Thank you Waterhouse for an exceptional lunchtime experience. Warm welcome, clean tables and immaculately turned out staff at the front of house and in the kitchen. I wanted to support a community beneficial and independent establishment so that’s two boxes ticked! I wasn’t expecting it to be much more than a canteen with clean but chaotic service. How wrong I was! Professional and excellent service from the moment we walked in, delicious lemonade flavoured drinks with organic and additive free ingredients, best coffee I’ve tasted in a long time, nicely presented and well cooked curry (could have been a bit spicier for my taste but I appreciate it needs to suit all tastes not just mine!) with rice and a homemade nan, sticky warm chocolate brownie with ice cream and change from £25 for two of us having lunch. You’d pay more than that for Starbucks lunch for two and none of the profit benefits the community! Anyway thank you Waterhouse Restaurant. Spectacular location, lovely staff and clean wholesome surroundings.

Superb food, Mediterranean influences but deliciously enjoyable. Well worth a visit. Staff polite, friendly, and eager to please. A hidden gem.

Absolutely shockingly bad service at 7.30am this morning at Ripe. I approached the cafe when the door was open at 7.05 am and asked if they were open and if they served gluten free bread to which I was told they open at 7.30 and yes- gluten free available. So I went back to my car and waited for 25 minutes until they opened. When I went back in and asked for a gluten free bacon sandwich the initial lady I had spoke to was trying to accommodate my order but as the bacon was usually served with a baguette she was struggling to put the order into the till or know what to charge me. She asked for help and was met with rudeness and unhelpfulness from her colleague who told her that gluten free was a sandwich and they weren’t served until after 11… had she checked with the kitchen that they had gluten free… and would they serve before 11…. This was then agreed they did have, but I couldn’t have a gluten free baguette I could have plain bread and I would have to pay an additional £1.50 for the privilege of having gluten free bread- rather than a big chunk of baguette????? I could understand if it was a gluten free sandwich vs a sliced bread sandwich as gluten free bread is more expensive… but not as a substitute for a baguette. The lady who was shouting about the £1.50 extra never gave me any eye contact or spoke to me directly. She was extremely rude and unfriendly. I asked how much the bacon sandwich would cost me and was told £9.50. There was a large queue behind me by this point due to the back and forth about the said gluten free bread….. there was a small gasp from several members of the queue and a comment “that’s totally ridiculous “ and a supportive nod in my direction as I said “no thank you” and left… hungry

High up on the wall of this restaurant, is a plaque dedicated to the Unity of the Brethren or the Moravians. They established their chapel on this spot back in 1750's and worshiped there until it was destroyed by a bomb in World War II. The church then relocated to their "God's Acre" or graveyard off the King's Road in Chelsea. Perhaps part the Moravian legacy of this place is that it remains the seat of justice for the UK with many legal chambers and offices nearby.

Have used The Swan a couple of times before. Its a shame that its deserved success may lead to grumbles. The car park was packed at 13.00, I had the last space......against a hedge. The road has restricted parking and becomes a jungle close to when a local school closes for the day with parents picking up little Johnny and Mary in their SUV's. But I'm a repeat cust, albeit intermittent, so accept the parking issue. The Swan just can't provide more spaces. I was welcomed by a lovely assistant who told me where my table was and handed menu's. Unfortunately my table for 2 didn't exist so my guest and I split a table of 4 and sat down. We were quickly followed by another assistant who apologised that she hadn't prepared the Conservatory seating area properly. Hey-ho. We waited to order drinks.......and food. Not much happening there so I went to the bar where it became obvious you ordered at the bar. If only I'd been told from the outset. Food didn't take long. Generous, well presented and very well cooked.......why I came here in the first place. I went to the bar after my mains to order a dessert. A quarter of an hour later I asked again 'cos it was obvious I'd been forgotten. Fulsome apologies and the dessert was wiped from the bill. Generous again. Overall the price was fair, although I was asked to confirm a service charge of a few pounds. Well, I'd been excused the £8 dessert price so why not agree to the service charge. Thing is, apart from having meals brought to the table there was no other service provided to me and can only assume a day is coming when you simply buy a pint at the bar and the assistant asks you to pay, say 50p, for having been drawn that pint in the first place. Bit cynical of me but so is the pressure option of paying a tip when its already been added to the bill. The Swan offers great food and value for money but there's lots of little fluffy bits around the edges that results in me just being that intermittent customer.

Great place, each room is dedicated to a specific aeroplane and log burner in each room. Lovely welcoming staff and lovely and warm the weather outside was extremely cold. The food was delicious the best rib eye steak Ive ever had. We don’t live in the area were just visiting but now looking to come back to the area just to come back to the pub
