The place is very quirky and glad I went. However,the place was lacking in atmosphere. The food was average and overpriced. Could have had better food for half the price.

The restaurant definitely has character and an unusual décor, which I really liked. The staff was polite. Unfortunately I've found the food mediocre. We've ordered the set menu. Starters were small. The hot starters were not really hot, and they didn't seem freshly prepared. The main dish was again very small, it reminded me of something that could be served in a pub. Overall, small portions, expensive and anonymous. I wouldn't recommend it.

Bhanu was amazing. Doing it her best in a busy day for her. We loved her, best birthday ever, kitchen good amazing. Keep her forever. She is funny when busy! Love her

Unpalatable. It's also expensive and the location is crowded. The short rib was stewed and tasted terrible. Sea bass has a strong fishy smell. The service attitude of the waiters was very bad. One Indian waitress dropped a fork on my friend without apologizing, and asked her to bring the cake for us. She even asked us, "Do you want me to put away the plate first or take the cake first?" with a very impatient expression. The serving time also takes a long time, so I need to keep urging. I won't come again, and I won't recommend it to my friends.

Nice food, great service, and eccentric atmosphere. Loved the intimacy of the opera boxes for a romantic dinner. A little bit overpriced for the portions being served.

Halal turkish dishes better than what i expected very interesting restaurant decorations

Wonderful Saturday night food and entertainment. Great theatrical venue, with quirky decor to match, setting the scene perfectly; excellent food and service with live entertainment. We arrived on spec., and managed to secure a table. We were put upstairs in a small booth and were introduced to our fantastic waitress Minez. We went for 3 courses and very glad we did as all were great. Minez then also managed to secure seats for us to watch the live entertainment which was a fantastic surprise. Highly recommended and another for the must revisit list.

Re-visited Sarastro after first visiting 5 years ago when we had a great meal. Locations great and decor quirky as before, but food was really disappointing this time around. Beef kebab dish was a very very small portion of sliced steak, with some grated potato priced at £25. Chicken dish was nice however came with essentially a thimble of bulgar. Kids meal was bowl of plain pasta with a bit of tomato sauce priced at £14. We thought the food was great last time so unsure what’s changed. Very disappointing. Appreciate the price of food has increased and this is the west end but there are so many places to eat it’s hard to see many people returning to Sarastro for the food. Basically it’s relying on its decor to bring people in.

Legendary theatrical restaurant with live entertainment on some evenings.

i saw a glimpse of the interior many moons ago and when deciding on were i wanted to go for my 20th birthday celebrations this place immediately came to mind. after some research, i discovered it once more and booked a table for 2pm on a saturday. surprisingly, the restaurant was very quiet and my partner and i were seated on a balcony which oozed all the essence of a 19th century intimate parisian hideaway. the amount of privacy was pleasant and the food was absolutely scrumptious. even more, the two waitresses that served us were such genuine ladys who put much care and consideration into making our dining experience simply divine. i did not confess it was my birthday upon making the booking however, our first server asked if/what we were celebrating then came up sometime after my telling her with a delectable birthday treat: ‘happy birthday’ in a rich dark chocolate scrawl and melt-in-your-mouth pistachio macaroons. more over, our second server presented us with two cocktails they’re thinking of adding to the menu to taste test. overall, it was an absolutely fantastic experience i will now recommend to everybody that asks for places to visit in london. I am certain i will come back over and over again, inducting new guests into this opulent opera paradise.

Just a fantastic experience in every way. Food and service was excellent Entertainment ( it was a jazz singer) was exceptional.. you need to go to this place! We went on a Thursday evening.. it was superb!!

5/5 for the singer Colin Roy & the decor/ambiance, the live music was incrediblyyy good A genuinely great vibe, The art in the toilet is brilliant and the decor looks even better in person, But at the end of the day it is a restaurant, and you go for food and I wouldn’t go for that, only for the vibe. Usually Turkish restaurants always have great food and they almost never miss, but this place didn’t, and it is very clear that it isn’t authentically Turkish at all. The menu was meh, The food was so lazy & flavourless, Beef & kofte was dry and unflavourful, and the mezzes didn’t have any of the usual flavour that they should have, etc hummus has no olive oil, garlic or seasoning flavour it was just nothing? tasting. Comes with a very lazy attempt of the very easy çoban salad, it was literally a few big chopped vegetables, I don’t know who they put in charge of the food, and if they even have literally any experience with med cuisine. The servers made countless mistakes and forgot about us lots, but they were nice people. A few people have complained about the cost, and it isn’t expensive for a good central London restaurant, but the food just isn’t worth it at all, and the place is no way near well maintained enough to charge what they do, so I would say yes overpriced. I would maybe come again but just to listen to the music and for the vibe, but I would only have drinks.

Came for a pre valentines meal and enjoyed the food very much. lovely presentation and really interesting atmosphere and style. The balcony tables feel intimate and romantic. I felt the live performance was a little jarring during a meal and a bit too loud. I believe the pricing was too much for the simplicity and portions of food. all round an enjoyable experience but even expensive for two people.

14 of went for dinner last night which was fab with a live singer. Staff and service were great.

We have been coming to this wonderful oasis since it opened in 1996. We celebrate every family occasion and love the whole experience. We now live in Cornwall and continue to visit once/twice a year. Enjoying this gem with friends and family. The set menu is always a great option, but it's the service and ambience what keeps us coming back. Would highly recommend

Having wanted to eat here for over 10 years, I finally made a booking and brought my family. The table and seating was uncomfortable/unsuitable, the menus were dirty and sticky, the atmosphere was dire, the vegetarian options very limited (one main), the set menu was significantly more expensive than the website stated, and the graphical sexual paintings in the toilets frankly disgusting (and I am very liberal). We left before even ordering, so I have given the food 3/5. I would never go back.

Fabulous theatrical decor, like an Arabian bazaar. The layout, with boxes/stalls, means the sound level is very agreeable to have a conversation comfortably (but there was no live performance when I attended). The food was good, but overpriced for the quantity and quality (eg. 2 falafel for £10.75). I had the Akcabat kofte, which came with excellent pita bread. Service was efficient though not very friendly. (They don't take Amex.)

The décore and concept was truly intriguing… unless you were sat underneath it all (below balcony). It wasn’t cute or cosy if you’re over 5 foot, and there was zero view of the performance or the rest of the bazar. The food was exceptionally bad. Very bland and not proximate to authentic. We paid £40 each for half a plate of food. Wouldn’t recommend.

Came for a birthday dinner, such good vibes in the restaurant. Food was amazing staff was very friendly and attentive, had Bhano serving us and she was great. 10/10 would definitely recommend to a friend. Make sure to check out the toilets ;)

Fascinating venue in the heart of theatre land. Almost opposite Drury Lane theatre, this former pub has been completely redesigned into a magical mini theatre; very atmospheric. There is a ramp for access - so accessible but the main ladies' toilet is not. (There are other toilets for youngsters which may be accessible). Staff were friendly enough. Service was a little slow, but the food was excellent; it was delicious in fact. For me, it was a little pricey. But by London standards, probably not!

We loved our visit to Sarastro The venue itself is incredible with so many quirky and interesting things and a great layout. The service was incredible, a special shout out to Benu And our meal was delicious We will be back

The place is very atypical, but you only enjoy the experience if you are sitting on the big floor.

Serving Mediterranean cuisine. Decor is fabulous and so well presented. Had the set Christmas Menu, which was delicious. Service was good, food well presented and hot.

Unique and special premises. It's just too bad that the service was ridiculously bad. Spiteful and rude waiter who appeared directly passive aggressive. We had pre-ordered the pre-theatre menu for everyone, but were given the standard menu which contains many of the same dishes at a higher price. We pointed it out as soon as we saw the menus, and the waiter then got totally pissed off and expressed that we were stingy who didn't want a regular menu. She even commented once more when we were to pay, that "next time we could choose from the regular menu"... Sorry, but there probably won't be any next time. The food was quite decent, but nothing more.. The lousy service unfortunately ruined the experience. Too bad, because the premises are in themselves an experience.

Sarastro Restaurant was an absolute disaster. The food was terrible—complete rubbish. It’s nothing more than a low, cheap-class Indian restaurant hiding under a fancy name. The quality was abysmal, and to make things worse, everyone in our group felt sick afterward. It was a total waste of money and time. Avoid at all costs!

I love the entertainment and the decoration here , the performance is amazing. But it’s a restaurant , the food is not satisfactory at all. I ordered a steak with fries which the steak is hard to chill and fries don’t have sauce…with this price I will go somewhere else..

My vegan chick pea dish tasted like Heinz vegetable soup. Friend's lamb shank tasted as if it had been boiled twice. Very poor quality food and expensive prices, 57 pounds for a not even mediocre lunch. Decor quirky and fun, but definitely not a place for foodies.

The food was good but the atmosphere really benefited from the theatre atmosphere and live singing.

I predict this will be permanently closed in the next 2 years from now. Atmosphere : lacking, it was a bit dire to be completely fair. Service: mixed bag, one staff member was incredibly impatient, huffing just because one of the family was translating the different teas. It didn't exactly take long to wait. In addition the same lady missed out order items on 2 separate occasions. I put this down to not reading back the order before leaving us. The 2 other ladies (one was in charge) were really nice and pleasant, so no issues in fairness. I understand we all have off days but I think huffing for a quick translation was not great. Food: this is the reason this place will close, I actually can't believe how average the food is. Now average isn't a bad thing necessarily if the price matches. But when you pay £35 for a "rack" of lamb (certainly was not) you expect freshness and flavours. The price of £200 for a table of 4 just felt a bit disappointing. I actually know so many other places where we could have saved £50 and the food would have been superior. Key things to note about the food. Felt like it was not fresh. Can't put my finger on it, was it already cooked and then microwaved? Was cooked and left to sit there... I don't know. The lack of fresh seasoning was a killer.... Ah it's just so disappointing. I wanted them to do so well as we had visitors. But yeh it is what it is. The competition of good restaurants is so high in the area I can't see how they can compete being such poor value for money.

There is nothing else like it in the Eastend. Fantastic themed restaurant with eye opening artwork in the washrooms. Must see.

Attended this place for a Christmas dinner with work so as you can imagine the place was busy, staff were good they did forget us sometimes but given the amount of people they had to deal with i can completely excuse that, the atmosphere was fab and the lamb was the best bit of lamb i have had in a while just superb. I will add the choice of bathroom decor is very questionable.

Mi amigo, por sorpresa, me llevó a cenar a este restaurante que ofrecen menú con espectáculo. Se ubica en una calle emblemática de Londres, a pocos minutos de la avenida de los teatros. La decoración, es sencillamente, única. Toda una experiencia visual que no te dejará indiferente. Las mesas se ubican de forma original, simulando un teatro y también con reservados íntimos que te invitan a pasar largas horas en buena compañía. El servicio es rápido, amable y atento pero he de decir que no te permiten bailar mientras tomas una copa. La higiene del local es destacable. Nos decantamos por el menú de Navidad. Todo estaba riquísimo y aunque las opciones saludables no abundan, el sabor era de 10. Los entrantes, plato principal y postre que elegimos, siendo este casero, fue una pasada. Lástima que el cóctel marca de la casa no me gustó y ni me terminé… Las raciones son abundantes y no pudimos terminarlo todo. Por todo lo demás, he de decir que me encantó la experiencia. Pasamos un rato muy agradable escuchando música en directo y bailando después.

Visited for pre-theatre dinner, the atmosphere was lovely and the food excellent. The decor of this restaurant is unique and the perfect place to visit to get a theatre vibe. The staff were all very friendly and very knowledgeable about the drinks and food they were serving. Our waitress, Bhanu, was extremely helpful and could not do enough for us.

It’s a huge shame that the service and substance doesn’t match up to the wonderful and magical interior. Kids mains small and priced at £14 didn't include a drink or small dessert and very basic. Chicken goujons advertised but grilled chicken arrived which was too charred for a child and a finely chopped salad with vinagre which had run under the minimal chips on the plate. I asked for it to be changed and was given a mini run down on salmonella. Staff then left “to check if it could be changed” and came back to tell me they could do a chicken breast. By that point we had eaten as the food was served warm and plates cold. Partners chicken skewer was better cooked but literally less than what you would expect in a basic cafe and again small. My seafood pasta was average. So so glad the kids enjoyed the theatrical booth seating but there was zero atmosphere. It was spur of the moment and early and I’m so glad it wasn’t a planned special occasion or anything as I would have been so disappointed. Another table we’re complaining above us and on leaving we were not thanked for coming or shown out. Really feels like they are taking advantage of low paid staff and not offering value for money on the food front. No complimentary bread for appetiser which you get in even the most basic of Mediterranean places. Basically don’t go for anything other than to take a few pics of the interior. Such a shame as it could be wonderful and even sadder that there will be no change as it reeks of the owners not caring at all.

Very special place, and the food is great!!

£54.50 for 3 courses that were basically tapas size, overpriced, portions very small. Beef and veg with rice, stew for regular folk but with rice. Pornographic paintings in the toilets, honestly do not waste your time or money. The dessert was nice that’s why it gets 2 stars and not one.

The food was absolutely delicious, especially the seafood pasta and the lamb, which were fantastic. The portions were great, and the atmosphere was simply amazing—no complaints at all, it’s incredible! Although a bit chaotic, it’s such a beautiful place. We didn’t know it was Turkish-owned :)) , it’s very well-run and impressive. There were different shows every day; we visited on a Sunday and enjoyed a wonderful violin performance followed by an opera. However, the service was a bit slow; we waited 20 minutes for the bill. The only downside was that the tablecloths looked very dirty, old to be honest, and it made us feel uncomfortable. Prices are high bu ı think its bcs of the show.

Ah, Sarastro! Truly, a contender for the most enchanting dining experience of my life. First off, I almost spared myself the trouble of writing this review, but Google insists that I give them at least one measly star. We booked online, blissfully unaware that we were about to become prisoners of Sarastro’s dining dictatorship. Did they mention that bringing more than five people turns you into set-menu captives? Of course not! It’s their little surprise. Goodbye à la carte menu, hello primary-school-lunch-themed set menus. Now, onto the famed ‘free’ starter of dips and bread. Oh wait, did I say free? I meant sneakily-plonked-on-the-table starters that you have no choice but to pay for—like a welcome mat you have to buy before stepping inside. But the real performance, the shining glory of Sarastro, was… drum roll, please… the service! Oh, theatrically terrible service, to match their theme. We had about five to six different servers waft around our table, each one as clueless as the next. It was a truly impressive display of passing the baton of incompetence. We asked to order from the à la carte menu—after all, it’s what we came for. Silly us! Of course, groups larger than five are simply not worthy of it. Even when we suggested that just one person ordered from the set menu… Nope, their immovable policy stood tall in the face of our common sense. Gotta respect the devotion to arbitrary rules, I suppose. Ah, but let me not forget the main star of the show: the waiter who appeared just as we were desperately trying to decide between ‘Bad’ and ‘Worse’ on the set menu. When we asked for a bit more time, he graced us with an eye roll followed by a grand, sarcastic watch-glance. Truly, we were honored by this peak acting masterclass. And that, dear reader, was our cue to exit stage left. Ignore the positive reviews left for this place from travellers who frequent M&M World and Madame Tussauds to take a picture with their fists up to a Muhammed Ali wax figure. If your idea of a good time is being herded like sheep and treated like an inconvenience, then by all means, visit Sarastro. For everyone else, save your sanity and go literally anywhere else. ----- I have to admire the creativity in your aggressive rebuttal, but let's not flatter ourselves by assuming that those "informative" emails ever made it to my inbox. Upon further investigation, it turns out they found their rightful home in the junk folder. Now, a quick heads-up to my fellow restaurateurs: I find it fascinating how defensive one can get over a bit of yogurt and couscous—items typically provided free of charge at any Turkish restaurant—but here at Sarastro, they come with a side of sarcasm and an extra fee, presumably to make up for the fact that most patrons wouldn't stick around for the main course. Given the consistent unprofessionalism and attitude of the staff, it's almost as if they're banking on people calling it quits early. Speaking of unaddressed issues, I noticed the owner’s indignant reply conveniently skipped over my mention of a staff member giving us a sarcastic watch-glance. Most people might take a bit of time deciding between two equally uninspired menus that look like they were fished out of a Christmas cracker. Lastly, the mention of our supposed “walking out without paying” was a charming touch, albeit a little hypocritical for someone accusing others of superiority complexes. We did indeed decide to leave, but only after taking into account the fact that our card details were on file and would be charged anyway. I simply had no desire to hand over cash to a waiter who thought it appropriate to mock a party of five for taking a moment to choose between “Bad” and “Worse”—especially when, yet again, no emails regarding your beloved set-menu rules were received. But hey, Sarastro, it's always a good sign when the highlight of your restaurant is the drama rather than the dining. Keep up the theatrics!

From the moment we arrived, it was clear this place prioritizes squeezing every last penny out of its customers over providing even the most basic hospitality. First, they had meze starters already sitting on the table when we were seated. For all I know, those dishes could have been there all day. Here’s the kicker—they’re not complimentary! You’re forced to pay for them as part of the meal, whether you want them or not. If your party has more than five people, forget about ordering from the à la carte menu. You’re shoved onto their overpriced and appalling set menu. And the “starter” on the set menu? Surprise, it’s the same meze already dumped on your table, so you don’t even get to choose! But the worst part? The staff. Never in my life have I encountered such rude, unprofessional, and frankly obnoxious waiters. The lack of basic English skills was one thing, but the blatant attitude was another. While I was still deciding what to order, a waiter came over, saw I hadn’t made a choice yet, and proceeded to huff loudly, roll his eyes, and check his watch right in front of me. Talk about patronising and disrespectful behavior. Thankfully, I walked out before subjecting myself to their terrible-looking food. Glancing at other tables, the dishes looked woeful—completely unappetising. I’d honestly rather eat my cat’s food than set foot in this establishment again. AVOID THIS PLACE LIKE THE PLAGUE. It’s a horrendous restaurant with atrocious service and a complete lack of care for customers. Never, ever again.

One of the best established dining and dancing spots in London with live music. Having frequented this place for more than 15 years I feel confident in validating its quality and unique charm.

As soon as you walk in you get the vibe. Very different decor to most places. Very cool. The blokes toilets art was interesting too 😜 Service was great and very friendly. Food was good. Don't think I've ever had lamb so tender. When we went it was very quiet (people wise) but it was so peaceful just eating in the environment listening to opera

Undeniably the star of the show here is the decor and the atmosphere, both of which are stunning. Also stunning is the music accompanying your meal. We had a string quartet, (superb) followed by two opera singers, (also superb). The food was good but there was a lack of vegetarian choices, only vegan options which was a bit poor, also lacking in protein. All in all, go to Sarastro you won’t be disappointed, we’ll definitely be going back.

The quirky decor combined with highly professional staff, great menu and highest quality food and live singer. - I literally cannot go anywhere else when I am in the west end. Bhanu did an amazing job with her service. It was really enjoyable to eat there and the food was really great. We took the mixed grilled plate. The tiramisu, the crème brûlée and baklavas for dessert. Recommend

A very quirky setting that offers a very different dining experience. The food is Turkish focused and we enjoyed starters and mains. We did hear someone comment that the baklava was very sweet. The staff were very friendly and the service was quick and efficient.

Sarastro is a great legendary Restaurant But the Atmsphere on Thursday Nights you can't top it with Colin Roy singing the old Skool, Soul ,Motown and some club Classic etc etc if you ask me this night should be available at weekends also so more customers can enjoy

One of a kind restaurant. You always see something new because of the extravaganza of props and decor pieces. Reasonably affordable food, tasted very good. If we are ever back in London we will come back here!

We had our lunch there, seabass, all starters, chicken, and boodrum kebabi. All were very nice, especially the chicken. We had baqlava for dessert but I wouldn't recommend it. Minez served us. She was nice and helpful. Explained the menu in detail. All of us enjoyed the meal.

This place makes me want to live here permanently. The food was fantastic and the place’s interior is like nothing I’ve ever seen. The service was super friendly and helpful with recommendations for food and drink. I’m there is one place I could recommend in all of London it’s here. A must visit.

Good food but the service was not as good, had to remind the staff several times in order to get our drinks after we received our food. A special restaurant nevertheless.

TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE. WE BOOKED USING THE NUMBER ON THE BUSINESS CARD AND THEY REFUSED to take us!! Even tho it was completely their mistake they treated us terrible at the door. Why do you put the number on the business card if then the person on the phone does not know how to take reservations??? Very rude and terrible experience would never come back- there are better restaurants out there!!! Been there before the food is mediocre but the place is nice however the service is terrible and their booking system is just a failure! They admitted the mistake but still were very rude, big no. Furthermore we had a disabled person in the group so we spent over 45£ of taxi to get there with a reservation but were turned away.

It was OK, food good, expensive for what we actually had. It was a bit strange that the server came out with half our order, then served other tables and then came back to us after 5 minutes. It wasn't that busy. It was ok-ish, just a little odd. Nice and quirky place to go though.

Wonderful OTT decor, fun ambience, charming service and delicious food. Best mousaka - great flavour and not at all oily. We’ll be back on a live music night! Recommended.

A place with a very surprising decoration, with live performances and where a great atmosphere reigns. The delicious food. The only bad thing for me is that at 11 they already invite you to leave. You don't even have to have a drink there if you go to dinner a little late as we Spaniards usually do.

Amazing atmosphere. Great decorations and design. Italian and venetian decoration elements make the incredible environment. Great live music performance.

First visit here but it rounded off a great visit to London. Food & service were excellent. The music & dancing was really fun. Happy to recommend this place for a fun night out.

I liked the vibe of the place, but the food and cleanliness wasn't up to part. We had the seabream dish for two and the beef kebab dish - overall, too greasy and not seasoned enough. We also felt that the prices didn't reflect the quality of the offering - and £5 for a small tap-poured, bubble-less "coke" is extortionate. Finally, there were discrepancues between the bill and the prices listed on the menu; apparently, they had mixed the old menus with the new ones. The waitor was kind though and offered us a 10% discount to make up for it. We won't be returning I'm afraid, mainly because we simply weren't impressed by the food.

The place looked promising… online. The decor is lovely however needs a deep clean. The music was nice but the ceiling was leaking near the tables, which were themselves unclean and full of crumbs. The menus we were given were old ones with lower prices than the new ones. The waiter was kind enough to give us 10% off the total bill as the actual prices weren’t reflected on the old menus. Unfortunately, the food was absolutely overpriced for what it was, it was bland and oily. Perhaps this place is better at night with entertainment. It felt like a tourist trap for us.

This restaurant was awful. Food was shocking. Food portions would bearly feed a weaning baby and totally overpriced for what you get. We left hungry and very disappointed.

What can we say about your restaurant just that it was the perfect Saturday evening experience ,meeting up with Aussie friends who are quite the wining and dining aficionados .So glad we chose you to come visit.We were so welcomed by the manager and staff .Their attention and commitment to diners was exceptional and the food was delicious as was the wine.Thank you so much.The decor both inside and out is sensational in many ways,not forgetting the rest rooms!,They are a work of art to say the least.Look forward to seeing you again soon .Not forgetting the added extra of live music too. Perfect relaxed spot tucked into the hustle bustle of Covent Garden.Well done everyone.

What a fun and truly unusual atmosphere! Unlike any place we have ever dined at. The food was excellent and the service (provided by a very charming Bhanu) added to the overall experience.

Throughly enjoyed this eclectic and fun restaurant! Unlike anyplace we have ever been! The food and service providing by a charming Bhanu were both excellent. We ordered a bottle of red wine, Akcabat Kofte and Bodrum Cokertme Kebabi (an amazing tasty dish!) Highly recommend dining here while in Covent Garden.

Super service and a very Nice place ( art déco style) with live music ( good singer) and good plates ans desserts. You can dance downstairs.

Quirky, fun for the experience and great quality food.

The best thing is the performance of the singer who livens up and animates the room, grab a table with a view of the center so you don't miss anything. We ended up dancing.

Went on a Tuesday night. Completely dead. Food was not good and seemed hurried. Before 9 pm they told us Kitchen is closing in half hour. The waitress kept coming back asking for order after 5 mins we had been there. It seems they're only worth going to at weekends.
