Ayr North, South Ayrshire
24/02/2020: Booked for 6:30 and found it busy even though it was blowing a gale outside. Very friendly staff in this small restaurant and we experienced excellent service. Starters of dim sum and vegetable and prawn pairs were tasty followed by a delicious prawn fried rice in a pineapple shell and a massaman curry, all very tasty. To fill for desserts but there looked too be some original options on the menu. Very nice.
12/02/2020: Having travelled extensively in Thailand over the years it’s great to find a local restaurant that brings Thailand to Ayr! Friendly and helpful Thai staff, consistently excellent food and the takeaway service is super fast!

Taj Mahal

Clydesdale East, South Lanarkshire, >100£
15/03/2020: This was one of the worst Indian meals I have ever had. The prawn puri came in a sweet gloopy white sauce and looked like something unmentionable. No hint of colour or flavour. The main - Chicken- came in a slightly pinker sauce that had no taste at all. I asked for it to be changed and it came back with so much curry powder that it was inedible. The rice and chapati were the best things on the table. Menu is way too large - but I suspect every dish is more or less the same with a minor twist. The waiter thought he was a comic and was advising too much - his recommendations proved to be terrible. They charged for everything apart from my starter. I note that previous critical reviews are responded to by saying they ‘have all these awards so must be doing something right.’ Nothing was right for me and whoever is judging was not eating the same food as I was that evening. Appalling food, avoid.
15/03/2020: Eating in this restaurant was a very strange experience. I’m not sure what kind of food we were being served, but it certainly wasn’t Indian as it claims to be.

The BISTRO

Rutherglen Central and North, South Lanarkshire, <20£
28/03/2020: I attended Bistro a few months ago for my cousins 40th birthday dinner (just came across the Trip Advisor page, hence the late review) and was very impressed. Despite living just up the road, I had never been before. My cousin and her family, who are regulars, were full of praise for it. One member of family actually stated this is where they'd eaten the best steak they'd ever had. I went for mussels to start which were top notch; generous portion with a lovely white sauce. I can't remember the name of my main course dish (to my annoyance) but it consisted of veal strips covered in baked cheese with spaghetti, and a tomato ragu sauce. Again, the portion size was good and it tasted superb! Due to how filling the food was, and the fact my Dad kept giving me bits of garlic bread (which were really nice too), I had no room for dessert - this is genuinely a first! Although the desserts looked great, and I would love to have one another time.
15/03/2020: just a miserable experience all round- rude, unpleasant and unprofessional. must have been trained in the jungle.

Little Rock

Ardrossan and Arran, North Ayrshire
25/03/2020: Fantastic little cafe in Brodick which has fantastic views across the bay. Great home cooking and fantastic coffee! Definitely worth a visit.
16/03/2020: Popped in for some lunch. The cafe seemed busy but we only waited a few minutes on being seated. Staff were really friendly and attentive. Our food was delicious! Ideal for something quick and tasty. We liked it so much we returned the next day before heading onto the ferry. If your sitting at the window it’s also a lovely view.

Smiths

Bothwell and Uddingston, South Lanarkshire
21/02/2020: It was quite a while ago that myself and my family visited ' Smiths'....
19/02/2020: Great service. Nothing too much trouble. Enjoyed our meal. Loved the idea the menu given was priced for you to decide 2 course or 3 and price was stated. Great idea. Would return as a couple and would try lunch next time.

3idiots

Ayr North, South Ayrshire
16/05/2020: Spot on with the timing that I requested on the excellent website. I liked the way it allowed the set meal to be built up from the various choices. Pakora was as good as I've tasted. Papadoms and onions good, garlic nan exceptional. Curries were fresh and came in very good portion size. For my taste, the main courses were very salty. I woke up during the night with a mouth like the foot of a budgie's cage, scanting for a drink. The sauces of both curries were very similar with only minor differences distinguishing them. Overall this restaurant is a refreshing change for Ayr and I would commend it, just go for two very different style curries if you want a variety. Also, if chef could cut back the salt or offer a lo-salt alternative, I for one would appreciate it.
16/05/2020: Had takeaway delivered and it was FAB!!!! Best indian we have had in a long long time! So fresh and tasty

GRO Coffee

Irvine West, North Ayrshire
05/03/2020: Coffee’s are nice but a little overpriced for what they are. If you have a sweet tooth you’ll love the desserts, have a delicious range of sweet treats! Staff seem as thought they want to be anywhere but there and spend most of there time chatting to each other. It’s nice but nothing special.
02/03/2020: Visited here and it was very busy as it was Saturday afternoon which we expected we didn’t mind queuing however the cue was getting so long and as its such a small cafe the waiting area was rather cramped I feel staff should have cut it off at a certain point and just told people to start cueing outside rather than round tables where people are trying to eat, it all just felt very intrusive. The food was nothing spectacular got the mac and cheese can’t really go wrong with that tbf. The young girl who served us was lovely however she seemed run off her feet, while other staff seemed to larking about. Will visit again next time we are in Irvine, just hope it’s not as busy as it was this time round.

No 38

East Kilbride Central North, South Lanarkshire
20/03/2020: We had dinner last Saturday in a full restaurant and as always the food was excellent and service flawless. Sadly, David felt the Restaurant would be forced to close because of the World Viral Epidemic, as indeed all Restaurants now have. We can’t wait until Number 38 reopens and have bought a number of vouchers which help show the team how much we appreciate their work and look forward to dining soon at No. 38. Hard times for many folk at this time.
18/03/2020: Went for a family celebration 8 of us and couldn't fault a thing. Lovely menu, excellent food and service.

Stags Pavilion

Irvine West, North Ayrshire
03/11/2019: This is a special wee restaurant. I'd be astonished if anyone had a negative word to say about this place. Book in advance!....The fact that Stags is always busy, even on a Tuesday night in late October tells you everything you need to know. Diners are made to feel genuinely welcome from the moment they enter. There is a real warm and relaxed feel about the restaurant and the staff. My Wife and her family are fairly regular customers, but this was my first time. The food was thoroughly enjoyable with everything cooked to perfection. After three courses, I felt utterly replete and deeply relaxed...probably the beginnings of a carbohydrate coma, but I was soon stirred as I stepped out into the inky blackness of a wild Arran night. Unlike Captain Oates, I may be some time, but I'll definitely be back. Recommended and well deserved 5* rating.
02/11/2019: Back again to this super wee restaurant. Food delicious, portions perfect. Everyone so friendly and the place is cosy. Absolutely fabulous to see the sign "fully booked this evening" in the quieter time of the year. If you are on Arran, a must visit!

braidwoods

Dalry and West Kilbride, North Ayrshire
14/03/2020: Despite the winter drizzle, it was good to get out of grey Glasgow into the Ayrshire countryside for lunch. It must be difficult to meet expectations of a Michelin star, but Braidwoods did not disappoint.
24/02/2020: Service Was brilliant menu a little restricted but food and atmosphere was excellent. We all had a lovely evening.

Inn on the Loch

Clydesdale North, South Lanarkshire, 20-30£
26/03/2020: Thankfully we managed to get out to our favourite restaurant just before they had to close temporarily due to the coronavirus .
15/03/2020: Lovely food and fantastic service from a lovely young waiter . But the way we were greeted and dealt with by the manager when we arrived was atrocious. Very rude young man . Won't be back . No need for service like that , such a shame for all the lovely young staff around him.

Twenty One Restaurant

Hamilton North and East, South Lanarkshire
14/03/2020: I took my sister who was visiting, for dinner here, promising her the best smoked salmon in Scotland and she was not disappointed! As usual we were met with helpful and friendly service and excellent food. The wine recommendation was perfect too and the price was very reasonable for such a good quality meal. This is definitely my favourite place to eat in Hamilton at the moment.
13/03/2020: Good location, particulary for nearby parking. Pleasant decor and seating. Nice atmosphere combined with good food and service makes for an overall great experience. Keep up the good work.

Mara Fish Bar & Deli

Ardrossan and Arran, North Ayrshire
08/01/2020: Cosy, lovely service and SO laid back, that’s why we come back for seconds! Goan curry fish stew, kippers to die for and mussels with sauerkraut (it works )!
19/10/2019: Great little place. Shoreside (virtually), small but enthusiastic menu. Disappointed fish tacos had sold out, but the goan fish curry was very tasty. Very friendly staff/owners make this a welcome stop off when touring about the island.
