The Qismat is one of my favourite eateries in Elgin. Always an attractive restaurant, the recent refurbishment adds to the enjoyment of the dining experience. A comprehensive menu covers most of the usual Asian favourites. Prices are on par with other similar Elgin restaurants. Service has always been first class, and this was no different at my recent visit. Mr Ali, the proprietor is always on hand, giving friendly greetings to customers. Finally and most importantly, our meal was delicious.

First time visiting today after a bit of shopping at the nearby shops. I must say we were very impressed from start to finish. Clear social distancing guidelines set out and staff looked on top form, especially the girl Shanna who looked after us. She was very friendly and seemed genuinely interested in making sure we had a pleasurable experience. Food was tasty and portion sizes were spot on. We look forward to visiting again.

Really enjoyed our time here. We came for a wedding & stayed three nights. Lovely classic boutique Scottish hotel. Pros Great location & beautiful grounds with majestic trees Nice local walks - we went to the trout farm at Almondbank where there is a nice restaurant Staff really helpful & friendly Good parking Very quiet & peaceful Nice big beds Good hearty cooked breakfast Our room was clean, comfortable & spacious Powerful shower Fabulous wedding venue Cons Hotel is a bit tired. Rooms could do with a fresh coat of paint & bathrooms are clean but could do with a refresh.

We popped in here whilst touring in the area and were very impressed with the food and service. Hubby had the Chicken Tennessee Burger and I had the Chicken Parmiganio. Both dishes were cooked to perfection and I can honestly say it was the best Chicken Parmiganio I’ve ever had. It does advise that the meals are cooked to order and it could be up to a 30 minute wait but if you want great food it is worth it. The staff were lovely and very attentive. If we are ever back in the area we will definitely be coming back.

Firstly the restaurant is lovely and bright and well laid out. They menu has plenty on it and the lunch menu is a good deal. However that is where the good stops. We waited at the sign to be seated, staff were talking at the bar and after 10 minutes we just had to go up and ask to be seated. The menu is pricey and the bread that came with the prawn cocktail was stale. The buttermilk chicken that came with the salad was rock hard and not that warm. We ordered 2 sets of drinks and both times had to ask where they were. Finally, it's February and the doors were wide open so the place was freezing. There seemed to be plenty of staff but they are just lacking attentiveness and given the price I would expect better.

While still fresh in my mind I'd like to sum up how special our family's wedding celebration experience at Buchanan's Bistro was. Everything and I mean everything was exceptional from the beautiful flowers to the welcoming ambiance, to the delicious food, and finally to the truly exceptional service with an extraordinary "I can do" ethos. It was an amazing occasion for all of us and we are deeply appreciative for your part in our day.

Venison dinner was superb, and I was there for seafood! Delightful service, view and special bottle of red but all was eclipsed by the perfectly cooked and served loin cuts. We split a portion of yummy, crisp onion rings to start and each had an overflowing side of green vegetables with our main. We decided to sit and watch the show on the field leading down to the magic view of forest, sea and islands surrounding the marina nearby. 'Show' you say? Yep. White-tailed hare cavorted, couple of random goats and an Angus or 3 munch contentedly in the foreground. Trio of ice creams at magnificent sundown brought our appetite to a pleasant end. Perfect!

We both had the Cullen skink (I had eaten it once before here, hence the return). It was excellent served with a nicely heated crispy roll and a small butter. The portion was ideal, not too skimpy but not too big (as we know it is a filling meal with all the cream !). We also ordered drinks and everything was served in time with a friendly lady. My partner told her to compliment the chef and I am sure the comment was passed on as she popped out whilst I was at the bar to show me the special lunch time menu they had been doing recently - that looked good and also the whole menu looked great with plenty of choice. So we will return and may try something different next time but this is our 'go to' place for the Cullen skink :)

Went to Nando’s St.Enoch square for dinner as Nando’s has always been a reliable chain for me. Restaurant was quiet with plenty of staff around. Order came of chicken with two sides - chips and sweet corn. Chips were cold - asked for some fresh and put butter on the corn. Fresh Chips came back and noticed that the butter had partly melted and then congealed on top of the corn. The corn was barely warm too. By this stage I couldn’t be bothered to ask for a fresh corn too. Really spoiled it - won’t be going back. Staff were friendly. It’s not an expensive place but also Nando’s isn’t that cheap anymore either. Very disappointed - they need to pick up their game - serving hot sides is not difficult. 😞

My 10yo daughter and I had a reservation for 8pm this evening, under the name Gillian Birnie. When we arrived, we were summarily ignored by two different staff members, until I told one of them I had a reservation, at which point he ungraciously sat us at a table closest to the exit, didn't offer any welcome, and handed us menus (I had to ask for the children's menu despite it being obvious my daughter is a child). At no point during the process of making the reservation (over the phone earlier that evening) or when we were offered menus were we asked if either of us had any allergies. My daughter has a life-threatening allergy to peanuts and some tree nuts and carries an epipen. I am frankly astonished that this was not asked, and neither could I find any allergens listed on either the main or children's menu. When it came to ordering, again, no questions about allergies. My daughter wanted the children's chicken katsu curry, and in the light of a lack of allergen information, I asked if it contained nuts. After a moment of confusion, our waiter asked if she was allergic to nuts, to which I responded that she was allergic to peanuts and some treenuts. He asked which ones, and I said she was allergic to most, and gave peanuts and cashews as an example. Without missing a beat, he immediately stated that 'he wouldn't recommend' the curry because it might have nuts. Never having come across a chicken katsu curry with nuts as an ingredient, I questioned this, and asked him to check with the chef. He disappeared momentarily to arrive back and almost gleefully declared that it did indeed contain nuts, but when I questioned which ones, he wasn't able to answer, so again he went to ask the 'chef'. Imagine my surprise when the answer came back as peanuts and cashews, the very nuts I had provided as an example. I asked why there were no allergens listed on the menu and why we hadn't been asked about allergies, and how (if there were nuts present in the kitchen) we could be sure of no cross-contamination with any other dishes. He stated that there were no nuts in the kitchen which was confusing, and I asked how could there be no nuts in the kitchen if the curry contained nuts, was it not freshly prepared? He said it was freshly prepared (and if this is indeed the case, it begs the question as to why it couldn't simply be prepared without the nuts) but that there were 'protections' in place, without specifying what those might be. Given that nobody proactively asked about allergies, that no allergens were listed on the menu, and the information we had thus far about allergens as ingredients, I decided not to risk the life of my daughter by dining in your restaurant. It is inconceivable in this age of increasingly common life-threatening food allergies that your establishment does not have a clear protocol for protecting your consumers against encountering a possible allergen, and that your staff are not better trained to deal with these situations, when someone's life could be at stake. I am frankly astonished and hugely disappointed at the way we were treated throughout our short time in your restaurant, and hope that with this feedback you can make meaningful changes for both health and hospitality improvements which are in dire need. If you are pitching your restaurant as a fine dining experience, with prices to match, it begs the question as to why these considerations are not already in place.

Popped in while visiting Hawick. Ordered over the phone for collection, lady on the phone took every detail regarding sauces, salt etc and made sure it was adhered to when packing it once I arrived. Food was good, pepperoni didn’t seem the same kind I’d get at my local but didn’t stop me eating it.
