This is another gem of a pub in New Mills. It has old world character indoors, serves nicely kept Robinson ales and combines TV inside for sports, a pool table and some tables outside just a short walk from Albion Road or the river in the Torrs riverside Park.

A nice little pub just outside the Torrs. Set back and quiet enough for a few beers in their beer garden at the back. There is parking as well. Service was good and they had a fine selection of ales on. They also had a pool table, which I played and lost at...twice.

Great friendly local pub, a very warm welcome, nice regulars. The landlady knows how to keep beer very well, never a bad pint in this place. They have also started doing woodfired pizza on their outside pizza oven at weekends. Thursday and Saturdays I think...may be worth giving them a call to double check which days they are serving pizza on. We had choziro and hot honey sauce which was to die for. We'll be back!!

We don't live anywhere near but fancied a drive so randomly picked out this place because it has a pool table, way better than we expected! Felt a little intimidating when we first turned up but staff and customers were incredibly friendly, pool table was good but the walls cut us short sometimes but honestly worth the 45 min drive! Would definitely go back for the chilled atmosphere 😁

One of the few Robinson's houses remaining now in New Mills. Hidden away in the back streets of Newtown. This house is handy for the Torrs, and its position high above them offers a unique aspect of the town. Small pub with bar to your right as you enter, normally three Robinson's cask ales available. A lounge is in front of the bar, while to the side is a pool table and vault room. Small outside area exists too. All very neat, with friendly welcome. Recommended.

The rock tavern was nothing short or sensational. Good beer, dog friendly and a goddess of a bar tender! The landlady is as nice as they come and manages the pub so well that she would be right at home running a FTSE100 company. A quiet night with friends at the pool table was transformed by the charisma of Daisy the bartender and the anecdotes of the locals. A “battery” of great stories and some of the tastiest fireballs we’ve ever encountered turned our night from tepid to inferno and is now widely recognised by experts as one of the greatest nights of all time. If you’re looking for a pub that will change the whole way you think about life and death, like dogs or fancy a game of pool this is the place for you. Warning: you way want to leave you wife/husband/children/career for the bartender and it a appears a few of the locals have tried in vain to do so.

My husband and I had arranged to meet here with a long-lost cousin of his who we had traced and contacted through an ancestry website. The pub is tucked away, and you wouldn’t just happen to find it.. but it’s well worth finding! We’d never been to the Rock Tavern before, but on entering we were greeted by the bar staff like old friends!Such a warm and friendly welcome to total strangers... it was lovely and says a lot about the landlord and his staff..The interior was well furnished, bright and pleasant, and the Robinsons’ bitter, was, as my husband testified to me later, extremely well kept... a bright clear golden pint and “Robbies” at its best. This is a very well run pub, at the heart of the New Mills Community, and whenever we are in the area again, we will certainly call in.Note for the ladies.... the loos are immaculate and spotlessly clean with nice liquid soap and hand cream!

Food was decent but not worth £8 for a sandwich , when i entered the building we felt very unwelcomed , the staff kept giving us dirty looks. The woman at the bar asked us to repeat our order at least 8 times. Not a single smile in the whole premises , the staff looked depressed.

We have been regular visitors to Hargreaves prior to Covid, it's our favourite eatery in Buxton and always look forward to our visit. We visited yesterday and what a disappointment. What was once an " Edwardian " tea room , now looks more like a works canteen. My favourite colour is green, but the plain painted walls in a drab olive colour just doesn't work especially with no prints to break it up. Tableclothes seem to have disappeared and the lighting looks awful. Oh and they have fallen into the trap of PC "Unisex" loos. Having said all that, the food was very good and the staff/service efficient and friendly. Sorry, these, I know, are difficult times and it is all a matter of personal taste, just not to ours. I wish them well but we will now have to seek out pasture new.
