Argyle House Restaurant

Govan, Glasgow City
12/12/2018: After 27 years of our annual do this place just keeps getting better. Food is superb and prices are great but the main talking point must be the staff. All brilliant but special thanks yet again to the outstanding Kate and Michelle. Treasures. They deserve a trophy to themselves. See you all again next year.
11/11/2018: I booked a table here for four adults as part of my fiancé’s 40th celebrations. Coming from Fife we were a little late due to traffic however when I called to give staff advance warning, they were most understading. Parking was obviously no issue, you get straight to the door and the carpark is well lit. We were greeted at the entrance by a lovely gentleman dressed in a suit who ushered us to the lift; the restaurant is on the upper floor. The reception area and hallways were spotless and stylishly decorated in club colours, displaying photographs and canvases which mark the history of the club. Like many others I expect, my fiancé said that these brought back happy memories! The lift took us straight to the restaurant which was really busy, hosting a range of families celebrating milestone birthdays, and younger couples for more intimate meals. We were immediately taken to our own private booth which overlooked the stadium and the sight was quite spectacular. Staff even offer to take photographs of your party with the stadium as the backdrop! Our drinks were served swiftly and the waiting staff were all professional but very friendly in their service. The menu is set at around £22 per head with a supplement for steak and lamb there’s plenty to choose from. We ordered haggis bon bons, and the prawn cocktail for starters, and for mains, three steaks (all done to perfection medium/rare and medium) and the chicken dish. No complaints there; the food was hot and delicious and each course was served promptly. Throughout the meal staff checked on us but not in an invasive manner, and there wasn’t just one person attending to us, so it meant that additional drinks requests were taken quickly. The restrooms were spotless and spacious and echoed the style of the restaurant. Price wise, our bill was a reasonable £176. As we left the gentleman downstairs asked how we enjoyed our evening and this was a really lovely personal touch to end our visit. We would thoroughly recommend this restaurant and look forward to returning.

trans-europe cafe

Anderston / City, Glasgow City, <20£
11/12/2018: OK is probably best thing I can say here. Met my friend here yesterday, both visiting for the first time having seen reviews on here. Surprised this is on TAs Top 10 of cafes in Glasgow. I could name lots of much better cafes in this city. It was fine, but food was average. Decor was basic and bathrooms left a lot to be desired.
03/12/2018: Dropped in on a Sunday for brunch for five.

Cafe Cossachok

Anderston / City, Glasgow City
18/12/2018: I came here with 7 other members of my family on 16/12/2018.
09/12/2018: Cafe Cossachok is our main go to restaurant whenever someone is visiting and wants to try something special.

279 Cafe Bistro

Partick West, Glasgow City
18/12/2018: I've eaten here a couple of times for breakfast when i've been staying up in the city and would definitely go back. Having a dairy intolerance, it's so nice to see somewhere that promotes their vegan menu. And that has yummy vegan food too! I can choose from the vegan menu whilst my partner can still have the all signing, all dancing full Scottish non vegan option. Win win!
25/10/2018: This was my first visit to this lovely small bistro and it won't be my last. Although I stay over on the south side of the city it will not be a problem to travel back here. I had the best french toast, bacon and maple syrup. The portion was excellent and served piping hot. Bistro was clean and tidy and the staff very welcoming. Prices are good also.

The Glencairn Lounge

Dumbarton, West Dunbartonshire, <20£
23/11/2018: Always outstanding food and service. Never a bad experience out of the many times eating in! Easily in my top 3 places to visit for some whole hearty food and crazy portions! Enough to feast while you visit and have some to take home for later. Ideal!
12/11/2018: 3rd visit and still impressed, great food served by lovely staff at great prices, reminder next time wear stretchy trousers see you soon xxxx

The Brasserie at the Ubiquitous Chip

Hillhead, Glasgow City, >100£
09/12/2018: Good staff who know what they are doing. Great menu and food. No hassle and no rush. Has to be a favourite not just for Christmas. Remember to pop into one of the bars afterwards.
23/11/2018: We were in Glasgow for the day and had been told the West End had a plethora of cafes, restaurants and delis where we could have lunch. By chance, an assistant offering samples of cheese outside a deli recommended the brasserie here. We had seen the restaurant a few minutes earlier and discounted lunch there as it was quite expensive, but the assistant told us to go upstairs to the brasserie. What a great recommendation this proved to be! We had the smoked ham broth to start followed by Shetland mussels and chips. The surroundings were quite unusual and we loved the whole ambience.

West Brewery, Bar & Restaurant

Calton, Glasgow City
09/12/2018: I ordered a couple of cases of Heidi Weiss beer from the West website for a party that I was organising. It turned out that when it arrived, both cases were the wrong types of beer. On calling to see if I could swap, the team could not have been more helpful - and given that time before the party was tight, they managed to get two cases out to me just in time.
08/12/2018: Staff friendly and helpful, but the food was pretty average versus the price. Also not easiest place to find as part of building needs better signage.

Hillhead, Glasgow City
10/12/2018: Came for dinner saturday teatime place very busy a lot of staff who were very pleasant. Couldn’t read the menu as place is so dark had to shine a phone down. We ordered chicken supreme was nice but portions were small. Other 2 people had burgers. They came with frozen french fries in other places there is different choices of chips etc like hand cooked. A bit of salad and coleslaw would be nice with burgers. Just think the food is overpriced really it’s nothing special. Supposed to be better Bit of Glasgow the food is no better than a paisley pub.

Garvie & Co

Milngavie, East Dunbartonshire
16/12/2018: We visited Garvies for some coffee and food late afternoon and as much as the food and service were fine the whole place was cold. It was so cold we had to sit with our jackets and scarves on as did others. We asked for the heating to be turned up but the staff said it was up at full and that other customers had also complained about the lack of heating. We noticed 2 radiators neither of which were working!
16/12/2018: Dinner for six! Great spirit, delicious starters. Had the Mac n cheese with side salad and garlic toast - yum. Apple and fig crumble yum. Can’t gomwrong with menu, prices, service!

Mark's Deli

Giffnock and Thornliebank, East Renfrewshire
03/10/2018: A great shop with a variety of delicious foods to eat. The soups are delicious my favourite is the lentil They also do a good selection of main course meals sweet and sour chicken and meat balls in tomato sauce among the many Bagels and strudel and a great variety of bread Also do sweet cure herring and chopped herrings so many wonderful foods and smoked salmon a treat So well worth a visit.
20/09/2018: This is the only Kosher deli in Glasgow and is located within Giffnock Village. Good food, nice staff, great service. Supervision under the Orthodox rite.

U Jarka

Anderston / City, Glasgow City, >100£
15/10/2018: Have been in a few times now and it is usually very quiet, which is crazy, this is good food and cheap wine. Intend to work my way round the menu. Never have room for dessert though....

La Bonne Auberge

Anderston / City, Glasgow City, 20-30£
03/12/2018: A lively city centre Restaurant ..very convenient for the Royal Concert Hall. Friendly staff...pre concert meal is fine although could not be classified as fine dining.
20/11/2018: We went there with our parents and had a great evening together. It's a nice restaurant with friendly, welcoming staff. The four of us ordered different options and we all were very satisfied. Can't say how much I enjoyed my coq au vin - just delicious and my partner said that his tortellini had a super flavour, the best he'd eaten for a long time. In a nutshell, we loved it :-)

Bowfield Hotel & Country Club

Johnstone South, Elderslie & Howwood, Renfrewshire, 30-45£
24/11/2018: I visited the Bowfield Hotel restaurant, now known as The Plumpy Duck for the 2nd time to take a friend out for a birthday lunch. The restaurant is now in the old games room which is smaller and has lower ceilings than the room it was in last time we visited. I was disappointed as I rather liked the barn conversion type room with its roaring fire that used to serve as the restaurant. However, the food was great as ever. I had the all day veggie breakfast with veggie haggis, tomato, tattie scones and fried eggs. My friend who is on a gluten free diet had the chilli with tortillas and had no complaints. One thing that was very off- putting was people wandering in and out wearing only dressing gowns as they had been in the spa rooms. I think there should be a rule that requires people to put their clothes back on if they are going to eat in the restaurant. I don't want to see bare feet and hairy legs when I am eating.
12/11/2018: Had afternoon tea here. It was lovely, surroundings were great. Christmas tree up. Lovely helpful staff. We sat for ages nobody rushed us. Would definitely go back.

Phoenix Park Table

Paisley North West, Renfrewshire
15/12/2018: Just back from our annual christmas shopping pilgrimage plus our customary overnight at Paisley Premier inn incorporating Brewers Fayre .So you know what your getting at Brewers Fayre - decent grub - fair price.
15/12/2018: We visited on a Saturday night for something to eat and it was a great experience. Ordered Brie bites and potato dippers for a starter and they were perfect and the New Yorker and smothered chicken for a main which were delicious, so well done to the chefs. We were served and looked after by the lovely Denice who done everything she could to accommodate to us and was such a pleasure. Lucy and Aiden were also very welcoming and friendly as were the rest of the staff who were working . Would definitely return and would recommend this place to friends and family as a great value for money. The staff always look after you and the food is always great quality. Keep up the good work.
