredients, sauces, frozen chips and monosodium glutamate.

Took around an hour and a half for delivery and the person on the phone "Ollie" couldn't of cared less just kept saying we had to wait more... All in all very disappointed. Won't be using again or recommending.

A must visit if you are anywhere on the West side of The Isle of Wight. Simply the BEST oriental food for miles. A good choice of food, freshly cooked to order and always fabulous. Friendly service everytime from the owners.

We had a takeout from here whilst staying at The Hermitage B&B.; The portions are very generous and the food very tasty - especially the spring rolls!!!!

We had the crispy beef, lemon chicken and fried pork last night. All tasted superb, large portions and great value. Will totally be back again, really really nice!

Ordered a delivery arrived on time food was hot and tasty just seemed to not be a lot for the £30 we spent. But all the same a lovely meal.

Don't usually get Hong Kong style Chinese so the flavours were different to what I'm used too. The food was delicious though. One of the dishes was too spicy for me to eat but my brother loved it. The BBQ ribs were close too if not the best ribs I've ever had.

Day 1. 3 hours in. we've found a slice of bread and rationed out to keep us going. Chinese new year ruined.

A local place to us, and whenever we feel like a takeaway it has to be Sumbo. Really tasty, hot food, and what's even better is that they will do half potions, which is very handy as our child won't manage a big portion.

Ordered a variety of food from Sunbo on the last evening of our holiday. Food was delivered in good time; it was very tasty and hot, and I would highly recommend to others. Reasonably priced too.

Ate from here at the end of our weeks holiday. Although a little pricey compared to our local chinese at home, the food was very well prepared, very 'clean' and not swimming in oil like some places. My only criticism was the amount of chilli in the hot dishes, I know they're supposed to have a kick but not to the extent that they do here.

Ate from here three times during recent stay in Colwell Bay.Food was superb. Better than most Chinese restaurants I have been in around Essex and East London. The crispy chilli king prawns were excellent. Not cheap for a take away, and overall order was a little more than you would pay in a similar place around London suburbs.Also very slow for food to be delivered/ready. First visit I ordered in person and waited 40 minutes from order. Second meal I pre ordered by phone and after the 10 minute walk waited over 30 minutes in the restaurant and third order we had delivered and it took 75 minutes to arrive, and I had to call twice to chase. Food is worth the wait, but the length of waits was frustrating.

The most flavoursome food I have tasted in A very long time,we are on the isleland again next year on holiday and we will defantlly be visiting Sunbo again.

I've frequented Sunbo for around six months. The service and food are always consistently very good. I will certainly be going again soon.

We ordered a takeaway from here for 10 people, the food was amazing, so tasty, not greasy at all. They delivered within the time given and order was all correct

Had a lovely take away last night, and I was late picking it up they rang me to say they would keep it for ,l told them I was run late and they stayed open for me for nearly 20 minutes thanks

Very good Chinese take away, nice food and always very quick. Can park on street if driving over to collect.

Phoned through an order which we were told would be 30 minutes. Went to collect it to be met by blank faces. Husband didn't have phone on him so came home. I called back to be told 'I do remember taking that but'... Placed the order again to be told we would have to wait 40 minutes for the food !! 3 small kids at home hungry waiting for dinner. No apology or suggestion they could rush it through to make up for THEIR mistake. I don't care how good the food is this is crap service of the highest order. We told them to forget it. Thanks for ruining our evening Sunbo - we may not be local but I will leave a review for future renters of our holiday home.

Ordered by telephone and was told the delivery would be with us in under 50 minutes. 90 minutes later the food still hadn't arrived. Phoned back to be told that the kitchen hadn't prepared it yet, but expected to get it out in the next 30 minutes, followed by around 20 minutes to actually get the order to us. Terrible service - avoid!

We got spring rolls, chow mein, chicken balls, fried rice and a vegetable dish for takeaway. The main dishes were all delicious but the chow mein was awesome. A bit of Chinese five spice in the sauce made it a stand out from the other Chinese food we have tried on the Isle of Wight. All the veg was very fresh looking and crisp. The only thing I would not order again would be the spring rolls. They were tiny and not very tasty.

Ordered our take away and they delivered it to us within 30 mins really great food and hot in fact so good we ordered a second night u must try it if ur in colwel bay

Ordered takeaway while staying in colwell bay / food arrived promptly and tasted fantastic - we order Chinese food in London all the time and it doesn't taste as good as this - the sweet and sour chicken has Chinese spice (we think) in the batter which tastes AMAZING - thank you very much!!!

We had a variety of dishes that were all freshly prepared, well cooked and tasty. I was very impressed by the takaways cleanliness. The staff were efficient and friendly. Everything you would want from a takeaway. They do also deliver I believe.

Very good service. Clean and efficient. You can see and hear the cooking going on which is nice. The service is fast but everything is well cooked and all the vegetables in my crispy beef in Szechuan sauce were so fresh and delicious and the sauce was the best I have had. Wish we had a place like this near where we live. My husband had Sunbo special Fried rice, almost too large a portion but fresh and lovely too. Next time he would have Singapore fried rice as his choice was their variation on that, but it was excellent. The place was buzzing with people (locals ..always a good sign) collecting orders and people in and out. We were so impressed and will be back next time we are over, for sure.

We had chicken chow mein. Special satay and egg fried rice . Was very tasty and cooked while we waited. Would use again and recommend .lots of locals use it so must be ok

Great, quick service but average food - we received a Chinese Calendar as a free gift which was a really nice touch!

Just got back from a week in the Isle of Wight and thoroughly enjoyed our night in with our take away meal. We had a set meal for 2 and extra salt & pepper king prawns and it was one of the nicest we have had in ages. The portions were huge and we had enough left for our lunch the next day. The only thing to grumble about was the time we waited for it, but it proves it is all freshly made and definatley worth the wait.

Great chinese take-away. Delivery as well. All of us really liked the food, so would definitely recommend if staying close by.

We are on holiday and tried this chinese out. It is only down the road from where we are staying and do a free delivery. Food is absolutely wonderful and it is reasonably priced. However, delivery took over an hour and they couldn't find our accommodation despite it being on a main road. Also, Prawn Crackers aren't free with this chinese as they are with others. P.S prices are significantly different from what is advertised on their website.

The food is excellent and a portion is enough to feed two people. We regularly have a set meal for one and add a bag of chips and we share it. Suggest ring the order through and collect 15 to 30 minutes later

Like others whilst on holiday, We are staying just around the corner and treated ourselves to a takeaway. 2 adults and 5 children all ate fro £45, we still had loads left over, we particularly enjoyed , sweet n sour chicken balls and the chicken chow mien was very good. The egg fried rice at £2.30 was also good value. Highly recommend.The only gripe was the 2 Thai dishes they offer are to be avoided, Im a big Thai fan and cook Thai a lot at home, their 2 Thai dishes bear no resemblance at all, they are bbq sauce covered deep fried flops. save yourself £10 on those two. Other than that , yes highly recommend

We have had quite a few Chinese takeaways from Sunbo, its always perfect, I have tried a very wide range of the food on offer and its difficult to know the best as its all so good. Very courteous service never had to wait to long. If I had to choose one dish it would have to be the duck and pancakes absolutely delicious!!!! we will continue to be very regular customers.

We have ordered from Sunbo a few times now and we've always been pleased with the amount and quality of the food one thing Mum particularly likes is the variety of fresh vegetables used in the food, and also the spare ribs in plum sauce are just gorgeous I dread to think how fattening they are though! I would highly recommend this Chinese over any other one in the area for value and quality

If you haven't been to Totland and tried the Sunbo Szechuan chow mein then you haven't lived. Get yourself down there and get it eat....

Took two and half hours to get to us and when it did it was dry . Still charged us delivery fee . Food has been tasty there at other times but let down big time
