Popped here for a quick cuppa. Can't rave about it, but have no real complaints either. Loads of tea in a teapot, but chocolate brownie was a tad dry. Try it out for yourself. Sorry, can't be more helpful, but it's not that big a deal to write a longer review.

popped into Buxton and decided to grab a bite to eat, decided on the tea rooms and so glad we did. I was with my mum, dad and 2 year old daughter! We had breakfast! The coffee was lovely, I had a vanilla latte! My dad had a cappuccino, he commented how lovely it was too (we are coffee snobs admittedly and very picky)! Oatcakes were lovely, little one had porridge and a teacake! Bread was good, not plastic and from a local bakery! The girls who ran the place were so friendly and welcoming! A true gem in the heart of Buxton! Thanks for having us

Looking for a cuppa after the pandemic it was found in this great family run tea room. Staff are welcoming with a smile in what is a demanding role and customer facing. The team works hard and customer service is fantastic in a fast sales environment with demanding and sometimes intolerant customers. As I only eat cake at Christmas as I have to look after my outstanding physic I can recommend it to any future customers. You can also eat cake all year round if you wish. If you are looking for Unbuntu this tea room has it in buckets. Keep at it folks from the Christmas tipper. Steve SP Partridge DipSales, MA Sales Management

Music was a little on the loud side. The Earl Grey tea was good, not much milk in the jug for two people having pots of tea. The butter with the tea cake looked a bit like Margerine. The food was ok but just a little basic as mentioned in other reviews. An average experience which with a few tweaks could be made better.

Went here 26th January 2023, Just had a snack , But boy was it worth it...didn't want fancy coffee and thankfully they had filter coffee, My hubby had tea and a good cuppa it was too he said. I had the best piece of Homemade Coffee Cake I've ever had it was amazing. And hubby had a toasted teacake that was actually toasted ,As so many places don't even toast them but barely show them the grill 🤣. Really impressed with this cafe ...well done ladies.

Was welcomed inside, shown to a table, then nothing! Couple at the side of us gave their order to the young lad and another table cleared, still nothing for us. After 25 mins went to investigate what was happening, to be told they'd stopped serving! (Why seat us?) Someone reluctantly took our order and it was served quickly enough, but waitress apologised for the confusion then went on to add that they had actually stopped serving food, great way to make you feel welcome! Food was very basic for the price, didn't look particularly appealing but tasted good none the less. Will find alternative food premises next time

We came to Buxton to visit friends for the weekend. We had a piece of cake and tea with this establishment yesterday. They informed us at 3pm that the kitchen was closed and they were just serving cakes. We happily accepted this and placed our order. Cakes came but no tea. The waiter did correct this when he realised one of the main parts of our order was missing. We happily accept that mistakes happen. We then returned to this cafe again today as it is central and we just wanted a sandwich and tea. Unfortunately a mistake was made again with the order, one sandwich was not correct out of the 4 we ordered. By the time they had corrected my Mums simple cheese and tomato toastie, the other 3 in our party had finished our sandwiches and my Mum’s drink had gone cold. We did get an apology but this was all. I politely queried how they were going to compensate us for the long delay and mistake. My Mum had to wait an extra 15 minutes for her food and even when it came the actual tomatoes were not even warm. Another lady came to just apologise and made one of the most pathetic and utterly redicious claims I have ever heard in a food establishment. “I made a mistake but you have to understand in the current climate, we are very short staffed and it’s very hard for us all”. They had 4 staff and only 5 tables! I explained I was not satisfied and this was just unacceptable. The waitress then added “We won’t be giving you anything, she has her food now. Sorry but in the current climate it’s just how it is”. Utterly disgraceful service! Her manner was very rude and blaming covid for her inability to read an order and then her inability to talk to us in a reasonable manner when querying the mistake is quite frankly abysmal. When I paid the £35 bill for 2 pots of tea and 4 very mediocre sandwiches, one of which was brought 15 minutes later than the other 3, I simply said; “I was very disappointed by how you handled the situation earlier”. The waitress became very confrontational and rude. I re-itterated how rude she was being. “I’m not rude I’ve worked here for 10 years” was her response. Please don’t waste your time visiting here. This staff member needs customer service training urgently.

We called here for a cream tea. Sat outside because it was a lovely day. The Table was wobbling around all over the place almost spilling our tea, this is because the ground outside is not very flat. Anyway despite this we were enjoying our tea and scones, which were ok.Then a dog, that I think belonged to the cafe and was walking free outside the cafe, came up to a small concrete square block that was next to our table. The dog urinated down two sides of the block. Not really what you want on a nice sunny day while you are enjoying your food and drink. After a few moments, the smell of dog urine was so strong that we had to get up and leave without finishing.Shame really, it seemed a nice place, but our visit was pretty bad.

Just wanted a snack lunch whilst visiting friends. It was a fairly busy day, there were a few vacant tables still full of dirty pots. We sat down, chose from the menu then ordered at the counter. Eventually our dirty pots were removed. Another girl brought the drinks on a tray. We asked if the table could be wiped before she gave us our drinks. She disappeared and brought a dry disposable hand towel and gave the table a token gesture of a wipe, (no sanitizing spray in sight). With a still sticky table we got our drinks. One of the coffees was barely half a small tea cup and our pot of tea for two was more suited as a pot of tea for one. Toasted sandwiches were barely warm.

I had coffee and walnut cake, which was mediocre and the bottom wasn't burnt, but was very over cooked and dry. The thing that really put me off was the stench from the toilet downstairs. At first I thought someone had been in before me, but on closer inspection noticed a macerator at the back of the toilet. I assume from the smell that it was leaking and had been doing for some time. . In addition, most of the service was carried out by a young woman on her own, while an older women seemed to spend all her time on her mobile phone.

I went into this shop to buy an ice cream and cake to take away - Its been a while since I've had such a rude experience - the ice cream advertised wasn't available and the waitress was rude and dismissive - then when I requested a piece of cake to take away - through the middle of a conversation which was consistently interrupted by a colleague - trying to identify a customer whose food she had just left lying around - I was party to a conversation which went along the lines of - how much do we charge - oh 2 pounds - then turning to me - oh I'm going to charge you £2.50 - I was quite shocked and just wanted to get out of there. So beware - prices are flexible depending on who you are and don't expect and quantity of service - I wasn't offered a receipt either......

Lovely food, reasonably priced. Good children's portions and offers vegetarian dishes . Only one small toilet facility down steep stairs but clean

Stopped here for a cream tea and would give it a 10 out of 10. Delicious scone, proper clotted cream and offered a choice of jams. Tea served in china cups and with extra hot water. I will definitely be returning and would recommend to all

Admittedly we ordered the breakfast before seeing the menu, but asked about what items were on there and it sounded lovely.

A great spot to get a drink and something to eat. The staff were really friendly and created a great atmosphere. Their menu has a vast selection of delicious drinks and food. I managed to get my drink quickly and it was one of the best hot chocolates I have had in a while. This cafe is also dog friendly.

Excellent community pub with a surprisingly good selection of beers and bonus cafe.

Search lights, barbed wire and machine gun towers would look out of place here, what with the waffen-ss staff, ruthlessly enforcing outdated anti-cannabis ideology as if their very survival depended upon spoiling the vibe.

Family and friends Sunday lunch. Roasts were awful; very very dry beef (only meat option); frozen shop bought dry soggy roasties; lacking flavour watery gravy and not a lot of it; soggy deflated Yorkshire pudding. My mouth was so dry after chewing so hard on the beef. Best thing were the boiled carrot batons. Lasagne seemed shop bought/ processed sauces etc, and the 2 slices of frozen garlic bread dry and lacking flavour. The sting was that the lasagne was around £18, and the roast £16 - the portions were very small too. Could get better at Morrisons cafe sorry to say! Service was friendly, and the free pool and darts made up for the very disappointing meal. We’ve been going to The George for at least 10 years and it was very good 10 years ago; good value for large tasty meals (especially the blue cheese burger on a floury bap with curly fries and salad for under a tenner - i know prices have gone up for various reasons so it’s not the price that’s an issue if the food is decent and a good portion, but I felt well and truly ripped off). Please improve as we want to visit more as we’re local and love Hayfield and don’t want to see another pub close (sad to see The Royal go - Sportman down the road and Packhorse are great! As is Old Hall Inn in Chinley) due to lack happy returning customers. Good luck!
