Blonde woman who works here needs to learn how to talk to people nicely. Went for ice creams for the kids at 14:40 and on entering she snaps to not close the door behind us. I was only being polite and didn't know it was warm inside. Went to order some ice creams, cakes and a toastie but she said in an eye rolling manner 'we're not serving hot food' I said 'what foods are you serving?' Thinking it was something to do with the heat; maybe they were only serving cold foods/sandwiches? She said 'only cakes and coffees as we're closing soon'. I just left with out buying anything as I didn't want to be a burden to her 16:00 closing time. If the woman was polite and explained things in a less snappy manner I would have settled for a few cakes and ice creams (without the meal). I would recommend self reflection and possibly communication training skills (unless it is due to a severe learning disability).

Popped in for a coffee and cake with my little one. 3 teenager behind the counter and yet took 15 mins to bring a hot drink and a scone. When I arrived a customer was asking for his coffee, the girl behind the till was very rude to him despite the fact he was polite. Scone was hard and arrived with shed loads of jam and a tiny bit of cream already put on the scone. Coffee was undrinkable. Sad as last time we went it was nice, has gone down hill massively!

Stopped for Sunday lunch today during our walk . We waited nearly an hour for food and when it arrived the whole meal was nearly inedible , waterlogged vegetables, burnt roast potatoes , soggy mash which tasted like instant and Luke warm . We had to ask 3 times for our cups of tea . I paid the £22 and will not return . A shame really as the lady running the place was nice but something needs to be done about the food . I would have been embarrassed to serve that mush !!!!

Usually never had a problem with coming here however today was not a good experience. We ordered 3 big Ben breakfast's and a tea and 2 fresh oranges. We waited over half an hour for the drinks to arrive and nearly an hour for the breakfast to arrive. When the breakfast arrived part of it was hot and part of it was stone cold. Needless to say we sent them back. 5 minutes later we got the breakfast back only to realise they must have been put into the microwave! The toast was soggy and my egg was not the same egg I had originally had and it was colder than the first! We had no apology from the staff whatsoever. There were 5 staff on so not sure what was going on. We won't be coming back!!

Ironic that this is called the clockwork cafe when the service is this slow! Maybe the clock is broken… We went for lunch on Sunday and ordered two lattes and two toasties. The cafe was busy so we expected a bit of a wait but didn’t get our drinks for half an hour and it was over 45 minutes before the toasties arrived! A coffee and a toastie do not take long to make! There were about 5 staff on but I’m not sure what they were all doing. At one point one of the staff started going round the tables asking people what they had ordered so really not sure what was going on! Thankfully our food has arrived by then, I think I would have got up and left at that point if I’d been waiting 45 mins and then was asked what I had ordered!

Can't believe the negative review on here. This cafe is our first choice when in New Mills. Over the years we've tried most things, lunches, snacks, cakes and all are lovely. Seen them unloading the fresh ingredients many times, all the best quality. Will cook anything as you want it. They were absolute stars during Covid restrictions with queues outside. All with a smile. What more can you ask for? Staff are friendly, time to chat even when busy (and it's always busy!). Will be back asap.

Stopped here for coffee and cake. They do not know how to make coffee here. Is was a weak latte at best. I had asked for a flat white- please do some research and train your staff. Tall mugs don’t help. The cake that I had must have been a week old at least. Stale and dry. Very disappointing visit for something so simple.

Lovely friendly cafe with great service. I had salmon and broccoli quiche which was delicious and have to say the best ever, pastry divine. My hubby had broccoli and Stilton soup with fresh bread and real butter. Very reasonably priced and I highly recommend.

Lovely friendly staff went out off there way to make our visit memorable. My friend ordered a coffee and wanted decaf which they didn’t have, so they went out and bought some for him, I thought that was very thoughtful. We got talking to the owner and we had a great banter with her. Keep up the great work and we will definitely be in again. Oh and the breakfast was lovely especially the black pudding cooked to perfection.

First tried this place a few weeks ago and have been back 3 times since. First, the food is fresh - like baked today, cooked today fresh. Fresh scones, sausage rolls, cake, everything. It's all so delicious. Staff are lovely people as well. Note it's not the place to come to if you want bearded baristas and overpriced avocade wraps, but there are plenty of other places like that lol.

One member of staff was really rude, didn’t smile once, practically shouted at me when I asked for a menu. Everything felt like it was too much trouble. Food was average, mine was cold in the middle. Wouldn’t return.

I eat here often, in normal times, because it serves tasty well priced home cooked food that comes steaming hot. Will wait to eat there if out for the day as I really enjoy the food and considerate friendly staff. Try the chicken and leek pie or the cauliflower and cheese soup, delicious! They are serving take away during lockdown.

Unfortunately what could have been a lovely family lunch out (only two adults and one child), turned into an hour wait for a very simple order (two sandwiches, a bowl of soup and a kids meal). The cafe is not very big and there were almost as many staff as customers. No apology was made at any point during the delay, nor when we paid to leave. The contents of the sandwiches were not what we ordered and it is no wonder as we were asked to recall everything again we had when paying. Too many incompetent staff, lacking any degree of customer service skill. The food was average and whilst the cakes looked fab, it is safe to say we didn't hang around as were pretty disgruntled by the lack of apology or awareness from the staff regarding the monumental and unnecessary delay.

Popped in twice now for a soup and sarnie with a brew. Warm welcome and homemade soups are a lovely taste with a pleasing sarnie salad to go with. Nice vibe and good pricing in a central location opposite the sainsburies and bus routes.

Family and friends Sunday lunch. Roasts were awful; very very dry beef (only meat option); frozen shop bought dry soggy roasties; lacking flavour watery gravy and not a lot of it; soggy deflated Yorkshire pudding. My mouth was so dry after chewing so hard on the beef. Best thing were the boiled carrot batons. Lasagne seemed shop bought/ processed sauces etc, and the 2 slices of frozen garlic bread dry and lacking flavour. The sting was that the lasagne was around £18, and the roast £16 - the portions were very small too. Could get better at Morrisons cafe sorry to say! Service was friendly, and the free pool and darts made up for the very disappointing meal. We’ve been going to The George for at least 10 years and it was very good 10 years ago; good value for large tasty meals (especially the blue cheese burger on a floury bap with curly fries and salad for under a tenner - i know prices have gone up for various reasons so it’s not the price that’s an issue if the food is decent and a good portion, but I felt well and truly ripped off). Please improve as we want to visit more as we’re local and love Hayfield and don’t want to see another pub close (sad to see The Royal go - Sportman down the road and Packhorse are great! As is Old Hall Inn in Chinley) due to lack happy returning customers. Good luck!

We loved our lunch here, and the service was excellent! It was a big contrast with another place we tried earlier, where they halted service for 10 minutes in order to "catch up" - how ridiculous! We were made to feel welcome at Stars, despite it being busy, and couldn't fault our delicious food, at a good price too 😋. They're missing a trick by not having Buxton pudding on the menu though - surely we're not the only people who like to sample local specialities when visiting a place for the first time?
