I have been to The Engine on several occasions including Christmas, birthdays and most recently on Easter Sunday. The meals are amazing, great portions and price. We are normally served by Donna and I feel a special mention for her is appropriate as she goes above and beyond, she actually knows what my granddaughters have without asking! Went for Sunday lunch. Attended mid-afternoon on Mother's Day, so about as busy a time as I could have possibly chosen. All staff incredibly friendly and professional, despite the high volume of customers. Table for three, with us all having a Sunday roast, and a dessert thereafter. All absolutely marvellous and at reasonable prices. Couldn't say a bad word about it, and my mother was very happy with hers, too - making it a definite win as a Mother's Day meal choice. Nice building, too, it should be noted. Nice traditional style. Nice place, will be back soon.

Been here several times for lunch and food always fabulous so booked a table for 8 for family occasion. Firstly was dismayed at how packed and rowdy it was due to a football match, having assumed we were in for a quiet family evening. Granted It did quieten down once the match ended. 2 of the party asked for steak, to be told at 7.30 that there were none left (prime time on a Saturday evening!, obviously a stock issue!) 3 of us then plummed for gammon and 2 for liver, the rest a mixture of other off the menu. Unfortunately the gammon was extremely tough, difficult to cut through and even more difficult to chew, the liver was also overcooked. I am also assured the 2 prawn cocktail starters were poor and noones meal was particularly hot. I cannot, however fault the service we received from a very young gentleman who was professional through and through Will we back? Very unlikely which is such a shame as previous lunch dates/food were perfect .

Lovely pub and came here a lot, but food not as good as it used to be. The menu isnt as inclusive and its very boring. I had a lemon tart which consisted of a slice of pastry, im sure they forgot to put the filling in! Mains Portions size is okay, but if you like your grub I would advise 3 courses

Not been to The Engine for some time, popped in last Saturday Afternoon and was very impressed, the food and service were great. We both had the Chicken Gyros and they were fabulous, wish we could have fitted in a pudding but we were defeated by this lovely main course.

OK, we didn't eat here; just popped in for a drink....and the prices are ridiculous: both hand-pulls were not functioning. Opted for a cask beer and a medium white wine: £12.75 ! That's a rip-off to me. It was a Saturday evening and the pub was almost empty. Wonder why? Won't be back!

Absolute disgrace from start to finish! Our bums had not touched the seat before the waitress came over to ask for our order, she then came back again two minutes later and seemed annoyed we had not decided! Starters were below average and then my partners steak which should have been medium rare was extra well done and tough, which was sent back and nothing else ordered due to the quality of the food! my child’s fish and chips had huge bones in it and was majorly overcooked! The ambience of the restaurant was overrun by very loud drunk people in the bar, overly priced for the quality of food and service was an absolute disgrace! Never again! Spoilt our weekend!

Really looking forward to going after reading the menu, What a disappointment, My mixed seafood starter was unrecognisable, well apart from the batter, Then for mains ! My steak ( that I asked for rear to medium ) was incinerated, I had to tell the waitress to take it away as I couldn’t eat it, the boys had sausage and mash and the sausages were frazzled and fish and chips and the fish was full of bones, I was happy just to pay the money just to get out the place

Best Sunday lunch iv ever had! Had the 12 hour beef. So tender! The mash potato was amazing so creamy. Liked the separate plate of vegetables for the table and extra gravy boats. Absolutely delicious

Went yesterday for Sunday lunch ,never been in the engine Inn for many years. Well impressed with decor and although very busy not overwhelming. I had slow cooked beef ,my partner had the turkey. Well done chef and staff ,perfect meats cooked to perfection, with delicious vegetables including tasty sausage and stuffing complimented by gorgeous gravy. Only small gripe was slightly oily roasties and yorkshire pudding. Pricing of meal ok but 200ml of prosseco for£9.80 a bit steep. Will definitely return.

Had Mothers Day lunch today which was lovely ! Asked to move tables to be in the restaurant which they accommodated straight away ,my daughter also had toothache and wasn’t up for eating but they offered a few things ,so friendly and helpful,good customer service all round … been a few times before always lovely food .. will definitely be back .Lovely team 😊

A few hours later we were called to say that the premises was closed, as the lease was ending, and that lastminute.com shouldn't have accepted the booking. We have since been told that you, Peter, have mistakenly told Lastminute.com that we did in fact stay, and that you were therefore claiming our £84.99 that we paid Lastminute.com at the time of booking. They won't refund our money until you contact them to rectify this error. Please can you do this so that our money can be returned accordingly, or contact us directly to pay via BACS. Being close to our office, I had heard good reports from folk at work about the Engine Inn. I made contact to make a booking and spoke to Peter, who then introduced himself when we arrived. We had a variety of food types - nachos to start for me, followed by a Engine Room burger. The quality of the food was to an excellent standard and the service was attentive and slick. A great option for us to return to and I'd recommend it to others without reservation. Many thanks!

The self proclaimed only person (part timer) who could turn the place around has succeeded. From being more than just OK, to utterly abysmal, in just over year is a more than kind description. Breaking all records when he took over, what a joke. Selling one packet of crisps one day may well have broken a record? You couldn't make it up, like the potential turnover and gross profit returns on their for lease website documentation. Hans Christian Anderson stuff!!Heineken and their management have proved even worse than the previous shockers of Punch Taverns, which is no mean feat.Family and friends feedback (as it's not a visit) is horrendous, thank goodness some of us ordinary folks are barred and, as far as the management seem to be concerned, to hell with guaranteed regular income.The current mantra of cash at any cost will have this once very nice local place shut within weeks. Steak night, pizza/pasta night - loud bad language night - seems to be every night.Heineken/Star Pubs apparently couldn't care less. For sale soon????The "local" punters will continue to stay away whilst this debacle goes on unabated.Give us back our pub with a good choice of competivley priced beers, a decently run establishment and an incentive to use the place. Visited the engine last week, customer service was outstanding, they went above and beyond for us, food was lovely, pub was clean and prices were very reasonable. I would highly recommend the engine. We will be back

Visitamos hoy como marido le gustaba el cordero asado, que no está disponible en todas partes. Manos arriba, no estaba realmente de humor para la cena asada. Los niños tienen otras opciones, los adultos no los domingos. Sin embargo, realmente disfruté mi cena de pavo, mi esposo estaba muy satisfecho con el cordero, mucha salsa siempre buena en nuestro libro. Elegimos pudines ya que dos platos tenían una buena relación calidad-precio, pero ojalá no hubiéramos debido a la espera antes del servicio y una tarta de queso bastante decepcionante. Los platos principales eran tan buenos que sin duda volveremos.

It's a real shame I have to title this review the way I have and gave this only 3 stars as it's a lovely place, the food was great and very reasonable - big tasty portions. Good selection of drinks friendly staff.

We popped in on are way back from a shopping trip was a Monday nite and a friend had mentioned they did specials on different nites of the week so we thought we would try it.... on arrival we were greeted by a very friendly young lady who showed us a few different seating opinions so taking are seats we were given the menu and in a Monday nite they have a offer of 2 steaks and a bottle of wine or 4 bottles of sol for £25.00 so we just went for that..... in the past I have to be honest in other establishments the portion size has always been small on these offers.... however we went for it and we were asked by the young chap how we wanted them cooked now I'm extremely fussy and like mine amost not cooked just sealed either side.... he told me that would not be a problem.... again always ended up over cooked..... they were brought out on huge plates with full trimming and I have to be honest my steak was cooked to perfection and so was my husband's..... and nothing was a problem with the staff..... the place it self is very clean and quite old in its deco as clearly that's the look they went for.... this will be a repeat visit for us and next time I will get a picture.... we think we might try the fishy Friday next as they look amazing aswel...... well done the The Engine

We have visited here twice in recent weeks and both times the food was amazing, I’d highly recommend the Tuesday burger deal (2 for a tenner) and the Sunday lunches we had on our following visit were excellent, on both occasions the staff were friendly and helpful.

We've been in twice now and both times have been spot on. They do a deal where you get two fish dishes for £15 on a Friday. The first time we went we both had fish n chips with mushy peas and the quality of the food was spot on. Plus plenty big enough for my large appetite. Second time we went in and my partner got the scampi whilst I stayed with good old fish n chips. Part of me was thinking she was daft for trying the scampi when fish n chips was on the menu but the size of the portion and the comments she made while eating it proved me wrong. Seeing as it's £15 from the chippy for fish n chips n mushy peas twice then I think this is an absolute bargain and well worth a trip for anyone.

Used the conservatory at the engine inn today for a business meeting. The manager allowed us to use the room before pub opening time and the staff were fantastic throughout the day. Hot drinks were refilled frequently and our lunch was amazing !! Fish finger sandwich and home made chips were a big hit with everybody! We will be using the engine inn again for our business meetings.

Didn’t feel wanted even though my partner and I were the only customers. Got paint all over my clothes thanks to the garden bench. Tried complaining but director John Sharkey clearly wasn’t interested. NEVER again

La calidad de la comida es de 2ª a ninguna y las papas fritas están fuera de este mundo. El personal es muy amable y nada es un problema. The food here is consistently good with pizzas and pasta having plenty of meat and cheese, nothing seems to be being removed from the meals as stated by another reviewer. The staff are welcoming and helpful and the Chef Keith is very helpful if you need special foods for dietary needs.

Desde hace un par de meses, la pizza y la pasta fueron las mejores que hemos tenido, pero recientemente la calidad ha disminuido drásticamente, no hay queso ni pollo en la pizza de Kiev y casi no hay carne en la carne de res. Esto es un cambio drástico. Para nuestras primeras visitas, obviamente, ahora el comercio se está recuperando, reduciendo los ingredientes, sin estar seguro de si volveremos.

Sólo comí aquí con mi hija para el almuerzo, no podría recomendar un lugar más. He vivido en el área local durante muchos años y solo lo probé, pero superé mis expectativas: la comida fue increíble. Ambiente encantador, y un gran servicio del personal y el chef era genial. Sin duda volveremos!

Pals reconfirmed poor quality of everything and extortionate drink prices. Exception being pizza/pasta deal. Stick with The Percy for quality and consistency. Heineken are a truly poor outfit.

We hired the small function room for a birthday. We had an excellent day. Staff all very helpful from start to finish. We opted for the hot Buffett. All the food was great and good quality. Too much food if anything but everyone commented how nice it was.
