JD Wetherspoons in Newport

Polite staff, quick service great value and good menu, what else can you ask for. Right in the town centre great when shopping.

The pub was packed solid, but the service was good, and food was delivered in a timely fashion, and was good, there was a bit of a cock up with the order when it was delivered but the waitress refunded the items quickly and efficiently.

Good service quick and efficient, good prices and good quality, well worth a visit whilst shopping in town. Unlimited tea and coffees always welcome.

A typical wetherspoons, where you have to queue for a while to get served, and when you do your greeted by some miserable person, who looks like they don't really want to serve you or be there, it must be part of the job interview process, because everyone you go into there all the same, manners and politeness cost absolutely nothing, but hey rant over,.place was busy, had a funny and uncomfortable vibe about it, we stayed for a couple and left, dont think we will be rushing back in a hurry .

Writing on behalf of family member who doesn’t have access to tripadvisor. She visits every week and comments on how attentive the staff are making sure she is ok. She is always impressed with the food and the service, also the politeness of the doormen. Thank you for brightening up her day!

I was happy with visiting the venue and was with all friends but the bar was very sticky which resulted in the spillage of my drinks. I’ve worked behind a bar which has included taking drinks from a bar to deliver to a table, I was picking my drinks up from the STICKY bar and people everywhere and so my drinks spilt with no help even offered, I think it’s quick disgusting how little to no customer service was offered and the whole event was placed on me. The bar tender was nothing but patronising when I asked if I could have a refund due to my drinks spilling on the incredibly sticky bar. The poor customer service was unnecessary. Feel unwelcome here.

Stayed in newport on business overnight in the travellodge so this was very handy been opposite, no great shacks but good valve beer and standard food but when your paying a low price u csnt complain, it suited its purpose a quick meal at the end of a long day, would definitely use again

Came for drinks with friends and ordered a round of shots, would never ever order sambuca or mention it because it really does not agree with me. Barmaid with black short hair and a hair band poured shots of sambuca then blamed me even though I repeated my order 3 times. She told me “tough” and “there’s a manager upstairs go deal with it” the manager was lovely but when working in hospitality you have to have a level of kindness which this barmaid did not have. Attitude levels 100 and I would never in a million years hire her. Think she needs to look for a new line of employment 🙂

I will say as Spoons outlets go this is a good one, not the normal type of place you would see as a Spoons pub but a nice one, well worth dropping by I will say.

The Queens Hotel used to be the best JD Wetherspoon pub in Newport, now it is downright awful!! Only ever seems to be 1 person tending the bar and one person serving meals. On this particular visit we were told it was a 15 minute wait for food. This was fine, usual for Wetherspoons not a problem with this. Our meals arrived nearly AN HOUR later, before which the table next to us got served first, despite coming in and ordering quite a long time afterwards. My father enquired as to why they had been served before us to which the very flustered waitress replied "I have no control over this I have lots of meals waiting to come out". Some kind of explanation would have been nice as to why our meals were taking so long. With being in close proximity to the train station too you can't really go in here for a quick bite to eat beforw catching your train - the train will leave before you've even been served your meal!! Food was of normal standard so no complaints there, but the service here lately is shocking.

Being directly opposite the Travelodge in the centre of Newport, plus being late, I popped in to this Weatherspoons for a pint and evening meal but was hugely disappointed. Comments being: Service - Bar staff friendly but more interested in themselves than their customers. Not bothered about people waiting to be served, more interested in having a cigarette break! Decor - Old and tired so could do with a facelift. This wasn’t helped by the majority of the tables having the remnants of previous meals on them (dirty plates, food debris etc) so difficult to get a table so you can order food. Cleanliness - General impression not favourable as in line with the above there just didn’t seem to be any interest taken in general cleanliness. Place smelt stale. Food - A fan of JD’s food I was disappointed. Ordering my standard burger meal (including drink) it arrived in a relatively short time but this was due to the fact that the food had been pre-prepared and then allowed to sit for a considerable period. Hence the burger was dry, the chips not warm enough and overall well below par. JD’s need to take action to bring this place up to their normal standard as unfortunately it is letting the chain down. My title was going to be “Wipe Your Feet On The Way Out” - visit and you will see why.

We called in and got our table number, then went to the bar, there was nobody service i waited a while then called out, no answer after 5 minutes i called through the doorway somebody called back (be with you soon) another 3 minutes then 2 staff came out carrying plates, after they had delivered the plates they came to serve. This was really poor service one should have been serving whilst one delivered.

Not the best of breakfasts here, we had to return as cold, the coffee isn't great either, the replacement was ok

26/02 - Have been before. Previously good. This was a disaster. Both coffee machines allowed to need attention. Seemed a lack of staff. Restaurant reasonably busy . Meals brought after 20 minute wait. My paninis overcooked and no sign of any cheese -usual Wetherspoon problem....
