Waterstones Red Room in City of London, Westminster

It's great to have a coffee shop in the middle of a bookstore, especially if you are a mature student. Waterstones stocks a huge range of university books on a wide variety of subjects. You can browse, buy and relax over coffee and cake, or a sandwich and read your book. Or just watch the world flowing by.

Great place to relax while buying books. Had green tea and a cappuccino, they were ok.

Good coffee shop but pity it is in basement, not on top floor.

Coffee was good but apple and toffee cake could have been fresher. Also their WiFi was very slow.

A wonderfull place for a bookworm! I had a cinemmon bun hot chocolate and it tasted like a gift from heaven!! The slices of cake are the perfect size for a little snack. It was full but since it is still in a bookstore it wasn't too loud. Will definitly visit again!

Location and atmosphere is nice, comfortable chairs, view, staff. Internet is slow (I came to do some work and did not progress much , as my pages loaded forever). Selection of food is not my favourite(sweet bakery and packed sandwiches), but is standard for the Waterstones. I would go for a bit healthier options. In general, if you want to have chat with a friend or read a book drinking coffee/having a snack, it is a good place.

Freezing cold! Where's the heating enjoy the outside inside experience hmm but why!

Staff (13nov23, 14u15) kinda didn't really seem to care about good customer service, bordering rude even.

The drink I ordered was rather small compared to what I expected. If you are going to pay a lot for a drink, then make it a decent size mug or have tiny, standard, and regular sizes.

Beautiful and a big store, the books collection is fantastic. Cafe has a lot of options as well.

Best bookshop in the UK but stick to books ! Cafe in lower ground in Picadilly needs looking at.

It's a shame because this is such a nice cafe and atmosphere, but the attitude of one staff member just ruins it! As some of the other reviews have said... a woman with curly blonde hair. Raises her voice and shouts "What?!?" at you in an angry manner. Didn't give me milk or a spoon with my tea and rolled her eyes and slammed them down when I asked for them. It's a bit absurd that someone like this works here! I feel bad for the rest of the staff, I'm sure it's not fun to work with her.

Great coffee and good atmosphere. The opening times are a bit of a game of luck, sometimes might be open sometimes might be not.

Warm ambience the book store itself is huge and I like the fact that I can drink my coffee around so many books. Wi-Fi is also ok.

The wonderful light-filled cafe located on the ground floor, above the cards, boardgames and door to Jermyn St is marred by having such erratic opening times. It really is a game of chance as to whether you’ll find it open. It’s a shame because it’s one of the nicest cafes in the area. It’s much better than the oppressive windowless cafe in the basement of Waterstones.

As a regular customer to this bookstore and its cafe for more than a decade now, today (16/09)I was devastated by the extremely poor customer service by the staff working on the cafe upstairs. This staff, with a far-east Asian look and blond hair, was basically shouting at me and my three-year old when I placed the order….I was just saying" can I have a bottle of still water and carrot cake" and then she intentionally raised her voice and very rudely replied: "we dont have still water, tap water behind you!" very very rude! and I tried to confront her " why do you need to speak to me like that, if there is no water, just use your normal tone to speak or simply say we dont have water" .... she just kept that 'fake smile' with her without any responses, so disgusting! And when I said I dont need her to serve me and I would rather wait for the other staff to serve me, she said 'no' twice and went on to get my cake with an extremely disgraceful facial expression - she grimace (pretend to be smiling) directly at me and my kid. In the end, I told her, I dont need the food anymore. and I reported to the cafe manager right away, and was shocked to hear that this is not the first time that this staff has received such complaints. The manager said she will be now under investigation! So try to avoid this staff if you are concerned you will be racially discriminated by her, and I can tell you from my first-hand experience that she was treating White persons and people of colour very differently, such a racist person. A white british man was queueing before me and I can tell she was treating him in a millions way more nicely and then shouted at me later when it was my turn. How on earth Waterstone can allow such person to be working on its flagship store, where visitors from across UK and the world to pop by every day?? I am a regular to your cafe, and this person has ruined all my lovely experiences for the past 10 years! She basically lack the respect to customer, or just does not understand British culture! I sadly told the manager that I will no longer want to go to the cafe upstairs because of her (where I always have a seat by the window, so lovely). But this staff has completely ruined my experience, as long as she is still working there, I will not go there and will try to avoid this awful person. Waterstone Cafe, please take action! I express my huge thanks to another staff working upstairs, who was very kind to take me and my son to the downstairs cafe! The staff in the downstairs were also extremely helpful, considerate, and kind. They seems to know more about how to serve customers with great respect and care.

Beautiful spot for a quiet coffee/tea.

Fantastic staff, super nice. But the wifi is terrible for remote work. Couldn’t access in basement and had to go to mezzanine, but even there it was slow. A whopping 4.5 mbps at 2 in the afternoon. Wouldn’t recommend for those needing dependable wifi or planning to remote work.

Bad experience here asking for lunch. Salads on the menu but not available. After some confusion, I ordered a soup. It was microwaved (probably for too long) and after a long wait to be served, about half the microwaved pot was scraped into a bowl for me - presented as per the picture. A dribble at the bottom and up the sides. I commented to the staff who said "it's very hard pouring soup". That said, it's a nice looking space, the acoustics aren't bad given its gallery over the bookshop and what I tasted of the soup is nice (credit to the manufacturer!). Haven't spotted any plugsockets.

Petit café très bien , situé à l’intérieur de la librairie, pâtisseries de qualité et café excellent. Endroit calme et agréable, pour faire une pause lecture ou simplement discuter. Le service aurait pu être mieux, afin d’accélérer on a dû libérer notre table nous mêmes.

Decent coffee although service can sometimes be a little slow. The view is fantastic though, both looking out into Jermyn Street and down into the shop. A real book lover's paradise. I like how they have a very comprehensive magazine selection to browse here too.

This is a cafè!!! The place is nice and cosy, the staff are friendly and polite and the products are very high quality. Shut out to the barista at the top floor for the best latte in town, simply an artist.

Very good and used it to finish some work in the cafe area after it was closed. Shall remember this venue when I am in London after a meeting. Reasonable WiFi connection.

Love the bookshop, and love the refreshment areas in the basement and ground floor; nice hot drinks and fair selection teas and coffee. Haven't tried snacks. One downside: I personally think that displayed food should not be allowed to attract flies..yes, even the small fruitflies! Waterstones should start covering their counter-displayed food somehow, to overcome this..

Waterstones is the best for bargain or full price books, but with a cafe? Excellent

Good coffee shop downstairs with great choice of cakes and breads etc. Comfortable seating area. Being really central prices reflect that but comparable. Good spot to rest up and avoid the hubbub.

No soy capaz de verle el atractivo a este tipo de locales. En mi opinión son locales totalmente prescindibles.

Apresenta variedade de escolha, entre sandes mais elaboradas, para uma refeição mais completa, a pastelaria, e bebidas diversas de cafetaria. O local é agradável, tem esplanada. O staff mostra-se paciente e prestativo com os estrangeiros, tentando perceber o pretendido e esforça-se na comunicação. Bom para uma pausa e repor energia.

Estábamos buscando un lugar para relajarse al final de un servicio de almuerzo y este lugar resultó ideal. Un poco fuera de lo común de los compradores y turistas. No es el restaurante más grande, pero las mesas están bien espaciadas y no hay mucha gente. Una cálida bienvenida y un personal muy servicial con un menú decente, especialmente si solo está buscando un refrigerio, frío o caliente. Los precios tampoco son excesivos. Vale la pena buscarlo.

Le Waterstone sur Jermyn Street est facilement dans mon TOP3 des librairies préférées au monde. L'étage dédié au rayon jeunesse est juste merveilleux. Au rez-de-chaussée, il y a plein de tables rondes avant des coups de coeur des libraires de tous les rayons. A chaque fois que j'entre, je me sens toute émerveillée.

Tomé un té y un sándwich de queso tostado y la otra mitad tomé un sándwich de queso y tomate y un café. Servicio un poco lento El té y el café están bien, los sándwiches están bien. ¡Un buen lugar para descansar antes de continuar en nuestro agotado día lleno de compras!

Sospecho que hay una cafetería diferente en lo alto, pero nos atrajo el anuncio del té de la tarde para encontrar el café en el primer piso y reírnos de esta descripción y ofrecer té con un bollo. El té y los bollos son buenos, pero también buscan algo sabrosísimo y solo se ofrecen bollos y pasteles. Entonces sospecho que necesitas ir al 5 ° piso. El personal divertido no explicó esto.

Este es un peculiar en Waterstones café en la entrada de la calle jermyn. Sirve café ypasteles de calidad interesante.La única cosa rara es la vez personal el día que visité eran tener una conversación bastante ruidoso con el otro y que los miembros de la familia. Me pareció un poco inapropiado. De lo contrario, una experiencia agradable.

A lovely place to sit and enjoy your lunch even if you are on your own. Good basic menu, salads, sandwiches, burgers etc. They serve a good glass of wine too. I notice there were a lot of solo diners which was nice to know.
