Third time we’ve been for a Sunday lunch here recently and it was exceptional again. My Mother had the lamb and I had the beef for a change. Tried a cheesie starter which I can’t remember what it was called but it very nice. The lamb is incredible and lots of it but for some reason it didn’t come with a black pudding slice like the last few times instead there was like a flavoured pearl barley underneath. My beef was decent but not as good as the lamb so will be switching next time. Lovely fresh vegetable cooked beautifully and the really tasty cauliflower cheese and all for a reasonable price considering the quality

The food is still absolutely fantastic at this lovely old pub/inn. The Sunday roast which is also absolute fantastic value for three courses. The lamb rump was how lamb used to taste and was perfectly cooked. The pies are also absolutely fantastic even though thats the only thing they buy in on the whole menu. The cooked breakfasts are also beautiful with probably the best bacon I've tasted in years. All produce local and first rate and delights includehomemade bread and marmalade. The cask ale is very well kept and very reasonable, personal I prefer the Amber Station bitter. If i had one criticism the rooms could do with a refresh and a more up to date TV.

Decided to book in here for Sunday lunch after my chauffeur job landed me here. I’ve been a couple of times in the past (but not since Covid)for food and always thought it was excellent but todays Sunday lunch I have to say was sublime!! I ordered the terrine to start which had lovely chunks of game and meat with a lovely chutney and plenty of bread and butter. I then had the lamb which was incredible ! A must try. I usually have the beef for a Sunday dinner but got talked into ordering the Lamb by the lovely waitress and it did not disappoint. A fantastic portion of thick cut lamb cooked pink like I asked for with lots of freshly cooked veg and cauliflower cheese and an extra pot of gravy on the side. Absolutely gorgeous food in a lovely restaurant in a beautiful location. Jaqueline and Johnathan are lovely host also. Can’t wait to come back and try a pudding next time as I was too full!!

We've been several times to eat after a walk in the valley, and the food is always outstanding. Ate way too much today as couldn't say no to 3 courses. The salmon and goats cheese starter was so good that I was tempted to order it for pudding as well. Chicken pie was fantastic and panacotta pudding was exactly as it should be. All 6 of us were extremely pleased and already planning our return. Service was faultless and the prices were excellent value for that quality of food.

Absolutely loved our stay. The hotel rooms were beautifully decorated, spacious and spotless. The little treats in the room were a nice touch. The staff are all lovely and friendly, they can’t do enough for you. Service is great in the restaurant. The food is amazing. Welcoming place with friendly staff, choice to eat in the pub or restaurant side. We are in the restaurant and wished we had gone for the pub as the restaurant was probably too formal for us with the white table cloths but that was down to us and not the restaurant. The Hand restaurant is a little gem. From booking to settling the bill, our experience was nothing less than perfect. We needed somewhere to allow us to catch up with old friends, not feel rushed, and to enjoy top quality food. The Hand met all of these requirements and more. We booked well in advance so the confirmation email the evening before was reassuring. We were welcomed warmly and shown to a spacious table for four, simply laid out but beautifuly presented. The drinks order arrived promptly. The staff were attentive but not pushy, allow us time to take in the impressive menu. The food was quite simply superb, cooked and presented to perfection. The salmon was amazing in interestingly coupled with some spicey flavour which really worked. The steak and peppercorn sauce was worth every penny. In terms of dessert the salted caramel panna cotta was sublime. Throughout the evening the ambience was perfect. The restaurant was busy. All in all, The Hand at Llanarmon is amazing and thorougly recommended… we will most definitely be back.

The Hand was recommended to us for an evening meal so we braved the single track from Llanrhaeadr, over the mountain, to be rewarded by a very friendly welcome and good service all evening. The menu was quite extensive and we chose the rare breed pork terrine, trout, local matured lamb and split a panne cotta between us. They were all of a high standard, the lamb and trout being the highlights. The restaurant could do with a touch of modernising, but the food, reasonably priced and service made up for that.

After a lovely weekend exploring wales it was the last night of our little break. We found this pub online and the reviews were incredible. We looked to see if there was a table for us to finish our amazing weekend with a lovely meal. To be greeted by a lady who looked us up and down and said sorry we’re fully booked with no one what so ever sat in the pub at 7.00 on a Saturday night. With it also stating on the website that there was numerous tables available that evening. Would not recommend this place to anyone despite the reviews.

So much so we came on the Saturday for lunch, then I came alone with my son for Sunday lunch. Tastes and flavours were gorgeous, prices fair and quality ingredients were certainly used. The welsh lamb was some of the best we have ever tasted and cooked to perfection. Yorkshire puddings were a sight to behold also! And just the right amount of crispy/soft& fluffy. All staff were friendly and welcoming and couldn't do enough for us. They even arranged a takeaway toast roast dinner for us and provided an extra plate for our 16month old.Wish we lived closed, as we would be back a lot more frequently! Thank you!

On an autumnal weekday, we had been to visit the Pistyll Rhaeadr waterfall and have a walk in the area. We were looking for a place to enjoy lunch nearby, and the Hand turned out to be an excellent choice. The village of Llanarmon Dyffryn Ceiriog is very appealing, set at a small crossroads with the river and lots of walking close by. The team at the Hand are doing a great job of keeping people safe during COVID and yet enabling them to enjoy a relaxing time at the pub. We chose to sit at one of the tables at the front - a little fresh (we kept our jackets on) the , but great fun being right there at the crossroads and watching the locals and visitors alike, down to a group of four women riding through on horseback. The service was excellent, and the food fresh and high quality. We enjoyed our sandwiches (we chose one roast beef and horseradish, and the other smoked salmon) and the fresh salad that came with them. Coffee came out in a cafetière afterwards with a complimentary chocolate each. There are several indoor eating areas in this character building, as well as a larger outdoor seating area to the side. The Hand also does accommodation.

We have just returned from a night with family at The Hand and can highly recommend the place. It is a lovely old pub which has maintained many of its original features with a cosy snug with sofas away from the main bar area. The bar itself although quite small has a lovely open fire and there is also an adjoining restaurant area. We stayed en route home from zip world and had a lovely time. The food was delicious, very warm welcoming atmosphere in the bar from the locals and owners were friendly and very hard working. Also nice to see young waiting staff in the evening and at breakfast who were all very sweet. For us city folk the roads to and from the hand were a challenge but the scenery is beautiful and waking up to look out of your bedroom window onto hills, fields and sheep so relaxing. Will definitely be back with walking boots and poles to explore the area further before crashing at The Hand for drink food and a bed for the night.

We stayed in a nearby holiday cottage for two weeks and had four meals in the restaurant, the last visit was a huge disappointment and shows what happens when you don’t have enough staff on duty.First of all the place is charming, tastefully decorated and spotlessly clean, and the food is fantastic. On all four visits we can’t fault the food and would especially recommend the braised beef cheek with horseradish mash, maple and cider onions and treacle gravy. On our first 3 visits the service was exceptional too.Unfortunately when we went for a meal for our last night of the holiday the service was poor. When we first arrived the restaurant was empty so the sole waitress could cope easily and we thought we were in for another enjoyable evening. The restaurant started to fill up quickly and the waitress started to struggle just as quickly. Whilst she did her best, it was inevitable that the standard of service would suffer, and boy did it suffer. After ordering our desserts they took over half an hour to arrive. When we’d finished eating we decided to finish with a glass of port, and eventually we were able to get her attention and place the order, asking for the bill at the same time. After 35 minutes of waiting we were just about to give up when they arrived, along with the bill. We sorted out the cash to pay the bill and enjoyed our glasses of port. Once we finished we waited a further 5 minutes for her to collect our payment before giving up and going to the bar to pay, where we had to wait a further 10 minutes for someone to appear to take our money. All the time the poor waitress was flying about like a blue arsed fly trying to serve all the tables. All it needed was one more staff member on duty, like on our previous 3 visits and none of this would’ve happened.I would like to give full marks but our last visit prevents me from doing so.

As a Weston Rhyn exile of over 30 years, I am consistently made aware of new or updated local pubs/restraunts by my family, but rarely get around to following up on the advice. So Friday before Bank Holiday, a beautiful morning prompted me to ask for a lunch recommendation. Llanarmon is a picturesque village near the river ceriog, and The Hand, a classic country pub/restraunt with exceptional food. Local produce is to the fore-Black Pudding, meat, game and pies. Service is warm and efficient and presentation of the food is immaculate. I tried the smoked chicken and locally smoked mozzarella club sandwich, which was seriously big, and delicious. A choice of local beers was the icing on the cake!Prices are top-end for the area but the value is undeniable. A fabulous lunch and I would whole-heartedly recommend a detour if you are in the area.

Being told to wait 5 minutes 'and then we'll be back for your order' was a bit off putting and you also felt that the team hadn't been given quite the training that it needed. Also disappointed in the range of bottled beers, no Welsh craft lagers but told they focus on the draft variety. Not totally bad but should be better.

Had great expectations after reading very positive reviews about this restaurant, however the meal did not live up to my expectations. The food was nice but certainly nothing to write home about

A big reason for returning to the Hand was the food and Grant didn’t disappoint. All of our meals were fantastic. What you need after a day walking the valley.

Wow. What more can I say?! Stunning, contemporary, local menu presented with flair and pride. Staff lovely, roaring open fires, beautifully decorated, great choice of drinks, and we felt really welcome. A cut above the rest. They are totally focused on customer satisfaction here and it shows. We'll be back, and intend to stay over in the accommodation too. Well done!!

I booked a special offer on TravelZoo for the Five course tasting menu at £45 instead of £89. When we arrived the pub was busy after the village firework display but we were taken to the restaurant and it was pretty quiet. We ordered a glass of wine and a pint of Lager. We had our first course served within minutes, before the drinks in fact and it was a terrine which was very nice but small which is fine being part of a tasting menu, however, for course two we again within minutes of our plates being collected, served a lemon sorbet then the next course of Beef cheeks with paprika mash arrived immediately after with a sprig of curly kale on top. We then had a chocolate Delice which was nice and then the last course of cheese and biscuits. The food was nice but I think we had all five courses within 40 minutes which is not my idea of a night out. I was actually still a bit hungry and totally amazed that a sorbet and very plain cheese and cracders were classed as a course in a tasting menu. I have had many tasting menus and normally you get these things in addition to the five courses along with Amuse Bouche which we were not given. We even had to pay for coffee on top. On the table next to us the people had normal mains which included pie and chips and fish and chips. The cost for these was approximately £14 each and we wish we had had them instead, they looked so good and were much better value for money than ours. If we had to pay the supposed full price of £89 for two I would have complained. To top it all when we had our bill which was just for the drinks it was £20 because they had added two pints of Peroni which we had not had, my husband was driving. I am not sure I would go back but if I did it would be for the normal menu. I think they really need to understand what a Tasting Menu should consist of.

I was a member of a pretty loud and demanding party of 16 for dinner at the Hand and we all had a great time in their very good restaurant.

FAB birthday lunch, great atmosphere, friendly and helpful staff, nothing was too much trouble. The food was excellent some exciting flavours all the way through the meal. The Welsh Cheddar Brulee to start with was amazing, served with an individual small loaf and wonderful butter, presentation was great. The cows cheeks were perfect, so tender and flavoursome and served with a smoked mash and a great selection of veg. Sticky toffee pudding was the best ever. Definitely recommend a visit am looking to visit again soon and have the tasting menu.

Popped in with my wife on a quiet Saturday lunchtime. We didn’t make a reservation but I would recommend phoning ahead - it was surprisingly busy. No wonder. The food is excellent. Tasty and well-presented. There is a good range of food on the menu plus a number of specials. I had the steak’n’ale pie while my wife had the fish’n’chips. Both excellent. Beware, huge portions, make sure you arrive hungry. Some good real ales available to accompany your food. Highly recommended.

Great meal chosen form a short menu, which is always a good sign in my books. Service was great, food special without pretending to be something it was not. 52 miles form home but wish it was closer, one for a quick return. Thanks to all.

Wow, only just discovered this place and it just down the road from where I now live!....I was treated to a 3 course lunch here by a wonderful friend for my 50th birthday. What can I say?..it was truly amazing, the food was fantastic, staff very friendly & attentive, & never complained even when I sent my drink flying!, lovely fire made it feel very snugly. My other half loved his takehome custard tart...said it was the best he has ever tasted. We were so stuffed could hardly walk! We will be back. Thank you for helping me have such a special birthday to remember, see you again soon! xx

This was our birthday outing whilst walking Offa's Dyke. The service was awful but not due to waitress - we suspected problems in kitchen but they did not seem to be forthcoming when asked. She (lone lady) spent al lot of time apologising. All present in dining room were visibly unhappy. The food was erratic and not consistent. I had sausage which was hot and ok but others had cold meals. I would not go back. Pity as dining room is pleasant and waitress very conscientious - let down by others.

My family are not in the habit of 'fine dining.' We had heard that meals at the Hand were recommended and were really just looking for a decent pub lunch. Thanks to good food and good company from the neighbouring table our meal took the best part of two hours. The Hand can't control who are company is but they can obviously control the food and I was impressed. I have to admit that I was a little disappointed at the size of my portion when it arrived. To me it looked rather on the small size, particularly as the prices were not cheap (though not actually unreasonable) but the truth is that come supper time I was not hungry so I must apologise to the chef who obviously knows his job! Taste and flavour I cannot complain about and my pudding - sticky toffee - was marvellous. Thanks to Mrs Greatorex for the recommendation! One final point is that we had to eat in the dining room. It is surely a recommendation that the bar area was full to capacity when we arrived and so had to overflow into the dining room.

Decided on a break away to Wales. After driving down many beautiful country lanes we came to The Hand. Beautiful country pub.A warm welcome greeted us and we were shown to a lovely room over looking the countryside. Went to the bar for dinner and had a lovely meal ( steak pie was the best). The bar was relaxed and welcoming.Had a restful couple of days.Thank you to Jonathon and Jackie for making us feel so welcome.

Food was lovely apart from hot and fiery wings, which were not very spicy were very nice. Good prices service very slow took 45 minutes to get a sandwich, due to kitchen equipment not working.
