The best restaurants serving British food in Wales

We eat here regularly and not once have we had bad customer service. Today we were served by Chris, friendly helpful and efficient. We all had diff foods off the saver menu and thoroughly enjoyed it. Plenty of tables to choose from and no need to book. Lots of parking spaces. Free water and ice available if you don't want to buy a drink. They accept blue light card discount but not on the saver menu.

I had fish and chips here and it was absolutely lovely,at a very good price,with a drink as well

Great location and dog friendly , but very disappointed with our meal . been there before and was good but last time not so. wife was given what looked like a souse that was like someone else had and sent back what they hadent used. is was supposed to have glassed carrots but just one boiled and cut in half . chips werent up to much , staf seemed overworked.

Stunning location excellent little pub. Makes me laugh reading some of these reviews complaining about having to wait an hour for food mid August! Busiest time of the year so give the staff a break!!! Not returning some of the comments here. Well Im sure you won’t be missed!!

Booked for a meal with family today and staff were so helpful and friendly going over and above our expectations. The food was brought out very quickly and each meal was very tasty. Looking forward to a return visit very soon.

Had a very pleasant afternoon in the sandpiper recently. Took the kids into play and a lovely lady called Jane served us. A very pleasant lady and was very attentive and helpful. Food was ok .. the place does need a serious revamp though. Stuck in the 90's😀..

Came in to a pretty quiet restaurant, the hostess came over and asked if we’d booked, we hadn’t she huffed and showed us to an empty table. From there we were ignored for 20minutes while multiple waiting staff and the hostess stood round chatting and looking at tables that needed clearing, no one came over to even acknowledge us even though plenty of them walked past us. Have dined here many times before without issues, will not be back. We walked out and as we did the hostess was stood at a booth chatting away with three others no acknowledgement to our departing

Primero, la comida, cuando finalmente la obtuvimos, valió la pena esperar. Pero tomó un tiempo; habíamos reservado para 19. 30 , y llegó a los 19 . 15 . Pedimos bebidas en el bar y nos ofrecieron la opción de subir a sentarnos a nuestra mesa o esperar hasta que nos llamaran. El bar de abajo era cálido y bastante ocupado con un buen fuego en la estufa, así que optamos por este último ya que era una noche fría. Nos sentamos junto al fuego hasta las 19. 55 , cuando decidimos preguntar si nuestra mesa estaba lista. Nos dijeron que lo era, y así subimos al restaurante. Los únicos otros clientes eran una gran fiesta familiar celebrando un cumpleaños número 80. Esperábamos; y esperábamos a que se cumpliera nuestra orden. Tres empleados estaban esperando, pero todos estaban sirviendo a la fiesta principal; después de unos 20 minutos ya habíamos tenido suficiente de esperar (esto es 45 minutos después de nuestra hora de reserva) y mi esposa salió a ver si otro restaurante cercano tenía una mesa de repuesto, ya que sentimos que simplemente estábamos siendo ignorados. Justo cuando regresó, uno de los empleados finalmente vino a tomar nuestro pedido; señalé el retraso y me dijeron que dos miembros del personal habían llamado enfermos. Para ellos, una vez que habíamos pedido no tuvimos que esperar demasiado, la comida era buena, abundante y bien presentado. Estaríamos encantados de volver a ir, pero sería la última vez si tuviéramos una molestia similar; lo que se podría haber evitado si se nos hubiera mantenido mejor informados.

We are staying in the area and have just had the steak and Guinness pie here at The White Lion Hotel. It is the best steak pie we have found in the area....proper homemade pie, rammed full of tender meat with not a piece of fat or gristle in sight! We are pie eating experts and this has gone to the top of our list! Kudos to the chef 👨‍🍳 👏 Bloomin' scrummy! Thank you 😊

Don’t be put off by the smell of cat spray on the way in!!! I was a bit dubious but the food was good. It looked average when it came out, everything in pots, chips, peas, rice (why?) but good portions. It looked deep fried and a bit over cooked but everyone agreed it all tasted good. Very friendly to dogs and a resident dog and at least a couple of cats. I think the land lady / manager could look stern, but I think she was just checking everything was ok and when I chatted to her she warmed up and was friendly. We will be back!

We called here on way back from abergavenny, ordering teas and cake, The tea was not very hot, and as for the sponge was not fresh at all. The veranda was open but we chose to sit inside. This was during lunch time and there were a number of vacant tables.

The manager was extremely abrupt and rude , and made us feel very uncomfortable, she gave the Impresion she didn't want to serve us. The food took ages to arrive and when we asked her the reason for the delay, she had the attitude that we were complaining instead of being helpful. When the food arrived it was very dry and .must have been sitting around to long. Not an experience we will repeat.

The purpose of our visit doesn't fit the above. We were resident guests. We stayed here for three nights in March 2025. The weather was fabulous although the wind was a little cold. We really enjoyed ourselves in what I would describe as a restaurant with rooms, not a pub. To start with, I am always impressed when our hosts bother to introduce themselves to their guests, in person, in the evening. It shows professionalism and quality care. The room was very comfortable, not the largest we have encountered but the age and character of the building would dictate room size. The owners have only been there for two years, so there is some smartening up to be done, but our room and shower room were clean and the bed comfortable. The public areas were pleasant and the outdoor area great, but we did have the weather! Service was very attentive and friendly, the food imaginative and wines were good, with the local produce much appreciated. It was nice to be in a restaurant rather than a pub, (with endless chips with everything). Breakfast was great, dinner had a good menu with a great range of different and enjoyable dishes, served well. Well done! The location is very well situated, being by the road through the village we expected traffic, but it wasn’t intrusive. A short walk along main street lies the harbour a very gentle short walk, reaching the cafe on the harbour side which was very pleasant with great views across the water in the sunshine. Highly recommended.
