John Carrigan's Eating House

Hamilton South, South Lanarkshire
29/07/2020: Due to Covid-19, we were both nervous to go out for dinner but the staff at Carrigan's made us feel comfortable. The service was amazing, we arrived at 19:45 for our booking and by 8:30 we were already finished our main! There are guidelines pointed out when you enter, with a one way system and only a certain amount of people allowed in at one. We had to get our temperature taken when we arrived, which again made us feel very comfortable as it was obvious that they were very cautious. Staff were very friendly. Casey was our server and she did a great job, didn't catch the name of the other girl but she was also lovely! Will definitely be returning :)
29/07/2020: Excellent service, excellent food, will be back soon.the staff are a credit to the company, great service at a difficult time.

Ayr North, South Ayrshire
24/05/2020: Have dined in numerous times and had a number of takeaways too. I have never been disappointed. The food is always fresh, light and full of flavour. The service is always impeccable. 10/10 every time.
22/03/2020: Very disorganised this group were visually impaired and there was guide dogs with them and were told to leave them where you hung your coats up pointed out this was not correct and after a conversation we were shown our table again not very practical when meals arrived they seemed not to be able to handle large group as things were a big mixed up

Taj Mahal

Clydesdale East, South Lanarkshire, >100£
12/07/2020: First visit here and well worth it. Fantastic mixed pakora cooked perfectly with no excess oil. Really enjoyed the tandoori mix which was fresh and not overspiced. Well done and looking forward to frequent visits
08/07/2020: Had yet another excellent takeaway from the Taj tonight. The chicken royal manacle was amazing as ever and the naan kept its reputation as the best I’ve tasted. All this and Abed’s cheeky banter despite the stress of the last few weeks. Thanks guys!👏👏

The BISTRO

Rutherglen Central and North, South Lanarkshire, <20£
28/03/2020: I attended Bistro a few months ago for my cousins 40th birthday dinner (just came across the Trip Advisor page, hence the late review) and was very impressed. Despite living just up the road, I had never been before. My cousin and her family, who are regulars, were full of praise for it. One member of family actually stated this is where they'd eaten the best steak they'd ever had. I went for mussels to start which were top notch; generous portion with a lovely white sauce. I can't remember the name of my main course dish (to my annoyance) but it consisted of veal strips covered in baked cheese with spaghetti, and a tomato ragu sauce. Again, the portion size was good and it tasted superb! Due to how filling the food was, and the fact my Dad kept giving me bits of garlic bread (which were really nice too), I had no room for dessert - this is genuinely a first! Although the desserts looked great, and I would love to have one another time. As the restaurant is very small, I'd recommend booking in advance. From other reviews I've read, it may be worth bearing in mind closing times, and not leaving your dinner too late; just to avoid any disappointment. We had the restaurant to ourselves, about 30 odd people, which is obviously the maximum number appropriate; any more people and it would have become overcrowded. The post dinner karaoke was a nice touch as well.Bistro is in a different league from other restaurants in the local area. I hope it continues to thrive, as it can only be a good thing for the community. I'm glad I've discovered it & would definitely like to go back at some stage.
15/03/2020: just a miserable experience all round- rude, unpleasant and unprofessional. must have been trained in the jungle.just look at the responses to the terrible reviews and decide for yourselves- absolute joke

GRO Coffee

Irvine West, North Ayrshire
10/08/2020: Heard a lot about GRO so thought I would give it a go with my family. Toasties were very nice and I liked the option that you could choose your favourite type of bread, cheese and fillings to build your sandwich to your own liking. I had the Arran smoked cheese, bacon with onion and tomato on a white bloomer bread. It was very tasty. You can also choose 2 sides to accompany your sandwich from a choice of salad, kettle chips, potato salad or coleslaw. Thoroughly enjoyed it. There is also a busy takeaway part selling mainly cakes and coffees. The choice of cakes looked excellent and the size of them was impressive. I had the mint aero slice which was very sweet and tasty, washed down with a very nice latte. Health and safety was very Covid friendly with hand wash on every table and a one way system in place. Service was friendly and efficient too. Value for money was pretty good with toasties around £8, which is probably about normal, however the quality for me was probably better than most I have tasted. I would recommend a visit, even if it’s just for a coffee and cake. The GRO is also dog friendly with a few pampered pooches present when we were there. They operate a “3 woofs and you are oot” policy. All the dogs were well behaved on my visit!
10/08/2020: Been here a few times since moving up here from West Sussex 2 years ago. Not cheap but you get the standard of meal that the price dictates.

Little Rock

Ardrossan and Arran, North Ayrshire
23/07/2020: Lovely lunch here before heading for our Alpaca trek last week. Not sure why it says closed,It was during lockdown and was refurbished. Looks lovely now and although we couldn’t eat in we sat and ate outside. Under an umbrella. Staff nice and accommodating, made my lo’s milkshake with coconut milk as she can’t do Cow’s milk. We had a southern fried chicken burger, a pulled pork wrap and scampi (which my little one loves , but they don’t do a child’s portion) so we just shared everything. Limited children’s menu like most places. (I do wish more restaurants would offer more variety for kids,?even a half portion of whatever is in the normal menu, as they aren’t all on a limited diet of chicken nuggets and like more variety.)All in all had a nice lunch, generous fillings in burgers and wraps, and would go back.
17/07/2020: Excellent food, drinks and service. Really pleased to see you getting back up and running after covid

Smiths

Bothwell and Uddingston, South Lanarkshire
21/02/2020: It was quite a while ago that myself and my family visited ' Smiths'....The restaurant itself has a cosy charm about if that you only achieve over time. It's like the warmth of all those happy bellies and moments with family and friends fills the space up. Service, food and relaxed atmosphere all well above par! Really should make another booking soon, it's been too long ......
19/02/2020: Great service. Nothing too much trouble. Enjoyed our meal. Loved the idea the menu given was priced for you to decide 2 course or 3 and price was stated. Great idea. Would return as a couple and would try lunch next time.

21/07/2020: If you enjoy excellent Indian food you must visit 3idiots in George Street, Ayr. Our 1st family meal out since lockdown and our 1st ever visit here. We’ll definitely be back. Excellent, friendly service and fantastic fresh food. Visited on Saturday night for a family birthday celebration and we all loved it...from 12 yr old to 60 yr old. Hand sanitiser at the entrance, one way system & social distancing in place between tables too. Would highly recommend to any curry lovers.

John Carrigan's Blantyre

Blantyre, South Lanarkshire
29/07/2020: Met my friend at Carrigan's, Blantyre. Felt very bold :) The staff were as they always are, friendly and efficient. All proper measures in place, sanitiser at the door, temperature checking machine too. well spaced out tables and distances observed. All felt fine. And the food as always, was just lovely. Well done to all. Glad you are back.
29/07/2020: We visited Carrigans last night for a meal, our first time dining out since lockdown began. Carrigans was always a favourite pre lockdown and we couldn't wait to get back there. The restaurant was busy, well organised and the tables spaced out which actually enhanced the experience as we weren't sitting too close to other diners. We were made to feel welcome and relaxed. It was great to have some much needed down time as a couple. The only tiny moan I have is the menu has been slightly reduced. Most won't notice as there's more than enough choice on there, however my favourite chicken enchiladas were missing. Nevertheless the food was delicious, huge portions as usual and so nice to be able to have a relaxing meal out after all these months. The staff are always friendly and professional. Nothing is too much bother despite how busy they all are. Great to see you guys open again! We will be back soon!

No 38

East Kilbride Central North, South Lanarkshire
30/07/2020: First meal out tonight since lockdown and we were not disappointed. How lovely to sit down and have an excellent meal put in front of me. The meal was first class, well presented and the tempura prawns were amazing. Shamefully a couple of tables booked and did not turn up! Why anyone would not show up to this little gem of a restaurant is beyond me. Service was great, not rushed and enjoyed catching up with my friend. Will absolutely be back and as for the No Shows, shame on you!
20/06/2020: Started using David at No 38 after they opened for takeaway meals due to covid 19 and what a treat absolutely delicious just like it would be if you were sitting in for a meal. I have ordered a few times now primarily speaking to the owner David and the service is second to none with the owner himself turning up tonight with a complimentary bottle of wine. Once they open for sit in it will definitely be my restaurant of choice. Absolutely amazing food ❤️

braidwoods

Dalry and West Kilbride, North Ayrshire
30/07/2020: What an absolute little gem this is to find. I googled ‘great places to eat on the west coast of Scotland and Braidwoods came up. First day open for them after lockdown - the staff are lovely, the food exceptional and the wine choice superb. I had the blue cheese panacotta with roasted beets and crispy parka ham - it was divine. The blue cheese was perfectly balanced with the beets and it was just so pretty!!This was followed by fillet of limousin beef fillet which was cooked to perfection with delicious vegetable accompaniments. We had a lovely conversation with our fellow diners. All together a lovely element of our week away after a long lockdown.
25/05/2020: It's still lock down, and tidying i find a recipe for a visit to Braidwoods Aug 2019.This was my 3rd visit, the first in ten years. i should explain, although I grew up in Beith I moved to London before Braidwoods started. Visits to the restaurant are linked to the infrequent returns to North Ayrshire of all the siblings. So the first time in many years we were all together so an appropriate choice of Braidwoods for dinner was made.It was an excellent evening, the food what would you would expect from a Michelin and the starring reviews written. At £57 per head for N Ayrshire this is a special occasion restaurant, from a London perspective pricing is fine, the only thing Braidwoods lacks is local competition - to challenge and improve even more. Total cost for 5, including supplements, 1 bottle of wine, soft drinks and 5 coffees - £364. A very enjoyable evening had by all.

Plato

Bothwell and Uddingston, South Lanarkshire
21/06/2020: Had a home delivery last night for 5 people. It was delivered bang on time and the quality of the food was absolutely excellent. Each of us had chosen different main courses and none were disappointed. Authentic Greek flavours, accompanied by the most delicious pitta bread I’ve ever tasted. We’ll definitely order again, and will visit once the current situation changes and the restaurant reopens.
03/06/2020: Amazing staff - friendly and helpful. Food is extremely tasty and fresh, and the portion sizes are great! I would recommend it for any occasion! I went here for my birthday and have not stopped going and ordering since It is really a treat every time! Keep up the great work!
