Well, what a surprise, it is never certain how a place will measure up even if the reviews look great, cannot agree with a recent negative posting, was the poster somewhere else? Last night 18/04 we enjoyed a fantastic dinner at Penycae Inn, from the minute we walked in we were warmly greeted by smiling friendly staff, what an asset that is to have a team all on board with delighting their customers, it is exceptionally rare to see that applying to ALL the staff team. Anyway, we chose 2 Beef Rib and 1 Linguine, plates arrived HOT, portions generous and well presented, taste of the rib beef with the jus quite stunning really. The owners and staff team should be very proud of what they all achieved last night. A generous tip was obviously deserved. Very highly recommended indeed. Thank you.

Was stood in the queue since 2:45pm and due to the guy behind the till being the slowest server I’ve ever experienced- he stated they stop at 3pm so can’t let me order off the menu, when leaving to find somewhere else I noticed the time was 2:56pm so the guy behind the till was outright lying to me to avoid having to hassle himself- sandwiches were coming out of the kitchen even as I was being served so it felt like a complete insult. There was absolutely no signage stating times for the menu either on the door or menu board above the counter, the fact he was so slow serving low value coffee and single scoops of ice cream to others pushed potential sales out of the window for others waiting to order higher value menu items- there were many in the queue just behind me who came the same time and were left in the same position due to his incompetent speed. I am working on a film project in the area with a group of 12 others who I was also ordering for where we would have been spending between £200-400 per day for the next few weeks as we didn’t fancy the pub menu across the road, we’ve opted to bring our own food now on principle as the lying staff seem like they just want to clock off early and likely don’t care about customers so long as they are being paid. This place needs to get that guy off the till as he was both rude and had no efficiency, management are likely to blame here as well as they should have seen that this guy has limited capacity / can’t tell the time and is too slow to work alone. Suffice to say- a few people I sat near said the food wasn’t anything special so it could be a blessing. This place could be very successful with better management and staff, it’s mind boggling that they close their doors just as most people are finishing their walks around the area between 3-5pm.

This would have been 5 stars but for the attitude of one of the bar staff. Everyone else was really friendly, especially the ones bringing the towers to the tables. The barman however was arrogant and needs to go on a customer service course. I watched him ignore people and serve others who’d arrived after them and when they had the temerity to try and get his attention he said “we don’t do it like that here” and served someone else! Some of those he ignored simply went somewhere else.

Went here for food having checked the website first that they serve food on a Friday night. Arrived and checked the menu on the tables, not much choice and not what was on the website. Stood at an empty bar for a few minutes while the server was sat talking to customers. When she finally got up she told us they're not doing food only lunch. Very frustrating as we hadn't eaten. Won't be returning.

An excellent Sunday luncheon. A comfortable and pleasant hotel with a pleasant bar & dining room, open fires very warm & comforting on a cold day. A Duck parfait starter followed by. Sirloin of beef. Ideal spot for a late Sunday lunch. Beautifully presented and well deserving of 2 AA Rossettes.
