This small restaurant in the middle of nowhere has the best food I've tasted in a British restaurant at very affordable prices. I had dinner with my family there and was so impressed that I booked their special Sunday lunch as well, which was even better somehow. I LOVED the food, all of it. I cannot find a fault in it. Best steak I ever ate... very juicy on the inside, but smokey and burnt (the good kind) on the outside. The Sunday lunch was a very big portion and I have a feeling they cooked both the beef and lamb sous-vide because it was the pinkest and juiciest meat ever. My husband was very impressed with the lamb meat...reminded him of his grandma's.

Booked a table here as we were in the area visiting Penderyn distillery and were not disappointed. This is everything that a cosy pub lunch should be. We were also ahead of schedule but phoned ahead to check if we could come earlier and it was not a problem - even staff apologising to us for having to wait to put our food order in (our fault for turning up early not theirs!) but we were quite happy to have another drink whilst we waited. Once ordered food came out piping hot and fresh. Great service, wonderful cosy pub atmosphere and lovely food. Only regret is that we bought the car!

First of all many thanks to the landlady for her hospitality and to the wonderful staff. You are fabulous. Second of all, by far we had the best pub dinner ever in a beautiful setting. We were visiting Brecon Beacons and were recommended this place as it is off the beaten track we would not have seen it. It is a beautiful old building with character and warmth. We had a three course meal and everything was spot on. The amuse bouche with the smoked honey butter and rosemary bread was my favourite. Everything was served quickly, beautifully presented, packed full of flavour, and with a smile :) I could not fault anything. This pub is a real asset to the area and we wish you all the best.

From the moment we walked into the bar we were greeted with a smile and a warm welcome . Asked if we wanted to go into the restaurant or have a drink first to take a look at the menu, which was nice . After a look at the menus we were asked to take our table , we were not rushed to give our order , but we were ready and gave our orders . When food arrived starters first WOW , delicious, mains the same and deserts and the butter for our complimentary hot toasted bread was extraordinary was very something else , I was even given a pot to take home for my toast in the morning , it tasted of a sweet and sour and honey , 👍💙❤️, we all loved it . Staff were great an attentive and we all left with a smile and full bellies , great place for a meal and drink . We will definitely be back , we are local people and my son and daughter in law were there from Dubai and they said that the meals were up to Dubai standards and that takes some doing , the chefs can be very pleased with that compliment , I can see Michelin stars there before long , Thanks to all the team there .

We visited the Red Lion on Easter Saturday with the intention of just having a drink. The pub was lovely, quirky, cosy and friendly and the smell of the food was just too tempting so we were lucky to have an impromptu lunch table for two. We chose from the lunch menu (£25/£30 for 2/3 courses). We both had the pressed belly pork to start which was so tasty and melt in the mouth with a lovely balance of flavours. I had the Bream to follow and my partner chose the Veg Gnocchi- both utterly delicious! We also had a side of fries which was unnecessary as the portion sizes were generous but we enjoyed them nevertheless! We were too full for dessert but will definitely return soon to try them out. There's a lovely vibe outside with a wood fired pizza van and lots of seating. Fabulous find and we look forward to visiting again soon.

Absolute gem of a pub! If you are in the area you have to visit. Food and wine on point, plus a host of local beers and spirits. Especially supporting the Penderyn distillery. Well where do I start, I read some of the reviews of this place but fool as I am ignored the bad ones. ( first mistake) We were running a little late so called ahead and explained. They politely said no worries we know there are problems where you are coming from. We arrived about 10 to 15 minutes late and were seated. We waited 24 minutes until I had to go find a waitress and ask her to take our order. How I can be so precise, It's because I timed it from a call I made. The food was, for the price very mediocre and disappointing. I don't mind paying if the food is as good as it costs, this sadly this was not the case. And at nearly £5 a pind where the same beer in the pub down the road is £3.60 this also was disappointing. But the worst thing of all was when we were asked to move and I quote the waitress " You can have your coffee and hot chocolates at the bar as we need the table" At this we cancelled our drinks and and went to the bar to pay. We explained this to the owner a short stout lady with blonde hair. But her attitude was disgusting, aggressive, and belligerent. I said to her if we had ordered dessert we would still be sitting at the table eating. Her reply was "Well you didn't" Since this incident, we have spoken to many locals who will never use this establishment because of this sort of behavior. Overpriced, overbearing, rubbish... Please believe the bad reviews, I should have.

The Lady who runs the Red Lion was so helpful when I requested booking Sunday Lunch. Having only deciding to book on the Saturday they were able to accommodate me although the Restaurant was fully booked. The standard of food and service is excellent. I decided to have the Lamb dinner and the quality of the meat and vegetables is at a level that many people would not experience that often and is generously priced. The waitress was very pleasant and although I was offered extra vegetables ( at no extra cost ), I chose not to as basically the Sunday lunch alone was more than enough. From the moment you enter this ' hidden gem ' of a pub you can tell the family who run the business take ' Great Pride ' on making your stay here warm and welcoming. The log fires are so well maintained and the cleanliness is of a very high standard. A visit to the Red Lion for a drink of one of their cask ales or dine out to eat quality food is highly recommended.

Pub, superb well run pub in a butiful area of R. C. T's countryside. A very good greeting ( covid considerations adhered to) and excellent service throughout. Beer/wine superb, a few pints of one of my favourite beers, fullers ESB well kept. A fullers ESB glass to suit gave a nice touch. Food, very good in general, however my belly pork starter was the smallest portion of food I've ever seen served in a restaurant in my life. My floater coffee was cold and the remedial was to pour a fraction of hot water into it, it should have been replaced immediately, it was still cold on re serving. Conclusion, one or two below par issues but in general very good to excellent, we will go again in the future.

We found the Red Lion on Google maps as it was the closest pub to the hike we did (4 falls). We reserved a table last minute for lunch which was no problem. We were advised that the kitchen closed at half 2 so we reserved the table for 2 oclock. However we were delayed on the hike and weren't gonna make it until about 2.45. We called up to say we would be late and if it was possible to make our food order over the phone as to avoid missing last orders in the kitchen. It was absolutely no problem, and they were trusting enough to put the order through with only our word that we were gonna turn up. We got there about 2.45 and sat outside on some lovely tables in the shade of a tree (it was a lovely hot day!) with a great view of the hillside in a very peaceful area. The food came out shortly after and was absolutely delicious, 10/10. The bang bang cauliflower bites with chilli jam was amazing, and the fish and chips was one of the best I had ever had. My girlfriend is Spanish and had never had Fish & Chips before, it did not disappoint! Great, fast & friendly service too from the waitress. Overall it was perfect lunch experience that we were after after a hike. Thank you :)

Following a recent recommendation, I thought I would give this a try! Booked on line for 5 of us Saturday evening which was simple in itself then drove the 40 or so minutes from Llantrisant. A beautiful and very beautiful pub was waiting for us which, once inside, was very ‘olde worlde’ and cozy. Staff were very attentive, the presentation and taste of the food was outstanding and there was a nice menu to choose from. It’s the sort of place you hope to get snowed in at to be honest! I can only imagine how it looks when the log fires are roaring. You really wouldn’t want to leave!!The place is exceptionally dog friendly which is a plus especially if you have been walking the Brecon Beacons with them. Cannot recommend enough!

Myself and my partner visited the Red Lion after a recommendation in the local area where we were staying overnight. As we’re not local, we didn't know what to expect but the level of service and quality of the food was above and beyond anything we could have hoped for! The waitresses were attentive and friendly and made us feel welcome whilst the food arrived quickly and was genuinely some of the best we had tasted in a long time! All of this whilst being in a comfortable and warming atmosphere in a beautiful part of the country! We will definitely be back and would even go as far as driving all of the way from England JUST for the Red Lion! Thank you to the Chef, the Owners and all of the Staff.

My wife and I were staying at a nearby hotel and this pub was recommended. Covid 19 regulations were in force and made things difficult. As soon as we walked in we were asked have you booked? No welcome greeting. It didn't seen a friendly place. It felt that this was a locals pub and strangers not welcome. We decided just to have drink and were told you have to sit outside and given obscure directions to a bench. We quickly had our drinks and promptly departed.

We called in after visiting Sgwd yr Eira. It wasn't planned and we hadn't booked but they were able to accommodate our group of 6.They'd worked hard on making things safe with a one way system, track and trace and sanitisation with Penderyn Whisky hand sanitiser. The pub is really attractive inside with a cosy bar and a few other spaces for dining.Having arrived at an awkward time there was only a nibbles and sandwich menu. It was ideal for us. There was a reasonable choice at between £8 and £12. Probably a bit expensive for what it was but these are difficult times so we were reasonably happy.Drinks and food were ordered at the table and delivered to us. Friendly service, good atmosphere and a comfortable seating area. Ideal after a damp days walking.Hopefully we can go back soon for an evening meal.NB it's not the easiest place to find. Check on a map or satnav.

Visited tonight with my family for our first meal out since lockdown. Natalie has adapted the pub well with safety in mind. There is hand sanitiser on every table, screens at the bar and it’s table service only but the warm and friendly atmosphere has not been lost! The food was to die for!! We ordered starters of mushrooms, ham hock and fillet of beef and mains of sea bass, pork belly, duck and lamb. All were mouth-watering and tasted as good as they looked!!The youngsters ordered stunning desserts of cheesecake and brownie but my husband and I failed. Desserts were absolutely beautiful and we are already planning to return! Thank you for a first class evening. See you very soon!

Visited with my family for a lunch and a drink after a walk in the national park. All staff very friendly, food great (I got a ploughmans and it was very nice!) and the pub and grounds were picturesque. They even kindly brought a carrot for our puppy when we asked. Lovely afternoon. Will return on our next trip to the breacon beacons.

Came here on Sunday after reading all the excellent reviews. It’s a shame they dont serve anything other than roast for main as the reviews make it seem like the other food is excellent. We all had whipped goats cheese to start which was very good. Small and gone in an instant but delicious nonetheless. The roast beef was disappointing. The menu stated ‘served rare’, so when my friend asked if hers could be as rare as possible, I was expecting hers to be blue. However, both of ours arrived well done. Hardly a pink bit of beef on either plate. We were hungry and didnt want to make a fuss, but we shouldn’t have to let them know it wasnt remotely rare. Unfortunately, the caulliflower cheese was not cooked enough, the other veg was standard sunday roast veg. The gravy didnt have much flavour and our yorkshire pud came thin and as a slice of a much bigger pud - bit odd. For £12.50 the roast would have been very reasonable. Not sure about the pricing though as the goast cheese starter was £8 and pretty small. The brownie at £7 was a bit disappointing as it was dry and a bit gritty. This may be to some people’s taste as it had lots of dark chocolate but it did not seem like much of a brownie. It was quite thin and dense. I like mine with a bit more air/height, hopefully soft and gooey. I’m no brownie expert though and it tasted fine. Could hardly notice the honeycomb. The cabernet sauvignon we had at £25 a bottle was good. They staff were friendly and the food came quickly. For a pub/restaurant with three consecutive years of certicates of excellence, I expected the food to be a lot better.

I love food. Everything to do with it, especially eating. We came to The Red Lion Inn on a Wednesday evening.First impressions on this establishment is WoW. The vintage original look and feeling is fantastic. (Due to covid19 restrictions, I was very impressed with what they are able to do)The staff are very friendly, Nothing is to much for them. Very attentive,The owner is really lovely and has plenty of time for her customers and from what I seen also her staff.Hand sanitiser on every table. The startersWe had was monkfish scampi and peppered fillet steakThe monkfish was very nice according to my wife.(would not allow me a bite, so must of been good)The Welsh peppered fillet was perfectly cooked to a medium rare temperature. The steak was very tender. The accompanying slaw was very tasty. Only negative for me is the steak was advertised as peppered but only had a small amount of seasoning and i feel would benefit from adding more cracked black pepper. The mainsI had the Lamb cutlets with crispy belly, The flavour and seasoning on the crispy belly is divine. The overall presentation, quality and taste of meal was to a very high standard. The olive oil mashed potato is full of flavour. The lamb itself was again cooked perfectly. Nice and pink, overall a very tasty and very well executed meal.My wife had the Duck breast, this was a very beautiful plate. The breast was perfectly cooked with a perfect pink consistency throughout the plate. The raspberries and other accompanying fruit/veg went very well with the duck. Yet again another very good plateI very rarely go to a restaurant and enjoy it to the standard I have here. The portion size is very big and for me would benefit both the customer and the establishment if they was slightly smaller, perhaps then i could of fitted in a desert. Thanks again to all the staff and chefs at The Red Lion Inn Penderyn.

We love the Red Lion and have recommended the food to many people. However, on this occasion (7th March) we were a little disappointed. We were a table of four booked for 7.30pm. The waitresses were busy but we didn't mind waiting for our order to be taken. Unfortunately, every course was luke warm. We didn't want to make a fuss as we were with friends but when we got home, my husband and I discussed how disappointed we were on this occasion. We paid £80 a couple. If just us as a couple, we would have made our dissatisfaction known. We are hoping this evening is a one off as we really love this place and go there for all special occasions. Normally the food is excellent.

I'm nearly at a loss for words - called in today for a drink with a group of about 15 people after a walk. I was served by, I assume, the owner. Very miserable and although she did serve me with a hot chocolate she obviously didn't want to do it - hot chocolate and a glass of Diet Coke was nearly £6! She was then overheard saying we were too noisy for he pub. Then she proceeded to tell us that they don't like groups of more that 12 unless they are pre-warned so they can put an extra bar person on. I notice she didn't tell us we weren't welcome before she took our money!!Needless to say, we didn't stop. I also visited the pub with another group about a month ago. The same unwelcoming attitude happened then too.

We visited the Red Lion after an afternoon tour of the nearby Penderyn Distillery. Arriving before the restaurant was open we had a coffee in the bar in front of the roaring log fire. We were called promptly when our table was ready and service throughout was excellent. We both had the Pork Belly which was superb and even managed a desert. Will definitely be going back and would thoroughly recommend
