Food was decent but not worth £8 for a sandwich , when i entered the building we felt very unwelcomed , the staff kept giving us dirty looks. The woman at the bar asked us to repeat our order at least 8 times. Not a single smile in the whole premises , the staff looked depressed.

Love Castleton, always like to eat here - food is lovely - unfortunately the room was a little tired and needed some attention in areas such as shower sealant and repairing bathroom lights as trying to shave was difficult in limited light - otherwise very good

Fantastic food and great service all topped off with a warm welcoming roaring fire. Great place to finish off with the family, after a walk around Castletonvillage, will be back soon.. Didn't see the rooms so couldn't comment, but if like the rest of the pub, I'm sure they'll be amazing too

Just popped in for a bite of lunch. The two bar staff were very welcoming. Nice selection of beers/ales on tap, and a good selection of alcohol-free bottled beers. Good selection of dishes on the menu. My wife and I each ordered one of the sausage and mash dishes. Got a choice of types of sausages, types of mashed spuds, and type of gravy. Food was delivered quite quickly and was absolutely delicious. Was a great pub to find and I would not hesitate to visit again next time we are back in the area.

Really love this place the staff are very pleasant and service and food very good. We ordered Sunday lunch which included yorkshie puddings. we all ordered paid for our meals at the bar. when our meals arrived none of us had yorkshire puddings when we complained we were told there was none left. We had no apologies no we will reduce your meal price or we will give you extra portion of something else. Very disappointed in having to pay for something that's not included without being toldv

Visited this lovely pub while visiting Castleton for the first time, it’s a very warm and welcoming pub with lots of charm. We were greeted by a friendly member of staff and advised we were welcome to sit where we wished, as we popped in for a drink. Great selection of Real ale which was great to see along with a good selection of larger and caffreys which was great to see. We had a pint of real ale and caffreys both tasted amazing, clearly this pub take care of their beer lines. We noticed they did food, smelled and looked amazing so much so we asked for a menu and ordered some pizza. Great choice of food depending on your tastes, pizza was home made and was very delicious and reasonably priced. Facilities were spotless and staff were much on top of cleaning also which was great to see even when busy. This pub is dog and child friendly, would definitely recommend this pub for food and drink and will visit again.

Decent pub and hotel. Staff were friendly and welcoming, breakfast was good quality and what I saw of the normal menu looked good as well. The stay was let down by a few minor snags in the room and the mattress was very poor quality. A sign says the room is due refurbishment and under that circumstance I'd happily return.

Popped in here to grab some food after our day out. As soon as you walk in, you’re met with how disorganised the staff are. There’s a sign as soon as you walk in saying to wait there to be seated but 2-3 meters in front there’s another “front desk” with “reception” written on top of it. And although the hostess saw us waiting by the sign, she didn’t approach us, almost as it felt out of principle, until the guy from behind the bar has seated us. We’ve then got told the menus will be brought over and to order at the bar. The menus never reached us, as the guy got to work back behind the bar and the hostess still refused to approach us. We’ve not booked a table but they did one of the last spare tables away for us. The food was good, service far from.

OMG Alex Polizzi is definitely needed here .... NOW !!!! Just back from our stay (25.3.2024) Booked for my husband's birthday pressie (along with 8 friends (4 couples). Extremely disappointed with our accommodation. STAFF LOVELY/ GOOD FOOD... very tasty. Plus....Saturday night singer /guitar entertainment bonus too .. HOWEVER The rooms OMG..... worst ever stayed in...... Our room "Revelin" was nothing like the photo advertised on The Ole Nags Head webside.... False advertising at its best.. This needs to be amended to tell the truth .... Photo of our room "Revelin" looks lovely on website.. 4 Poster Bed / Drapes.. until you actually walk into it.....suddenly you are faced with an extremely small room with a very very basic cream (wobbly) bedstead with lime wallpaper behind not to mention the damp patches on ceiling near door ... NOT the Grand Bedroom advertised. We double checked the website to see if we had been given the incorrect room - as what we had - was not (or so we thought) shown on Ole Nags Head's website. All 9 rooms have grand photos ours was not grand???? We clicked on all photo's to all the rooms to reveal more details.. We simply could not believe the photo revealed when we got to Revelin ...the shock picture now actually had a photo of the the very very basic cream wobbly bedstead.. NOT the 4 Poster as per advert. So disappointed. The bathroom was so tiny..if you are bigger than a size 12/ 14 you just won't fit in the shower. The bathroom door had No Lock or even a catch to shut the door....it just doesn't shut. The floor has not been cleaned properly (for sometime)... behind toilet dust/hairs also in corners just outside shower. Carpets not hoovered well either throughout bedroom/hotel. Also......The noise is horrendous in this room as next to the upstairs restaurant and as at the top of the stairs just above bar too... we went to bed late but very noisy into early a.m. " Revilin" has metal frame wet moulding windows out to the front/road.... just above the entrance to hotel so lots of noice from smokers chatting outside which is fair enough but please note it is an extremely noisy room. (We did ask to be moved but fully booked). We never ever complain normally........but this simply has to be pointed out to others looking to book. Our friends had similar problems in their rooms portable heater in room as sooooooo cold. Their bed was also substituted for metal frame bed not as advertised 4 Poster. They had No complimentary shampoo/shower gel water ect. ( others all had these) House keeping is Very slap dash/non existent. Other friends had the 2 single bedroom.... Thick dust on the ornate wooden pointed headboards you could write your name in it. The owner we understand is aware but not interested which must make the lovely staff extremely frustrated and disheartened at the constant unsatisfactory customers and constant apologies they have to keep making. Clearly understaffed too. Such a shame..... please listen to your staff ...fgs....

We have been regular visitors to Hargreaves prior to Covid, it's our favourite eatery in Buxton and always look forward to our visit. We visited yesterday and what a disappointment. What was once an " Edwardian " tea room , now looks more like a works canteen. My favourite colour is green, but the plain painted walls in a drab olive colour just doesn't work especially with no prints to break it up. Tableclothes seem to have disappeared and the lighting looks awful. Oh and they have fallen into the trap of PC "Unisex" loos. Having said all that, the food was very good and the staff/service efficient and friendly. Sorry, these, I know, are difficult times and it is all a matter of personal taste, just not to ours. I wish them well but we will now have to seek out pasture new.

We were after a hot drink and something quick to eat on a stop in Glossop and I was certain we could find somewhere that wasn't the chain coffee shop when I saw this place. Really cute inside, lovely welcome, and lovely food. There are tons of veggie and vegan options. We just had breakfast but it was so nice! I'll be back!
