Impromptu lunch and couldn’t have been more impressed. Beautiful surroundings, friendly and very competent, professional staff. Excellent menu and the food was phenomenal - beautifully prepared and presented. Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend - thank you!

We had a very welcoming experience, we came with our two dogs, and our waiter, Matt, was particularly helpful with guiding us through the menu and becoming friends with our dogs! We had a great time, and food was delicious. The QR code that lead you to the online menu which showed all the allergens was amazing and very useful for us. There was great vegan and vegetarian options as-well as meat options. Would 100% come again and maybe you’ll be lucky enough to be served by Matt! We wanted to tip, unfortunately we had no cash, and aren’t sure whether we were given the option at payment. Wonderful visit to the Cock Inn!

We dined here yesterday, our first ever visit, and can’t recommend this beautiful restaurant enough! From start to finish our every need was catered for by Matt, who was super polite and friendly, went above and beyond to make us feel so welcome and answered all of our questions. The food was spectacular! We had the burger, the fish and chips and two of us had the steak and mushroom pie, we were all very pleased with the taste and quality of the food (as could be seen by our clean plates afterwards 😊) Huge complements to the chef. As a carer, I would definitely recommend this place if wanting somewhere disabled friendly and accessible for wheelchairs, it has big and spacious walkways and a large downstairs toilet. The local views are stunning, and we can’t wait to come back in the summer to dine outside. Thanks Matt for making our first visit here an unforgettable one! 10/10

Another great meal. We ate here last year and came back again for the new year and once again it was fantastic. The food was stunning nothing was too much trouble and as always lovely friendly staff and not to forget they are so welcoming. A favourite of ours for good reason.

What an amazing pub. Lovely ambience, wonderful staff and great food. It was so good we ate there on 2nights. The staff were so friendly and made us very welcome. It is also dog friendly, a big plus for us. Our pooch was very well looked after too. We cannot reccommend this eatery highly enough, nor the lovely poeple working there. A must visit pub. We've been to this pub on a couple of occasions recently, once for my Birthday in October with my wife and once as a family of 5 for Sunday lunch. Both visits were really disappointing, meaning that I don't think we will be returning in a hurry... We have been patrons for a while, and previously we've been really really happy. The food was always excellent as was the service. But sadly, no more. The birthday dinner in October was really below the standard we came to expect. Items missing from our order, and the standard was not at all good. Bland, cold and lacklustre. The same can be said about our visit on Sunday. Parts of our order were fridge cold. Not like they had been sitting out for a while, but fridge cold... The staff were attentive, and the tall head waiter chap was engaging and helpful, but the 'spark' that made this place such a destination restaurant has well and truly left the building. The setting and the building itself remains beautiful. I don't know if this place is under new management, or if it has new owners but I hope they take this review in the spirit in which it is meant and that they make the changes needed to get the place back on track....

Lovely welcoming ambience even though pub not busy. Staff charming and attentive but not overbearing. Bar service very good and food ordering efficient. Both of us had beefburger which was excellent, well cooked, fresh a flavourful. The chunky chips were only just warm which we mentioned to our server who apologised and within a couple of minutes replaced them. We were both impressed with our experience and also impressed when issues are dealt with so well. Would highly recommend and will definitely return. Thank you!!!

Been here a few times now and while the food good for this sort of fair the service is drastically lacking.. we had a table of 5 (pre booked) was shown to our table with menus then left for 20mins had to flag someone down for a drink..(we ordered food at the sane time to prevent starvation) 60% of the drinks turned up one was wrong... meals turned up then the rest of the drinks turned up... my food was very nice bit others were not that happy with theirs.. We were then left again till we flagged someone down for the desert menu... I would of loved another drink but alas nobody came to ask.. Probably short staffed.. who knows?

Only went in for a drink after a January walk around the countryside but stayed for a lovely lunch. Staff were friendly and helpful. The crab linguine was excellent, tasty and a big portion. Beer was good and revived me after a 5 mile walk in the mud and water of a wet period thatbwe had just had. Certainly worth going to this off the beaten trrack gastro pub!

We stayed in a pod outside, they are a good idea as they have music playing and even a heater if it is cold. The food is of a high quality with good size portions.

Slow service costly food for the service.

A Christmas family get together was our reason for meeting at The Cock. It was a random choice so no preconceived ideas on the experience. Due to the number in our party we pre ordered our food from the festive menu. There was a good£ atmosphere in the restaurant and we were quickly called through from the bar when the table was ready. I had chosen the trout pate and it was very tasty. There was a lot of trout but I ate every morsel. I heard no complaints from anybody else, with the soup gaining positive comments. We had a bit of a wait for the main courses but with the size of our party this could be expected. I would rathe4 wait and everyone get their food at the same time rather than it coming in dries and drabs. The turkey was well cooked and served with accompanying vegetables that were also well cooked. The beef was well received as was the vegetable wellington. The deserts were large portions and some of the party had difficulty finishing theirs. We all agreed that the food and setting was excellent and the best recommendation I can give is that we are likely to go back next year.

We had a family meal to celebrate my birthday a few weeks back, table was booked for 7:00 and we was sat the at the table waiting for food which finally came out at 8:50 and was luke warm and not overly good quality meat (more fat and bone than meat) overall service is extremely slow, very expensive for very small portions, i would say most recent reviews on here are accurate

Lovely food and the staff were very nice but the noise from the live music and party in the bar area was horrendous. We asked to be moved but this was not possible. I feel we should have been informed the music would encroach into the restaurant area. We, and other people, complained and the staff were very apologetic but unable to do anything about it. I feel some recompense should have been offered and we were all surprised it wasn’t. As we came a good way to go for this meal it was a disappointing experience.

A cosy, country pub with a good menu - plenty of choices that were competitively priced. Our meals were superb and we found all of the staff friendly and professional.

We have visited thus lovely establishment several times, including Xmas day lunch, and it's always been good. How things have changed. The phone is never answered so you have to book on line. On arrival with my elderly Father we were shown to our table one of the very nice staff. We commented that it was cold inside and asked for the heating to be turned up, not very inviting. The food arrived on tepid plates, the food itself was only just warm and soon went cold. The 3 tiny pots of vegetables were slso cold and were of megre size. They offered to change these, but as they were already our plates, there seemed little point. Desserts arrived and I think portion control was order of the day here. Altogether a very disappointing experience when the could do a lot better. I put our findings to the them in a very nice e mail, reiterating that it was just feed back and they could do better. To this day, I haven't had the courtesy of a reply.

The restaurant was very, very, very cold and the service was very, very, very slow. Sat for an hour and a half in the bitter cold. People were wearing big heavy outdoor coats and scarves but still shivering with the cold. Ended up coming home for hot deserts and hot drinks just to try and thaw out. A most unpleasant experience. Need to install some supplementary heating for the atrium area and get some more staff on board.

Truly awful. Avoid like the plague. I used to love this place but called today for dinner and it was shocking. Cold, dry food, rubbish service, ran out of nearly everything on the menu. £21 for two tiny slices of overcooked and microwaved beef! Give a wide berth.

We went Sunday for my birthday with my daughter & her family. It was a celebration for my daughter’s birthday in a couple of days as well. We had told them this was our favourite place and how great it was. What a mistake! I could have cried. We were sat at our table in the bar area which was empty when we arrived. We waited and waited and no one came to the table so I went to the bar & asked if they take the drink orders or we order at the bar. The girl was very curt & said she’d be over. Eventually we gave our drinks order we then waited ages & ages for the drinks to finally arrive. Quite a bit later they took our food order. That eventually arrived and there was no horseradish & we weren’t asked if we’d like any. I went to the bar spoke to the same girl & she said “ well did you ask for any” she stomped over to our table and said “so what’s the issue here”. We were shocked at the way we were treated. We paid £21 for the Sunday Lunch which wasn’t even worth the money for 2 small slices of beef. Anything else you asked for was extra. Never again, can’t believe the place has gone down hill so much. Very sad.

I’d give a negative star for service if possible. We had made a reservation on a Sunday to celebrate a birthday with the family (which they were aware of when booking) and at first all seemed well. The garden area was pretty and the restaurant looked nice, staff were pleasant, even the starters came and went okay. However when we got to dinner it all went drastically and suddenly downhill. We’d placed a relatively simple order; 3x trio of meats roast, 1x chateaubriand (to share for 2), 2x beef roasts and 1x sea bass. No special requests or allergies. When the mains came out, the staff brought what they told us were 2x pork roasts, which no one had ordered to then tell us that they weren’t pork but a trio, which we had ordered. After these first 2 roasts were placed down we noticed the plates were missing most of what they should’ve had. The trio was supposed to have all 3 meats, beef, chicken, pork, veg, crackling, apple sauce, bread sauce. We’d additionally confirmed with the waitress that they would have stuffing too as this was part of the chicken roast. Our plates had the smallest sliver of chicken (McDonald’s nuggets are bigger), the fattiest piece of pork and no beef as well as no bread or apple sauce or stuffing. The plate was also the messiest presentation with gravy dripping everywhere. When this was flagged to the waitress who took our order she took only one of the two plates back and even when returning there was still no sauce. We then mentioned the other trio was missing the same items so she came back and returned with a semi- corrected plate (no crackling or sauces). The beef added on one plate looked more like bacon it was so well done, crispy and thin! However this wasn’t the end of the trio saga - whilst this was happening everyone else was getting their plates which were fine. Shortly after, the third trio roast came out, again wrong in the exact same way which we had to flag to that staff. Having worked in hospitality and service before you’d think they’d check before serving?! Once the mains were sorted, no one asked whether we wanted any sauces (again, a standard thing when serving roasts at least at competent restaurants). as the trios should’ve came with at least apple sauce or bread sauce we’d asked for apple, mint, Dijon mustard and a little extra gravy. We had to follow up 3 times with 2 different waitresses, one of whom was our tables waitress and took our orders/“fixed” the trios. after around 5 minutes a platter of 2x mint sauce, apple sauce and gravy came out, this placed precariously off the edge of our table next to my visibly elderly grandma which again you’d surely think twice about given there was room for the sauces at the middle of the table. By this point half the table had finished their dishes whilst others were still waiting for sauces promised earlier. The waitress told us she’d come back with Dijon and low and behold never did, instead was stood directly behind us sorting cutlery! We actually checked with the waitress as to whether you had Dijon as I know a few places don’t and she confirmed you did - if you don’t have it save my time and your own efforts and let me know. We were waiting for the sauce but decided to make a start without the mustard and thank goodness we did as it never turned up. Throughout the meal, no one came to check on us, clearly as they knew we were still missing a requested sauce. The most confusing thing is why we weren’t just told you didn’t have Dijon?? When plates were cleared this was flagged to our waitress who acted shocked that we hadn’t received the Dijon, despite specifically asking her multiple times and it being her that said she’d be back with it. All in all the food was very average but ultimately the service ruined it. We’ve just been on holiday where we had average food but service was exceptional which makes you forget about the bland food you’re eating but this unfortunately wasn’t the case here. Having never been before I was genuinely excited to eat here but for sure not return after this. Wasted over £300!
