Vanilla Joes

Irvine West, North Ayrshire
16/08/2017: A lovely choice of beautiful ice creams and sorbets to choose from, I've visited a few times now and it's always busy - so much so, that seating is a real problem. Needs a massive extension to be able to cope with its popularity.

Varani's Forum Cafe, Kilmarnock

Kilmarnock West and Crosshouse, East Ayrshire
10/08/2017: I grew up with the beautiful vanilla ice cream on my gran's apple pie for many years. I haven't visited for a few years as I live down south, but the great flavour is still an absolute joy. I got a vanilla for my youngest as I knew she was too small to finish it all meaning I could eat the leftovers. My son had a double cone with candyfloss and Scottish tablet. Unfortunately I never got a look in for either of those flavours. I had a double cone with Red Kola and condensed milk flavours. The taste of both brought back great memories of my childhood. The ice creams were so smooth and creamy. It's great to see this magnificent ice cream parlour still doing what it does best after all these years. It would be even better if I could get some back home.
09/08/2017: Best vanilla ice cream to have with a pudding on a Sunday. If not wanting vanilla a wide variety of flavours to choose from.

Little Rock

Ardrossan and Arran, North Ayrshire
20/08/2017: Only visited for a drink but loved the experience...Super friendly and helpful staff ..would definitely dine here ..
Prezzi onesti e vista magnifica.

Silver Spoons Tearoom

Troon, South Ayrshire
16/08/2017: Came across this lovely wee tearoom walking through Troon town center , the tables were already set with China teacups and saucers so had to have traditional tea and scones ,service was quick and place was clean ,staff very friendly would go back to sample lunch menu.
13/08/2017: This is a lovely wee cafe just off the main street. All the tables have different china and you are asked to select your china at the table you are sitting at. The menu has a good choice of dishes and is not too large, but there is something for everyone, including gluten free.I had an omelette. It was the best one I have ever tasted and as omelettes are my speciality, that is really high praise. It was so light and fluffy. There is a choice of fillings too. The others had a baked potato with different fillings. They were large and nice and dry. The plates were all cleared of food!. They also do afternoon tea or just coffee and a scone or cake if you prefer. The staff are warm and friendly and the p;rices very reasonable. Well worth a visit.

The Blair

Annick, East Ayrshire
20/08/2017: When I was growing up in Ayrshire The Blair was the place our family had special events when we could afford. I probably have not been back for around 40 years! But was back in Scotland for a family get together and The Blair was the chosen lunch venue. Warm welcome and shown straight to our table. Lots of menu choice with some good local favourites. When I was last here the place was famous for generous portions and I have to say that has not changed - take a big appetite or as for a take-home bag.Very busy establishment so don't expect long waits between courses. Good attentive service without being too pushyOne of our party had the fish pie which was very good, I could also see other very good looking fish dishes go to other tables. All the various dishes our table had were very good all be it with huge portions in a couple of cases.Would go back any time I am back in the area.
16/08/2017: Visit the Blair often and have never had a bad meal! It's a small, cosy restaurant and the menu is brilliant. Favourite is the Chicken with cheese and leek sauce. The starters are also really good.Book in advance as it's always busy! Deffo worth a visit if you've never been.

20/08/2017: We chose the Chestnuts for a family reunion and all the elements contributed to make it a memorable occasion.Booking was straightforward. On the day, everyone arrived and had a drink in the bar beforehand. The staff were very nice and attentive. In the restaurant, the atmosphere was pleasant and informal. There was a good choice of dishes on the menu. We all chose main courses and a dessert. The Eton mess was very good indeed! The prices were very acceptable and are very good value for money.Altogether, a lunch which left us all with fond memories.

Auld Raes

East Kilbride Central North, South Lanarkshire
14/08/2017: good selection of mainly scottish food, enjoyed a birthday celebration. service was very good and food was of a high standard.
12/08/2017: Took Austrian and Ukrainian friends with experience of many restaurants in Europe to Auld Raes for dinner. I had praised it to them and was worried that they might not agree but after the first course they were delighted. We had a super meal, Haggis for all as a starter and service, food and value impressed them Chef Patron Darren had a word with us after the meal and we were all very ready to say our experience was first class. The restaurant was packed and there was a great atmosphere of happy customers enjoying their food. what a treat as always!

Hogarths @ The Craigie Inn

Kyle, South Ayrshire, >100£
20/08/2017: We took a short diversion off the main road to find this lovely little restaurant. It was quiet when we arrived, but filled out nicely through the early afternoon. The cullen skink was the best my wife could remember; and both the Sunday roast and the fish supper were very nicely executed: everything was freshly finished, and with very good attention to detail. We will return!
20/08/2017: Found ourselves in the area and came here based on TripAdvisor reviews. Did not disappoint. All the food was clearly home made and everything was delicious. It was a Sunday and would definitely recommend the roast dinner. Staff were all super friendly and attentive, including the owner who took the time to chat to the customers between courses which was a lovely touch. Just be warned this may be listed as Kilmarnock but is actually in the village of Craigie a few miles out, worth hunting it down though.

The Old Pier Tearoom

Ardrossan and Arran, North Ayrshire
13/08/2017: Pleasant place to eat. Nice food not too fussy , we had a nice lunch.it was busy but we did not wait long.. the homebaking was on display , but we ate a lot for lunch we resisted the cakes.
10/08/2017: Recently have added myself to TripAdvisor so am catching up on about two years of promised reviews. This place is fantastic! Last August/September visited with our wee border collie pup, who was welcomed and spoiled! The food was sublime! Speaking as a chef it is a pleasure to encounter a tearoom that offers the same high standard of cooking as one would expect in a high end restaurant. I don't mean fancy ingredients I just mean REALLY good attention to combination and flavour! The range of fresh produce was staggering and can empathise with the owners who I understand are in work in the wee small hours to ensure the freshness and the high quality is constant. The second time we visited a large party had turned up unexpectedly for breakfast. This did not phase them one bit and although the demands of the guests seemed to be cranked up a notch for the occasion they were all served fresh cooked and bespoke breakfasts within 20 minutes, believe me this is hard to pull off solo for a party of about 15! I urge you all to visit!

The Sandwich Station

Ardrossan and Arran, North Ayrshire, <20£
20/08/2017: Our review is a bit limited here as we didn't eat any of the sandwiches... We had already eaten lunch but fancied an ice cream. Glad we stopped by - these are absolutely delicious! We were disappointed at first as there didn't seem to be any cones for sale. Maybe there are but we don't think so. Either way, we didn't ask because we spotted the pots and didn't want cone any more - these are absolutely delicious! We had the whisky one and the caramel one... a long way in front of Haagen Dazs or Ben and Jerries! The prices are high but not extortionate and it's worth it for the quality. We suspect this is reflected in the sandwiches too, what we saw on the plates of other customers looked wholesome and tasty. When we visited the lady working in the shop was friendly and helpful. We were asking questions about the ferry crossing and she gave us some good advice. Glad we stopped by.
18/08/2017: Really, really tasty sandwiches in a very scenic location - what more could you ask for? More than able to cope with a teenager who likes his sandwiches a bit plainer than the ones on the menu!
