We are staying in the area and have just had the steak and Guinness pie here at The White Lion Hotel. It is the best steak pie we have found in the area....proper homemade pie, rammed full of tender meat with not a piece of fat or gristle in sight! We are pie eating experts and this has gone to the top of our list! Kudos to the chef 👨🍳 👏 Bloomin' scrummy! Thank you 😊

A serendipitous find as we were traveling through this area. Very warming place for lunch. Order at the bar and then served to us at the table. Delicious food with an atmosphere as a "local" watering hole! Nice!

Cheese sandwich very disappointing Cheese was tastless, not a welsh cheddar at all, more like solidified milk. Coleslaw served with meal served in a McDonald's ketchup pot sized paper holder, coleslaw was off, tasted musty and sour, on smelling it, it was like it had fermented and the cabbage and carrot in it were rotten. When my husband raised concerns, he received a pitiful "oh, sorry about that' no reassurance that his concerns had been addressed. Furthermore after leaving the one mouthful my husband did eat, we had travelled half way to Aberystwyth and I had to stop the car as he was sick. Hopefully no one else was serves the coleslaw after we left as I'd pity them if they did eat it. Somewhere we will not be eating again.

We visited on a Wednesday (market day) we popped in for coffee and a welsh cake firstly to shelter from the rain. The refurbishment was lovely and the staff were friendly. They serve food from 8am. We stayed for lunch too. We had a bottle of wine and a tuna and mozzarella baguette and cheese and onion sandwich. Both came with chips and salad and coleslaw. The meals were tasty and filling. The menu is good with plenty of choice for all. Highly recommended this pub

Lovely hotel food is brilliant, service was brilliant even with a busy night with England playing! Extremely clean all over with the smell of bleach hitting me as I went for breakfast in the morning and the rooms have recently been referbed and were also spotless. The only reason I didnt score it a 5 star was the doors banging all over the hotel that kept making our dog bark could do with the soft close on all the doors servicing but other than that a brilliant experience

Stayed here for 2 nights. Staff friendly. Evening meal was ok. Breakfast was quite greasy. So chose to have breakfast elsewhere the second day. The bedroom was a good size but was a disappointment. Cold water only from sink, warm from shower. Shower had sinking floor with rusty nail sticking up through the mouldy sealant. Mattresses were very old and almost collapsing in the middle. Bedding all stained a white and yellow colour. Cleanliness was 50/50. Room was not refreshed at any point during the stay, maybe this was the norm for this hotel. Unfortunately I wouldn’t choose to stay here again for the cost I expected much better.

Visited for a drink on a few occasions while in Machynlleth. Disappointing today though to see the two ladies behind the bar eating continually while serving customers for drinks at the bar. One brushed her hair behind the bar and had a lollipop stuck in her mouth while serving drinks. One wiped the food from her mouth with the back of her hand in front of a customer before serving them. Interesting choice of flags displayed above the bar too given that most of the clientele that frequent the pub appear to be English. In an area where we have always found locals to be friendly, we won’t be returning to The White Lion.

Me and my wife stopped in for a drink twice whilst on holiday, we sat out the front on our first visit and enjoyed looking at the town and watching the world go by whilst having a couple of drinks. the second time we went inside, the interior is sadly quite dirty and when sitting down and looking a little closer you can see the dirt on the walls and furniture. the staff were all very friendly and great for a little stop in for drinks when visiting, i cannot comment on the food as we only had drinks but reading the reviews and looking at the pics i would make your own mind up. if the kitchen has the same hygiene as the pub i would probably stick to crisps! Such a shame as i think this pub is only needing a deep clean and it would put the rest in the area to shame!!

Whilst visiting Machynlleth decided to call here for lunch. There were a few people outside and inside. I ordered a bowl of nachos to start but was told there was no sour cream or hummus. That’s ok I said and opted for cheese. My wife ordered the poppadum and pickles as a starter as she was having a chicken curry for mains. I ordered the mega burger for mains. We sat at a table window and when no one came to clear previous guests pots we moved them ourselves. Our starters arrived. My wife’s 2 poppadums with a mango chutney and another dip which I guess should have been yoghurt and mint. We think they had watered down the yoghurt with mint sauce as all we could taste was vinegar. My nachos came. It looked like 1/2 bag of nacho chips in a bowl with grated cheese on top then put under grill. Dry, boring and tasteless. Where was the salsa which is normally served with nachos? We left them and told the server. Never heard anything afterwards. Our mains arrived. My wife’s jar of bland curry sauce had been watered down and had no taste whatsoever. My burger came which was ok but was missing coleslaw as described on the menu. Both dishes came with the weirdest shaped chips. The were curved and obviously cheap. Full of oil and tasteless. Together with our pint and 1/2 of coke the bill was £38!!!!! Scandalous. I have spent a quarter of this in a supermarket cafe and the quality was far far better. The owner was obviously too embarrassed to enquire how our meal was. The management have no idea how to run any food business. If they did they could at least show the so called ‘chef’ how to serve a bowl of nachos but I don’t think they know themselves. No wonder this place is on its knees. You should be ashamed!

It's busy at times with kids and customers banned from elsewhere who listening to the worst DJ in the world. I had stayed at The White Lion on a previous occasion and found it to be ok. The room that I stayed in forms part of the fire escape route, but I knew and accepted this when I booked. However, what I found very frustrating was to arrive to book-in at the bar and the place was absolutely heaving with people. Two young ladies were trying to cope with serving the drinking customers so I had a considerable wait before I could book in. I had expected a quiet evening, but there was football on the TV in the bar, so there was no chance of that. The room was 'compact' and looked rather tired, although clean. There was no chair in the room (insufficient space) and only one bedside lamp between two bedside tables. Rather annoyingly, my room was not serviced at all on one day, which is not what I would expect given the price paid.Breakfast choice was good, but the quality of the cooked breakfast left something to be desired. I didn't find fatty bacon and what appeared to be poor quality, deep-fried sausages with fried bread oozing fat that appetising. Overall, a greasy, fatty cooked breakfast. One redeeming fact - the beer was ok.

Having stayed nearby with friends for a long weekend we were looking for that rare thing; somewhere to eat on a Sunday evening. Having tried several places to no avail, we eventually settled on the White Lion at the suggestion of people who'd eaten there earlier on in the evening. Its seemed to be an a typical basic pub with a familiar menu of dishes to suit a variety of people. The portions were good, the food arrived quickly and the prices were reasonable. Given that it was Sunday evening, the place was quiet. The staff were welcoming and polite and we enjoyed what we had. I had the steak and Guinness pie with gravy and chips, my friends had tagliattelli with meatballs, Mediterranean veg, cod and chips. We were pleased with what we received. Firstly I have to say we were made to feel very welcome by the young lady behind the bar & had we just had a drink I'm sure we would have left happy. However, the food was very poor. Both meals had lukewarm chips which could never have been freshly cooked. My wife's "salad" was a handful of roughly chopped iceburg lettuce with one thin slice of tomato. Her Cajun chicken was dry and salty. My burger was cheap and nasty with no taste and just more iceburg lettuce as a "garnish". The cheese I paid extra for turned out to be a slice of processed cheese. I've never written a negative review before, but this was the worst pub food we've had in a long time. Had a meal the other side of Machynlleth at the Penrhos Arms for pretty much the same price and that was excellent, so it can be done but this place clearly doesn't care. Stopped for lunch on our way to Borth, the staff were amazing and couldn't do enough for us. I only ordered a plain and simple fish and chips but that was fantastic, my friends had the chilli and we couldn't find a single fault. It's fair to say that if I'm ever in that part of the country again I will be stopping, even if I'm not hungry I will be eating there

Served by a lovely lady called Wendy, very welcoming ... directed us to a table and promptly ensured it was clean which was much appreciated. Helped the husband select a local brew and offered alternative tipples for myself. Lunches on panini's - very nice and comfortable environment and probably the busiest place on a very quite Thursday in town.

We had booked for lunch and a good job we did the pub was really busy. We ordered rwo roast lamb dinners and our order arrived quickly. Served by pleasant, efficent staff and it was hot. Great Welsh lamb with a Yorkshire pudding, new and roast potatoes. The four different veggies came in a seperate dish, delicious at £8.95 each this was good value. I would recommend and happily visit again.

We were mainly drawn in by the free wifi but after exploring the town and market this is a comfortable and convenient place to eat and enjoy a drink. Was also helpfully advised by a local to call the town "Mach" if you struggle with the full name of Machynlleth!

Sadly this lovely room was spoilt by OTT decorating and someone clearly went mad over the knick knacks. I had no room to put anything because of all the decor! Wifi was awful and ruined my plan of arriving early to avoid traffic and work through emails. Declutter and this room would recieve top marks from me! Now...unexpected visitors. I had a room with a fire exit for a window that had a outside staircase attached. I was woken up at around 1am to 4 young men trying to get into my room thinking it was the night entrance. Not very nice on a Tuesday night! Perhaps some signage would help deter the drunks from using this as an entrance? Positives? Great food, fabulous bar and amazing service!

Family of 5' called on our way home from a break in Wales.Service very good, waiting time for food excellent, presentation good and all enjoyed the food. Reasonably priced for a healthy portioned meal. The pub was pleasant and had a tradtional feel, nice change from the chain pub restaurant.I have steak and ale pie and it was packed with tender beef, fish were large and fluffy batter.

Stumbled on the New Inn for lunch. This little pub turned out to be a bit of a gem - great, home cooked food and friendly staff. A good local crowd too to add some atmosphere!

We stopped here for a few drinks and sat in the pub which was lovely. Plenty of seats and warm cosy rooms. Also had a lovely fuss of Bailey the local dog :) The landlord was very friendly and very kind to give me a birthday drink :) also he gave us some beer and cider recommendations. Reasonable prices and a spotlessly clean pub and toilets. Especially the day after New Year’s Day!! Lots of bar snacks and the landlord told us they have a pizza oven which sounds lovely so shall we come back to have one. Very good atmosphere!!!! We are staying at a local lodge and have came in here a few times. Recommend if you're in the area.

We stayed here for bed and breakfast while enjoying walking in the National Park. Rooms are spacious and clean, if nt a little dated. Friendly service from staff and a fabulous breakfast. A nice chilled atmosphere to the hotel. All reasonably priced, and we look forward to returning again.

We stayed here a few months back and found the place to be excellent again! Last time the breakfast service was poor due to a member of staff, this time the complete opposite ! The pub is amazing and has a nice atmosphere, the restaurant is lovely and the food excellent ! The staff are all really eager to please, the breakfast as I mentioned was excellent with great service ! Room 12 is a challenge for a 6’2 person but comfortable ! The bath should be replaced with a shower cubicle really but can’t fault the place overall and will always come back even if in room 12 :-)
