Went in on Wednesday, had the steak and pie, oh my god absolutely delicious, and a pint for £10, too cheap but not arguing lol. Spoke to the chef Andy, nice lad, he has got some great ideas on what food he wants to introduce to the menu, what a passionate man about food, keep up the good work team

We popped in for our first visit to The White Horse in Overton today, having been to look at the inexplicably slow progress on our house build nearby. And, we were mighty glad we did! This will definitely become our new local, once we finally move into the area. Dog-friendly too, hurrah! Our meals were superb. Husband is an ex-chef/restrauter himself, so we know when our food has been prepared and cooked well. Andy is their new chef, we were told, and his menu is all about good, traditional pub food, done exceptionally well. The fresh ham hock terrine was beautifully hand made and served with Andy's own deliciously piquant piccalilli. The sausages and mash were cooked to perfection and made us determined to visit 'Evans the Butcher' two doors down, to see what other delicious treats might be in store. The chicken curry was tasty and authentic, served with warm, moist naan breads. We both opted for puddings and were served with more wonderful local produce, scrummy honeycomb ice cream to accompany the sticky toffee pudding. The fruit pavlova was fresh and light, perfect to round off a summer supper. Since Andy can cook so beautifully, it would have been wonderful if he'd made the meringue himself but we know that is asking a lot. I must finally mention Sam, our barman/waiter. What a superbly competent, polished young man he is. A real find. We hope his manager appreciates what an asset Sam is to the business. In such trying times for hospitalty generally, Sam is a genuinely talented team member, with huge future potential. Thanks to Andy and Sam, we'll definitely be back, very soon.

Absolutely awful. We had a 45 minute wait for our starters. We had to request them twice. Mains arrived, ordered 3 x lamb shanks, which were lukewarm. The gnocchi was burnt beyond recognition & dry. A main of salad & mix veg was requested. The mixed veg took so long to be brought out, everyone else had finished their mains. Requested no potato, but potatoes were the first veg brought out. A mixed veg side of potato & root veg, was burnt & doused in gravy, inedible. When I raised my issues & looked to complain, it was if they were not bothered, siting we’ve had a number of disasters today! Not what you want when celebrating Mother’s Day. The best part of the afternoon was the live entertainment, Billy Shannon, he was absolutely fantastic.

We’ve had several Lovely meals at The White Horse which all our family really enjoyed. The food is delicious .This year we sat outside in a lovely courtyard full of beautifull flowers. We have been in cooler months and very nice inside with lots of different areas to sit. The younger adults enjoyed The games room which is a great addition and missing from a lot of other pubs. This is a great family pub with excellent food. The drinks are also excellent.

Anyone familiar with the decor in a Joules pub will be pleased to know this one is no different. There are lots of locally sourced pictures and stories on the wall and some lovely Joules stained glass. The staff were great and attentive. From the moment I walked in I was made to feel welcome and shown to a table next to a roaring log burner. The food and portion sizes were great, with just the right amount of time between each course. Talking to other guests they shared the same opinions. I'll definitely be returning for second helpings

So it's been a while since I wrote a review, and after lock down was keen to sample some alternatives to our Sunday lunch options. Firstly, it has to be said the place is straight out of the sixties, both in terms of decor and ambiance. The gents toilet is approached via a stair case, the carpets had a distinct aroma, and I'm not talking carpet cleaner. The staff were very pleasant, but really need some basic training. Basic stuff not handled at all well. Now the meal, after waiting for close on an hour, I decided to enquire where the food was, a waitress came along and informed us "It won't be long now". To which I asked, how, long what's the hold up ( the place was NOT overflowing with people). She eventually told me about 15 minutes as she had to get the Yorkshire puds done. Anyhow, the food eventually arrived, there was LOT's of it, and it was OK, can't say it was the best, or worst..however we had 1 turkey and I roast beef. The gravy was clearly meant for the Turkey and not beef stock. It was cheaper than expected...but sadly it's not a place I can recommend or indeed return to.

This Inn is a real gem. Welcoming and traditional atmosphere. The meals we ordered from starters through to puddings were top quality. The main courses were exceptional with very generous portions. We had a large table with plenty of room to spread out. Dinner plates were a good large size which was needed. The mashed potatoes and vegetables were served in separate dishes and extra gravy in gravy boats. A really enjoyable afternoon. Will be back very soon. Thank you !

I went here for Sunday lunch recently with family and friends. The restaurant was not very busy. The waitress asked for our drinks order almost as we were sitting down! She called back a bit later and we ordered and waited quite a while for them to appear. Similarly with the order for food. It took 50 minutes from entering to arrival of the first course which is a shame especially as the food was good. Almost as soon as the plates were cleared the mains arrived. One member of the party found their lamb "not very nice" "fatty and gristly" others praised it so maybe it was a one off. In summary. Very good food (and plenty of it!), friendly staff, let down by the excruciating wait for the first course to arrive, especially when we had young children in the party.

Maybe the chef's different at lunchtime than in the evening, but I certainly didn't experience the gastronomic delights others have described. Massive portions of reasonably-priced but clumsily prepared food, (over-)cooked not very well, would be how I'd describe it. I have no idea what a large wedge of something like a blue Brie, complete with inedible rind, is doing on top of cheddar and pineapple in a burger, but there it was, inside a hard bun and all topped off with cold and greasy onion rings. Very disappointing.

Visited with my and brother and sister in law for Sunday lunch, as they were staying at a caravan site just up the road in Penley. The pub is a traditional layout with a lounge and bar area and a separate dining area which goes all the way to the back of the pub, giving it a “ tardis” like effect. There are several real ales and lagers on sale as it is a Joules brewery pub. The menu for Sunday lunch was about £13.95 for a 2 course and £16.95 for a 3 course, ( if you can manage it). Good choice of starters. For mains there was a choice of chicken, beef, lamb, pork and salmon. Lots of meat and good choice of veg on offer. Very large portions, but managed to put away an apple crumble and custard after. Real home cooked food, served hot and washed down with a pint of real ale, what I call a superb Sunday lunch. Will be back again soon. There is a different menu available during the week, which we sampled on a previous visit. Note the pub is closed on Sunday evenings and Mondays.

We paid the new landlord, Stuart, another visit today for food. We had steak and ale pie with chips and a vegetarian risotto. The pie came with garden peas and a jug of proper gravy and was delicious. The vegetarian risotto had three types of mushrooms, along with butternut squash and was the best risotto I have ever tasted - it had a real depth of flavour that most risottos lack. The beer was also on top form. We are planning on going back for curry night on a Thursday as we have have heard great reports of Stuart's beef madras. Lovely pub, with great staff/management and friendly locals.Mike the landlord since January this year, is very experienced in the pub trade and this is evident in the way he runs the White Horse. The pub serves well kept Joules real ales, craft ales and a weekly guest ale as well as the usual lagers, ciders, wines and spirits. The front bar is dog friendly and is popular with dog walkers. There is a TV in the rear bar as well as a dartboard. The rear and front bars both have a log fire. The front bar is a great place for good drink and conversation.Food is all home cooked, locally sourced and made to an excellent standard by Mikes wife Zena. Food is served both in the bar as well as in the nice cosy restaurant at the rear. There is also a largish function room upstairs which can be booked for larger parties.(the pub has a 5 star hygiene rating too).Check out the Lambs Liver and Bacon !I believe that they serve food every day except Monday and maybe Tuesday. As part of the 'Pie and a Pint' we got a free pint of Joules ale each (of our choice) which also went down well. The landlord was really helpful and friendly. Lovely old pub with a welcoming atmosphere. We had the 10oz and 5oz Gammon's with egg and chips - fabulous Gammon and everything was well cooked and hot. I particularly liked the attention to little things like the salad, where there were small pieces of red pepper and grapes etc., they didn't have to go to such trouble, but they did - so it was done with love. Well done Olwyn and Kevin we will come back fro more, that's for sure.

What a lovely pub!Very olde worlde charm.Visited here as the forth pub on the ale trail.Never been here before, but we'll definitely be returning.Lovely staff and an extremely attractive bar area.Oliver and I tried the slumbering monk, Tracey had a 1/4 bottle of proseco, she said it was very good. As were our pints of ale.As we were a little peckish, we had an artisan sausage roll each. OMG - delicious! Trace had the standard, I had a chilli one, Olivers was black pudding, all were excellent.Sad I've never been here before, but now we've discovered it, we'll definitely return soon.Thoroughly recommended

My partner and I popped in for food. The welcome was warm, the beer lovely. We sat in the restaurant to peruse the menu which had a good selection. My partner ordered rump steak rare, I ordered the king prawn linguine. The steak was definitely rare almost blue, the chips were lovely, the pasta dish was tasty. The food was plentiful.

I normally go to the cafe opposite my hairdressers for lunch when I come toOverton but it is closed for refurb so my baby and I stopped at the white horse inn instead. So here are the picky bits. I actually didn't mind this because to me your food is cheap anyway but your menu said omelette chips and peas or salad and you didn't asked what I wanted - I after ordering checked again what it came with and you said chips and salad it arrived with no chips and you said you had made a mistake so then I had to pay for and order more chips. Personally I found it irritating but not a massive biggie.Good stuff it's nice in here warm and welcoming you were friendly and I love the building. I also appreciated the grapes and orange in the salad a nice effort. Here's the reason I will come back your omelette was the best I have ever had it was fabulous and I would highly recommend it to anyone!! I own a hotel myself and I wish I had a chef who made an omelette as well as yours hats off to you it was brilliant it must have been because it's not normally something someone would get excited about seriously fab thank you will be back for another!!

Had a miser on the carvery counter. .I had to stand and wait while he scraped and cut every last bit of lamb he could salvage so I was left with just little tit bits of lamb...Little Yorkshire pudding with a pig in blanket which tasted like a hot dog sausage...Veg was just ok Had crumble & custard dessert , crumble was very nice but a shame they hardly gave you any custard to go with it, just a drizzle round it.Certainly not value for money ...not impressed and probably won't return he'll be glad to hear !!

Friendly staff. Beautiful building tastefully appointed. The sausage rolls they serve free at 530 are the best I've ever had. Great selection of the local Joules beers.

Excellent Joules beer, and good selection of wines compliment an excellent choice of pub grub. As well as the main menu and specials board, there are different themes on different evenings and we enjoyed Friday grill night with good tender steaks cooked to our requirements accompanied by a tasty per corn sauce. Beautifully restored pub and welcoming staff.

We really enjoyed our visit to this friendly pub. The beer was excellent as was the food and service. Really delicious spicy sausage roll free bar snacks were a treat and the meals we had were also very well cooked and great value for money. The wine that the landlord recommended was very fine. A great pub.

We had previously reviewed this place in April but new owners have since taken over and it is still an excellent local eatery! We ate here on a weekeday evening and then again on a Saturday lunchtime. Both times the food has been of excellent quality and of very good value. There is a new menu which has something for everyone and the puds are still excellent. The real ale selection is good and kept in excellent condition which is why this pub is in the latest edition of the Good Beer Guide (even though it is missing from the hard copy of the book due to a CAMRA glitch, you will find it in the electronic version).Dogs are still more than welcome in the back room of the pub.

Great pub in a lovely village. Good choice of food which is of excellent quality and at a good price. Puds are to die for! All staff are excellent. You can eat in either the bar, lounge or restaurant. We normally sit in the back bar as it's the dog friendly part with free dogs treats and the Landlady will bring out a bowl of water. Give it a go, you will not be disappointed!

I forget just how much character this place has. Really great old building that's been sensitively looked after. Just like our previous visit, the food was excellent and reasonably priced. One of the best pubs in the area, and would rate our meal here better than at the far more expensive Cross Foxes down the road. We'll be back again for sure. Keep up the good work! :)

I visited here with my dad and brother last Wednesday evening, walking in, it was a very friendly atmosphere even thought it was quite quiet. We sat in the room behind the bar with the fire which was cozy. Upon ordering a drink, the landlord/bartender explained to me the exact ingredients and how and where there house larger was brewed, that sold it for me! On to the food, i had the lamb shank which was cooked beautifully and the rosemary and mint gravy accompanied it perfectly. Creamed potatoes were good, along with the veg. My dad had the curry, which i tried a little of (not a big curry eater) and it was very full of flavor. My brother had a burger off the burger night menu and said it was very nice. Would defiantly visit again!

Have been here a few times as we are quite local, and have not yet been disappointed. This time we called with our neighbours/relatives and once again the food was top notch and terrific value for money.A choice of 3 roast meats - beef, pork and turkey - all beautifully cooked and carved, served with a (non-soggy) yorkshire pud and home made stuffing and bacon wrapped sausage.Fresh and hot and delicious vegetables - crispy roast potatoes, new potatoes, excellent cauliflower cheese, mashed swede and proper carrots to help ourself to, made for a plateful of food to fill the hungriest of diners, and smothered in a rich gravy!!Puddings are simple but fresh tasty and come with lashings of custard (my choice) or cream or locally produced ice cream. For £7.95 for the mains and £3.95 for pudding, tremendous value too. The pub is owned by local brewery Joules, who offer a lovely pint (or 2). I can recommend Slumbering Monk for you ale lovers out there. Not sure why previous reviewers have criticised the staff - landlady was professional and helpful and served us with a smile. Will we go back?? Oh yes, I think so!

Visited this pub on a Thursday night with a couple of friends. The landlord and landlady were rude and abrupt. It is the kind of place where they don't particuarly like "outsiders". If you have ever seen the pub in the film An American Werewolf In London, you will know what I mean. Since visiting I have heard of others with a similar experience. The people that run this place do not belong in a customer focussed job and would better off staying in the background.

After a thorough study of the subject, I can say that the sausage rolls put on the bar for the delight of visitors at Friday teatime (5.30-6pm ish) are the best ever. There's a good buzz about the place on Friday nights and we usually stay to enjoy a meal. The roaring fires are very welcome too at this time of the year. Great village pub.

Last night (6th November) friends & I decided to try the Thursday Curry Night at The White Horse. We'd also planned to join in the weekly Pub Quiz after eating - what a great decision we made! Not only did we enjoy the curry but the Quiz was great fun too! Thank you White Horse you made newcomers very welcome :-)

Rang in the afternoon to book a table & check out dog friendly. Very helpful chap told us it was busy that evening so could we come early doors no problem we said, he wanted to know size of dogs so he could accommodate us with plenty of room. We arrived at 6pm met by the landlord & shown to the bar area ( all very nice) fresh water & dog biscuits for our dogs. Nothing was to much trouble, well priced good pub food & excellent real ale. A great find on our weekend break. Will definitely return & spread the word.

This was our Saturday lunch location this week. The pub is full of character and really well presented - a lovely old building that's been sensitively looked after. The drinks are reasonable and the food menu is stunning value - two meals for £9.95 off the light bites menu. There are also some other slightly more expensive options, like my steak baguette for around £8, but this was lovely and came with some chips and onion rings. Service was exceptional and we were made to feel very welcome. You could eat here about five times over for the price of a meal at the nearby Cross Foxes or Boat at Erbistock. It's right in the middle of Overton too so great for a walk around the village. We'll be back, keep up the good work!

My family and I went to the white horse for a meal a couple of weeks ago. We went on a Thursday night which was curry night and we're really surprised. The food was really yummy and we couldn't get over the value for money to be honest. The staff, landlord and landlady all made us feel relaxed and came over to the table for a chat when we'd finished eating to tell us about the pub quiz which we decided to stay for. It was a hard quiz to be fair, but interesting with it and not your bog standard boring pub quiz. It was only a pound to enter and half way through we were presented with yet more delicious food. We all had an absolutely top night and left feeling rather merry. We weren't victorious quizzers but we will definitely be going back again for more!

What a lovely pub and lovely staff, whilst in the area visiting friends and family we popped in with our toddler and family dog. The staff (landlord and lady) were very welcoming and asked us if we wished to eat. We sat in a back bar area where our dog could sit under the table away from other eaters. We were offered drinks and a menu and I must say I could of eaten everything on the menu it all sounded lovely. They had no children's menu as such but offered smaller portions of main menu as a child option. I was happy to see proper food for children and none of the usual rubbish you find in pubs. We ordered lamb shank, pork belly and a child's fish. It was all as lovely as it sounded, creamy mash, crispy belly pork, tender drop of the bone shank, crispy (not covered in excess oil) fish and lovely fresh veg. Then the puddings mmmm sticky toffee pudding and ice cream. Needless to say we came back several times whilst away and will always come in again when visiting the area.My husband is a cider drinker and was happy at the choice of poured and bottled and lovely house wines. Also a lovely selection of non alcoholic drinks for non drivers. I would recommend to all Happy family from Somerset

The White Horse isn't a designer restaurant in a pub - they serve excellent beer and nice basic food .If you want a restaurant pub, then there are 2 others locally which are great but cost twice as much! You get what you pay for .I have taken my dog in this pub many times and they have several bays were you and your dog can be out of the way- without offending anyone! I don't want others' dogs sniffing my leg or plate when eating so welcome a table where mine can be happy and not trod on!If you like a well looked after real ale -try the Slumbering monk! and 2 meals for a tenner is great value! So no, not a place with +£25 a head meals -just honest food and great valueNice & warm in the winter with a log burner and the meat comes from the excellent butcher next door
