Really lovely pub with a good choice of food and drink. Level up your lunch deal is very worth the money! Danni, Abbey and the team are lovely and always make us feel welcome.

Myself and 2 friends had lunch here today(Thursday 29th).We ordered from the senior menu. Excellent value and all 3 courses were very tasty. Staff were warm and welcoming. Service with a smile. Will definitely be returning. Special thanks to Abby.

A fabulous, dog friendly pub just off the M4 which is ideal to meet up with family. Had the 2 for £14.99 meals which were lovely. Beers were great. My tipple was Citra. Service was fast and friendly. Our server was Abbey who was friendly, helpful and efficient. A very enjoyable afternoon, thank you from me and my family.

Prices are really good. I had fish and chips and it was ok. The service was good and quite quick. There is parking around the side/back but this can fill up.

Cheap and cheerful. Great selection of drinks. Mistaken made with my order, ordered 2 cheese and bacon burgers and blue cheese burgers were brought instead, this was changed and just a wait then for the next order. Asked if Sunday lunch was still served in the evening, was told it was, my Yorkshire puddings, roast potatoes and stuffing were not edible, wasn't able to cut or pick up with a fork they were so hard, after the mix up at the start of the meal didn't bothered to complain. Won't be back in a hurry.

We had a fun evening at the Sunday pub quiz and a good meal (steak and ale pie, mac and cheese and gammon) however I can’t not comment on the absolutely disgusting filthy state of the ladies toilets. They didn’t look like they had been cleaned in years. No toilet paper and just foul is the only word to describe them.

Myself and my wife called in for lunch. Great menu and prices, the food came quickly, and the lady who served us was polite and friendly. Thank you - we'll be back

We made an impromptu visit here this evening with our family. We decided that we would have a few drinks and some food whilst the children played in the park. We ordered food on the app and it took 1hr 45 mins to arrive! When we chased up we were told they were unstaffed, not our problem, if that was really an issue why take more orders? When our food finally arrived I asked the manager whether there was another three meals coming, he struggled his shoulder and replied ‘I dunno’, extremely unhelpful And a disgusting attitude! The food was lukewarm at best! I believe if it was served at the correct temperature it would have been a decent pub meal. There was also a dog off the lead in the pub garden. I’m told that this is the landlords dog, whilst the dog was well behaved I do believe that is highly unacceptable, not all children and adults are ok with dogs and some are very frightened!

Nice food, flithly place, understaffed. App not working to order food so had to queue. The toilets were thw worst ive seen in a long time.

Welcoming, friendly staff. Good, hot, freshly-cooked food, served quickly. The 2 meals for £14.99 (or thereabouts), available Mon - Sat, is great value for money.

I must admit, my heart sank when I sat down at our table and read these reviews, many unfortunately poor. I am pleased to say my experience was good. The Sunday lunch was hot, properly cooked and reflected the price charged. The children’s meal, my elderly mother had was very reasonable and more than enough to eat for an older person. The staff were attentive, checking everything was ok. The only improvement I would recommend is that the vegetarian tart pastry was a little thick and difficult to cut through, but was very tasty. For normal sized portions, which are hard to find these days, the meals were very nice and reminiscent of home cooking.

Food was meh For the price we paid I'd have liked to have more appropriate serving (sounded a lot bigger on the menu)and it actually to be an edible temperature besides luke warm/cold. Best part was the roast potatoes on the Sunday dinner Despite this the kids enjoyed the garden and the seating area. Needs some much needed improvements. Would never recommend.. Despite emailing as requested No communication back. . Disappointed

Definitely worth going here when it’s sunny! Lovely garden area for drinks & they do a great deal for 3 small plates! Thoroughly enjoyed myself with my friends, will definitely come back in the future! Great service even though it was so busy! There’s a play area for kids & you can bring your dogs too! 🐾

We had food and drinks with our friends (kids were here to) and the staff were so welcoming, very helpful and friendly. The service was great and the atmosphere was great.

Tried to get a drink this evening, no one served us, maybe because we were the oldest in there?! Definitely not returning, terrible atmosphere, it’s sad as used to be a good place to visit.

We use Tredegar Arms as our local for lunch and evening meals. Love the food, the Steak & Ale pie is the best around. Good service and good range of beers. Cannot fault it.

Booked this for Mother’s Day. As we entered the outdoor area a dog was running loose around the place with no owner in sight. We were shown to our table which was bar stool type bench and a high table which we couldn’t get to as it was to close to the table next it.Very uncomfortable especially when you can’t touch the floor with your feet and back started to ache. We had a baby high chair which was so low compared to our table the baby couldn’t see us and we couldn’t see the baby. Our food was Luke warm and the portion size was tiny especially considering we paired extra for 2 type of meats. There was around 6 dogs in the restaurant, a few of these were big dogs and once the one starting barking they all started. The staff we smoothing the dogs then serving our food. Was left very disappointed on Mother’s Day and wouldn’t recommend or return.

First time being here, on a cold wintery afternoon! But we sat outside because the sun was out a few hours earlier and we got over excited! Garden is massive and really nice, I was viewing it through "summer eyes" and I imagine it be lovely. The rugby was on England vs Wales (and I'm English woops!) And it wasn't too packed which was nice to see actually, just enough that the atmosphere was good. Really great drinks offers, we got suitably tipsy and didn't become broke! Maybe because it was slightly busy, but the ordering from the app took a very long time, waiting for 25 min for one of our drinks, and on the way to the loo, I saw our drinks on the side so they were ready, just waiting. Anyway it was fine, when I got back and they'd been delivered to the table. I wasn't keen on the long island iced tea (usually my favourite) but very aware this is a pub not a coctail bar! Ended up on rum and coke - very reasonably priced :) Can't comment on food as I didn't eat here. I look forward to coming back in the summer!

Used to be a go to spot for us, now somewhere definitely to avoid. 15/16 year olds being served, kids running around at 9/10pm inside, outside tables plagued with cigarette butts and empty glasses. Really really sad, seems to just cater to oldies wanting a Sunday lunch

Went there this evening as a birthday meal for my wife. A really nice place. Friendly helpful staff, great atmosphere and good food. Nice beer as well. In addition it is a dog friendly place too so our Labrador didn't have to stay home. We will definitely be going there again.

*Honest reviews are carried out on a mystery shopper basis, always unannounced at relatively quiet times I have no affiliation with the establishments I visit and are all non biased, completely honest reviews* Service with a smile, can't fault the staff friendly and helpful Sorry guy's but the food was unacceptable Order - Big Breakfast Cup of Tea - served with dirty cup had to pick dirt out before pouring tea in Black pudding - really bad, obviously cheap pre sliced portions but so old and unfresh it was visible, soggy discoloured smelt bad, a bit alarming for this type of food / meat Sausages - not fresh seemed like not cooked on the day but heated up Bacon - disgusting stringy fatty burnt Hash browns - definitely not fresh, no crisp at all, soggy and seemed warmed up Beans - looked like they were a few days old, cold Mushrooms - not fresh enough nowhere near Grilled tomato - again not fresh enough and hardly grilled I genuinely felt if I ate the food it would make me ill The problem here is obviously freshness Food is obviously not being stored / refrigerated properly it was obvious that some or most of the ingredients had been sitting around far too long in the kitchen before they got to the plate, it's also obvious that some of the food is being reheated instead of being freshly cooked and so that obviously brings into question the age of the food being used Understandably Green King aren't providing the best quality food to begin with but not serving the food fresh to the plate comes down to the staff I really hope you can take this review onboard and improve, I really am sorry to have to write such a review and I mean no malice at all, I really was impressed with the young girl who served me and I did pick up a good relaxed atmosphere from the rest of the staff and pub in general. I'm sure this is a great place for drink but the food is obviously way off

Appalling customer service. Got charged £3.35 for a lime and soda! When I complained, the ‘manager’ claimed that she’d put an extra dash in (although this wasn’t measured and when it was poured originally it was extremely weak’). Her attitude was rude. She reluctantly gave me £1 back although I had to argue this. Our group will not be going back anytime soon! They all also complained about the cleanliness of the toilets saying that they were filthy.

First Christmas lunch of the year at Tredegar Arms Bassaleg! Absolutely amazing experience, the food was delicious and the staff, as usual, were friendly and welcoming….so much so, we’ve booked again for next week!!

Went here for my sons birthday six adults. Staff were very friendly and attentive throughout even though the pub was really busy. Drinks took a while we used the app but the bar was just as busy. Staff apologised for the wait which we were fine with we could see how busy it was. Food arrived just after lovely and hot everyone enjoyed their meal. Lovely atmosphere felt welcome and included which seems to be quite rare these days. We have been a few times now and received the same service which is why we came back.

Recently popped in just for drinks but saw the festive favourites menu which included cauliflower cheese croquettes and turkey dirty roastties. Both were delicious and a little different. Especially the cranberry and spicy sauce mix. Staff were very friendly and attentive. The decorations were tasteful and festive. Will be back

Great place for a quick chill out and a bite to eat

We celebrated my son’s 18th birthday here on 14th November and we can’t talk highly about what a great experience we had. We booked an area of the pub for friends and family and were able to decorate as we wanted. The buffet was incredible; very well presented and delicious. All of our guests commented on the very high standard of food. It was a great night and as usual the staff were amazing!

I enjoyed the food good portions it gets busy mostly later in the day but tge tables can be used until reserve time parking is chalenging so go early worth a visit for sure

So the food was cold, did not complain sadly but I won’t be going again BUT it was not the food that was the problem. I have never seen such disgusting toilets It’s thick grim everywhere This is a food place !! The toilets made me feel sick

Had a few drinks and a meal. Only negative I can put is that I was sat in the front bar and was served a few times but them was told to go to the main bar. When I was walking back with my drinks, I told someone who was waiting at the front bar that you have to go to the main bar, she said I'll get someone to serve me here because the manager fancies me. Low and behold that was the case and she got served, very unprofessional.

I ordered a cheese and bacon burger only to find a huge hair inside the bun. To be clear this was not one of my own as it was a different colour to my hair..I took the food back to who I think was the manager asking for my money back. He was very rude and confrontational saying that “our chef doesn’t even have long hair” and then asked if I wanted more food instead, which I refused as I wanted a refund. In the end he did give me my money back but I will not be visiting again.

The food was below average with a main and a desert being sent back. The queue to the bar was also ridiculously long, which was a struggle with 3 children. Staff were happy and assisted with the issues and were helpful where they possibly could be.

I used to be a regular at this pub, but sadly, the recent change in management with Caitlin at the helm has left me feeling quite disappointed. The decline in both the atmosphere for customers and the staff's morale is evident. When I first started coming here, it was a warm and welcoming place. The staff was friendly, and there was a sense of camaraderie among both patrons and employees. However, since Caitlin took over, that sense of hospitality has faded. The once-friendly staff now seems disengaged and uninterested in providing good service. It's clear that there's a lack of leadership and motivation among the employees. The atmosphere inside the pub has also taken a hit. It used to be lively and vibrant, with a great selection of music and entertainment. Now, it feels dull and uninspired. The quality of the food and drinks has noticeably declined, and the prices have gone up. It's a shame to see a once-thriving pub lose its charm. In summary, Caitlin's tenure as the new manager has been detrimental to this pub. The decline in both the customer experience and staff morale is undeniable. It's a stark reminder that sometimes change isn't always for the better. It’s a real shame after watching Kelvin pour blood, sweat and tears into this place and watching it all fall apart. I hope that things turn around and staff have the right management to motivate them and enjoy the great environment this great pub creates whilst working.

I had been going to the Pub for some time, and the staff had always been friendly and helpful. Recently, they hired Calvin, and he was one of the best managers I've ever encountered. He was always quick and efficient, knowledgeable and friendly. He was a real asset to the establishment. Unfortunately, the Pub recently hired a new manager in Caitlin, and I am sad to report that the experience has been drastically different since her arrival. She does not appear to be as focused on customer service as the old manager, and I find her to be quite unfriendly and disinterested in helping out customers. Calvin is still trying his best, but I find the whole experience to be very off-putting and unpleasant, so I have not been back in some time. It really is a shame, because Calvin really did a great job!

Nice place, nice range of drinks, clean pub, but the only thing that rubbed me up the wrong way was a staff member called Caitlin, very rude, seems to try and boss other staff members around, would defo return, but when she’s not on shift.
