Visited for the festive lunch but found the experience disappointing, very slow service spoiled it, had to wait 40mins for starter of pate and soup, altogether 1 hour 15 mins for a two course lunch. We don’t want to be rushed but thought this was poor. The table was set for afternoon tea so we had to ask for cutlery and salt and pepper overall everything took too long.

Sunday lunch was very disappointing, very little choice and when the main arrived we thought they had forgotten to put the meat on the plate. Desserts well didn’t get to try as they had ran out of our choice. Coffee arrived and it was served in a mug! Just not the horsley lodge like it use to be with class

Had a superb Fillet Steak at the restaurant with desert that did not disappoint only reason for giving only 4 instead of 5 stars is that the wife said her meat in her Steak & Ale Pie was a little tough. Excellent service with a pleasant atmosphere in the restaurant due to lovely staff.

Booked the champagne breakfast, good start the continental food served quickly then ordered hot food but had to wait well over an hour for this. The food was good although one of the orders was wrong, but after such a long wait kept it. And we still were not served the champagne. We asked for the bill and said we hadn't had the champagne, we had booked for, waitress said do you want it now!!!!! Sorry much too late.!! Food was good but the service was terrible!! We didn't really get much of an apology either. We had been looking forward to ending the year with a champagne breakfast, but just got a breakfast which we could have gone to a cafe for. Very disappointed

Receptionist very pleasant who when we arrived showed us to our table, where the waiter came and went over the allergies we noted when booking. Sandwiches & range of cakes were to much too eat so they boxed the cakes we couldn't eat for us to take home. A very pleasant experience in superb surroundings, one of the best Afternoon Teas we have had.

My wife and I had a very pleasant Afternoon Tea in the restaurant at Horsley Lodge. Agreeable view from the well maintained, stylish and clean restaurant over part of the golf course. Wide choice of teas served in vintage china. Sandwiches were all fresh, with appetising fillings – followed by a selection of mouth-watering cakes. Staff were all very professional whilst being helpful and friendly.

We were married at Horsley lodge 10 years ago. Yesterday was our anniversary and we wanted to have a romantic meal just the 2 of us. The servers were lovely but oh dear... The meal. Firstly let me say that the menu was limited and had nothing to excite the taste buds. In fact there was a couple who actually got up and left saying to us that there thought the menu was rubbish and they were going to eat else where. We would have done the same but we wanted to celebrate our wedding anniversary were we got married. We both ordered the mushrooms and they came. Both were luke warm. I sent my back immediately as the side salad was brown round the edges and obviously old! We asked for the wine menu and choose our wine. No one came to take our order and after the second course and still sign of the bar man, w my husband had to leave his meal and wait at the bar to be served. The main meal came and I had the chicken supreme which was nothing like a chicken supreme. The chips were burnt and the peas were over cooked, cold and were dimpled like reheated peas would be. We did complain to the server and I told her to tell the manager and asked where he was. He was behind the bar. Never once did he come over to see how the meal was, never came across to apologise and basically didn't move away from the bar. I have to say that it was not busy and he could have very easily come over but instead he left the youn server to make the apogise which she did numerous times. We did tell a few people why we were there and there was no interest from the manager at all. Mr salt, you need to address these issues. You lost a couple who didn't even stay for a drink and needless to say, we will think twice before coming again. What should have been a lovely memory for myself and my husband ended up ruining our anniversary. It was so disappointing. Carol colley

Visited on Tuesday 21st May 2019. My husband and I invited two friends and an elderly relative to join us for lunch in the restaurant. Having been several times before and always enjoyed the meal and hospitality we were looking forward to a pleasant lunchtime spent with friends.Unfortunately our lunchtime experience did not meet our expectations. It was in fact embarrassing. We were greeted and seated efficiently and our pre lunch drinks came and we perused the lunchtime menu.1. The atmosphereIt soon became apparent that on a table adjacent to us two people were working and administering a business. It was not a working lunch, it was an ‘office’ which was apparent with all the paperwork scattered around. To our astonishment one of these people was joined by what I would describe as a ‘physiotherapist’ who discussed at length a back problem with one of the people and then asked said person to stand and proceeded to examine their back. I know all this as it took place within 6ft of our table. The ‘physiotherapist’ then left.At least three times during our lunch business phone calls were made on their mobile phones and such was the volume that we were unable to continue with our own lunchtime conversation because they were so loud.2. Value for money. The two gentlemen in our party ordered Pie of the Day, which were fine. The three ladies all ordered grilled swordfish at £14.95 per head. When our dish was served we sat waiting in anticipation for some vegetables. When none arrived we enquired and were informed that vegetables were extra. One of my party decided to order vegetables, these arrived at the second time of asking. Three new potatoes cut in half, served with a small piece of swordfish and white wine sauce are not in my book value for money at £14.95.Four of my party ordered desserts with trepidation, but they were fine.Altogether we had a very disappointing experience.I completed a comments form and it was 9 days before I had any acknowledgement or reply. Apparently the person who dealt with the reviews was on holiday. Horsley Lodge apologised and said my comments would be taken onboard.Sorry Horsley Lodge but I shall not be returning and I shall certainly not be recommending.

We called in here for lunch and a few drinks on Friday , the views from the terrace were calling us once again. The weather was fabulous and we were enjoying our lunch time catch up. We ordered a mix off meals with the only consistency being the twice cooked chips, however on this occasion all of these came out more like five times cooked than twice. Not making a big deal of it we just left the majority uneaten, Now as any good waiter would , when he came to clear the plates commented on the amount of uneaten food , we explained we thought as obvious to the eye they were very over cooked . Now things got a little odd as the waiter said he would deduct the portions from the bill, we said we had paid cash already at the bar and but he did know more than say oh well and disappeared . Obviously refunding cash was not a consideration, ODD

Always been a fan of Horsley Lodge. We got married here eleven years ago, and several members of our family have this at the top of their prefered venue list to celebrate Birthdays, Anniversaries, or just for a get together over lunch or an evening meal. Therefore we were extremely disappointed with the service we received at todays lunch (24/7/18) We felt very unwelcome and received very curt service. This was a week day and we were the only two people in the restaurant and bar. The service was rushed, the staff rude and abrupt. We should have left, but when you're a fan of a venue we remained hoping that the mood would lighten and the waiters improve. The food, and the location, were fabulous as usual.

My friend and I stopped off for a light lunch and being as it was a hot day we decided to sit in the outside area looking over the goat course. Lovely as it was we soon found the hot sun was too hot on top of our heads and asked the bar staff if it would be possible to put the umbrella up to protect us a little, she checked but told us they couldn’t open it sorry. We accepted this bit confused but fine, a short time later a group of obvious golf club members came within minutes they asked for the parasol to be open which it was straight away. When we asked why it was different for them to when we asked they didn’t have an answer nor did they come back with one. Clearly if your a member you get better treated than just a regular customer! We then decided to take our customer to Morley Hayes where the customer service was fantastic!

Decided on a few Tapas dishes, 6 in all and they were very good, tasty and a decent portion size with service that was quick and efficient, thank you Adam. A couple of minor niggles, perhaps dim the lighting a little in the evening to give it a little more atmosphere and also have a member of staff to meet/greet you and show you to a table, we just walked into the restaurant and sat down.

We visited Horsley Lodge for the first time today for Sunday lunch to celebrate my birthday. When booking I had mentioned that it was a significant birthday but this was not mentioned at all during our visit. The greeting from the receptionist was good and we were then directed in to the bar and once we had drinks to our table. The waiter was attentive and when we asked questions about the food they were able to answer them all. Our order was taken and we awaited our food. The starters were fine, although we were all surprised that there was no bread offered. When our main courses came out none of our requests seemed to have been met, although they had been written down by the waiter. This led to us finding the original waiter and asking him to sort it out, which he did. However, it meant one of the party had to wait for their meal. The food was served on cold plates so all our food cooled down quickly, the roast potatoes lacked crispness and the Yorkshire’s were cold. All in all it was a disappointing meal. Whilst we were eating we did hear others make comments about the food. The deserts were ok, again nothing amazing.

I visited Horsley Lodge for Sunday dinner with the family. It’s been a while since I last visited and have to say that the restaurant looked great as did the refurbished toilets. The experience got off to a shaky start, we were handed a load of menus (not passed to each individual person), which were stained. We asked for some water and was bought one glass despite there being water glasses on the table, also whilst being given our drinks the waitress spilled a load of liquid on the floor by my partners bag, which was never cleared up. Upon being given our meals we weren’t asked if we wanted any condiments.

not sure if we have been very unlucky or if people are not very particular. My brother and his wife gave me a voucher for afternoon tea for two and paid £35.90. I duly booked a table for 3.00pm as advised on my voucher. We arrived around 2.45pm, were immediately shown to a table and asked which tea we would like. I ordered breakfast tea and my husband ordered coffee. So far so good. We then waited another 20mins for waiter to bring out 8 fingers of sandwich (approx 2 slices of bread in total), 2 cup cakes, 2 pieces of lemon cake and two pieces of carrot cake.(don't be fooled by the word pieces, they were bite size) Also on cake stand pieces of turkish delight and two round things (sorry don't really know what they were). We also had 4 supposed scones with cream and jam. The sandwiches were average tasting. The cup cakes very dry. My husband had a piece of lemon cake and I had carrot cake. We then asked if we could take scones and rest of cake home and were told we could. Assumed waiter would bring something out to put them in but after another wait had to ask. We tried to eat the scones later and they were so hard we could not get our teeth into them. In all I would say the total cost of food was under £5. I know you have staff to pay. Plus we expected the place to be packed and it was empty. I don't think I have ever been so disappointed in anything before and I cannot decide what to tell my brother and his wife as they had obviously gone to alot of trouble with my present. As you can imagine we will not return. We even had to wait to pay and I was then given a card and told it was a loyalty card. Don't think I will be using it

The grounds looked beautifully kept and inside the restaurant was very clean and decor quite modern. We had a hot drink (which turned out to be only warm) whilst we looked over the lunch menu. The lunch menu was quite limited so much so that we didn't stay for lunch after all and went elsewhere. It was too bright and clinical for us we enjoy more cosy surroundings when we eat out, we want to be comfortable and take our time and we didn't feel any atmosphere here. Sorry

Having eaten at the other 2 neighbouring golf clubs, this was by far seriously sub standard, from dirty cutlery, lack of enthusiastic staff who looked bored and were unatentive, to a steak the size and shape of unrisen scone which I could have used as shoe leather if I could have put my steak knife through it!

We were invited to a wedding here on Saturday 4th February. Nice location and adequate car parking with security cameras. Staff are helpful and friendly. First things I noticed, though only minor I know, were the name of the bridegroom was spelt incorrectly on the main door and then in the room where the wedding was taking place a bulb was out on the chandelier. However the food is another matter. The bride and groom had decided on a barbecue for their main meal. The first batch of burgers, sausages etc were cooked fine. From the second batch onwards, guests remarked that their food was only just cooked, burgers, still red in the middle, chicken kebabs not cooked thoroughly. The bride complained, as she had cut up her sons burger to notice it wasn't cooked all the way through. but it didn't seem to make much difference to the member of staff. One guest at my table decided not to take any chances and cut the burger and chicken into small pieces to take home to her dog.The dessert was too sweet and the ice cream was bland. Coffee cup wasn't too clean when that arrived. The buffet was served later in the evening. The sandwiches were stuck together and felt damp, the pizza slices were tasteless. The staff were helpful but didn't seem too interested in complaints, only to get everything to the tables. In my opinion if you intend to look for a wedding venue and you have plenty of guests to cater for, I would seriously consider using Horsley Lodge and look at the Breadsall Priory instead, a short distance from here. I had no complaints when I went there for a wedding.

Visited for Sunday lunch - 3 generations and the menu suited all - really looking forward to it. We decided to skip starters so we could focus on desserts ! 2 of the men chose fish pie which was tiny - looked lost on the plate - I ended up donating some of my meal as my other half was starving ! I had roast pork which was lovely but what the heck had the chef done to the parsnips ?! Just a huge slice quite firm - I love parsnips but these weren't how I like mine cooked - were they roasted ?! It wasn't my other halfs day obviously as his choice of apple crumble was served in a glass high ball in layers - cream / apple purée / granola - absolutely awful - a deconstructed masterchef mess. Such a shame as it all sounded and looked promising.

The lunch menu was 2 courses for £16 or 3 course for £19. As the lunch menu had many of the evening menu choices, we chose to eat from the lunch menu. The prawn cocktail was lovely and the beef brisket main was beautiful and I would definitely recommend it. He staff were attentive and pleasant and the wine was lovely. I will be returning.

We have visited this restaurant several times over the years. It has been beautifully refurbished recently. The setting is superb and luxurious Just one thing though, there was very little for vegetarians. Even so the food was delicious and served fresh and piping hot

We were travelling back from Nottinghamshire after a family visit and decided to seek out a Sunday lunch using TripAdvisor. So pleased we did! On arrival we explained we hadn't booked but this was no issue. We were given a lovely table for two by the window where we watched the golfers (some good, some, er.... needing practise!). Not a carvery thank goodness as I don't like them, but a fixed price menu - at the time of visiting £16.95 for 2 courses or £19.95 for 3. I was greedy and had 3 because the meal was superb. Beef bonbons to start, roast ham for main, then cheesecake for pudding. All were sublime. Not enormous servings, just enough to leave you satisfied but not bloated. Excellent service, attentive without being intrusive and the timing was spot on. This is likely to become a regular stop on the family visit trip - happy to recommend a visit

The surroundings and table looked beautiful but the afternoon tea was very poor. When booking, the receptionist asked if we had any special dietary requirements and we asked for no red meat to be included. Unfortunately, when our sandwiches arrived there were beef sandwiches on the plate along with various other big looking sandwiches, too fat for an afternoon tea (no garnish and no thought given at all to the presentation) We asked the waitress if she could exchange these which she did and proceeded to bring 3 tuna sandwiches instead looking very anaemic ( a variety would have been great!)

Had a fantastic Sunday lunch here yesterday with family and it was lovely! Great food, great place/decor, great views (helped by great weather!), great service and lovely, helpful and friendly staff! Good prices too! Cauliflower cheese was so good and cooked perfectly with crispy cheesy topping, excellent selection of veg, very crispy and delicious roasties, meats were lean, nice & thick, very tasty and cooked 'just right'! Only one very small suggestion: would be even more perfect if the fish choice on the Sunday menu was a 'boneless' fish fillet of some sort - Personal preference only as 'put off' by fish bones, but have to say 'bones on or bones off' the whole plaice still looked good on the next door table!! Will definitely be coming back with more friends and family as also heard the 'steak deal' night is great! Many thanks to you all - very pleased this is back on the map - as it so deserves to be!

Went for Sunday lunch with family for special birthday treat. It really is a lovely place in a beautiful setting. The whole place is very pleasant with a relaxed feel to it. As it was Sunday lunch it is a set menu with four or five choices for each course, pick from 2 or 3 courses. All the food was well presented and hot, served by attentive staff. Just 2 points though you did not get bread roll with soup, and sme of the veg was under cooked and quite raw. Was not a problem to us but not to everyone's taste. However very enjoyable and would go again.

Booked a table for four at 7.30pm so we got there for 7.00pm, we was then taken to our table at 7.30pm, when it came to ordering we were told they had run out of steaks, (on steak night) nobody was really concerned so went else where, service really poor, never to return.

We were excited to share a dear friends birthday celebrations in a wonderful Derbyshire setting, the sun was shining and the countryside looked beautiful sitting at our table in the Brasserie, sad to say that is where all the positives must stop. The warning signs of an ongoing wedding party should have rung warning bells. The dinner menu read well with some interesting dishes that none of the waiting staff who served us were capable of explaining as was the case from the kitchen when asked. The beef rib starter was pure fat and lacked any meat, the ribeye steaks were very fatty and lacked flavour and seasoning, the accompaniment of picked onion rings was interesting BUT the chips were re-fried, hard, cold and late to arrive - we had half eaten our main before they were delivered. The 6 rib-lamb chops turned out to be 3 and not cooked to liking despite asserting so. Overall a poor meal which we only paid 50% of total with a bottle of fizz for compensation. Went home utterly dissapointed. Staff, including chef acknowledged poor effort.

I had spent quite some time on the internet and chose this establishment carefully...or so I thought. Must admit the two phone calls I made, one to bookan a "Vintage Afternoon Tea" and the other to confirm were received with no niceties at all. There was a warning bell then but it looked so lovely! Arriving the place looks beautiful with trimmed golf course and water. Greeted by an unsmiling lady who showed us to the dining area with no pleasantries. Lovely view from the balcony and light and airy dining area. A waitress then directed us to our table. No table cloth just a wooden table with old fashioned china....nice idea, however my cup had a chip in it and the silver tea strainer had NEVER been cleaned. I asked for a replacement cup. It came and had not been washed properly and very obvious. Definitely got that sinking feeling. Tea order was taken and duly arrived in a very small pot (everywhere else would be for one person) with cracked lid and no hot water??? I knew now things were not good. Then tiered food arrived. Finger sandwiches choice of three were certainly not what you would call dainty. Sitting with two large ramekins, one with cream and the other jam to go with two enormous fruit scones. Next plate 2 panacotta in little beakers that were covered in brown sticky marks, disgusting. Also accompanied by what looked like 2 tiny pieces of brown concrete with fingermarks on them. Top tier four bits of dried out looking sponge cake of indeterminate origin! I have had afternoon teas before and never had anything that looked as plain and unappetising as this. I complained to the young lady who fetched the manager. Give him his due he handled things well. I pointed out that the menu talked about shortbread, macaroons etc. He explained the cakes changed etc and replaced my whole cup setting for another. He then appeared with a plate with 2 macaroons, 2 shortbread and a fudge sweet. The macaroon was so old it was like a piece of hard crisp biscuit-like a ginger snap. The shortbread tasted of rancid butter. My companion had a glass of wine, but like me was unable to eat virtually anything. At check out the manager did not charge and I offered to pay for the wine but this was refused. I am sure he knew what they were serving was sub-standard. I am astonished that an organisation like this on a golf course, can get away with this and expect customers to accept the quality of service and food they are providing. Serving plain food is fine if it is edible and clean, there is no excuse otherwise. A huge disappointment for something I wanted to be special for my relative. A course on customer service, food hygiene and preparation, among respect for the customer might not go amiss here!

We have visited the Brasserie at Horlsey Lodge four times now and each time has been faultless. Superb food, in a relaxed, classy establishment it is fast becoming my favourite go-to restaurant. It's much less pricey than it's local rival the Dovecote at Morley but having eaten several times at both I would definitely recommend this over the Dovecote. The food is superior, the staff friendly and knowledgeable and it's just a much more chilled out atmosphere, which personally I prefer. If you're looking for great, high-quality food and friendly, personal service, Horsley Lodge is your place.

We ate at the Brasserie for the first (and last) time on Saturday night. There were so many areas where improvement was needed that what we had hoped would be an above average meal and service turned into what I can only describe as a farce. Personal service was lacking generally, with often young and very inexperienced staff bringing food to the table, who seemed to not have a clue - and clearly needed training. Too many staff attending to tables rather than specific staff assigned to individual tables just did not work.

I visited the Brasserie at Horsley with two friends for dinner and we all agreed that the food was very very good indeed. There were lovely little extra touches like home made bread and a parsnip hot appetiser that was to die for, both served before your meal. We all had different dishes and our clean plates spoke volumes. The decor and service was also delightful. What we also liked was the time lapse between courses, nothing was hurried and therefore made for a very relaxed atmosphere. I had the beef short rib and it just melted in your mouth, followed by the caramel soufflé an extremely lovely pudding. If you fancy indulging yourself book a table at this restaurant and you will not be disappointed.

Beautiful place and great ambience, not over crowed with tables and the new deco is excellent. The free parsnip soup was delicious, starters of the beetroot salad & mackerel was presented excellently and were very tasty. We had Lamb chops for main, mine were cooked lovely, the wives was a little tough. The mix of flavours on the plate are great but a little more sauce would have helped. Overall the chef is doing a great job with really well presented high class food. The down side of the restaurant are errors which could easily be put right with a little care and training of staff. We had to carry our own drinks to the table and no one offered to take our coats until after we were sat at the table. Once sat we were given some breads but no explanation of what type of breads or butter. Trying to spread the butter was a feat as it was that hard it was more like cheese. We asked for some soft butter which the waitress then brought some ordinary butter which was not really much softer. There was no offer of water for the table, the candle was not lit and when we asked for mint sauce it came in a glass screw top jar with the label removed. The staff do not hold your chair out for you and the waiters do not fill your wine glass. The wine offered is a fairly big choice but we like a Shiraz and there was none on the menu and the waiter did not give advice on a bottle which could be a similar taste. If a restaurant is to advertise fine dinning these points need to be sorted out. Maybe a trip to the dovecote or Rowleys in derby city is required to look at how top service is achieved. There did not seem like there was a floor manger which maybe some experience like this is required. The staff were really nice and polite and with some training I am sure they would be really good.

The newly refurbed restaurant is beautifully done, there is a really nice ambience. The food is very good, however, at a price, it is quite expensive. There were only two other tables occupied on the Friday night we visited, in fact there seemed more staff than diners. OK it was January. This is a special occasion venue, not somewhere the average person can afford to visit regularly. I hanker after the days - probably 15 years ago when we used to visit regularly on a Friday night, you couldn't get a table if you arrived later than 7 pm, the food was good and excellent value. Is it better to have a full restaurant serving good food at affordable prices which is always full or a fine dining restaurant serving excellent food but which is nearly empty? We will go again but only on a special occasion.

I was taken to The Brasserie at Horsley Lodge for a family meal and had such fantastic evening. The staff are an absolute credit to the place. They were friendly, attentive and knowledgable. We arrived a little early and were seated in the bar area where we indulged in the cocktail of the evening, which was a nice touch. Once at the table the food arrived promptly and it was absolutely delicious. I had the steak,as did my partner, and it was cooked perfectly. The others in the party had the lamb cutlets and the cauliflower risotto and again delicious. We then had desserts which were beautifully presented and tasted fantastic. The staff were very attentive and very professional, keeping us topped up with drinks. A fabulous evening for anyone who loves food. Well done.
