We have visited for an Afternoon Tea. The service was exceptional, polite and very attentive. Sandwiches and especially desserts were very fresh and delicious. It is a very rare chance to get such fresh desserts anywhere in London!

Holiday lunch with my adult son who was not feeling well on Monday when the restaurant was closed so we ate in the bar. We asked for soup, which was not on the menu, but they accommodated us with a delicious, creamy but not too heavy, cauliflower soup that was just perfect! Going to that extra mile was much appreciated.

Slow service and the cocktails weren't great, considering they were £25 a pop. Very expensive for lunch that was less than mediocre. Won't be going back there again.

Very bad service. Asked for the wine list, waited 30 minutes just to remind them we asked for the wine list. There were only 2 couples in the entire bar the whole time we were there (our reservation was for 7:15pm), The servers (THERE WERE 2) literally just faced each other at the bar and talked the entire time or they were looking at their phones. We witnessed the other table ask 5 TIMES for their bill. They were very frustrated as well. By the time we got anyone's attention to ask for dessert, the server told us the kitchen closed 30 minutes ago - I was sooooo mad! But said nothing and just asked for the damn bill.

We had afternoon tea at 1857 The Bar. It was my second time visiting London, and my husband’s first, so I wanted to do something memorable that neither of us had done, so a relative recommended this. Let me tell you it did NOT disappoint. The service was excellent, as was the food and tea. They were out of the tea I wanted, but the staff offered to make the variety from scratch. It was delicious! The amount of food was incredible, but I tried all of it (finishing most of it). I can’t say enough good things about the experience. I’ll definitely go back next time I’m in London.

Went here for afternoon tea as a Christmas family tradition. As usual for afternoon tea we expected to be seated in a lounge area with sofas etc, instead we were put in the dining room which is not the setting for afternoon tea, they said it was due to us being a big group, but there were 6 of us, not that big! After a lot of complaining they begrudgingly moved us to the drawing room, which was practically empty. The food was lovely, but throughout the afternoon but the service was painfully slow. And when we were ready to leave it took them about 20mins to find our coats. I would not go back the service and hassle was not worth it

£40 may seem like a lot to spend on afternoon tea, but not in London, not in St James's, and not when you get this much food. I don't know who was in charge on another review I saw, but we had free refills of sandwiches, free refills of tea, and so much cake and sweets that it wasn't possible to finish it all. The cakes were lovely and the tea was perfect. The staff were friendly and accommodating. My only complaint about the food is that the scones were a bit heavy and dry. Also, the small pot of clotted cream was slightly ungenerous, but then I didn't ask for a refill, so who knows?

Ambience in the Bistro is good. As expected prices are on the high side but our wine by the glass was excellent as was the tapas. They fell down on the steak - not entirely their fault as it seems Westminster council requires all steak to be well done. However, it was a thin and small piece of (I think) rump that looked lost on the plate, with gristle on a third of it. Given the council restrictions I'm surprised they have steak on the menu at all; but if they're going to, given its going to be served brown throughout they should ensure they're serving up the best. Recommended for tapas only.

Upon finding the hotel me and 3 friends were very impressed with the decor and staff in the entrance. We were promptly shown to the dining room where our table was reserved. We found the seating arrangement a little awkward as the room was empty and we had a gentleman sat eating his three course meal on the next table along which was exceptionally close to our table. The place setting was lovely, if not a little cramped. We were asked if we would like champagne which was poured quickly. Then asked what tea we would like from the limited choice. We then had to ask for our savory dishes to be brought to us, when our savory dishes arrived they were brought out with the sweet dishes too. We only had four very small sandwiches each that were all stale. We had still not received our tea at this point. Upon asking for more sandwiches we received look of horror from the waiter. We were then only given two small sandwiches each that were also stale. We didn't want to start eating our sweet dishes until we were partially full up on savory so the chocolate was starting to melt. We then had to ask for our tea to be brought over as well as some more sandwiches (which according to the waiter were already on the way but heard him make a phone call to the kitchen for our table). The sandwiches were given only to two of my party but with four sandwiches each on one plate. When the tea was delivered it was not loose leaf but in bags, had to ask for milk. We were asked if we would like to play some board games, but as the table was cramped there was no way that we could fit anything on. Although this was a board game themed afternoon tea we found it a little odd to be asked if we would like to play in such a luxury setting. Starting in on the sweet dishes was a bit tricky as they had melted quite substantially. They were also meant to be shared yet were very hard to cut in half. Most were not to my taste so I left everything apart from one on my plate. Very sweet with only dark chocolate. My friend who usually enjoys the sweet dishes the most was even put off by how sweet they were. We were all extremely disappointed with the afternoon tea that we had paid for, as we had such an amazing time at the Charlie and the Chocolate afternoon tea at One Aldwych, London for the same price. We paid £52 which was a very steep price for an unfulfilling afternoon that left us still hungry. We would not recommend this afternoon tea to anybody else. If you would like a fulfilling afternoon tea go to The Ritz round the corner where staff will be much more accommodating and you might get sandwiches that weren't left out all morning on a hot summers day for exactly the same price.

I booked afternoon tea at St James' Hotel & Club for a group of 13, in December 2014. The location is easy to get to from Green Park Station, and the hotel quaint. The service was very good and they accommodated those who had dietary requirements. I had previously been to the hotel for afternoon tea and had had a good experience, so hence recommended it when we wanted to take our mums out for the day. When we ordered extra sandwiches and teas, they were duly supplied, however not once did they inform us about the extra charges (£100 for the extra sandwiches). All in all, I paid about £200 more that I had expected to pay. I was ashamed of the addition to the bill as I had recommended the hotel. I feel that we should have been warned of the extra costs as we may have reconsidered ordering them. I am very disappointed to have been so misled and feel that the hotel had a duty to inform me and the party of all costs. We have contacted them but they have refused to reimburse us and I am seriously considering contacting Citizens Advice. (They did refund the cost of one afternoon tea as it was a child and this had been negotiated prior to our visit that there would be no charge.) The extra charges are also not indicated on the menu, nor the website so I feel they are in breach of customer code. There is another review on Tripadvisor which also mentions being unaware of the extra charges. Unfortunately I have only just seen this review! My brother (well versed in Law) spoke to Adil (their manager for the Afternoon tea) and to be frank he was appalled at the answers to his questions: 1. Where on the website does it say about the extra charges?2. The website eludes to a buffet style approach?3. The process in which a customer should be made aware of extra charges – and ownership to this failing. ?The response to this was that their customers are affluent and they do NOT see the need to remind them of extra charges, he said that the staff had done nothing wrong and that he will not help me further. My brother reminded him of the process of awareness to the customer (for extra charges) and the obligation of vendor to the customer. Sadly he was unpeturbed by this. I have since been to two afternoon teas: Mad Hatters’ Tea Party at the Sanderson Hotel (great experience!) and Harlequin Restaurant at Kingsway Hall Hotel (lovely service and accommodated well to dietary requirements). On both occasions, without any prompting, we were informed of what could be ordered at no further cost. This showed me that not being told at St. James’s Hotel & Club that there would be additional charges was a failure on their part, not mine.Sadly this experience at St James’s Hotel And Club would prevent me visiting the hotel again, not recommending it.- Dr KAR

While this isn't the Michelin starred restaurant at this hotel, the chef supposedly oversees both kitchens & menus. That would be difficult to tell, given our experience. The sauces we had were all good - my son's peppercorn sauce for his steak very good - but the rest of the meal was rather, well, routine at best. Given the overall reputation I'd expected something a bit better. There are other places you can spend the same money and get a better meal, I'd suggesting looking in to those. In hindsight I wish I had booked the tea, which was my first inclination, that seems to be the best option here.

Food poorly prepared and also not freshly prepared. Wanted a light dinner after travel so stopped in to what seemed a lovely upscale but relaxed restaurant. Had the three small plates combination- grilled shrimp- old and cold, artichokes- were cold, not grilled just seemed canned with a dressing, the burratta with tomato was excellent and was the only delicious item. Took 45 minutes for the next to arrive. Had a caesar salad with grilled chicken- great mass of gloppy dressing and small slices of hard cold old chicken on iceberg lettuce. Ate one third. My husband shared the combination small plate and then had a pear, walnut and chicory salad that was ok but just. On a scale 1-10 the meal was a 3. It cost 85 pounds. However it was not good at any price. Did not stay in hotel.

I found this little gem last Saturday. I was out with friends looking for somewhere inexpensive to eat that wasn't a burger chain. The frontage is a little deceptive but rest assured the inside is delightful and the food is excellent. We sat by the mock fireplace and enjoyed a superb meal at a modest price. The cheese was especially good as was the coffee to follow. As a vegetarian, I had plenty of choice for myself and my wife. There was a batchelor party at the next table and a hen party on the level below but it didn't spoil the overall experience. I cannot recommend this restaurant enough. My only grumble was the smell of the toilets!

I took 6 people to William's Bar and Bistro. We were shown a poor table, right next to swing doors at the entrance. 35 minutes passed before our first drinks arrived and even then the waitress messed up the order? The service was terrible, rude, uncaring and arrogant in the way we were served. The worst service we have ever experienced in London to date. To cap off the evening, we had ordered a rather expensive bottle of wine to accompany the main course - This was tipped all over the table in an attempt to pour from a decanter, with little apology or reaction. Hopefully, this was a one off bad experience, because if this was a normal experience, then I truly worry for them. Please exercise severe caution is deciding to dine here, not good

A bit of a fan of afternoon tea, I wanted somewhere to take my Mum for Mother's Day. While some of the more obvious choices in London are far grander, I knew they would be rammed, probably with strict 2 hour turn-arounds, which isn't what I wanted. Instead, at St James' we had a leisurely 3 hour tea, with the only welcome interruptions being the offer of more tea or coffee. It's largely a serve yourself, rather than silver service, this allows for a more intimate, informal experience, while the scones, clotted cream and home-made strawberry jam, with whole strawberries, are second to none in London. The art deco surroundings are elegant and the service from the door to table and back again is warm and welcoming. Highly recommend!

we had expected a diner experience in a relaxed atmosphere. the atmosphere was nice but the diner menu is small and what was disappointing was the quality of the food. it was not up to the standard of the hotel (would i be a gault millau tester i would not give more then 11 points) which is 5 star although the rooms are small in comparison to international comparisons. the presentation of the breakfast and the afternoon tea, however, has been very good and the quality up to the standard i expected. the price of wines is exaggerated which is the case in mayfair restaurants in general.

Cocktails took long time to arrive. The waiter finally explained that they had run out of mango juice. We ordered boiled potatoes with the main course which didn't arrive and we had to ask the waiter to take the plates away to keep the plates warm. We felt that for the price the food should have been better.

Altfor tette bord og variabel mat. Gode viner og drinker. Maten var variabel, men noen gode retter. Litt uspennende retter.

A great little find - lovely food, nice menu, great staff. I had a quick business lunch there and couldn't fault it. Nice varied menu with lots to choose from at a reasonable ( London) price. Relaxed dining room with plenty of space between tables so great for business lunches. Definitely would return.

Situated in the St. James's Hotel and Club on a quiet side street behind the Ritz hotel is this gem of a bar. Arriving late in London, I was looking for a quick, light meal. William's was the perfect spot. I started with a bowl of the "soup of the day" - a creamy carrot soup with soft, delicate flavours. For my "main course" I chose the warm salad scallops - fresh greens in a nice herb vinagrette with thinly sliced warm scallops. The portions are on the small side, which is what I was looking for. The bar has a small selection of good quality wines by the glass.

We found Williams Bistro in the St James Palace Hotel through Tripadvisor, we were looking for a special restaurant near to St James Palace to celebrate, which we knew would be in close walking distance, approximately 5 minutes away. The location was perfect given we had an elderly grandmother with us who appreciates fine hotels. The online booking system is efficient and we received a call the next day to confirm our booking and answer our query, they took a £20.00 per head cancellation deposit which we thought was reasonable. The welcome and service was exceptional and fully met our expectations of a 5 star hotel. The ambience is calm and luxurious which led to a long and relaxed lunch, the menu was varied with a good range of options, and the food was fantastically prepared and displayed. The desserts were not to be missed under any circumstances!!Overall this is a very special restaurant which is tucked away from the main street and well worth discovering.

Perfect. Ridiculously good, in fact. A real find. Fabulous food in lovely surroundings - bang in the heart of London. I had a fantastic burger and fries one night... and for lunch I ate what must be the best schnitzel outside Austria. It puts what you get round the corner at the Wolsely to utter shame. I will return. PS - afternoon tea hunters - we didnt, sadly, sample the afternoon tea but I suspect it is fabulous and they charge half of what you'd pay 2 minutes up the road.

Afternoon Tea by William Drabble at William's Bar and Bistro, 7 - 8 Park Place, London was quite pleasent. The bistro room is quite small and somewhat lacking in atmosphere. The food was a little underwhelming as I was expecting more from an afternoon tea designed by a Michelin stared chef. If you have a sweet tooth this menu is for you as there was a fortune of cakes and scones. I felt I could have done with a few more sandwiches to start (no refills offered)! Excellent staff.

William's Bar and Bistro, London SW1: cosy clubby bar in St James. Cocktails good (but not as good as Dukes), menu interesting, starters very good, mains OK. Service as one would hope for in this type of establishment. Very pleasant evening and ambience. Downsides: no tap water served (WHAT?) and MD needed reeminding of the discount offer. A "treats" place.

St. James Hotel and Club is truly tucked away amongst the imposing buildings behind St. James' Palace. It is an intimate, calm and bijou place, traditional yet with modern touches. The afternoon tea was copious, although the sandwiches were rather standard, the cakes and scones were good and the choice of teas quite interesting, served with attention and discretion. Recommend the corner round table for 2.

William's Bar & Bistro is situated within the St James' Hotel and has that kind of 'international clientele'. but the warm, elegant setting (ruined for us by a braying property-type nearby) is perfect for a romantic dinner. My lobster risotto starter was flavourful and plentiful and my husband's chicken and fois gras terrine was excellent. We both opted for sirloin for main course which was delicious. Be aware however that these are not bistro prices and the wine list is very expensive!

This tiny elegant bar is part of the St. James hotel, quite close to Green Park station. Tables for dinner can be reserved on Opentable. The food was sublime. I had pork cheeks in madeira sauce, meltingly delicious. Dessert was fabulous too. Really an excellent value for the neighborhood. We spent about the same amount for dinner the night before at a generic Italian place nearby--this was light years better.

What a delightful experience! I had an early dinner with a friend at William's Bar and Bistro and we both thought that the food was excellent and the dining area itself is very stylish and chic. I had the squid for starters which was superb and the pork cheeks with Madeira for my main which I truly enjoyed. Highly recommended for a dining experience with friends or a late lunch after a day of shopping in Mayfair! The staff were friendly and efficient. I will go back if I'm in the area again!

Had a very relaxed lunch last Sunday at Williams Bar and Bistro. I had the pork cheeks which were delicious and my friend had lobster risotto, which I was very jealous of! We shared a very nice bottle of wine, reccommended by our waiter, and to finish set vanilla cream with prunes poached in Earl Grey tea macerated in Armagnac! Heaven! Atmosphere was great, decor is very pretty and service really friendly. What more could you ask for?!

An amazing lunch at William's bar and bistro!! You can clearly recognise the talent of chef William Drabble (1 Mich star at seven park place)... I had a memorable terrine of confit chicken as a starter and a delicious lamb as a main! service spot on and nice atmosphere! I am often in green park and Mayfair so I can't wait to go back.. A very nice new entry in my list of favourite restaurants in London!

Lovely quality bar/bistro. Impressive size bar with a huge array of interesting bottles on display. Food was good, though not very large and could have been a bit hotter, but none of us (4) left anything on the plates. Service was a little slow considering there was hardly anyone else in the place (it was from 2pm on a Sunday) - took an age for the wine to be delivered. As we were not in a rush it didn't affect the experience too much.

Menu choices not ideal for vegetarians and with only a set menu, overall options were limited. However staff were friendly and accommodating as we chose to have drinks at the bar only. Good atmosphere for intimate conversations.

Generally fine - attentive service, food was well-presented and delicious. They should go easy on the salt though, particularly with the fries.

Wigmore Hall is one of the best recital halls anywhere. Large enough to have serious talent perform, but small enough that even the seats right at the back and in the balcony have excellent acoustics. Add to that a good location, decent bar and seats that can accommodate the widest of bottoms and it's a winner.

Brasserie One is a reasonably priced oasis in Westminster, which is ideal if you want a conversation over a meal. I have always found the service to be very good, with good food and wine. The menu is limited, but I have always managed to find something worth having and that I like. Worth checking out. I keep returning.
