Tredegar Arms in Newport

First time visiting The Tredegar Arms & it's fair to say I'll be back. Great service from the bar staff & our server, Lewis. Really nice lad. The food was really decent pub grub, which you want in that type of atmosphere & the overall pricing was great. Worth a visit if you've never been there. Thanks again guys!

Good pub, traditional pub food. Good quiz night

Can’t express enough how much we love this pub – came here for Mother’s Day Sunday Lunch and it was absolutely amazing. Delicious food and a wonderful atmosphere, but the best part of all was the service. Dani, Liz and Leo in particular can be credited with characterising our visit as such a lovely experience, and the pub overall was so kind in gifting a free bag of chocolates and a card to all the Mums in the house. Will definitely be coming again! 😊

Mother’s Day lunch. The tables were dressed lovely with flowers, chocolates and a card for Mum I also had a glass of Prosecco. We then ordered the turkey lunch which was hot and served with extra pigs in blankets. The wait was not too long and the staff were all very friendly and helpful especially Liz at the bar, Leo who served us and Danny who took our booking.

Service and food was amazing well worth the money and made mother's Day very special for my wife. Asked could they get a bunch of flowers and it was no problem thank you very much for making mother's day special

Great pub. Good beer, friendly staff. Plenty of room to eat and a lovely beer garden. Today we were served by Amelie and Danni. Smiley faces and a great service .

Great welcoming pub, with lovely staff who are so friendly and helpful. We’ve only been coming here a short time - long story - but wish we’d come here years ago. Amelie and Danni are fab. And the Green King App is a bonus too. 🤓

Went for my birthday and had a lovely dinner with my wife. I had the fish and chips which is a treat for me. Staff were great and even let us change tables because of a very noisy guy that was sitting near us. Shout out to Le Lewis that looked after us. All together a good pub

Recently moved back to the UK from America. This place gave me the chills it made me feel so happy and nostalgic for being back in the UK! WALESSSS WE LOVE YOU! Thank you Victoria for making our welcome back visit proper!! Your friendliness and professionalism CANT go unrecognised!! I even had the boldness to ask for a local dairy, even though they serve ice cream here, she and the other female staff were happy to offer suggestions!! Wicked team. Fabulous vibes. Yummy food! Avoid food! The fish served was old, dry with unpleasant smell and appeared unsafe to eat!!! Complained strait away. Staff looked unhappy when I complained. New fish and chips served 15 minutes later. Garden peas reheated from the 1st round to accompany fish and chips....absolutely shocking!

Me and my friend always choose our lunch dates here it’s always friendly and lovely food with friendly staff! We’ve never had an issue with the food and they’re accommodating of my friends fussy requests hahah.

Food was cold and chewy. Much worse than other Green Kings. Service not great, staff seem like they don’t want to be there.! Nice ambience for drinks.

Nice traditional cosy pub, good beer selection, friendly service, clean and nicely decorated. Particularly enjoy the live music. Food was reasonable and fresh, good value for money. But in my instance the garlic bread wasn't toasted (basically warm bread), the fries were soft and limp (under cooked), the cheese cake dessert was warm in middle (clearly defrosted in microwave). Which was a shame because for just a couple of small changes it would of been spot on

I came for lunch with three friends. We all ordered the chicken katsu , on recommendation from one of the friends and we all enjoyed it. I ordered meal and drinks using the app and the drinks came very quickly. The food was tasty and hot and the plates were warm too. It was well cooked and very tasty. The staff, Vicky and Abbey, were very helpful and friendly. The pub was warm and welcoming.

We had a good meal here the staff were helpful and friendly and the food was good value for money. It only missed out on 5 star because there was only one real ale on. Normally I think there are 4.

Nice place for dinner out. Beer and large on tap. Friendly place all welcome.. Food looks good with plenty of space, covid safe. Plenty of parking outside with tables in and out.... Place can get busy so book ahead...... Keep up the good work

Stopped for a quick working lunch and everything is what you expect. Good food, quick service and welcoming. Will be coming back again.

Burger of the month are the best they also offer so many other options that are Delicious!!! even the drink You can’t fault a really nice pint would highly recommend as you can’t beat the atmosphere and friendliness of the staff

Fantastic lunch and service and excellent value for money !

We go here regularly and the food is always excellent value for money. Victoria and Abbie are always excellent hosts. I highly recommend the salt and pepper burger, and my parents often have the Katsu curry that they love

A lovely rustic pub with nice spacious interior. Good choice of beers and the food is decent. The outdoor bar is an excellent alternative area.

Absolutely lovely local pub, come here all the time with the family and it never disappoints. Food hits the spot time after time and drinks are always top notch. Personally never experienced any poor service or rudeness from the staff and the atmosphere is always lively and welcoming. Seeing these negative comments sadden me as any discontent with service's provided was most likely a one off sort of situation or the result of someone having a bad day. However, instead of leaving constructive criticism people have taken to degrading a pub that frankly doesn't deserve any negativity directed towards it.

Great lunch with fab service from our waitress Victoria. We were a big fan of the resident border collie Ellie.

Food came out quickly although it was quite busy. Fresh, piping hot and delicious. Staff could not do enough to make sure us and our 2 year old were kept happy. Always happy to visit the TA and can guarantee a good time had by all. Thank you!

Booked for an early family Christmas meal on Christmas Eve only for the reservation to be cancelled at 6pm the day prior with no warming apart from an automated email to say that it was cancelled. When I called to ask if there had been a mistake, I was told that it was because they were busy, no apology and with the timing I was given I had no chance in booking something else. Luckily but reluctantly I managed to get a different slot an hour before, as all the other pubs in the area were full, but when we turned up I was told I had to order straight away or we wouldn’t be able to eat, which wasn’t what we had planned or wanted to do. I appreciate that the pub was busy in the evening but why allow me to book in the first place if you don’t have the capacity to cater for restaurant reservations. Also to be honest there is also no excuse for the staff being rude. I appreciate it’s stressful after running a pub / restaurant myself in the past. But there are things you could do if you can’t handle the volume of customers. You could of either ticketed the evening , which you would of made more money from as people would of bought the tickets and you would actually serve more drinks and food or you could of opened the outside bar seen as quite a few people were sat outside anyway and that would of relieved the stress on the inside bars. The meal I had was fine for what we paid but a relaxing meal in the pub it definitely wasn’t.

Price is great for the food, lovely welcoming staff and a menu for the dogs which is perfect!

So disappointed, went for Christmas diner, starter was ok, diner was absolutely awful, roast potatoes were Rock hard, stuffing was bone dry, parsnips were raw in the middle, and I tiny bowl of gravy didn't even cover the diner, no mint sauce or cranberry offered,it was table service for drinks so sat for 20mins waiting for a drink rather than going to the empty bar to buy one, Christmas diner at home next year

Lovely pub! Cosy and inviting!!

We have been going to the TA on and off for 18 years but more off than on due to previous bad experiences under various different landlords. But since the latest landlord took over every visit has been a good experience. Great food. Not much of a wait. Good service and friendly staff. Good range of drinks. Its also dog friendly. Really hope these guys stay a long time. We will be visiting a lot more based on our recent experiences.

After a rocky first visit a few weeks ago we went back today and I must say we had a lovely meal had fish and chips and a kids meal all was very fresh and hot. The staff were very friendly Abbey and I think Vicky was the other staff member were both welcoming and helpful . Thank you very much even my grandson ate all his dinner which is rare . We will be back

First time I've see a note on toilets door of a GK pub apologising as waiting for refit. The toilet was lovely in comparison to other GK pubs waiting refurb and there was no note on their door like here!!! look forward to my nx visit thank you x

We’re locals and always enjoy going to the TA but thought we’d leave a review today as we received outstanding customer service last night. We were a table of 8 and were served and looked after by Danni who went above and beyond to make sure we were happy. Thank you. All of the staff at the TA are friendly and attentive and we always enjoy our food and we will be back soon.

Had fish and chips which was very tasty. The staff are lovely (Vicky and Abbey) The pub is decorated nice for Christmas and has a welcoming and warm atmosphere. Will be going again to try the Christmas menu.

Very very disappointed with my meal. As it arrive the gravy boat has clearly been used by some one else and it hasn’t been washed as it looked like they just refilled it. The seasonal veg was one piece of small broccoli and a load of Shrivel up peas with one or two small sliced carrot. The beef was so fatty and the turkey was bits of scraps. The roast potatoes was frozen and the Yorkshire pudding was so hard it hurt my gums as I took a bite and to top it all off it was cold. I wouldn’t recommend this place at all. So frustrating cos I was so looking forward to a Sunday lunch. I surly will not be returning to this place.

First time in this pub.The staff were very welcoming ,even advising us the best table to area to sit.There we're a lot of mothers and babies in the one area it seemed a nice atmosphere for them. Had the Beef and ale pie with mash and veg.Best pie I had for a long while .a proper pie with short crust pastry.delicious.My wife had the lasagne and that was very tasty too. Victoria we're served us was very friendly and welcoming. Will definitely eat here again. 👏

Although relatively local, this is a pub we don't visit that often. Tonight we were treated as if we come all the time!! Friendly and efficient service and 110% dog friendly. Daisy loved the chicken breast from the dog menu! Thanks guys!

Was served by Lewis was a lovely Charming young man.’ As usual, the food was lovely. Would highly recommend. The atmosphere is lovely and the fact that it dog friendly makes it fantastic .

A quick evening meal to save us cooking. The staff as always are very friendly and the food is served hot and delicious. We all love Thursdays as it’s steak night and Duggee enjoyed his sirloin steak cooked to perfection. Thanks to Lewis as ever is very friendly.

Excellent pub grub - old fashioned Welsh Pub. Meals were tasty, and staff very friendly. Great prices and selection of traditional pub food and healthy food.

We called in for a drink at about 4.30pm on a Sunday afternoon. The pub serves food, but we were just having a drink. The pub was quite busy for the time of day with a mix of people eating or just having a drink. Great atmosphere.

We took Dad out for a birthday lunch. And the food was great, will return. Loved the extra warm welcome from the dog. On our way out we spotted the dog bar, with toys, blankets and a menu for our friends. Then we seen the outdoor space, at the side of the carpark. Wow, I would recommed visiting this place, even if it's part of your dog walking, or a doggy afternoon out. Sorry I missed taking any pictures, so busy chatting and talking about all the nice stuff.

Friendly staff, good selection of beers, and poker on a Tuesday

My husband & I were passing through the area & I was hoping to find somewhere still serving a Sunday roast. I looked up a few options, rang one or two, who stopped serving at 4pm. It was now 5.45pm. We came across Tredegar Arms & they had availability, so we went in. We were shown a table behind the double open fireplace & chatted to the locals about the football game being shown. I ordered a roast turkey dinner, my husband had a lasagne & chips. Both were delicious & we finished the lot! The turkey was lovely & moist, generous amount, roast potatoes, cauliflower cheese, broccoli, Yorkshire pud, pig in blanket, stuffing & gravy, all tasty & I was also given redcurrant sauce which I like to accompany the meat.😋👌🏼 Good value for money & thoroughly fed, we will remember next time we're in the area & enjoy another meal there, hopefully when it's colder so the fireplace will be lit! 👍🏼😊

My husband and I had a roast dinner. 1 pint of larger and 1 lime and lemonade. The food was cold, and everything on the dinner, I would say, was frozen food. The gravy was powdered gravy. I am a cook by trade, and I know the difference between fresh and frozen food, fresh or powdered gravy. I thought the inside decor was dated, and it was very dark. I was on crutches and in a boot at the time of my visit, and I would also say the pub is not very geared up for disabled people. There are way too many steps and no ramps. As the flooring his quite dark, there was no hazard material in place to worn that the steps were there. The only thing in place was to white handles that you would have as a disabled aid in a toilet. These were in situ so near the tables, and people sat at them that they're a hazard in themselves. The handles seem to be an afterthought. We paid almost £40 for our food and drink. Hence to say we will not be visiting again.

Watched the rugby on saturday. From Lewis who took the booking to the bar staff and servers we were welcomed and had top rated service. Thank you. Very clean environment too.

Myself and 2 friends had lunch here today(Thursday 29th).We ordered from the senior menu. Excellent value and all 3 courses were very tasty. Staff were warm and welcoming. Service with a smile. Will definitely be returning. Special thanks to Abby.

A fabulous, dog friendly pub just off the M4 which is ideal to meet up with family. Had the 2 for £14.99 meals which were lovely. Beers were great. My tipple was Citra. Service was fast and friendly. Our server was Abbey who was friendly, helpful and efficient. A very enjoyable afternoon, thank you from me and my family.
