The Sandwich Station

Ardrossan and Arran, North Ayrshire, <20£
17/11/2017: We happened upon this when our friend was showing us round her Island on our first proper visit to Arran. Loved the choice of sandwiches and breads - all freshly prepared to order. Delicious and would definitely recommend!
09/11/2017: Popped in for some pre walking fuel and I was delighted with the results - superb sourdough bread from the local bakery filled with cheese, salad and a homemade wild garlic pesto - my friend had a blue cheese and pear sandwich which was received just as well - really friendly staff and there's a wee spot outside to take in the view over Lochranza - oh and the sandwich was so big it lasted for two lunches. This will be my first stop next summer.

Hogarths @ The Craigie Inn

Kyle, South Ayrshire, >100£
08/01/2018: I recently visited here with my partner after hearing our friends rave about it. We both went for the Sunday roast and it was delicious. The menu didn't have a massive selection but the usual type of meals you would expect in a restaueamt were up for grabs. It had a cosy feel to it as well. The staff were very nice and the food was great. Very reasonable too, will definitely return.
25/12/2017: This is an amazing little place - working with the public, I realize how demanding it can be to try and please everyone, so when on Christmas day, I visited The Craigie Inn for Christmas dinner, I fully appreciated the sacrifices made by the staff to make sure others had a great time! The food was delicious and as for the staff, they are an absolute CREDIT to Fiona, nothing was too much trouble, service with a smile and quick, and it added so much to the experience! I would highly recommend a visit to this place of you are ever in the area. Brilliant! Keep it up!

Vanilla Joes

Irvine West, North Ayrshire
10/01/2018: Superb choice of ice creams in this quirky little shop. Themed flavours throughout the year and a decent choice of cakes, waffles and drinks too. A great addition to Irvine! Well worth a visit, don't have a bad word to say about it
26/12/2017: Great place, a nice place to go for a treat with the kids. Staff always friendly. It is a small place with just a handful of tables but we have always been lucky enough to get a seat.

Savoy Cafe

Ayr West, South Ayrshire
10/01/2018: Visited this week, Jan 2018. New Menu, no specials board as everything was new.I had the Tagleteli as per the menu and Elaine had the Tagleteli but instead of chicken she had Parma ham and mushrooms.Macfarlane’s have always been willing to vary the menu if they have what you want in stock.Another very enjoyable evening, it is great to have a restaurant of this quality in the centre of town with affordable prices.
08/01/2018: Called in for a coffee while shopping. We were greeted by a very pleasant waitress who was warm, friendly & efficient. Atmosphere good so was the latte & black coffee. Our third/fourth visit. Next one will be for a meal as what we saw being served looked good!Highly recommend the place.

Varani's Forum Cafe, Kilmarnock

Kilmarnock West and Crosshouse, East Ayrshire
03/01/2018: Still remains the best place in Ayrshire for ice cream. Our family have been going here for 20+ years and we still haven’t found anywhere that does such an excellent selection of ice cream. Best in Ayrshire for sure!!! Just some of the flavours available : Nutella / strawberry cheesecake / Fererro Rocher etc etc as well as all of the old favourites and sorbets too. They regularly have low fat options too
22/12/2017: If you want great ice cream then this cafe is the place to visit. Plenty of flavours to choose from. Staff are all very friendly. Parking outside the shop.

The Coffee Pot

Ardrossan and Arran, North Ayrshire
11/01/2018: Sehr gutes und reichliches Essen ,freundlicher und guter Sevice, leckere selbstgemachte Kuchen , Preis Leistung sehr gut
05/01/2018: Despite having been in Arran on many many occasions, we only stumbled upon the Coffee Pot by chance after walking up to the Glenashdale Falls and Giants Grave. Despite it being Hogmanay, and later on in the afternoon, staff offered us a very warm welcome and happily provided wonderful hot drinks and beautiful home baking. What a find - we will definitely return!!

Cafe Thyme

Ardrossan and Arran, North Ayrshire, 20-30£
18/01/2018: Popped in for a coffee but no cake as first day of being open but with views to die for will be amazing when fully up and running
18/12/2017: Full with families on a rainy autumn day - the room was too steamy and warm for our taste. Not the creamiest Cullen Skink I've had, but quite tasty. Prices what you'd expect for a touristy spot.

The Chestnuts Hotel Restaurant

Ayr West, South Ayrshire
10/01/2018: We have just enjoyed another fabulous meal at the Chestnuts. The food is always great, the staff very friendly and welcoming and we find it difficult to go anywhere else as the standards here are excellent. There is definitely something for everyone as the extensive menu caters for all. As a non meat eater I can highly recommend the vegetarian burger which is the best I have ever had. Can't wait to return,
10/01/2018: Consistently good for lunch, great menu and a lovely fire in the bar.Staff very friendly and car park in front and overflow on street

The Three Reasons

North Coast and Cumbraes, North Ayrshire
12/01/2018: Obviously a favourite local, the Three Reasons is a popular watering hole on the Largs front. It was large enough to host a gathering of 11 without us crowding the area. There was a good range of beer and they do meals but I think they finish service reasonably early. This is a great gathering point when you are organising groups.
09/01/2018: Those are my three reasons. Those mean I’ll be back again and again and again. So friendly, great area just inside the door, away from the main dining area that is accommodating and ideal for my wee dog and just a haven right at the heart of beautiful Largs. I recommend it wholeheartedly.

Small talk

Irvine West, North Ayrshire
03/12/2017: Lovely wee tearoom down at the harbour in Irvine. Popped in this morning on our way home to Arran, had the most delicious fruit scone, thank you.My friend had a bacon roll and we both had tea which came in a good sized teapot. I like to have at least a couple of cups when I’m out and this was just that.An amazing selection of home baking with some of my old favourites from years gone by ... raspberry ripple, honeymoon slice and coconut truffles to name but a few. We both picked one each to takeaway and we enjoyed it on the ferry with our cuppa. Will be back and will recommend to anyone coming over to Irvine for a days shopping.Cheers!!
08/11/2017: Fantastic place to have breakfast/lunch or just cake and coffee if you prefer. Cosy friendly wee place with lovely attentive staff and an amazing menu. Homemade soup and cakes are to die for, infact i’m ordering my xmas day dessert from here yum yumGluten free available at a small extra charge

Taj Mahal

Clydesdale East, South Lanarkshire, >100£
09/01/2018: Quite an over priced curry house compared to what were used to but the reviews were good so thought why not. My curry was bland and overly thick. I asked for chicken tikka and it tasted and looked just like chicken breast. My husbands curry wasnt much better. You dont really get your moneys worth and i wouldnt return. I can only think its rated so high because theres not much choice elsewhere in the area.
22/12/2017: Me and wife recently moved to Biggar, the Taj is now a regular for usGreat food matched by its service, Saj our waiter is a star, a try gentRecommend all, my fav is the madras, blows ya socks off
