I felt it was quite an awkward place. You have to book in advance for afternoon tea when in reality it was dry, cheap bread with probably aldi ham in the middle and dry cakes. Upon arrival the owner was leaning over the counter playing on her phone. No customer service. Once the food was placed in front of us I noticed that a hair was in one of the scones. She then replaced it with a small shop bought one. The other scone was very hard and dry. The cups were dirty and we had no spoons. The milk was a little off as if it had been sat on the table all day. Overall not a great experience. I think the whole afternoon tea was chucked together onto a cake stand, put on top of sticky tables, costing a couple of quid but charging people so much more. The whole experience was very awkward and it didn't feel very welcoming in there at all which is sad because it's not the service you would expect from a small local coffee shop. Costa provides a better experience!

A nice little quaint café that is dog friendly. Perhaps not somewhere I'd go regularly, but my experience was good with quick service, a nice drink and a tasty piece of cake.

I have been to this cafe 3 times now and I find the staff grumpy/unhelpful, the tea in short supply when I’ve had afternoon tea (twice) and the food quantity/quality minimal.

We had a couple of panini's & coffees today. The coffee was O.K.. The panini's were awful! Tiny amounts of bacon & not enough brie to taste the favour in both halves of the Panini's - both were the same... basically bread panini's with a hint of filling. There was only one member of staff & it's a big ask to take orders, make drinks, cook food & clear up. The pressure of all that work meant there was no time for friendly service. It's a shame, but we won't h be back..

Awful place do not go there unless you like dry cake and a rude customer service experience (which seems a common theme looking at previous reviews)! What a waste of £16 for three slices of cake and 2 cups of coffee/1 milkshake. Very poor!

Awful customer experience skills! I will be surprised if this cafe will survive with such an unfriendly service!

I visited with some work colleagues to use some gift vouchers we had been given. The setting is small but nice and we were welcomed on our arrival. The teas came promptly but I was a little disappointed with the content. The sandwiches were good with a choice of tuna, egg, cheese and ham alongside some crisps and half a cheese topped cob. There was some kind of cream soufflé which deflated a little in the heat; I’m not entirely sure what was in the bottom part but it tasted like butterscotch Angel Delight. The scone was small with jam and cream already on it; and don’t get me started on the cupcake. I’m sorry to say that it looked, and tasted, like something bought from a budget supermarket. The choice of teas/coffee was good and we had a fill up when we asked for it. In all it was a pleasant afternoon but I was disappointed in the value of what we got for £15 per head. I won’t be rushing back.

Popped in with the family to a warm welcome. It was our first visit. Lovely little place with comfy seating. Loved the milkshakes and tasty panini.

if you're a naturally rude person..why have a cafe'? I was going to order lunch but the woman that owns this place made me feel so rubbish, I changed my mind and walked out. Won't bother again. Spoken to a few friends since who have all agreed that she isn't good at customer service at all. Such a shame because I love to support local business.. but I will not spend my money to be spoken to in that way.

We thought we would try here after seeing some good reviews. It was dreadful - we ordered 3 jacket potatoes - 2 with tuna mayo and 1 with beans, latte (one with coconut milk) and 1 tea. First of all we were brought the lattes I asked which one had coconut milk and gave it to my dairy free Son (who was up here just for the weekend) but this was the wrong one so we swapped - GOOD JOB HE DIDN'T DRINK IT. Then after a VERY LONG wait 1 tuna jacket and l beans jacket came out. They were SO SMALL and NO SALAD GARNISH (which is something we always have (whether it's mentioned on the menu or not) £5.25 each - daylight robbery. We travel all over England and Scotland and these were the POOREST WE HAVE EVER HAD. Our son is a senior lecturer living in London and, of course, eats out a lot and he was as appalled as we were. I also had to wait another 10-15 minutes for my jacket so it meant we couldn't all eat together. Then to top it all we were charged the wrong price and my husband had to go back into Coco TWICE before they sorted it out and gave us a £3 refund. We have just had a winter break in York and ate out a lot in independent coffee shops and restaurants and had great food and value for money especially being a city!!! I have only ever once found the need to leave a poor review and that was in Hull for a Sunday roast which was all frozen potatoes and vegetables and not even hot, so it's not something that I do. DISGUSTED I WOULD LEAVE NO STARS IF I COULD. HOW THEY HAVE THE NERVE TO CHARGE THESE PRICES FOR WHAT YOU GET IS SCANDALOUS.

Very disappointing horrible margarine served with the scones and on the sandwiches, drinks served in chipped cups so had to ask for a new cup and butter. Not asked how things were plus it was very cold so kept our coats on . Not an experience to be recommended

I recently enjoyed a luxury afternoon tea at Coco. The sandwiches and cakes were delicious. We were welcomed with a non-alcoholic glass of fizz and we were provided with unlimited tea and coffee. We could not eat all of the food so were given a goody bag to take home with us. A lovely relaxing way to spend an afternoon.

Tried to book on 2 occasions for afternoon tea bought for me by my daughter for my birthday. Both times been made to feel as if i was lying about having a valid voucher. This morning she said, i will have to check it when you come in as, some people, not saying its you, actually make the vouchers up fraudulently? I was appalled by the service i recieved and on principal will not be using my birthday present. I will however be dropping by the coffee shop to show the valid business card with tea for tw9 written on ot. Disgusting customer service. My daughter thst purchased this voucher will also be voicing her views.

Beautiful little coffee/tea house with a great choice of cakes and snacks. The soups are homemade and to die for. I particularly love the background music. It creates a very chilled vibe in the place. Go here...not Costa or cafe Nero.

My sister in law and I were treated to a delightful relaxing time at Coco's by my Niece with a superb afternoon tea. We were served a varied selection of sandwiches and savoury, warm scones, followed by sweet scones, jam, clotted cream, and an ample selection of cakes. We were offered more pots of tea as we required. It was incredibly relaxing and unrushed as we whiled away the afternoon. I myself don't drink tea so the offer of a cup of coffee as part of the package would have made the experience perfect.

Small, cosy cafe with really comfy seating set out in fun ways but affording good privacy from spot to spot. Ordered a simple tea and scone - it turned out to be an utter treat. Not just flung on a plate with a plastic portion of jam... but beautifully presented with fresh fruit (as well as clotted cream and jam in pots). Told too there was more cream and jam if needed. We were sharing this and a caramel shortbread and left feeling utterly spoilt. All baked by the owner who had a good wit, warmth and clear passion for good customer service standards. Really great value too - as all this came in well under a tenner (For two 'cakes', coffee and a pot of tea - that actually gave me three cups!) Wasn't expecting this in the centre of a town - but would make a beeline for this place in future. Really impressed. Highly recommend.

I won an afternoon tea voucher for here at a local summer fete. Called in to book and arranged for the following day as 24 hours notice required. We had a fantastic afternoon tea, really friendly service and the food was fresh and tasty. Unlimited refills of tea. We also took home what we couldn't manage to eat! Would definitely recommend coco.

Having visited coco on many occasions I feel I must express the wonderful welcome. You get, it is a coffee shop with a really nice selection of home made cakes and pastries (baked on the premises) Having been connected in the food and bakery industry for over 45. Years I find this little side street coffee shop is certainly worth a visit for good tea and coffee and the selection of cakes. You must realise that here you get quality food and drink but no chips or burgers which sometimes is a wonderful change Highly recommended

For a small coffee shop, presumably wanting customers, this cafe is failing. It is ideally situated near the bus stops but the choice of anything to eat is very limited and the server unfailingly offhand.

What a wonderful evening we had. I went with a group of friends for the pudding club and it was superb. Amazing range of desserts and incredible service. Most of us didn't finish and were given doggy bags which even included some of the leftover cheese. It was also great value for money. Definitely worth a visit.

Pudding club is run every Tuesday (pre-book) 6pm - 9pm. 7 puddings with unlimited tea and coffee. I booked this for my partners birthday as he loves his desserts. The cafe is small and decorated lovely. The lady who makes the puddings and also served us was very friendly and helpful... certificate for anyone who completes the 7 puddings! I thought we would easily be able to complete the 7 puddings but boy was I wrong! The desserts are full sized! The sticky toffee puddings was delicious and definitely my favourite! My partner enjoyed the chocolate torte best of all. Cheese and crackers is a course to help digestion and it actually does and is a pleasant change from all the sweet, rich puddings. We decided not to complete the challenge but to enjoy the courses we could and take the rest home. I highly recommend visiting this lovely vintage style cafe.
