We arrived in The Brecon Beacons on Sunday after a long drive,Red Lion was our nearest pub so we walked to have a drink, it was packed. We received a warm welcome from both staff and locals (who even offered to let us sit with them) everyone chatted to us, it was so lovely. Drinks arrived quickly. Monday we were booked in for dinner, it was amazing. Roaring fire, comfortable seating, clean toilets and another friendly welcome. We were served a pumpkin soup with garlic bread compliments of the chef, delicious. There were 4 of us so we chose spicy crusted mackerel, duck breast and the scallop with pork belly, all were perfect. We then had Welsh sirloin, which came with chips, onion rings, tomatoes and mushrooms, so juicy and tender and perfectly cooked. 2 had rump of lamb and other pork belly all were as menu listed and were outstanding. Almost too full for dessert but we shared a apple/rhubarb crumble tart which came with crème anglaise and clotted cream ice cream OMG beautiful 😍 2 finished with a coffee laced with Penderyn whisky from the local distillery. Red Lion is a traditional pub with a menu worthy of the gastro pub title, we loved the people and the food. If you are in Penderyn don’t miss it.

I had a very bad experience here. This was a wonderful place which I used to frequent in my younger days before it became a Bar and Restaurant. I ordered a steak main course and it was inedible. The steak was so tough you couldn’t put a steak knife through it. I asked the very kind waitress to return and refund my bill. This did not happen. So I had to pay. The owner refused to reimburse me which is appalling. She was so defensive. I have dined in all the best restaurants in the World and it’s all about customer service. I will not recommend this establishment and will never visit it again.

Review purely based on a 30 mi visit for couple of pints. Didn't eat so no comment on food which looked amazing. As I say a friend and I just has a couple of pints. The bar is probably one of the best I have ever has the pleasure to sit in. The night jar stout we tried was a great pint. A very good alternative to guinness. Most of all the young lady that served us was a real lesson in customer service. Absolutely first class. Didn't catch her name but she was temporary manager for a couple of days.

AVOID IF YOU HAVE BABIES What a disappointing experience. Cannot in today’s word believe that we were turned away from our pre booked table yesterday because we had a 10 week old baby with us. It was my daughter’s 21st birthday meal and we were very much looking forward to our meal. We booked online a week in advance. We arrived at 6:10pm for a 6:15pm reservation. We were shown to the table. My other daughter who was last to arrive with the babe in arms was told that there were no children under 6 allowed after 6pm. We explained that the baby was 10 weeks old and as my daughter was a breastfeeding mam it would be impossible to not have her close with us. I then asked another waitress if it was true that we would have to leave and she went and asked the manager. She then came out and said that it was because they didn’t have baby change facilities high chairs etc. I’m not sure what happens before 6pm then? As it was, the baby would have needed nothing more than to be held by one or all of us. The table next door to us could not believe we were asked to leave due to a 10 week old baby!! Apparently they say it’s on the website when you book. We have looked and it certainly isn’t on the front booking page that allows you to book. The night was ruined! We are rarely all together as a family due to busy lives etc so this was a precious planned night all together ruined. To get a table for 6 on a Saturday night anywhere else was nigh on impossible. So I’m afraid that’s it for us! The red lion is off our list .. we have been several times before and really enjoyed!

What a gem of a find. Yesterday we’d walked from Dinas Rock to the Penderyn Distillery and returned by the Red Lion. So impressed we booked lunch for today. We stayed at the cottage owned by the pub and ate in the restaurant. The cottage is clean, very comfortable and well equipped - having been modernised to very high standards. It had a ‘home from home’ feel that helped make our stay very enjoyable. Richard could not have been more helpful or friendly. He did all he could to ensure we made the most of our time whilst in the area. The pub/restaurant is just a few minutes walk from the cottage. We ate in the restaurant The food, service and (for me) the beer were all excellent. We visited the Penderyn Distillery on our first day and we walked to the Sgwd Yr Eirs Water Falls on the 2nd day. The falls are a must see if in the area and just a 40 minute walk from the cottage. (Ask Richard for a map). We really enjoyed our stay, great pub, great location and excellent service. Thanks to Richard and co. We hope to return at some point.

Had a fabulous Sunday lunch here for Fathers' Day. The food is delicious. The service is top notch and friendly. There's much thought and care gone into the menu as well as the cooking - and food arrives beautifully presented. Everything is freshly cooked ....no microwave-to-plate here....and the clever food combinations are just perfect to eat. As we left the restaurant we decided to book again as soon as possible. The food was cooked to perfection.

What an amazing pub, tucked up a narrow lane but boy we need to come back. We stumbled upon this tiny village when completing a waterfall loop walk and the prospect of a pub meal at the end was really motivational. The price was reasonable and the food was full of flavour and some great combinations. The chef is obviously very talented. The waiting staff all seemed very new and lacked skills in hospitality. Some of them didn’t know the dishes and muddled up the order. That didn’t dampen the experience as everyone has to learn somewhere, bit something for the pub to think about. Overall still 5 stars as the standard of food was so high, shame the service wasn’t quite up to the same level.

This small restaurant in the middle of nowhere has the best food I've tasted in a British restaurant at very affordable prices. I had dinner with my family there and was so impressed that I booked their special Sunday lunch as well, which was even better somehow. I LOVED the food, all of it. I cannot find a fault in it. Best steak I ever ate... very juicy on the inside, but smokey and burnt (the good kind) on the outside. The Sunday lunch was a very big portion and I have a feeling they cooked both the beef and lamb sous-vide because it was the pinkest and juiciest meat ever. My husband was very impressed with the lamb meat...reminded him of his grandma's.

Booked a table here as we were in the area visiting Penderyn distillery and were not disappointed. This is everything that a cosy pub lunch should be. We were also ahead of schedule but phoned ahead to check if we could come earlier and it was not a problem - even staff apologising to us for having to wait to put our food order in (our fault for turning up early not theirs!) but we were quite happy to have another drink whilst we waited. Once ordered food came out piping hot and fresh. Great service, wonderful cosy pub atmosphere and lovely food. Only regret is that we bought the car!

First of all many thanks to the landlady for her hospitality and to the wonderful staff. You are fabulous. Second of all, by far we had the best pub dinner ever in a beautiful setting. We were visiting Brecon Beacons and were recommended this place as it is off the beaten track we would not have seen it. It is a beautiful old building with character and warmth. We had a three course meal and everything was spot on. The amuse bouche with the smoked honey butter and rosemary bread was my favourite. Everything was served quickly, beautifully presented, packed full of flavour, and with a smile :) I could not fault anything. This pub is a real asset to the area and we wish you all the best.

Asked if we wanted to go into the restaurant or have a drink first to take a look at the menu, which was nice . After a look at the menus we were asked to take our table , we were not rushed to give our order , but we were ready and gave our orders . When food arrived starters first WOW , delicious, mains the same and deserts and the butter for our complimentary hot toasted bread was extraordinary was very something else , I was even given a pot to take home for my toast in the morning , it tasted of a sweet and sour and honey , 👍💙❤️, we all loved it . Staff were great an attentive and we all left with a smile and full bellies , great place for a meal and drink . We will definitely be back , we are local people and my son and daughter in law were there from Dubai and they said that the meals were up to Dubai standards and that takes some doing , the chefs can be very pleased with that compliment , I can see Michelin stars there before long , Thanks to all the team there .

We visited the Red Lion on Easter Saturday with the intention of just having a drink. The pub was lovely, quirky, cosy and friendly and the smell of the food was just too tempting so we were lucky to have an impromptu lunch table for two. We chose from the lunch menu (£25/£30 for 2/3 courses). We both had the pressed belly pork to start which was so tasty and melt in the mouth with a lovely balance of flavours. I had the Bream to follow and my partner chose the Veg Gnocchi- both utterly delicious! We also had a side of fries which was unnecessary as the portion sizes were generous but we enjoyed them nevertheless! We were too full for dessert but will definitely return soon to try them out. There's a lovely vibe outside with a wood fired pizza van and lots of seating. Fabulous find and we look forward to visiting again soon.

Well where do I start, I read some of the reviews of this place but fool as I am ignored the bad ones. ( first mistake) We were running a little late so called ahead and explained. They politely said no worries we know there are problems where you are coming from. We arrived about 10 to 15 minutes late and were seated. We waited 24 minutes until I had to go find a waitress and ask her to take our order. How I can be so precise, It's because I timed it from a call I made. The food was, for the price very mediocre and disappointing. I don't mind paying if the food is as good as it costs, this sadly this was not the case. And at nearly £5 a pind where the same beer in the pub down the road is £3.60 this also was disappointing. But the worst thing of all was when we were asked to move and I quote the waitress " You can have your coffee and hot chocolates at the bar as we need the table" At this we cancelled our drinks and and went to the bar to pay. We explained this to the owner a short stout lady with blonde hair. But her attitude was disgusting, aggressive, and belligerent. I said to her if we had ordered dessert we would still be sitting at the table eating. Her reply was "Well you didn't" Since this incident, we have spoken to many locals who will never use this establishment because of this sort of behavior. Overpriced, overbearing, rubbish... Please believe the bad reviews, I should have.

The Lady who runs the Red Lion was so helpful when I requested booking Sunday Lunch. Having only deciding to book on the Saturday they were able to accommodate me although the Restaurant was fully booked. The standard of food and service is excellent. I decided to have the Lamb dinner and the quality of the meat and vegetables is at a level that many people would not experience that often and is generously priced. The waitress was very pleasant and although I was offered extra vegetables ( at no extra cost ), I chose not to as basically the Sunday lunch alone was more than enough. From the moment you enter this ' hidden gem ' of a pub you can tell the family who run the business take ' Great Pride ' on making your stay here warm and welcoming. The log fires are so well maintained and the cleanliness is of a very high standard. A visit to the Red Lion for a drink of one of their cask ales or dine out to eat quality food is highly recommended.

A beatiful lld pub/ restaurant, with very friendly staff, made a great fuss of our dog. Food was excellent, though my friend was not impressed by her taste of the pigeon, I was. Excellent steaks, cooked as we like them, and after a filling first...

Pub, superb well run pub in a butiful area of R. C. T's countryside. A very good greeting ( covid considerations adhered to) and excellent service throughout. Beer/wine superb, a few pints of one of my favourite beers, fullers ESB well kept. A fullers ESB glass to suit gave a nice touch. Food, very good in general, however my belly pork starter was the smallest portion of food I've ever seen served in a restaurant in my life. My floater coffee was cold and the remedial was to pour a fraction of hot water into it, it should have been replaced immediately, it was still cold on re serving. Conclusion, one or two below par issues but in general very good to excellent, we will go again in the future.

I visited last evening, the staff had kindly arranged tables next to each other so i could eat out with my parents but at separate tables. We easily chatted and could ask each other what delicious dishes each of had. We choose to have the set menu and we were delighted with our choices. We could not resist the dreamy desserts so had to have the 3 courses for the great price of £25. So glad this wonderful pub, with such great food is in RCT, a great consolation in the time of local lockdown. Thanks to the Red lion and their staff for such a lovely evening.

Booked a table, arrived earlier than we had scheduled, which was accommodated without a fuss. Very professional staff and amazing fish dish, incredibly fresh and freshly prepared. Second time we have dined here in the last few years, impressed both times. Nice ambience, even better when the fires are lit I'm sure.

We found the Red Lion on Google maps as it was the closest pub to the hike we did (4 falls). We reserved a table last minute for lunch which was no problem. We were advised that the kitchen closed at half 2 so we reserved the table for 2 oclock. However we were delayed on the hike and weren't gonna make it until about 2.45. We called up to say we would be late and if it was possible to make our food order over the phone as to avoid missing last orders in the kitchen. It was absolutely no problem, and they were trusting enough to put the order through with only our word that we were gonna turn up. We got there about 2.45 and sat outside on some lovely tables in the shade of a tree (it was a lovely hot day!) with a great view of the hillside in a very peaceful area. The food came out shortly after and was absolutely delicious, 10/10. The bang bang cauliflower bites with chilli jam was amazing, and the fish and chips was one of the best I had ever had. My girlfriend is Spanish and had never had Fish & Chips before, it did not disappoint! Great, fast & friendly service too from the waitress. Overall it was perfect lunch experience that we were after after a hike. Thank you :)

We visited on a busy Friday night with family and were greates warmly and shown to our table. The service was excellent all evening so couldn't fault this. The fish and chips I had was solid, nothing to write home about and the others in the party had a couple of different burgers that we ok. Portions were of a good side, although the chips could have been crispier and the tartar sauce and peas I had did lack seasoning. A very good selection of Welsh ales brewed on site.
