The best restaurants serving Other cuisines food in East Midlands

I felt it was quite an awkward place. You have to book in advance for afternoon tea when in reality it was dry, cheap bread with probably aldi ham in the middle and dry cakes. Upon arrival the owner was leaning over the counter playing on her phone. No customer service. Once the food was placed in front of us I noticed that a hair was in one of the scones. She then replaced it with a small shop bought one. The other scone was very hard and dry. The cups were dirty and we had no spoons. The milk was a little off as if it had been sat on the table all day. Overall not a great experience. I think the whole afternoon tea was chucked together onto a cake stand, put on top of sticky tables, costing a couple of quid but charging people so much more. The whole experience was very awkward and it didn't feel very welcoming in there at all which is sad because it's not the service you would expect from a small local coffee shop. Costa provides a better experience!

Sausage: 1.5 - A pair of uninspired bangers is on offer at PJ's. Definitely on the lower end of the quality scale but that’s fairly common for a caff fry-up. Other Ingredients: 3.0 - I was given the choice of toast or fried bread when ordering, so naturally opted for the fried slice. And it was a triumph, perfectly crispy with the slightest hint of soggy – so lush. I quickly ramped up the delectable sogginess by cutting into the grilled tomato and egg yolks on the top, and adding a good portion of baked beans. Finally I must praise the bacon, large rashers with the fat still on, cooked the way I prefer. Nice work. Staff & Stuff: 3.5 - Staff so friendly that you won’t want to leave. Yes, really. This café is American-themed so you know what to expect décor and music-wise. It’s a very comfortable place and ideal for a spot of people watching with its big windows. Cutlery was the infant school variety which I’m not a fan of, but the warm welcome here is lovely. VFM: 3.0 - Breakfast £8.95, pot of tea £2.75, total £11.70. Pros and cons at PJ’s but overall I reckon it’s decent VFM. Yee-ha! Total: 11.0

I have been here several times before but not reviewed until today. I have always been served fairly quickly and politely. Only one occasion when wanting to order a fried breakfast just before the cut off 12 p.m. While I waited in the queue the time passed and when served was refused. Even though I explained I had been queuing with others also waiting. The staff member was quite rude loud and disagreed. Making sure others had heard her. And refused to take an order stating items are missing anyway. I've given the review very good because usually service is good. And the food items are of a good selection and prices are very reasonable.

Three of us went for lunch after hitting the charity shops in New Mills. We had to ask for the tables to be wiped down, but the staff did this quickly, no fuss. The food wasn’t quick to arrive but it was tasty when it did, and the americano coffee was decent too!

Great food, great staff, will be back , especially for the full English.

I had a great time, the staff were friendly and the food and drinks were served promptly. Would definitely recommend and will be visiting again.

There was a queue of customers with trolleys, full, and only one person on the till. Have people on the till! The poor lady on till didn't have a headset either so had to call over another employee on self-serve to ask for someone else to be on tills. And then when they did, they went to the far end, not the till next to, or one over. Meant people at the back rushed there and those who had been waiting longer in the middle of the line had to stay in that queue or be at the back of another. Terrible system. Would not do a big shop here again.

Chips were lovely but overpriced we used to visit a lot but at 29.00 for one pork cob which was average and two portions of homemade chips and two drinks was just to steep for purchase. It would have to be a treat to return at 6.00 for chips which would only feed one. We will have to say reluctant to return as better elsewhere for the money.

My husband & I have always loved our visits to our local Insomnia that has always been welcoming & a cheerful atmosphere as well as great drinks! Unfortunately on this occasion we were kept waiting while the server busied himself wiping down the shelf right in front of us, only stopping to tell us the café closes at 4pm Sunday times - it was only 15:05 No greeting, no smile as he asked what we wanted... I ordered hot chocolate & was told there was no cream... No apology or explanation... If I wasn't so desperate for a hot drink & a sit down, I'd have left the shop as I went to sit doen & waited for my husbandtobring our drinks.... One of the other servers came to clear a table next to ours so I took this opportunity to ask her if her colleague Partick was alright as I shared how unwelcoming he'd been towards us... We weren't expecting her response... "He's fine." No apology, just "he's fine" & rerurned to the serving area... Maybe the staff were having an 'off day', even though one of the servers was really kind towards my husband bless her as she took the time to explain why there wasn't any cream & hadn't been any all over the weekend... My husband’s coffee was fine & my hot chocolate was really really tasty, just wasn't hot enough so I was able to drink it in one go, so I ordered another & asked the lady who cleared the table next to us if it could be hotter this time as I explained how my previous one although very tasty wasn't that hot, again, no apology, just "so tou want it extra hit?"... Unfortunately although my drink was hotter, it lacked flavour so I didn't finish it. Not a good experience, but hey, like I said, maybe some of the staff were having a 'bad day'. Hopefully it'll be a better experience next time.

Excellent fish and chips. Cooked to order. The best I have had for a very long time. I Will definitely order from here again.

Bright and cheerful décor and furnishing. Warm welcome and good service. Interesting short menu. Excellent coffee. Good food at sensible prices. Well worth a visit.

Manager is unREAL. Such bad attitude towards customers. Asked to remove a picture from their Facebook as we didn’t get asked for permission to post it and I’m a very private person but they out rightly said no and were so unbelievably rude to me. Everyone in the place are really kind to customers apart from the manager who is unbelievably rude. I hope that she sees this and learns to be kind to customers. There’s a reason that there’s never anyone in there. She bars everyone who stands up to the abuse she shouts at paying customers. It’s a horrible environment to be in and I’d suggest going to catchems or the mount pleasant inn which are both down the road. Awful place.

This restaurant was great when it open. At the moment (September 2023) you are lucky if they have all the things in the menu… The waitress usually after checking with the kitchen will say that they don’t have what you just order…
