We went for a meal with friends who had eaten here several times previously and rated it highly. The menu is quite small and no vegetarian options shown, although when asked there were two options available, veggie curry and cauliflower steak unfortunately neither of which appealed to me personally. I opted for the potato skins starter as a mains instead which was quite tasty but nothing I could wholeheartedly recommend. My meat eating companions chose off the chalkboard menu but were all left feeling slightly underwhelmed, cassoulet, gammon and chicken, none of which they raved about, in fact they were disappointed too as it wasn’t up to previous standards. The concept behind the pub was apparently to recapture the original Victorian feel but it just looked as if it badly needed updating. Staff were very helpful and friendly but without great food I couldn’t rate it any higher.
A48 Old St Mellons Road The Layby on the A48 just past Berryhill Farm - Coedkernew Newport, Wales
Tucked away just a couple of minutes’ walk from the centre of Newport is an oasis of calm, a peaceful art gallery space with gorgeous home-cooked food.
Popped in with my son to get some pictures framed (yes, it’s a great place to get those prints you’ve kept for years finally framed by professionals). We opted for the lovely vintage cheddar quiche and the fabulous pea and mint soup with cheesy scone.
The staff, who are artists and framers themselves are as warm and friendly to newcomers as they are to the regulars who pop by too.
Highly recommend the experience.
Ordered an afternoon high tea and a savoury yesterday, the food was lovely plenty of filling in the sandwiches, I phoned to say something was missing from the high tea and in no time it was reckifed , but not just one item they sent more. First class service as always, have ordered Sunday roast dinners for tomorrow which in sure will be excellent thanks royal mail
Absolutely stunning pizzas last night! We had 3 different ones to try and all of them were amazing. Cooked perfectly and so flavourful. If you haven't had the Spoilt Pig yet, go there, today! 😉 Also had The Hulk and a Dirty Pineapple.
The guys are really lovely. Give them a ring, place your order and it'll be ready when you get there. You can also just pop by.
Highly recommend!
First visit today to Lily’s hideaway and it did not disappoint. We had the savoury and sweet afternoon tea which was amazing and very generous. The staff were fabulous, very welcoming and attentive. The garden area was lovely and there was plenty of shade. Would definitely recommend
Been in multiple times since lock down after previously visiting the Caerleon store. The staff are so lovely and helpful. The selections of fillings for your wrap / sandwich / salad is amazing too. Super helpful with my dietary requirements. The range of salad fillings is amazing too, including couscous, sun-dried tomatoes and olives. The portion sizes are incredible. I'd highly recommend the ham salad, Falafel and hummus or the onion bhaji and mango chutney. The brownies on offer are great too, tried to vegan one in Caerleon which is great hopefully in the future more dairy free options are added. Would eat lunch here everyday if I could
After a long night out, I decided to have a curry and as this is a new place thought I’d give it a try. It is the most authentic curry I have tried and the value and convenience just shows how great this place is 10/10 👌💥😋
