Discovered The Plough after going there for a family meal and have now added it to the list of places not to forget! The food here is lovely, as are the staff! Carvery is so good! My 2yr old loved hers too! Unfortunately we didn’t manage puddings although the small but impressive menu looked 10/10. Food was hot, and tasty. We had drinks outside before we ordered food whilst waiting for everyone to arrive and even the drinks were a hit, even the pint of squash for the little ones! We will definitely be returning here for our Carveries in the future! Just can’t wait to go back!

We had a lovely carvery for a family of 12 today ( Easter Sunday) the food was brilliant as was the service! Really good value for money and cooked perfectly. A nice family run pub. The pub probably needs an update in areas but then that’s most local lovely pubs! Thanks for a great afternoon and the Easter egg after was such a nice touch, kids loved it 😊 thank you Martin and team x

What a hidden gem. Called at last minute for a motorhome stopover. Lovely, friendly welcoming pub, with delicious, well presented selection of tasty dishes at fair prices. Attentive staff & service! Dog friendly, quiet nights sleep. Highly highly recommended. ( Great atmosphere with friendly locals, teaching us a new card game, few laughs, not forgetting Bailey, the dog!)

Had been informed that this was an 'amazing' carvery. Arrived to find restaurant empty, only 2 parties booked so table service only, I would have liked to have known this when booking then we wouldn't have wasted our time and money. Half hour wait to be asked for our choices, I explained to chef which person had the allergy, she replied with raised eyebrows, eyes to the ceiling and a huf. Beef tough, pork really strong, veg too soft, stuffing hard, yorkies floppy, roast potatoes obviously cooked and recooked- rock hard outer. Wait for apple sauce was so long we had nearly finished our dinner. Dessert - pie, pastry soggy, undercooked and brown. Very big mix up on the day, a party of 15 arrived for a 90th celebration with confirmation of booking but staff on duty not aware of booking. I wish they had then we may have got a carvery, personally, I could have had a better lunch at Toby or hungry horse.

Mother’s Day carvery booked for 2.30, got seated just before 3. Worst carvery I’ve ever seen or eaten. The broccoli and peas/green beans were brown and burnt in the serving pan so didn’t bother with those. The mash looked really dry so also didn’t bother. The roast potatoes were soggy but also hard and the Yorkshire puddings were sunken and soggy, they had obviously been there for a few hours. At £16 a head and £13 each for a 2 and 5 year old I would expect something really good. We also had to change our drinks to start as they were so bad and the woman behind the bar was very rude so didn’t think it worth our breath complaining about the terrible food. Would not recommend and definitely won’t return. The carpark and little garden out back are also full of dog poo, which we found out when the 2 young kids went running back to the car. Also overcharged us by over £30 which we had to challenge a couple of times before they admitted their mistake.

Went for Sunday dinner but was a little disappointed, felt was run down smelt stale in the lounge, nothing to dry hands on in toilets. Also food wasn't great although I'd heard good things about their food.. Beef was great but unfortunately the rest was overcooked and dry, Yorkshire looked fab but were dry and tasted old as were the roast potatoes. Drove 50 minutes to get here for our dad's birthday as a surprise but unfortunately I will not be returning. Best bit was getting greeted by all the doggies.

We were staying a short walk away from this pub. There are two pubs close to each other but this came recommended by the owner of our B&B. First visit was only for a quiet drink and landlady was very welcoming. They have homemade pie which is very popular. We returned the following evening to eat and wasn't disappointed. I had cheese flan, light with a lovely thin crispy pastry. Home cooked chips with side salad. My partner had the steak and ale pie, again all home cooked. Empty plates say it all. This place is situated in a lovely village surrounded by lots of scenic walks and fantastic vistas. There are lots of local pubs who have tapped into this market, unfortunately this is one that has not. The place is run down and horrible. It smells and the toilets are filthy. We had a drink here and decided not to eat. The staff are more interested in smoking and prolong up the door. I am glad it was summer as we sat outside, I wouldn’t want to sit inside for long. The place could have so much potential. Opposite is a coffee bar which we decided to have a snack at. In comparison it was full of locals and cyclists and we had a snack for lunch. The pub is in a great location but needs a hell of a lot of TLC to make me want to consider coming back. Such a shame

Sunday Carvery amazing, food hot and tasty with good choice of veg. The Restaurant has been refurbished and looks very nice. The staff are friendly. But please remember it’s a pub serving food with local people working here, it’s not a Michelin starred restaurant. For the price you get a good home cooked Sunday Dinner.

I took my partner to the Plough for Sunday lunch, we had paid in advance on a voucher scheme, we had purchased the voucher two months earlier and were really looking forward to eating at the Plough. We booked a table during the morning of our visit. The journey took about 25 minutes, we arrived 30 minutes early. On our arrival we had a drink in the lounge, which we paid for, I produced the voucher. I was told in no uncertain terms that we were supposed to book 48 hours in advance if we used the voucher. However, after they had a long discussion behind the scenes, we were "allowed" to stay and eat. The pub was not busy to say the least, but we were made to feel humble over this voucher situation, which quite destroyed our mood. We sat in the lounge to enjoy our drink and we were informed that we would be called through to the dining room "in a few minutes". During the time we waiting, another couple came in with a prepaid voucher and were told in no uncertain terms that the vouchers were only for "new customers", they left after a heated discussion, saying they would never comeback to the pub again!!We sat there for 35 minutes in total, which took us 5 minutes past our time to eat and as we were getting a prepaid for drink with our meal and we needed to eat. I went to the bar and was treated with mild hostility and we were shown to our table with a very cold shoulder!!! We thought, perhaps, the dining room would be busy, but only a quarter of the tables were taken. The carvery was poor with only a choice of beef or pork, no white meat or vegetarian option was offered, the soup and sweet were well presented and the waitress was attentive. We had to ask for our inclusive drink. After our meal, we had nothing further to pay we left a tip for the waitress and proceeded to the car park. Just before we got into the car we were accosted by the previous "cold shoulder" person, who accused us of not paying for the drink we had prior to the meal, no apology was forthcoming after she realised we had paid for the first drinks !!!Needless to say, like the other couple,we will not be going back there to eat!!!.

Visited this place today for Sunday lunch with my partner, not a good choice as it was not on the voucher that we had to give 48 hours notice. The bar maid was not friendly and said she didn't think we could use the voucher, although we paid for it in January. We waited whilst she checked with the manager who was in a dispute with another couple with a Groupon voucher, they walked out saying they wouldn't ever visit again. We arrived at 1.30 hoping to eat earlier, the place was almost empty. The manager said yes we could stay for lunch, which was a carvery two courses with wine.We were led into the restaurant which again was not busy.My partner chose soup for one course and I chose a sweet. The soup was well presented and very nice. The carvery was poor with only beef or pork,no vegetarian option. The veg was just warm and the Yorkshire puddings over cooked. No complaint about the Baked Alaska,it was delicious. We were not asked if we would like a glass of wine, which we paid for,we had to ask for it.We were the only couple left in the restaurant, the staff were in the kitchen,no one ask if we enjoyed the meal,no one to say goodbye. We left and proceeded to the car, hastily chased by the unfriendly barmaid saying we hadn't paid for our drink,we reminded her that it was part of our voucher deal,no apology just a sour look.will NEVER go to this place again.

When we ordered, she pointed out that there was a special steak night offer, which we took advantage of. The steak was excellent ( I usually order mine "rare", which is not always cooked properly, but this fitted the bill exactly) and with a starter, and dessert and tip the total bill was around £40.00. We thought it excellent value and had a most enjoyable experience.

I have bought a Groupon deal - 2 course Sunday Carvery meal with wine for 4 (with 32% off). Then sent an email for a month in advance booking and got replied with confirmation email on the same day. On the day, we arrived slightly earlier than the time that I booked, but their service is very good, not long after we sat down and waited at the bar, we were asked to be seated at the dining room with a line of amazing freshly cooked carvery and vegetables. We were served a glass of 175ml red wine each on our table, and they were delicious. There are choices of pork or beef roast with crackling at the side, freshly cut in a few thin stripe as request on site, both were excellently cooked and comes with a freshly baked home-made Yorkshire pudding. We help ourselves with all the vegetables, and were nicely cooked in the right temperature, not over cook at all. We were very fond of the roast potatoes and the roast parsnip. The gravy are to die for !! Thick and tasty, reminds me the delicious Christmas dinner we have once every year. We weren't a big eater but there are plenty of food to go round. We have seen quite a few people had placed 'mountain' plate of food and went second go if you still able to fill in some more in your stomach. Dessert : We had order 4 different types of dessert, they were all lovely. Creme Caramel is in the sweety side, but the caramel sauce is finger licking good. I had the lemon meringue and it is just the right sweetness, not too sweet and not too bitter. The home-made black forest gateau is quite good too.

I expected the usual Sunday dinner from a pub carvery, that you usually get; i.e. quite good, but the food here, was absolutely excellent! For £10 a head, you get a good serving of a choice of meats and Yorkshire Pud, and then help yourself from a large selection of beautifully cooked vegetables and roast 'taters.I doubt anything here is frozen, or pre-prepared, as it all tasted like proper "Home-Cooked", as the dessert (included in the price) was also home made!All-in-all a very excellent meal indeed!

We took 8 people and did not need to prebook tis time. The pies were all splendid, a wedge not a 2 pounder (most of which I would't finish). Good gravy, perfect chips. We even had room for pudding, which was also excellent. The Golden ale they had on this week was nectar, and I would give 5* for the ambiance and the service. Our server Brook was exemplary, friendly without being pushy, helpful and informative. On leaving I suggested the whole evening was so good that I would write it up to tripadvisor, if only if I could be *rsed. Putting her hands on her hips she bellowed "Well Be *rsed!!!" Style..... We will be going again.

We've visited on a number of occasions. Home cooked carvery with good choice of vegetables. Delicious homemade puddings and desserts, none of which are Gluten and Dairy free. As the price includes both courses, that means a dessert to take home for later!

1st course was runny mushroom soup minus the mushrooms. I had prawn cocktail with limp lettuce. The main course had over coked beef; potatoes should have been roasted, but the were very over fried and uneatable. Vegetables were mushy and overcooked. Staff were not very friendly.. Finally we had a glass of wine each, I ordered Chardonnay and my Mother ordered Pinot. we could not tell the difference. Sorry to say not a place I would recommend

Went with a party of friends. As there were 9 of us we were asked to pre-order, and the food arrived very promptly. It was all good home-made stuff with lashings of veg and excellent Belvoir Star beer. There was a bit of a grumble in that their website doesn't mention that Fridays are "pie night". It was a Friday and some of us might have ordered differently had we known. All the same, we'll definitely be going again.

Like many other reviewers, we tried a sunday lunch courtesy of a Groupon voucher and that is definitely the only way we would visit this eatery. The lounge and bar seemed quaint enough and the staff were efficient and welcoming but the experience rapidly went downhill from there. From the traditional surroundings of the bar we were ushered into the restaurant which had the distinct ambience of a canteen with tables crammed together to maximise profit and elbow room at a premium. The home-made vegetable soup was excellent but that was the end of any semblance of good traditional fare.Burnt yorkshires, overdone roast potatoes and carvery meat that owed more to a school kitchen than a decent restaurant. Everyone appreciates the need for businesses to make money and keep overheads down but the standard of this catering food was well below that which one might expect from an English country pub.At a voucher price of £15 for two which included two glasses of passable red vino we left feeling let down rather than robbed but at the full price of almost £30 it would have been a disaster. "Give it a miss" might be the kindest comment.

We've tried to book The Plough at Stathern at least 3-4 times after we'd purchased a Groupon voucher!! Each time we were told they were fully booked, this Sunday was the last in the deal, we were told on Thursday again it was fully booked, only to find out a relative rang up & booked a normal table 2 days later and was offered two different times(very strange considering they were fully booked) The said relatives went for dinner but said the restaurant certainly wasn't full. So Resturants/Pubs shouldn't participate in these deals if there not willing to fulfil the vouchers once they've had the money from Groupon !! Also when trying to book the male we spoke to was certainly not friendly!! BEWARE if any more deals come up ! DO NOT BUY !!! This is a real shame as food/chef is really good.

Booked two weeks in advance as per Groupon Voucher rules. On arrival we were told the voucher could not be redeemed as we did not have a security number. The person taking the booking should have asked us for this but he did not and there is nowhere on the voucher that says you must give it. So at 2 PM we were refused lunch and had travelled 20 miles to get there. The landlord said we could rebook for another time but I think the poor customer service put us off.

We bought a Groupon Sunday lunch and were delighted at the friendly service and lovely carvery.Looking at their other nights, Friday is pie night all hand made and real pies, it will be another visit to report on that. Lovely family running the pub so friendly. Beer, from a local brewery, was superb. Can't fault it and we'll be back there soon!

This was purchased through Groupon and when we arrived the bar area was extremely crowded and there was a large queue waiting to be served. It turned out they were short staffed. After a long wait we did get served and managed to get a seat in the bar prior to going through to the restaurant area near to the open fire which was very welcome considering the cold weather. The pub does need a bit of TLC but to be honest I did not mind this as I found it to be comfortable and relaxing. The food was lovely with a good choice of vegetables. My only criticism, the beef was so thinly sliced that it would have been more suitable for a sandwich than a Sunday lunch!! All in all it was worth the visit.

Bought groupon, booked approx 5 weeks in advance clearly stating this was a groupon. When arrived today 01/03/15 after spending time organising and travelling found we were dealt with oh are you on on groupon? After a time delay the pub manager/owner or whatever came through and stated that they had a record of the booing but didn't have the groupon booking/code and needed 48 hours notice. The guy was repulsive to the point that no matter what you said or told him that the booking was clearly made and stated that this was a groupon he said "it is not in the book" and clearly showed no interest in serving us as a groupon deal but would have served at their stated normal prices. Before this incident I was initially impressed and thought about returning another night for their pie night. After this incident I will not be going there and also advising friends and family how we were treated. Cannot comment actually on the food etc as I refused to eat after our encounter. An hour of our lives wasted going there and we went on to eat elsewhere. I will never step in this pub again !!

If you just want good food with friendly, efficient service then this a good place to go. If you want more then it's not. The interior décor and carpets are in need of a makeover, the toilets likewise and there is a fusty smell that seems to follow you around. The food alone would merit four stars but whole experience drags it back to average.

We had a group of 11 women and after preordering from the online menu we had our dinner within minutes of arriving with beautiful seasonal veg and really good service. The pub was quiet but it was well decorated with Christmas decorations and the beer was good. Well priced, honest food. Some of the specials looked nice like the game pie. Would definitely return.
