Lovely old style pub, with a great selection of beers, the staff were all friendly. The story of how the community saved the pub from what would almost certainly have been extinction is so refreshing

Being fairly local, we have tried this pub on several occasions since it was bought out by the community. Sadly we have been disappointed on each occasion. Been in today as part of a group and having heard there was a new chef, we hoped for better fare. Fish & chips OK, chicken and chorizo, poor. Very salty, portion meagre and not sure what happened to the aioli. Mentioned when paid, still charged full amount. Learned our lesson. Won't be going again.

We visited for Father’s Day Sunday lunch. Everyone was friendly and welcoming. There was a great range of cask and other beers on offer. The Sunday lunch menu was very good. We had beef, chicken and the vegetarian option. All were absolutely top class with a lovely range of vegetables, Yorkshire pudding etc. All preparation was top class. Pudding was equally excellent. Service was swift and the servers were really good humoured. There was a range of games for children and adults on hand. The place itself is community owned and they should be proud of what they have created. We really couldn’t find anything wrong, just lots to commend. Top class!

Friendly staff, good selection of real ale, great service. Lovely homely ambience and excellent range of very good quality, fabulous food. Huge portions and outstanding value for money. I had the absolutely incredible miso brisket and probably won’t need to eat again for a couple of days, (others in the party had similarly great experiences of huge fish and chips, vegan burger and homity pie) I would happily make other friends make the trip to meet here.

Have visited this place for Sunday lunch before and have always managed to get a table without booking. However today was different and noticed every table was reserved. I have no problem with this, call it unlucky if you like. What I found unacceptable was the unfriendly and couldn't care less attitude of the young girl working there. Called in today with a friend. We were out on a walk. We fancied a pint of beer and something to eat. Wow the food was great I had the Ocean pie which was stuffed full of fish. Salmon , prawns, smoked haddock? Coley. It was delicious. My pal had The dipped steak sandwich with horseradish. He was equally impressed. His comment was that this has been cooked by a chef not your regular pub food! I would agree. We were met with a friendly smile, the dog was welcome, the beer was local (Stancil brewery) and well kept. We could have stayed all afternoon. The Anglers is a community pub and deserves to do well. No walk-ins allowed, incredibly rude and dismissing stuff (including on google reviews!). My partner and I wanted some lunch (2pm) after a long hike (this being the only open food place in Bamford). We walked-in, sat down at a small table that was set with placemats and did not have a reserved sign on it. Before ordering we let the staff know that we tried to book but we realised we did so with little notice and did not get a reply, but it was fine as we found a free/empty table anyways. Staff proceeded to tell us there were no free tables and blamed us for moving seats and reserved signs, which was bewildering to us. All just to come to the conclusion that they ran out of kitchen capacity despite having empty tables in the pub due to an event. Which would have been understable if told so nicely from the beginning instead of accusing us of stuff we didn't do. When we posted this on google reviews we got accused of being rude. But the only rude handling was done by bar stuff. So fellow hikers and locals be aware that they don't take walk-ins and staff is very rude in person and lying online. We ended up going to Yorkshire Bridge inn instead (25 min walk) which was much lovelier and more welcoming with great food. Would choose that instead every time.

Well we were not disappointed at all! A table of 5 we had a mixture of mains (and starters plus side as a main) and a mixture of meat, fish and veggie. It was all delicious. Beer and wine choice were good and desert (as long as you save space) was also good. Fairly priced (unlikely to get as good food for the price in Sheffield!) And good portions (come hungry!). Holy cow, I just ate the best roast dinner that I've ever had. The Anglers achieved something I didn't think possible at a pub Sunday lunch - actually medium rare roast beef. And the assortment of sides was not only extensive (think root veg, buttered greens, stuffing, mash, pigs in blanket, roasties and a Yorkshire pudding) but outrageously tasty. The mash potatoes had some sort of magic in it to make it taste like the nectar of the gods. The pub is community owned and it really had a sense of being a bustling hub. Plus they very tolerant of an over excited 4yo. I cannot recommend a visit enough, but it was all booked out when we arrived so best to book ahead. I can't wait to try the rest of the menu.

Food service was very slow (although the place was not busy) and two of our meals were tepid when they arrived, as if they had been left standing on the side. Half the interior acts as a café as well. Some nice indoor spaces in the surprisingly large establishment. Would have liked to stay longer. Not a big menu, but they have some basic pub grub choices and a few slightly more interesting starters like hallumi in honey. The traditional beef roast was just one slice, but it was very thick and tasty so actually a nice change from the usual thin slices. The Yorkshire pudding was a jumbo one with not enough gravy, so very dry. Thick cut chips are done very well, seem to be triple cooked and very crispy Would be idea if they served it with gravy plus an additional gravy boat to pour on yourself

Walked around bamford edge, stopped here for breakfast, which was nice, came back later that day for lunch and wow, was we let down! Ordered a ‘grilled cheese’ sandwich, was told that they’ve ran out out chips due to supply issues, multiple issues with lack of food, no coronation chicken, no chips, ran out of white bread. Was told we would get crisps with our sandwhichs instead of chips, when they came, we got no crisps, despite asking again, still no crisps. The ‘grilled cheese’ was quite possibly the worst sandwhich I’ve ever seen in my life, the thinnest piece of cheese on hardly toasted white bread, friend wasn’t told they had ran out white bread and was given brown despite his dislike. I wish I took a photo of the sandwhich as it deserves a place in the culinary horror of fame!! How do you mess up a cheese sandwhich 😂😂😂 embarrassment! Despite this, the young girl behind the bar, was fantastic, good sense of humour and apologised for our shocking food. If you go here, DO NOT EXPECT MUCH, or at all.

We were looking for a place to eat near Bamford's Edge and the other places we tried had a very long wait for the food (close to an hour). Thus, we were looking for a place where that wouldn't be the case. Thankfully, we stumbled upon the Anglers Rest. This is a comfy and welcoming place with great food! It's the kind of food that makes you feel good (and I'm not saying this just because we were hungry). Highly recommended. We had Beef and Chicken Roast, Fish and Chips & the Chicken Burger (which was awesome).
