John and Kathy are amazing, food is always amazing, can't fault in any way

Great pub food and very friendly atmosphere - we will return!

Me and wife always stay half way up on our travels to Newcastle to see family. Often at grantham in premiere inn, but this time we did something a little different and stayed at an air b and b at saltby a local village. What a great decision. We arrived quite late around 8pm and literally just opposite was a local pub called the Nags Head. We went straight across to look at the opening times and headed back just to take bags to room. As we walked away the landlord John came out and greeted us outside. He was amazingly attentive and welcoming offering us a menu to browse whilst returning to our room. This pub is an amazing little Gem. The food is extremely delicious, homemade, locally sourced thanks to kathy and great value for money. Although there was not many people there at first the atmosphere was great, cosy and soon got busier as time went on. The toilet facilities are of high clean and decorative state. I always believe this sets the standards of an establishment. We would definitely come back. We would like to thank the landlords for the hard work and wonderful experience. We wish you all the very best for the future and can not wait to return.

Just great drinks served chilled 😜 thankyou that's what you call customer service 💛 the food was lovley I tried the fish and chips, I have to just add how clean are your toilets 🩷👍 even provided with hand cream can not beat a village pub it seems 🥳🥳 I would very much like to visit again soon thankyou for a lovely evening family meal 👌

First class food, good value, great hosts

Have been visiting the Nags Head for many years. Yesterday was a birthday celebration meal for my daughter. Food is excellent, never had a bad meal. Would thoroughly recommend the Nags Head.

We called into the pub tonight for a meal we were warmly welcomed by the landlord john who made us feel more than welcome after our meal we were greeted by his wife Kathy who asked if our meal and if everything was ok the food and service was absolutely fantastic and we would highly recommend this pub

Attended a lovely Wedding Reception here .Lovely country pub with great owners and staff . The buffet food was all homemade and absolutely delicious ,infact abit too delicious!! We had a great time and the owners could nt have been better .

The Nag's Head at Saltby is lovely Country Pub serving excellent food . The Landlord and Landlady John & Cathy are very friendly and provide a great welcome. The menu changes regularly and features a good variety of well presented dishes. There's a rear garden with tables for summer drinking. The pub is easy to find in the middle of the village and there's plenty of parking nearby.

From the first booking phone call with Kathy - this was a pleasurable experience. We were staying friends staying locally and meeting up after lockdown and the pub was a recommendation. The covid rules are all adhered to and we sat outside in a very pleasant garden area. The food was excellent and Kathy and John are great hosts and so welcoming. thank you for taking such good care of us

How to go above and beyond in the hospitality industry! While out house visiting, with a view to moving to the area, we wanted to check out the local pubs, we pulled up, could see the lights on and the fire lit but the door was locked. So I rang to see when they opened, John answered, I explained and he said, give me a minute, and then let us in, both he and his wife were so welcoming. We had a quick tour before being asked if we wanted a drink and having a good chat about the pub, local area, the clientele etc. An offer has been put in on a house and my parents are looking forward to having the Nags Head as their local!

It’s been a while and we thought we would like to call in. We had not booked and it was very busy. This was not a problem and a table was arranged. Staff very friendly and a warm welcome. food is good honest home cooked. Enjoyed the meal and will not leave it so long to return.

I came to the Nags Head for Sunday lunch to celebrate my birthday with my family. The landlord and his staff could not be more welcoming. The pub always has a lovely warm and welcoming atmosphere. This was our first visit for Sunday lunch and it was fantastic. The home cooked food was amazing with lots of lovely fresh veg and all the trimmings. My vegetarian dish was delicious. The service is fantastic and we happily spent a few hours without feeling rushed. We all wished we had room for dessert but unfortunately we were all so full. My family were really impressed and will definitely be back. Thanks to John and his team for making my birthday very special!

Definitely worth a stop as this is a charming little village pub in rural Leicestershire. Lovely main bar area with a fire, darts, TV and piano(!) and large dining rooms to the back. We're didn't eat this time but have previously loved the food. Good selection of local ales on tap and 15 gins. The landlord is terribly friendly and welcoming, and the pub really seems to be a proper part of village life here. Recommended.

13 of us for Sunday lunch today, food excellent food, riendly and efficient staff well worth a visit, hope to be back would be perfect if it wasn’t 40 miles from home.

Excellent place to eat we went there last week for lunch again they had swordfish serve d with Greek salad it was fantastic such a change from the normal run of the mill meals they change the menu every month but I will definitely be back before they take it off the menu my husband normally has fish and chips as he says it's the best in the Vale but he had a ribeye steak with all the trimmings and said it was excellent all good value for the money

Our 1st visit here, good service and lovely food, and at a good price, home made chips was a big plus, nice clean pub with a wonderful decor.... parking not so good but we managed.. would visit again

A lovely pub with great hosts, John and Kathy, nothing too much trouble! Just enjoyed their special bank holiday burger night, with a lovely halloumi burger was delicious and the best chips! Can’t recommend enough!

John and Kathy are great landlords who make you feel very welcome. On our lunchtime visit, there was a small but all homemade menu. Food was delicious and generous portions. Well worth finding this great pub.

Lovely home cooked Sunday roast dinner with the most amazing Yorkshire puddings. Very tasty and also great puddings on offer. The landlord and landlady were very friendly and gave the place a very homely feel. Well worth a visit. Highly recommended.

We arrived to a lovely, warm welcome by the Landlord John, the food was excellent especially the Sunday roast and cookie bash cake! The staff were excellent and nothing was to much to ask. We will definitely be returning!

Value for money, always good food, company and service

This was our first time for Sunday lunch and we were not disappointed. We have been on quite a number of visits to this delightful country inn and we’ve never been let down. Today as always, the food was excellent, the service and staff were great and a lovely pint of real ale. For our friends it was their first visit and they were very impressed. Such a well organised pub as well. Dog friendly and children are made welcome. Thoroughly recommended.

My family and I came here for a mid week meal as we were recommended by the waitress that works there, The pub was easy to find and when we got in we were sat promptly with our drinks and comprehensive menus for a small village pub. We all had starter and a main I had the deep fried Brie which was nice in a crisp batter however was very sickly my husband had black pudding which was huge! But he said was lovely also. I then had pie as did my mother in-law and my husband and his dad had the steak which were both flavourful and well cooked. The portion sizes where good and they had plenty of veg choices including roasted beetroot!!! By the end of the meal the bar in the pub was getting busy with locals and seemed to have a good atmosphere.

The pub was pretty busy when we visited, but we were still able to sit in the bar with our drinks and space was found for us in the restaurant ( think about booking to be on the safe side). The staff, landlord and landlady were charming and the food was excellent.

Visited today having travelled there to go walking. Full of locals hogging the bar area. Were intending to stay for a meal but were made to feel so unwelcome that we drank up and left. I hear they do good food but if they want people to stay they need to try a bit harder.

We received a very warm welcome, the atmosphere is good and very relaxing. This is a hidden gem, I am almost tempted to give this a bad review in order to put people off. It's clean, it's got great staff, the food has the home cooked quality and tastes great. Excellent value.

Visited for the first time and enjoyed very friendly hospitality from Landlord, John, and his team. A couple of decent Ales on tap and friendly locals too. This is a low-key place with a solid menu of decent home cooked food. Overall, a pleasant experience for a night out.

We went here on St Patrick's Night where a live Ceilidh Band had been booked. The food was great. I particularly enjoyed the special, Irish Stew! Some great beers on offer and some great music and singing which helped to make the occasion very special. This is a great pub serving some exceptionally good food.

I stopped in for a meal with my family after a long day on the road through business. Family members had said the food was excellent, however I could not find any review about the place online. So I added this place to trip advisor for a good reason, its excellent food.
